Upgrade to 10.6.3 unsuccessful.

I'm on 10.5.8 and bought the 10.6.3 disc to upgrade to snow leopard. Inserted the disc and followed instructions. It said it was installing. I walked away and when I returned the login screen was displaying. I logged in but noted that the version number is still on 10.5.8. I see the install data folder with today's date and a log file, etc. Now when I try to reinsert the disc, it ejects. Please assist.

Having a similar problem. I walked away for a few minutes and when I came back the disc had ejected and the computer was restarting. Still says 10.5.8. I inserted the disc again and tried to install, after about ten minutes it said there was an error reading the DVD, remove and clean it. Now, it just ejects the disc when I insert it.

Since the upgrade failed the first time your schema was left behind in inconsistent state. So you need to restore the backup of master and work and then retry the upgrade process.

  • Upgrading from iPhoto 5 to iPhoto 6

Well, my upgrade to iPhoto 6 was unsuccessful, and I lost all my photos stored with iPhoto 5 in the process. Based on all the troubles described in the forum, I'm beginning to suspect iPhoto is a disappointing program. Does anyone have a suggestion for a better, more satisfactory program?

    Day Lily
Perhaps if you explained how you upgraded, and why is was unsuccessful, and how you "lost" all your photos, we might be able to help you get back on the road.
What disk did you use to upgrade?
In what way was it unsuccessful? Do you still have v5? or did you manage to get v6 on your machine? Or do you have a working iPhoto at all?
Are your pics still on your HD - they should be in the Library folder in your pictures folder.
If the pics are still there, is there any sign of them in the iPhoto Window - blank squares where the pics should be, for instance, or it is a completely empty library?
This is User to User support forum. Only people who have issues come here. Judging the state of a two year old version of iPhoto from what you read here is akin to assessing the health of your community by visiting your local Emergency Room.

  • Dmp files and blue screen

I recently began experiencing blue screens on my laptop computer after I tried to upgrade to Windows 8.1, unsuccessfully at first. Truncating the issues occurring, I had to do a system restore, refresh, and another system restore, and eventually upgraded
to 8.1. After the first restore, I incurred blue screens when I tried to use a dial-up USB modem to log on to the Internet. It took over 3 months to identify the source. As it turned out, the culprit was my Internet Security Provider which had been upgraded
to the 2014 version from the 2013 version. 4 other drivers were being blamed as the culprit. Eventually, the Internet security provider took remote access on my computer and corrected their issue - which took over 2 hours, corrections to regedit, DOS, and
    reinstallation.
That being said, before I knew this, my Windows 7 desktop computer(dial up modem - internal) was upgraded from 2013 version to 2014 (Trend Micro). I think I got a minidump about that time. Windows 7 does not announce the blue screen event
the same way Windows 8 or 8.1 does. I again experienced another blue screen day before yesterday, and a minidump file was created and a temp file. Sometimes my desktop has frozen without creating a miniedump file, so I need to restart. I again suspect the
culprit might be the Internet Security provider.
I have a link but am not being allowed to submit it until my account can be verified for some reason.
I am hoping I did the upload correctly and that you might be able to identify the source of my Windows 7 blue screen.  This is the first time I have ever used Sky Drive (now One Drive).  I haven't yet been able to figure out how to read the
    files myself.
     Thank you.

If you are being told you cant post a link, or embed a picture (or any other restriction) you just need to post to this thread saying your account has not been validated

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
We prefer at least 2 DMP files to spot trends and confirm the cause.
Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here

  • Ios update wireless

I have a problem ios of 892W update the file is a tar, how can I upload it to the router

    Step 1
To transfer an IOS from PC to ROUTER, the following conditions must meet
    * IOS image the router to have is in working condition since corrupted IOS image won't do any good
    * IOS image the router to have meets the router DRAM and flash memory size. Keep in mind that maximize router DRAM and flash memory size before IOS image upgrade is always a good idea to make sure the router can fit the IOS image file and can run any IOS image version. Check out the following FAQ to find memory specification
»Cisco Forum FAQ »Cisco equipment memory chip specification
    * When the router is still running the older IOS image version, backup the older IOS image to TFTP or FTP server (the next steps explain this further). This backup should perform before any IOS image upgrade. In case of unsuccessful IOS image upgrade (due to too-small DRAM size, corrupted IOS image, etc.) it is always a good to know that you are able to reverse the change by putting back the older IOS image (the one that you backup earlier) to the router
    Step 2
In order to transfer an IOS image typically you need to run a TFTP program on your computer. Your computer will then become TFTP server during the IOS image transfer. A simple FREE one can be found here
»Cisco Forum FAQ »How to prepare TFTP server
Note that when the router is running newer IOS image, IOS image transfer using FTP server is also supported. Using TFTP server instead of using FTP server is more common however for image transfer. The rest of this FAQ shows the use of TFTP transfer however.
    Step 3
It is recommended that the PC (the TFTP server) is on the same subnet as your router. Easiest way is to assign a static IP to your machine [x.x.x.100 255.255.255.0]. If there is a switch between the PC (the TFTP server) and the router, then also make sure both PC and router are within the same VLAN or the same broadcast domain.
When your network is using hub instead of switch, then there might be some collision that severely degrade the TFTP traffic flow; hence screwing up the download or upload process. In this case, it is highly suggested to use either a switch or simply back-to-back connection using crossover cable between the router and the PC.
    Step 4
Next go to the privilege exec prompt and type
    r1#copy tftp flash
The command will ask you of four things.
    1. The IP address of your server. Enter whatever PC IP address is.
    2. The name of the IOS source file. Enter the exact name of the IOS file you are trying to install (including the sub-directory name and path if the file is not in the root or current directory). If you enter incorrect name or if the file is not in the right directory, the transfer will fail.
    3. It may ask you for the destination filename as well. This indicates where you like the new IOS file stored and whether you like to keep the same IOS filename. Typically you choose to keep the same IOS filename and store the IOS file in current router's flash directory. Should you decide to store the file in different directory, you need to specify the exact directory path and name. You also need to specify the new IOS filename should you decide to have different filename.
    4. It will also ask you if you wish you to erase your flash before copy.

  • ITunes synching my ipad bookmarks continuously.

I'm trying to synch my ipad on my Windows 7 64bit PC before I upgrade the IOS5 (what a pain that looks likely to be) but can't even get it to finish synching in iTunes (version 10.5.0.142) ) before doing that.
It seems to stick on synching the bookmarks and lingers there (not frozen) with the timer turning continuously.  I assume there is some conflict.   All I an assume is that because I've probably updated th bookmarks in my PC (Internet Explorer 9) and iPad separately since they last synched then the sysnching has gotten confused.   But, how do I resolve this problem as I need to move on?  Bookmarks are only step two of six in the synching process so it's very frustrating.
The iPAD's general setting says it's Version 4.3.5 (8L1) though i'm not sure oif thats the IOS version (if not then I don't know where to find it)

I've have eventually upgraded to iOS5 (after many unsuccessful attempts) through iTunes by (with great reluctance) switching off my Kasperspy Internet Security software just before the download completed and then turning it back on again afterwards, and then doing a scan.
It seems to work though I have still have the original problem of not synching Favorites / bookmarks with Internet Explorer.  I've had to disable this synch aspect so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Mavericks spoiled Calendar?

After upgrading to Mavericks, Calendar tries unsuccessfully to "move calendars to server" and gets stuck forever. It happens every time I try to use the application. Calendar became useless after the upgrade. Does anybody know how to fix it? Other Apps are working OK... for now at least.

This has been asked and answered probably 50 times or more in the past two weeks, but I'll save you from having to use the search function...

  • Lion kernel panics

This issue has been well documented since Lion was released, but I want to start a new thread on it anyway. It's more an open plea to Apple than it is for help.
With Lion 10.7.3 released last week, I thought I could finally upgrade my late 2008 MacBook to the latest OS. I had tried when Lion was released, I tried on the release of 10.7.1 and then I decided to hold off. Each upgrade has led to me rolling back to Snow Leopard. In my many years of using Mac, I NEVER experienced a kernel panic until I installed Lion.
This latest upgrade has been as equally unsuccessful. Within 2 minutes of restarting the OS for the first time, I received my first kernal panic. I find cutting and pasting kernel panics useless as they tell us nothing. I also feel sending them to Apple is now a waste of time as clearly, there is no response from them regarding the issues.
I'm tired of it. I have tried everything on the list of this post http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mchlp2890.html and it has made no difference. As it happens, my install has no "Hardware Test" (I've been restarting and holding D, or option + D for the past hour) and the idea that I need to create a boot disk to access it is a joke, so I've been unable to do that. On the otherhand, apart from a memory upgrade I did about 2 years ago which has worked fine on 10.6, I haven't made any hardware upgrades.
I have a feeling that the issue is related to the Nvidia graphics card based on what I've read online. I'm at a loss as to how to do anything with it.
I've invested a lot of money in Apple lately, with a 27 iMac and a 21.5 iMac in the house, on top of iPods and iPhones, so I feel like Apple's got what they want and the needs of the few really don't matter. It's sad when a company the size of Apple can treat you with such contempt. Steve Jobs didn't want people opening and messing with his products. Well Steve, you're not here anymore and your products (or more precisely, the support of your products) suck.
I don't expect answers from Apple, and the "have you tried... " responses that no doubt I will receive will not be ones I won't have tried (I've tried to resolve this issue solidly now, for the past 3 days).
My iMacs are all on Lion and all fine. I can only assume it's a hardware issue with the MacBook. I don't have the money to upgrade. Surely, Apple, you can't ignore (based on the 160 and 224 page forum posts I've found on this matter) this issue and you've GOT to give us, your customers who have this issue, SOMETHING? You can only ignore customers for so long.

Brand new Macbook air. 10.7.3 . Random Kernel panics daily. Firefox, Word docs. opening sytem preferences, clicking on a link, just about anything crashes the system. Apple told me to take it to a local tech. He found nothing wrong with hardware. . Also shuts down (power off) after lid is closed on battery power. Did smc reset with no results. Computer is almost unusable for any real work.  we have three other macs with 10.6 that have never crashed in three years.  Lion has issues! Need fix

  • Why Flashplayer won't recognize my password?

I have tried to upgrade, install and reinstall Flashplayer unsuccessfully on my Mac OX 10.7.5 version.  I had it previously, and then suddenly I was told to upgrade, and could never get any further.  It won't recognize my password no matter what I do.

    This has not worked.

  • Cannot install ANY version of iTunes

    Alright...
A while ago, I tried upgrading to iTunes 7.6 unsuccessfully. Every time I tried "iTunes installer" I got "Preparing to install..." and then Headline: iTunes + Quicktime with error message of "The folder path 'My Pictures' contains an invalid character. I press "OK" and I get "iTunes Installer Completed" with "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. To retry these operations as a later time, please run the installer again. Click Finish to exit the installer."
Each subsequent attempt produced same response. I then deleted all existence of iTunes off my computer and tried installing iTunes with my old software that came with my 2005 generation iPod. Same response. I tried getting a 7.5 version off Hippo download or whatever, same response.
I downloaded Windows Genuine Advantage validation plug-in with no solution.
I then downloaded Windows Installer Clean-Up and I don't understand what I am supposed to do with it. Does my answer lie with this Clean-up program, or elsewhere?
    Help!

Although the following document refers to a different program, it's worth a crack with that "The folder path 'My Pictures' contains an invalid character" message on an iTunes install, too:

How i said on the question. I tried to upgrade the ios on the phone and I was asked for my icloud user and password. I don’t remember these exactly and I tried several times with different options but unsuccessfully. I also forget my email used to configurate the phone. I have the phone box and the bill. I sent you an email with my problem and attachments with the box informations, the bill and the reset request. What to do? You said to me:
Your request comes from an unrecognized email domain. Apple accepts email requests only from email domains for Apple-authorized carriers.
Please re-submit your request using your official carrier domain.

  • OS 10.4 , upgrade unsuccessful

My recent attempt to upgrade my iMac G4 from OS 10.1 to OS 10.4. was unsuccessful. I could really use some help figuring out what to try next.
I encountered problems right away, on the CPU Drop In Disc 1. Disk First Aid kicked in to try to fix the problem. I kept seeing a message "incorrect threading records."
Ultimately, a message displayed that Disk First Aid couldn't repair the problem, and the upgrade failed. Not sure if this means there's a problem on my hard drive that prevented a successful install or what. I've never had any issues with this iMac in the five years I've owned it.
The troubleshooting section in the Tiger install guide seems to suggest that using "Erase and Install" is my only remaining option. I really don't want to resort to this if I don't have to.
The upgrade is a pack of five black CDs — the retail version, I believe. I haven't run any disk repair utilities on this computer in quite some time, and wonder if that may be worth a try.
Anyone have any suggestions on things to try that may correct the problem and allow me to do a simple upgrade, instead of an "Erase and Install"? Thanks!

    Thanks, Steve.
My iMac is a G4 with 384MB of RAM, so I should be okay to upgrade, right?
You're right that you can't do a simple upgrade. I just tried running the disk repair one more time from CPU Drop in Disk 1. Because I have OS 10.1, I have to choose "Archive" and something like "Previous settings." It appears this option just saves your old system files in a separate folder, then imports your settings to the new system once you upgrade.
I just tried to run the disk repair on my hard drive. It was unsuccessful in three attempts. The problem appears to be "Incorrect number of thread records."
Is there some other disk repair utility out there that may be able to fix this problem? Or something else that may work? Anyone have any ideas?
I've never had any issues with my hard drive before when upgrading or installing software. I'd really like to avoid having to erase my entire hard drive in order to upgrade, but the manual suggests that "Erase and Install" is my only remaining option.
    Help! This is frustrating.

Hello; I am using Numbers '09 version 2.1 (436). I tried unsuccessfully to upgrade at one point. Now can't open existing documents. Message "The index.xml file is missing". How can I correct this ?
    Thank you

I't not iWeb that got damaged but the domain file. The index.xml file is inside the domain.sites file that's located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Do you have a backup of that file you can revert to?  If so then do it.  Otherwise a long shot but try the following:
    close iWeb.
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.
