Upgrade to 10.6.8 removed all thumbnails

After ugrading my system to OS/X 10.6.8 all thumbnails in Aperture 3.1.2 have gone. After selecting all and clicking 'Generate Thumbnails' I hope all will be fine again. My machine is crunching now, and will be for the next few hours.
Koen

After several hours all thumbnails seem to have come back. Did some import, adjustments and export. All seems to be fine again.

  • I Beta tested 4.0 RC1 and now can not upgrade to 4.0. Error message is need to reboot to complete prior instalation. Have removed all previous versions of Firefox, rebooted and still same error message.

I Beta tested up to and including 4.0 RC1 without major problems. However I can not now upgrade to 4.0. Same error message time and again, "need to reboot to complete prior upgrade instalation". I rebooted several times, then tried first removing all previous versions of Firefox using both MS Add/Remove and then iolo System Mechanic, then again downloading 4.0. Even after rebooting same error message. I can not therefore install/use Firefox.

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Remove All Software to Upgrade - Great Idea!

Apparently you didn't like my last post... Is there a reason every time someone complains about the obvious AMDS issue the thread is immediately removed?
All I am asking is a simple question.... Why is it that every time you run an update on x67 Windows 7 you have to completely remove all Apple software to upgrade iTunes and fix the "iTunes requires a newer version of the Apple Mobile Device service"?
Its obviously not a "rare occurrence" like the KB article makes it out to be if I have had to do this for the last three iTunes updates. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

  • Mac OS 10.6 imports and generates all thumbnails at 30 pixels max

I just upgraded from OS 10.5 to 10.6.  All of my finder thumbnail icons now have a black border and are 30 pixels maximum width.  My default view setting is 128.  Some new photoshop ones and screen captures in Firefox have no borders and display at 128 pixels maximum.  Even if I move them or simply duplicate them, the moved or duplicated images now have black borders and are reduced to 30 pixels maximum, apparently by the finder.
I have way too many images and folders to manually change them, even if the OS 10.6 finder wasn't continuing to generate 30 pixel thumbnails.
How can I make OS 10.6 make thumbnails that you can tell apart from one another?  Also, can I batch convert all thumbnails to 128 pixels resolution?
I had a similar problem on my PowerPC G5, which also downconverted all existing thumbnails to a low resolution when I upgraded to Mac OS X,
    Thanks for any advice.

Snow Leopard did that to me, also.
    And, it continued into Lion.
Apparently there is an issue with custom icons created by some 3rd-party apps. In my case, the files in question were ones I'd brought over from OS 9, and had custom icons created by GraphicConverter and ColorItEasy.
A solution I found in Lion. After installing the newest version of GraphicConverter, right-clicking (or Control-clicking) brings up a contextual menu. From the "Services..." item in that menu, selecting "Create Icon and Preview" fixes the problem. The best news is that this can be done to many files at once - select a group in Finder, then right-click and make the menu selection.
Unfortunately I could not get that to work in Snow Leopard, even after installing the latest version of GraphicConverter.
However, what did work in Snow Leopard was to select a file or group of files, right-click them, then from the "Services..." submenu select "Create icon and Preview" followed by "Remove resourcefork". Got a good icon right away. This, too, works on a group of files.

  • Need to know how to remove ALL previous Outlook settings in Registry and file locations (cross posted)

Problem: I cannot get a newly installed Outlook 2013 to connect to the [online Office 365] server with old [non-domain] logon profile. That is my issue, and what I'd like to fix. (There's some services and settings on the old profile
that cannot be easily duplicated. Also, I'm just enough annoyed by this to ask for suggestions.)
Background: I upgraded an existing Office 2007 install of several years back to Office 2013 on an continuously used [non-domain] user profile (I needed connections to several Exchange accounts at various domains I remotely admin
and was tired of logging on through OWA, so it was time to upgrade). Up to Sunday last, I have never had issues with Outlook and Office 365 connections to that account; upgrading Office 2013 "killed" my outlook.office365.com connection to emails.
Testing: I created a new [non-domain] logon profile, and Outlook 2013 connects to my outlook.office365.com account just fine with the new logon profile. To repeat:
there were NO connectivity issues in connecting to my Office 365 account in the
new [test] logon profile with Outlook 2013, and using Outlook 2013 on the new [non-domain] profile.
The problem is profile specific, to an older existing profile (I'd like to use).
Just FYI: my [vanity] domain tests just fine with the Exchange 365 online tools. Office 365 works. OWA works. Outlook 2013 works (in the new logon profile). Mobile devices work.
There are no major problems with the domain name in MXToolbox, or Microsoft Remote Connectivity Tester. Both Windows and Office are fully patched on my workstation. There's no malware.
The problem is something in my older logon profile. Something somewhere locally to that logon and/or Outlook-specific profile is keeping it from logging into the [Office 365] mail server. I just get the typical "cannot connect to
    the server" error.
What's Needed: So what I need is a link to a webpage (or pages) that details ALL [existing] Outlook/Exchange settings that are profile specific ...so I can
manually remove them from the Registry, from the drive, etc.
...something on the order of "...remove all profiles under
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem" and "...delete all files in
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook" (neither of which fixed the issue, whatever the real issue may be ...but that's all I found so far that seemed pertinent). Anyways, "stuff"
    like that.
Alternatively, if someone knows what Registry keys, other settings, etc., I can export/import from the test logon profile to my "real" logon profile(s), that would be worth a shot, and greatly appreciated.
Or maybe just some google search suggestions that might find the above links (listing error message contents hasn't been useful: too many hits).
Me: I'm a sys admin with over 30 years experience. I'm not looking for suggestions on how to set up an Exchange account, or an Office 365 account, or to setup a new mail profile or logon profile (or to remove either of those), or to add
a new email account (manually or with auto-discover), or to remove an old account. None of that applies and/or has worked in this case.
Thanks in advance for your interest. I really need a knowledgeable wizard, since I'm looking for a solution to a complex issue. My own googling and troubleshooting has just turned up the usual noob' stuff. At this point, I'm at a loss. The well is dry.
    Update:
This question is cross-posted from the general "answers" forum (at the suggestion of a moderator).
    Update: I also came across
this page of "advanced" Outlook settings (and it hasn't helped so far, either).

I too, for over 30 days have been trying to find an answer as my situation is as similar as it gets.  I too have tried all and everything as you have.
How I wish there would have been an answer to your question.  It would have answered mine as well.
Seems typical to microsoft "help" unless it is the usual noob response and/or "more clarification" (I with no tech degree understood exactly what you refer to) the only response is well, just no response......

  • How do I remove all traces of  'album'? I do not want artwork, blank place holders, titles or artists sorted by album? I just want my music listed by title, artist or genre.

How do I remove all traces of  'album'? I do not want artwork, blank place holders, titles or artists sorted by album? I just want my music listed by title, artist or genre.

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • Second-hand MacBook - How to completely remove all traces of previous owner (inc. Apple ID) & start as clean as possible, while retaining factory software?

    Hey guys,
New to the forum and after a bit of advice.
Have just picked up my first MacBook from a friend and am wanting to start as clean/close to factory as possible, removing all traces of their Apple ID and Account info.
Have read a few posts and it seems that my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) came pre-installed with Snow Leopard (10.6.3/10.6.4).
In Linc Davis post here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5350317
he says that "If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the gray installation discs that came with it. If you don't have the discs, order replacements from Apple."
My friend is adamant that he received no software with the purchase from new. Everything came pre-loaded.
So I've downloaded OS X Mavericks and created a bootable USB installer. If I do a clean install using this method, will that remove all traces of the previous owner (Apple ID and account info), allowing me to start as clean as possible while still giving me access to the original pre-loaded software that came with the MacBook from new? Once installed, can I then just add my own Apple ID and perform any updates to this software as normal?
Since I don't think it shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, I will be unable to boot into Internet Recovery to try and restore if necessary, before upgrading to Mavericks.
Thanks for any help. Hopefully it's not as complicated as it sounds!

    Yes and Yes
OK, so I'd still have access to iPhoto etc., even though all purchases would still be linked with friends Apple ID?
I don't quite understand how this works..
If I do a clean install, and my new Apple ID has no history behind it, how does it know what software was paid for/pre-installed if that account is no longer tied to this computer?

  • How do i remove all traces of a print driver

I need to remove all traces of my print driver for my canon printer.
I loaded my canon iP pixma 4000R with a print driver i downloaded. It seems to be a japanese version as the paper standards are all a bit strange. No 4x6 option, instead, something called Hagaki that does not quite fit. Canon says to reinstall the driver from the US website.
When I try to, it always asks me if I want to "upgrade". If I say yes, then I end up with the same print options. I think I need to fully delete and install the driver from new.
I delete the printer from printer list. I've been going through library files, but I don't know what else to delete.
    Anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Tony

I would try Printer Setup Repair from Fixamac software. I believe version 5.0.3 is for Tiger. I am sure this program can do the job for you!

  • I am unable to burn CDs with songs recently purchased from itunes. No problem before. When I try to burn a playlist with new songs, I get the error message that "songs will not it on 1 audio CD". If I remove all songs except the new one, it will burn.

I am unable to burn CD's with the last 4 songs I've purchased from the iTunes store. I can burn CD's from playlist using previously purchased songs with no problem. With a normal length playlist including 1 of the newly purchased songs, I get the message "songs will not fit on one CD". I can remove all but the new song and 1 other and the CD will burn. I have upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and still have the problem.

I have that EXACT same problem! I have no idea what to do though, but it is very mucho frustrating. Let me know if you find out anything, and I will do the same.

  • How to remove all OEM programs and get to a base OS - W7

Is there a utility that will bring the machine back to just the base Windows 7 OS?  None of the OEM installed programs are needed, or wanted.
Using Add/Remove Programs always leaves unwanted trash in the file system and registry.  So is there a utility that cleanly removes all non-OS related files/registry entries?
    What has been tried:
1.)  Installed W7 Pro from an image downloaded from Digital River.  The product key on the machine was used for installation.  Activation via Internet and Automated Phone System failed.
2.)  Repeat of #1 using a Lenovo XP/Vista to W7 Upgrade disk.  Installation works.  Activation fails.
3.)  Repeat of #1 using a commercially purchased copy of Vista to W7 upgrade.  Installation works.  Activation fails.
4.)  WAIK has been attempted with no success thus far.
Any thoughts other than Add/Remove Programs?  Or a Volume Licensing Agreement?
Is there a utility?  Does Lenovo have any remedy for the complete removal pre-installed programs?
We have 125 of these machines.  Too many to manually go through Add/Remove and still wind up with a less than pristine OS installation.

    Try using Pc decrapifier

  • Remove All Adjustments

i only rarely used this feature, but after being contacted by a friend with an issue - who had upgraded to 2.1.4 - i found out that this no longer works for any group of images ... after being told of his problem, i went into aperture (2.1.3) and did a couple of tests, no issue with 'remove all adjustments' on a group ... i then upgraded my laptop to 2.1.4, reproduced his issue ...
no matter how many images are selected, it only removes all adjustments from the 'primary' image as if the primary only function is turned on ... it's not i checked ...
fyi - this behavior has been reproduced on three machines running 2.1.4 (all with 10.5.8) ... all three machines have been rolled back to 2.1.3 ... behavior normal ...
thoughts ?!?!? anyone else able to replicate ?!?!?
i have submitted feedback via the application ...

I had a similar issue (both 2.13 and 2.14) with applying keywords. If you have multiple images displayed and apply keywords using the keyword buttons in the control bar then they are applied to all selected images. If you type in keywords (in the inspector) then only applied to the main selected image. I assumed this was how it was meant to work and never thought of it as a bug. Took me a short time to notice and work out what was going on but once aware of it I just apply keywords through the control bar.
Sounds like a similar thing to your experience with removing adjustments (i.e. only the main image being affected).

  • Can a Mac with OS X 10.4 remove all traces of prior ownership?

I inadvertently posted this earlier to the OS X 10.5 Leopard board. Got a solution for 10.5, but alas this machine is an oldie and will only handle OS X 10.4. Read on ...
I have a many-years-old 600 MHz PowerPC G3 iMac (Snow White) that I'm planning to sell or donate. Is there documentation anywhere on how to wipe all traces of my ownership? I've done a clean reinstall of Mac OS X v. 10.4.1, upgraded to 10.4.11, so there's no remaining documents or settings, but the install required me to enter registration information, e-mail address, etc.
How can I hand off a fully configured Mac that can be customized by the new owner to his/her specifications and that leaves no personal data behind? i.e. is just as it comes from the factory.
    Thanks.

If you have wiped the drive, (zero-overwritten & reformatted) then go and
    install a new system, +quit the Installer prior to the personalization+ section;
then there is no need to 'deauthorize this computer' from iTunes store.
In fact, the only reference to the computer would be, as you mentioned,
in the other records to the owned computers listed as 'authorized' in the
iTunes store itself. Of course, you covered that in a way; but the actual
computer without any online records within it, which has been wiped,
would not be able to reconnect to the iTunes store & the former account.
If the computer had been totally restored from a fully erased hard disk
drive with a new installation of the prospective OS X version, and then
the computer minimally personalized to the point where further OS X
updates to the 10.4 system were done, so it has 10.4.11, all Java update,
    last QuickTime, last Security Update, recent browser(s), Flash/Shockwave;
and maybe a copy of OnyX by Titanium Software; etc.
Then, there's a way to have the computer re-run the Setup, so the first install-
user account wiped out; and a new first-run on restart Setup will commence
when the new owner gets the computer home and starts it up.
    Except, the computer would already have all available updates installed;
yet would be non-personalized and act like a new computer on first start.
This information, using Terminal or other super-user access, has been
noted and detailed elsewhere in the Apple Support Discussions. And this
is what I was referring to in an earlier post; it removes all traces of prior
ownership and does allow the new owner to not have to figure out how
to go through and update the recent the OS X on an old OS. For some
new users of Mac OS X, they are too lost to even get into this process.
Anyway, hopefully you've found satisfactory results in the paths available
to prepare the computer for a second owner, so their experience is as
good as it can be without any uncharacteristic issues for a new owner.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How can I remove all photos below a certain size?

Due to an importing error by a customer, I need to remove all photos below a certain size (e.g. all photos smaller than 300pixels wide). Any suggestions?
I have so far successfully used Spotlight to do it, but it left me with thousands of orphaned thumbnails which iPhoto doesn't appear to be able to remove. I have now restored the backup library from prior to the spotlight operation.
    Any suggestions appreciated! TIA.

Nevermind, I've cracked it. Used spotlight to remove all the images smaller than 300px wide, then used the app "Tidy Up!" to 'Report missing photos' and deleted them all (2000+). Tidy Up is very clever and executes the deletes through iPhoto so the library database remains accurate. The deletion took about 30 minutes, while it's happening iPhoto looks like it's being controlled by a deranged invisible user.

  • Once I fix the thumbnail pictures in iPhoto, how do I make them stay fixed.  Everytime I turn the computer back on iPhoto goes directly back to having 1 picture for all thumbnails.

I have been having problems with the thumbnail pictures in iPhoto.  It will typically show 1 picture for all thumbnails.  I have figured out how to repair the thumbnail pictures, but everytime the computer is shut down, the thumbnail pics revert back to 1 picture for all.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
how do you fix the thumbnailsd?
what other fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

If you cannot save any new bookmarks, I wonder whether your places.sqlite file (stores history and bookmarks) in your profile has become corrupted. You might need to rename that file and allow Firefox to create a new one before you can save new bookmarks again. I wouldn't delete the file just yet, as it might contain some useful stuff.
