Upgrade to 10.5.7 deleted all of my iCal events!

About a week ago, I upgraded to 10.5.7 via Software Update. The update ran well, I didn't get any error messages or timeouts. However, whenever I went to sync my iCal with my Blackberry the other day, I noticed that there were NO events in iCal whatsoever. This really bothers me since I use this program a lot for work and school appointments.
I know issues like this have arisen in the past, but before I followed previous posts, I wanted to check with you all on here. I have also installed the combo update since this issue has occurred.
Is there any solution to this mess, or should I wait until another update comes out to fix the bug? Please help!
By the way, I (somewhat) regularly backup my iCal, however right before the "incident" I entered several appointments into iCal. So restoring from a previous backup just isn't going to be enough.

I know this won't be the answer you were hoping for, but system updates do not modify files in the user's Home folder. The more likely explanation is a problem on your computer or a problem with a sync previously performed prior to when you updated, so that these two incidents are merely coincidental and not causal. It's highly unlikely this is a bug with the update.
I know issues like this have arisen in the past, but before I followed previous posts, I wanted to check with you all on here.
True, there are always issues but before you ask here you should check for those previous posts so you don't end up duplicating a topic already in progress.
In the future make it a practice to be sure you have everything backed up currently before updating. See the following suggestions for avoiding problems with system updates:

Please do things right before updating OS X in order to avoid problems.
A. Repair Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
B. Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means your backup drive (should be erased first.)
Source means your startup drive or volume.
C. Download the Standalone Combo Updater from Apple.
Be sure you quit all running applications and disconnect all peripherals (except original keyboard and mouse) before running the installer. When the installer is running do not use the computer in any way other than to respond to an installer dialog.
Install the update by double-clicking on the installer package icon. When the installation is completed Restart the computer. Your computer will boot twice - this is normal. Upon completion of the update use Disk Utility to repair permissions. Not all permissions will seem repaired. You will get spurious reports regarding permissions related to iTunes, Front Row. These can be ignored. They will appear every time you repair permissions.
Following these basic steps should prevent most if not all updating problems. Note that if you have unrepairable disk problems reported in Step A then DO NOT update your system until those problems are resolved.

Check your calendar on icloud.com from your computer. If the events are still there, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Calendars to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted, then after a few seconds turn Calendars back to On.
If the events are not in your calendar on icloud.com, you could try restoring to your last backup. This may recover them (although it isn't clear from Apple's documentation that calendar events are included in the backup).

It means the server needs to be up at this time. This value can be set according the customer#s requirement and here you can find more option regarding the message log settings as well. (Kindly check whether Backup buffer(days) is set to 0, if yes check by changing it to 1)
4)Schedule an immediate Transaction-Log Garbage Collect (B1if #> Control Center #> Maintenance #> Schedule TLog GC #> Submit)
5)Open Integration Framework->Control Center->Maintenance->tlog delete->Select the Execution status as "Completed"->submit. Wait for the process to complete.
6)Now restart the Integration service.
Messages are still in the B1-Event-Monitor.
I think our mistake was the LOG-Level ON during all the time.. the daily deletion I switched to 03:00 with 1 day Buffer

How to delete all ALERTS in iCal at once?

Over the years I have added repeating Events with Alerts to iCal on various devices (some of them passed on to my relatives). As a result I get plenty of Alert emails or sounds. I find it onerous to go through all repeating events to delete the alert. Hence my question: how to delete all Alerts at once?

Thanks so much for your help with this problem. I am trying to remove alerts for a couple of specific shared calendars (which I can edit) but am having some difficulty due to my inexperience with applescript! I am also not sure where else to go for help solving this problem.
My plan is to run your script a couple of times specifying one calendar at a time by name.

How to delete all contacts and calendar events?

I had previously told my iPod Touch to sync my contacts, calendars, and e-mail accounts with my computer (Mac) and sync via MobileMe. Now, I'm giving away my iPod Touch and I don't want to new owners to have access to my calendar, contacts, and mail. I've gotten rid of the mail by deleting all my accounts, and in iTunes I've stopped syncing of calendars, contacts, and mail, but there's still my contacts and calendar on my iPod. Is this because of MobileMe or just because it didn't take them off the iPod? How can I stop MobileMe syncing to my iPod Touch and get rid of my contacts and calendars off my iPod without having to just go one by one and delete them?

Deleting an account means you can no longer access the account with your iPod touch. Deleted icloud from my iphone and it deleted all my contacts, calendar events etc etc. i then stupidly i think synced my phone. I want to back up from computer to phone to see if I can restore contacts - can someone tell me step by step how to do this?

All sorted! dont suppose you know how to fix another problem I have??? for weeks now, since updating to ios5 I think, for some reason every time I have tried to log onto app store it says CANNOT CONNECT TO ITUNES STORE. It's nothing to do with my computer, and I've been to the Geniius bar but they couldnt help and nothing I seem to do lets me update my Apps and even worse, I cant even buy any more. Any suggestions?

Ical Help needed- can not delete a four year ical event

I accidentally sent an ical event that lasts for four years and now I he cant delete it and it is taking up more and more memory on his phone as it is repeating infinitly every day?? Have tried restore but it still syncs with icloud. is there an easy solution?

First you have to know which calendar your client saved the event to. Usually by default it saves to the native Calendar app. If that is the case, he should be able to log into iCloud and delete the event (decline the invitation) from there. If your client saved the event to an external calendar that he has synched to his iPhone (Yahoo, Google, etc.) he may be able to delete it or decline it from there, which should in turn remove it from the device.
The logic here is that only the creator of the event invitation can edit the event details, so that if they do that, all of the recipients of the invitation will get the updated information automatically. I agree it leaves a lot to be desired to stick things on people's calendars that they can't at the very least just simply delete if not edit. I will no longer accept invitations directly on my device in order to avoid this. I will add the event to my calendar manually from now on.

Completely by serendipity I just fixed this!
I was perplexed as to why all my events showed in iCal on my computer, but only some events would show in iCal on my iphone.
All day events were not showing, appointments weren't showing and neither was work, but social events were, no matter how many times i tried to sync my iphone with my MacBook Pro. Hmmm strange.
So I only just figured it out accidentally when on iCal on my iphone that if i click the 'calendars' tab in the top left hand corner, it takes me to a list of all my created calendars (and their colours) that I have in iCal.
If you tap on a certain calendar it will display only those events. Eg. I tapped on my calendar 'appointments >', and iCal only displayed all of my appointment times on my iphone and not the other events.
If I tap on 'work >', it displays all work events. Etc.
Is this making sense??
NOW:
If you go back to the 'calendars' tab on iCal on the iphone and tap on 'All >'...
then
Hooray!!! All your events will be displayed.

Lost ALL of my iCal Events -- Please help!!

I turned on my MacBook Pro today, opened iCal and ALL of my events were gone!
I checked both calendars, checked all dates in the past and in the future. Checked all the settings, etc. Switched views. Rebooted. Everything that I can think of.
The only thing that remained were the tasks, but all of the events have magically disappeared. Now I desperately need them! Ugh!
I thought long and hard about what I may have done to mess up iCal, and I couldn't think of a single thing. I do not synch my Mac with any PDA's or other devices. I did not recently install any applications that might touch iCal data. In short, I have no f-ing clue what happened to my iCal data! And I desperately need it. (And yes, my idiotic a$$ did not back it up.) Argh!
Does anyone have any clue how to recover my iCal data / troubleshoot this issue?

I am having the same problem. I can create personal events on ical on my macbook but I cannot edit them from my ipod touch. I've been using ical on my macbook and ipod touch for years so it's not that I simply do not know where the edit button is. It shows me the details but there is no edit button. I can onyl edit events i create on my ipod. Also, when I do create events on my ipod, the editing page shows me event name/location, start/end, repeat, alert, URL, notes, and that is it. I cannot choose which of my calendars I want to put it in, which is extremely frustrating because right now they are all going into my personally created "birthdays" calendar. I can edit these from my macbook but not being able to edit them on my ipod is a big problem.

Sorry, this can't be done at present; you have to do it individually, unless, as you say, you use the "erase all content and settings" feature.

How to clear all details in iCal before syncing with Entourage?

Deary me! I have been back and forth to iCal and Entourage trying to find which would be best. I have decided that Entourage will suffice - although not perfect by any means. In the meantime I have completely jammed up my iCal and daren't not try syncing Entourage yet otherwise I will never understand it and my iphone will be full of toot! Answer .... delete all calendars in iCal but leave the Entourage one there! Don't delete that as there will be big trouble!

How do I transfer all the data (contacts, iCal events, etc.) on my iPhone to my computer?

My hard drive crashed. I didn't have anything backed up. Therefore, since I have all of my iCal events, contacts, etc. on my iPhone, I have not yet synced my phone with my computer since I got the new hard drive. Its going to delete everyone in my contacts and everything on my iCal. Is there a way to upload all of that information onto my computer so I don't loose it all, and I can once again sync our phones up to the computer?

Thanks! I talked to Apple about this on the phone. They helped me figure out to check the sync box for contacts, iCal, and then "merge info." All of my music and videos will not merge over to the computer unless the data is formatted by Apple. But at least I can get my contacts and my iCal events transfered over! Thanks Apple for helping me with this issue.
