Upgrade to 10g

Current Version Oracle 9i (Solaris)
I want to migration to Oracle 10g(OS: Enterprise Linux)
My approach is to migrate Oracle 9i to 10g in Solaris and then Rman cross platofrm conversion and then to (Enterprise Linux)
Is this approach is correct ?

You can go for database conversion indeed - maybe one of the fastest and easiest way, but only if the endianess are same on both OS.

    Hi Deepak/Folks,
Another question that I have is that while doing the Oracle Upgrade on an EP server, the patches were not installed properly and I had to shut down the Patches installation after it did not do anything for a while.
Now when I try to install the patches it fails telling me that the Installed patches cannot be verified, I had written to SAP and they told me to follow the

    and re-create the oracle  inventory.
This has also not helped in anyway.
Is there a solution to this problem.

  • After Upgrade OBI 10g to 11g:Odbc driver returned an error - SQLExecDirectW

    Hi all,
for an OBI upgrade from 10g to 11g I used a RPD and Webcatalog based on a remote machine other than my local machine. Firstable I am making the tests on a Linux Virtual machine, which uses the Sample Lite version from Oracle.
    I made the following steps:
    1. I upgraded the RPD and Webcatalog. It worked without any errors.
    2. I set the static variable BI_EE_HOME via Administration Tool to the path in the Linux machine.
--> Here I am not sure if the set path is correct. It begins with: \bi\ ...\instances\...\coreapplication_obis1 (... : I can't mention here the whole path name).
--> When the OBI Server is installed in Windows, the mentioned static variable points to something like 'C:\<install folder>\...\coreapplication_obis1'
--> Question: is the begin of my set path correct?. I set that pointing to the Linux OBI Server, because the OBI Server is installed on Linux.
    Problem:
After login as the user in RPD: Administrator/<Password for my upgraded RPD> I can see the links in the Catalog and the Dashboards links. But I can not see any values, any Reports when going through the links.
For example when trying to see a Dashboard with date 12.02.2011it happens:
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    Status: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] general error.
[nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS.
    [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed:
[nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 12154, message: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    at OCI call OCIServerAttach.
[nQSError: 17014] Could not connect to Oracle database. (HY000)
    SQL Issued: SELECT "Dimension_-_My Dimension"."MyDimension" saw_0 FROM "Accounting (ACC)" WHERE "Dimension_-_My Dimension"."MyDimension" LIKE 'J%' ORDER BY saw_0
I think its not retrieving the data from the remote database, because I don't have the data of the remote database in my local. I think the OBI Server still is pointing to the local virtual machine Oracle database.
Can anybody tell me what happens here and how can I solve this problem?.
    I would appreciate any help....

    Hi gerardnico,
I've tried many things and did as in your articles, but I don't have success with that.
These are the things I did:
    1. I searched for the file tnsnames.ora in my Linux virtual machine. I could find it in many paths:
    /.../Oracle_BI1/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/hs/admin/tnsnames.ora.sample
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/temp/tnsnames.ora
    /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin
in the last path I found the listener.ora as well.
    2. I took the tnsnames.ora from the last path, because the ORACLE_HOME points to /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server
    3. I edited the tnsnames.ora this way:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File:
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host_of_the_remote_machine)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = database_name_of_the_remote_machine)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = database_SID_of_the_remote_machine)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    4. I made a backup of the tnsnames.ora in path /.../Oracle_BI1/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
and copied the tnsnames.ora from /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin to the Oracle_BI1 path
    5. I set the TNS_ADMIN to /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin
    6. I restarted the BI Server
No success in what I did. The error is still there.
    7. I've tried also: sqlplus database_user_remote_machine/database_password_remote_machine@database_SID_remote_machine
    I didn't get the connection:
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Thu Jun 16 04:36:10 2011

What am I doing wrong here?. I am still thinking that I need the import of the database.

  • Requirement to upgrade OBIEE 10g on Windows to OBIEE 11g on Linux

    Dear All,
I have a requirement to upgrade OBIEE 10g from current windows 2003 environment to OBIEE 11g Linux environment.
I went through forums and many threads on upgrade, everywhere they talk about Upgrade Assistant (UA). And oracle documentation says ,
+"Do not change from one platform or architecture to a different platform or architecture as part of the upgrade process.+
+For example, if the existing 10g system is running on a Windows 32-bit platform, do not install Oracle BI 11g on a Linux 64-bit platform and then run the Linux 64-bit Upgrade Assistant to upgrade the existing 10g system."+
But there would certainly be scenarios with other users the way I have. Then what is the way out to do this upgrade?
Can anyone give some advice on this. It is little urgent.
    Thanking in advance.
    Regards,
    Deepika.

Thats are huge change in platform. win32 to linux 64.
Yet what we upgrade is only
    catalog and rpd.
this might involve some manual change if UA cannot complete successfully.
Its better to do a prototype before the actual upgrade as recommended by Oracle. This will show what can the possible issues and road blocks.

    Hi,
Is there anybody there, who upgrades Oracle 10g 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.4.
May I know where did you download and how you did it as I check the SAP Note 1137346, there is before and after upgrade but nothing about the upgrade process and I can't file the upgrade file as well.
    Thanks for the help
P.S.: Our OS is Windows 2003 and we are running NW2004s , EP7.

    Hello,
not sure exactly what do you want.
Is there anybody there, who upgrades Oracle 10g 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.4.
    Yes, me, for example
May I know where did you download and how you did it.
    SAP Service Marketplace
    http://service.sap.com/oracle-download
    ->  Oracle 10.2.0.4 -> Database RDBMS -> Your OS
Note that still is not available for Itanium (MS Windows Itanium (64-bit))
The instructions to install any patch set can be found on the patch ser (README file)
you can also take a look at the note 839187 Oracle Database 10g: Patch set installation

  • Upgrade to 10g on Solaris 9

    Hello!
    System: solaris 9 sparc 64-bit
I'm about to install a new 10g home and create a dummy database on an existing database server running 9i (prod), and then upgrade the 10g db with EXP/IMP from 9i database, leaving the 9i database intact.
Reviewing the installation document on tahti.oracle.com for Solaris, i noticed that I'm missing an OS package, SUNWlibms and also PL/SQL native compilation (SUN ONE Studio 8 c and c++ 5.5 or gcc 3.4.2).
Would it be safe to just install these packages.. or could it affect the already running Oracle 9i installation?
Any comment, experience regarding this is most valued!
    Thanks

The package SUNWlibms should not affect current installs.
You will only need Sun ONE Studio 8 (C and C++ 5.5) or gcc 3.4.2 if you plan to implement PL/SQL Native Compilation - if not, you can skip this requirement

  • Steps to upgrade to 10g R2

Our unit will soon be deploying IE7 to our machines. I'm looking for simple instructions to upgrade to 10g R2. We are currently on 10g R1 (9.0.4). I assume it will be a simple de-install of DevSuite R1 and re-install of DevSuite R2 (10.1.2.0.2). But is there also a patch I need to install? I also found a whitepaper to help in understanding how to use JRE w/ running forms in IE7 as I understand the JRE is recommended over JInitiator. Is that correct?
    So to recap the steps:
    1. de-intall DevSuite R1 (9.0.4)
    2. Install DevSuite R2 (10.1.2.0.2)
    3. Install a patch? (not sure on this part)
    4. Install JRE - is this just on the client side or is there something necessary on the server?
    Am I missing anything?
    Thanks, phil

I have forms running on my test machine after installing the Forms and Reports Services standalone product. I also installed the DevSuite on a separate home. I am having trouble with the OPatch for installing patch 3 but I have been able to test the forms successfully. Though I need to set up the db connection. I get the ORA-12154 TNS error. I have the info in the tnsnames file but I assume I need to configure w/ the Net Configuration Assistant?
I also have this running w/ JRE instead of the JInitiator which seems to be working very well.
So if anyone can point me in the right direction for:
    1. Setting up db connection to my forms
    2. OPatch use for installing patches
    3. info on webutil...do I need the webutil object and library as I did in the 10g 9.0.4 version?
    thank you.

I do not feel comfortable setting this parameter session or system wide to provide a solutionIf you're sure that the "lower" environment reproduces the same issue, and not due to some other differences (different statistics, parameters etc.), then you could share the two different execution plans generated via DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY having the cost based transformations turned on and off. Make sure you use the \ tags before and after the plan output to format it in fixed font. You can use the "Quote" button in the message editor to see how to use the tag.
Furthermore a optimizer trace (10053) might reveal why the cost based transformations lead to such an result.

  • Upgrading to 10G

    Hi guys,
We are going to start our oracle upgrade from 9.2.0.2 to 10G release 2 on AIX and R/3 4.5b.
Has anyone recently upgraded to 10G here and any tips on what may come up? Any tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Cyrus

    G'Day Cyrus,
4.6C on AIX 5.2,  in last 2 weeks we upgraded from Oracle 817 -> 9.2 -> 10.2 on a trial system,  so we can upgrade to ECC6.0
The only issues we had were with the ability of OUI and especially DBUA (new in the Ora 10 upgrade) to work through Reflection X for WIndows.  If you have some other X-Windows product you should be fine.
We got it to run with fully patched 9.2.0.7 Oracle client.
We HAVE got stuck though,  due to an issue with SAPup with this delivery mySAP2005 SR1 upgrade kit,  Unix on Oracle.     The prepare falls over in phase PRPAR (I think that's the name of the phase).  It is where it is trying to run tp.  This occurs either on 9.2 or 10.2.  Note that Prepare can be run on 9.2 according to the notes.
Error symptom: if you cd into /usr/sap/put/exe and run R3trans -d it inexplicably can't see the dboraslib.o,  with a 'DLENOACCESS' error but no explanation in trans.log
Have tried various combinations,  inc. copying in the 46D_EXT kernel versions into /usr/sap/put/exe which work fine.   Then patched the programs from SAP kernel 64-bit patches,   same same.
Did you try the Prepare yet?   If not you might want to try it NOW to see if you get error.   Please post reply with yr answer.   Until this is resolved we have our upgrade ON HOLD,  so it might affect yr planning....
    Thanks Cyrus,
    Patrick Melling.

  • Oracle upgradation to 10g

    Hello all,
Whether i need to check the BI system before going for Oracle upgrade to 10g. As we have taken sys copy from BIP to BI test server. Now we are planning to upgrade oracle 9i to 10 g. Please suggest.
    amit

As part of a project implementation you shoudl have test scripts developed by your implementation team
They are not generic and shoudl be in your documentation handed over.
I cant give you a link because they are sitting on my server and apply to my project
If you havent got any test scripts then you will have to generate them from scratch - and these can be used for all other upgrades - and yes they cost a fortune in man hours to write
    Examples are:
    Listcube
    Open Hub
    SPRO tables
    Multiprovider checks
    Aggregate update
    Process Chains
    Transport Checks
    Foreign Character check
    Role Access
    Creating queries
    Creating variants
    Superuser checks
    Variable checks
    RSRV checks
    Run under Citrix
    SQL checks
    etc

  • Select after upgrade 9i - 10g runs slowly thousand times - urgent

I have select which runs around one second on Oracle 9. After upgrade to 10g this select runs more than two hours. I compute statistics on all tables, all columns and all indexes. This select consist from two parts - every part run on oracle 10g around 0.5 second but together more than 2 hours. When I rewrite it using WITH clausule, it runs 2 second. But I don't want to rewrite selects .. I want to find why it runs slow on 10g.
Below are original and rewrited select with their execution plans.
    Any idea or recomendation?

    Vlada,
could you please post an properly formatted explain plan output using DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY including the "Predicate Information" section below the plan to provide more details regarding your statement. Please use the \[code\] and \[code\] tags to enhance readability of the output provided:
    In SQL*Plus:
    SET LINESIZE 130
    EXPLAIN PLAN FOR <your statement>;
SELECT * FROM TABLE(DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY);In order to get a better understanding where your statement spends the time you might want to turn on SQL trace as described here:
[When your query takes too long|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=501834]
and post the "tkprof" output here, too.
Could you also provide the information which version of 10g you're currently using? (4-digit version number). Note that 10g introduced a couple of significant changes including CPU costing enabled by default and a different default setting of DBMS_STATS regarding column histograms.
So you might want to re-gather the statistics using the method_opt parameter of the DBMS_STATS.GATHER__STATS procedures explicitly defined as "FOR ALL COLUMNS SIZE 1" to mimic the 9i behaviour.
You also might want to try the "OPTIMIZER_FEATURES_ENABLE" session setting set to "9.2.0" in order to find out if any of the new optimizer features could be causing the issue if re-gathering the statistics as suggested above doesn't make a difference.
Do you know if the tables/indexes in your 9i database also had reasonable statistics?
    Regards,
    Randolf
