Upgrade to 10.4.6 and Now I can't file share and print from network

Problem. When both computers were running OS 10.3.9 I could share files back and forth and print no problem.
Now that I have upgraded the Pismo to 10.4.6, I don't the other computer and can't print as it doesn't see the printer either.
Now when I put both computers on the same router, ie the WRT54G, I can share and print.
Computer 1 G4 w/upgrade to 1mhz, OS 10.3.9(all up to date) connected to a Linksys Router BEFSR41 which is connected to a cable modem. I have a HP 5740 Deskjet printer connected to the CPU.
Computer 2 G3 Pismo 500, OS 10.4.6 with Sonnet ARia Extreme 54G Wireless cardbus card, and a Linksys WRT54G Router. The WRT54G is connected to the BEFSR41 Router.
Network set up.
cable modem to BEFSR41 to ports in use, one to G4 and one to the WRT54G. the WRT54G connects to pismo via wireless card.

If your using the wrt54g as router and also connecting it to another router then you have 2 computers on different subnets. To share files and printers locally both computers should be on the same subnet.
Why use the BEFSR41 at all you could just use the wrt54g on its own. Otherwise you will have to setup the wrt54g as an access point only. To do that connect the cable from from the BEFSR41 to one of the 4 network ports on the wrt54g don't use its internet port.

You won't lose anything, but any settings you've adjusted, you'll have to reset.

Once again, KP is correct, but I just want to add that if you don't see the backup in the drop down menu on the summary page of iTunes when you choose the restore from backup option, then the backup is unfortunately gone. If you backup your computer, the iPad backup should probably be in that computer backup. I use Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and can access backups from months ago.
On a side note, I also archive backups from time to time. If you right click on a backup name in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>Devices (Windows) or iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Mac) you can save that backup or archive it. It will be date and time stamped. I have no idea why I do this to the degree that I do it, but I probably have 12-14 iPad backups archived in iTunes.

We got it to print via USB but when we switched to ethernet hook up via Time Capsule it won't communicate or install the printer.

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500A and I had no problems printing to it from my Mac or Macbook pro. The macbook is wifi and the Mac is cable, I have recently had the printer replaced with an exact model. Since doing that I can only print from the macbook pro, when I try and print from teh mac it doesnt see the pages. It could be a 10 page document and it will just show two blank pages. Right click the printer in System Prefences - Print & Scan and use Reset Printing System... and then reinstall the printer, should take less than 5 minutes. Here is a photo showing how to Reset Printing System....

I solved this one based on another post. Turned out I needed the snow leopard IP5000 driver. I had just copied over the leopard driver (I had saved my .dmg file) and installed that but it didn't work. So I downloaded the latest driver which turned out to be for snow leopard and I am guessing since it is 64bit that is why it worked and the leopard driver didn't. Anyway, I also had to hook the printer up via usb to the mac mini to get it to work locally before the O/S would see it over Bonjour via the airport extreme.

In the printer driver (accessed through the Page Setup button) set the Advanced tab to borderless. Then in the right hand panel under Layout set all the margins to zero.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
