Upgrade to 0S X 10.4 killed my wireless networking on Titanium G4

Hello, I have a Titanium G4 and upgraded the OS from 10.2 to 10.4 and for some reason the wireless has not worked since (it worked perfectly just before). What gives? The OS shows that it sees the hardware and it works fine but I am unable to connect to any network.
Thank you

Well, I just reinstalled Tiger on my old Titanium. Wireless worked fine in 10.4, but after Software Update to 10.4.6 the PB refuses to see my Airport Express base station even though it has no problems with my neighbours' networks.
A friend's iBook cannot see the network either.
My AlBook, my wife's G4 PPC and another friend's iBook all see the network perfectly. Hmmm.

  • Itunes Kills my wireless network??

Any one have any idea why when I am using Itunes it disconnects me from my wireless network? When I have it connected via a cat5 cable it works fine. I have a server with all my tunes on it and my entire library is on there. This system has been working fine for years until I went to a wireless card in my own pc. Windows media player streams my tunes fine across the network. I am using a TP-LINK TL-WN651G adapter running at 54mbs. The network drops out after about 15-20secs of playing a song or adding one etc etc.
    Please help

I have also tried updating from version 7 to 8 Itunes. This did not fix the issue.

  • Apple TV is killing my wireless network

I think my Apple TV is shutting down my wireless network. I've owned the Apple TV since April but the problems just began 3 days ago. When the Apple TV is connected to the network, the entire wireless network and internet connection is lost for all clients until I reset the router by unplugging the power supply. This happens every 30 minutes or so. When I unplug the Apple TV, the problems stop and the network is fine.
I own the Linksys WRT54G version 6 router. Firmware v1.02.2 is installed. I have 2 computers and one AppleTV. Computer one is a Dell laptop that is almost never turned on, the other is a Mac G4 Desktop that is connected to the router with a Cat5 cable, not wireless, and it runs 24/7. I have the G4 set to use DHCP to autoconfigure and the router is set up to allow 3 connections. There is no MAC filtering. DHCP server is enabled. SSID is broadcast. I'm using WPA security. The DHCP lease time is one day.
Has anyone else experienced these problems with an Apple TV??? -thanks

If setting your DHCP server to 50 users did not help, then I would suggest you try setting your Apple TV to a fixed LAN IP address, and see if that helps.  The reason for this suggestion is that some Apple products have had problems using DHCP assigned addresses from Linksys routers.
Linksys has some special rules for assigning fixed LAN IP addresses:
With Linksys routers, a fixed (static) LAN IP addresses must be assigned in the device that is using the address. So you need to enter the fixed address in the Apple TV, not in the router.
When using a Linksys router, any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range (typically 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149), and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.
Therefore any fixed LAN IP address would normally need to be in the range of
    192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 or
    192.168.1.150 thru 192.168.1.254
assuming you are still using the default DHCP server range.
Also, in the computer, when you set up a static LAN IP address, you would need to set the "Subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0 and the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.1.1  and the "DNS Server" to 192.168.1.1
It is also important that no two devices on your network be set to the same static LAN IP address.
If the problem does not resolve with a fixed LAN IP address as described above, then in place of the "DNS server" address of 192.168.1.1  substitute the actual Internet DNS server addresses, as listed in the router on the "Status" tab, "Router" subtab.
    Hope this helps.
Since this is a relatively new problem, please let us know if this works or not.

  • MacBook killing wireless network

I have the MacBook 1.1 . Router is Linksys WRT54G. Up until approximately 2 weeks ago the network has worked without issue. For some reason the MacBook is killing the wireless network. I thought it was my ISP at first but then narrowed it down to the issue only happening when the MacBook is on the wireless network and then in the past couple of days noticed the network gets killed as soon as the Macbook connects. Im not referring to the just the MacBook loosing connection.... the entire wireless goes down and no wireless devices have access. It eventually comes back up but as long as the MacBook remains in the wireless network it will go back down again.
Snow Leopard... Latest driver... latest firmware. It seems that this started right after a recent update downloaded on the MacBook but I cannot recall what was updated. I need this fixed since my Macbook is my main computer. The others are for family members and Im forced to stay off so they dont get booted.

I have a similar problem with the Linksys WRT54G2 router. The problem seems to come and go but like you rz22g the only time the network is affected is when my MacBook is connected. All other devices on my network work fine PS3, MacMini etc.
Just a speculation but the frequency of this problem started when I upgraded the firmware of the router. I don't know why this would have such a negative reaction. I have also checked that all the router settings are identical to the way they were before the router firmware update.
Oddly enough while I type this my network has been the most stable I've seen it in a while.

  • Sony Bluray Player BDP-S570 kills my wireless on my WRT160N

    Hi all!
I have a Sony Bluray player BDP-S570 that is hard wired into the Linksys WRT160N router.  When I turn on the bluray player it is the only device in the house that has internet.  It kills the wireless and the internet to the other wired devices.  I've done most of everything that I know to do.  Any ideas, suggestions?  Is there a setting that I'm missing?

Did you try to upgrade/re-flash the firmware on your router?
If not then download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your wired computer.
Open the setup page of the router and upgrade the firmware on your router.
Change the MTU size on the router to 1365.

  • Upgraded 4s to iOS8 and can't connect to certain wireless networks anymore

I have an iPhone 4s that I updated to iOS 8.  Prior to update, I was using iOS 7 (whatever the latest iteration was), and was able to connect to various wireless networks. Following the update, I am no longer able to connect to the wireless network at my place of work.  It tries to connect, does so briefly, and give me an authentication request (screenshot attached). Blank username/passwords don't work, neither does the network name/password combo.  Choosing cancel will revert the connection back to 3G.
To try and fix the problem, I have "forgotten" the connection, re-started the phone, and neither has worked I have reset my network connections, and it worked immediately after the reset.  The phone was inactive for a while, and upon unlocking, it had reverted to 3G.  When I tried to re-connect, it gave the same errors already stated.
I no longer have a back-up from before the upgrade, so I can't go back to 7.  My wireless connection on my home network is fine.  Nothing has changed with the work wireless since it was working with my iOS 7. It uses a WPA-Personal security, and there are several repeaters for the signal throughout the building.
What is going on and how can I fix it?

  • MacBook can't see my home wireless network after upgrade to OSX 10.8.5

After upgrading to OSX 10.8.5, my MacBook does not detect any wireless nertworks. My iPad and iPhone work fine, my router has been rebooted, WiFi is turned on, and the ethernet connection is how I am writing this message to you via broadband. There are a half dozen wireless networks in range (according to my iPhone) but the MacBook cannot find the router I am sitting next to. Any ideas on how to correct this issue?

It appears an SMC reset was required:

  • Wireless network sharing in iTunes 6.0.4 (3) nonfunctional after upgrades

I have been using iTunes on my university's wireless network to connect to other users' libraries for almost a year, and it hasn't had a problem until the upgrade to version 6.0.3, when any attempt resulted in the error "The shared music library is not accessible for an unknown reason. (-3259). Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689". I can see everyone on the network in my side panel, just can't connect.
The first fix I tried was to downgrade to 6.0.2. However, after I installed the package that was supposed to be said version, it turned out to actually be 6.0.4.
Then I tried upgrading to the most recent version, along with any OS upgrades that had come out, which I did a few minutes ago. This also didn't solve the problem.
Does anyone know whether this could be simply software-related, or possibly a quirk of the way the newer OS and program are interacting with the wireless network? Obviously I have no control over its settings. Also, if it is just a software issue, does anyone know where I can find a functional version of 6.0.2?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

  • Leopard upgrade = no wireless networking

I upgraded my Mac Mini (1.83 GHz Core 2 Duo) to Leopard the other day. Took it to 10.5.2 right after the upgrade.
Everything worked flawlessly for about 2 days.
Then the AirPort networking started dropping it's connection. I have a Wireless Router setup right beside the Mini which it now just barely picks up (1-2 bars) and drops the connection every few hours.
And I can no longer browse / see any of the other wireless networks in my neighborhood.
My MacBook which I also upgraded to Leopard is working fine. Full signal strength and can see the 5-10 other networks in my vicinity.
The Mac Mini was also working perfectly fine before I upgraded to Leopard.
I tried deleting the com.apple.airport.preferences.plist as some posts suggest but that doesn't work. I also did a SAFE mode boot to no avail. There seems to be other Mini owners with similar problems but no solutions.
I don't want to revert to 10.4 ... any suggestions?

I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE ON AN OLDER POWERBOOK G4 (TITANIUM). I CALLED APPLE SUPPORT AND THEY TRIED SEVERAL CHANGES TO AIRPORT SETTINGS (SUCH AS CHANNEL CHANGES). NO SUCCESS. THEIR LAST WORDS TO ME WERE...WELL, LEOPARD REALLY WASN'T BUILT TO RUN ON OLDER MODEL LAPTOPS. THIS, OF COURSE, IS A CROCK OF S__T AS THE LAPTOP MEETS ALL TECHNICAL SPEC REQUIREMENTS FOR LEOPARD
WHAT'S UP APPLE? SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. IT'S ALL OVER YOUR DISCUSSION BOARDS BUT YOU REMAIN SILENT. IT'S DISGUSTINGLY ARROGANT.

  • Since upgrading to mountain lion my iphone no longer wirelessly connects to my itunes via wi-fi... is there a remedy for this?  thanks

since upgrading to mountain lion my iphone no longer wirelessly connects to my itunes via wi-fi... is there a remedy for this?  thanks

I am also having the same problem since upgrading to mountain lion. The symptom is strange.
If I connect my iPhone/iPad using cable first, uncheck and then check the wifi sync option, and then disconnect the cable, iTunes will still be able to see the devices through wifi. But if I restart my computer, it will fail again. And I am tired of repeating this exercise.
    Anyone has the same problem?

  • Wrt610n wireless network does not work after firmeware upgrade

    Hi
I just updated my Wrt610n hardware version 1 to the newest firmware, it did finish with sucess, I did factory reset reboot and reconfig. But the wireless network does not work , cant connect computers to it. Did downgrade the firmware to the same it was and restore my settings but still wireless does not work. But router works fine with lan.  Any suggestions? maybe the firmware tosted the router?
    Regards
    Stefan

    Update -
After last reset and reupgrade with the newest firmware for hardware version 1 I could config the router and connect 2 computers with wireless - but only for about 15 mín - then they lost connection and could not reconnect.
I did then get the newest update for hardeware version 2 - just to try and upgraded with that and got success, and now I have reset the router again and config it and those 2 computers are connected and have been for 1 hour now. So seems to be working - is it okay to have the firmware for hardware version 2 on my version 1 router?
Any thought what is going on - could it be that the other firmware had not loaded compleytle or?

  • IPhone not connecting to WEP 128 Wireless network after 1.0.2 upgrade

    Hello all,
I have the iphone since the last week. I was pretty happy with it until I upgraded the iphone to version 1.0.2.
From that very moment, the WEP Hex/ASCII Key option dissapeared when setting a connection to a wireless network. Mine was working with 1.0.0 and now it does not work.
I am Telecom engineer, and I pretty sure everything is correct. Mi 128 wep key is 13 characters long and (of course) 26 HEX long.
I have tried putting " before and after the ASCII key and also entering a $ sign before the HEX key.
I have also disabled the Auto caps, just in case.
After all this testing and a quick look at google, it seems that there are more people with the same problem.
Could anyone say to me if there is any other way? Or if apple is gonna release a new version with this issue fixed?
    I am quite dissapointed.
BTW: I have tried all the stuff of reseting the router and "forget setting", etc.
BTW2: To switch to WPA may be an option in my network by it is no way a solution as the majority of the public AP use WEP....

I am using a Linksys BEFW11S4 and I've tried to make the WEP key work on and off for the last 2 months while tapping into other people's wifi to get by without it.
Previously, when I chose someone else's secured network from the 'available networks' list, it would open a window and ask for password. But if I selected my own secured network it wouldn't and would just say "unable to join XYZ network".
Here is what I did tonight and I'm not sure which step did the trick, but it's worth a try:
1 - On the router, I went into the Password tab and entered a password. Previously I hadn't been using any.
2 - On the iPhone, I clicked on the little arrow next to my network's name. In the following screen entered the DNS address of my router (on Linksys the address is found on the Status tab).
I now have it connected to my network. I disconnected and reconnected again without having to enter the password, so either it's saving the password someplace or it's the DNS address that did the trick. The iPhone MAC Address shows up in the DHCP Active IP Table of the router and the router is still WEP protected.
I hope this wasn't too confusing. If you reply, please tell me how you feel about the $200 price drop today!
