Upgrade to 18.0 has disabled Java even though plugin checker says Java 7 Update 10 is up to date, yet webpages using java display "missing plug in" error

Attempting to install the "missing plug-in" using the Firefox prompts results in Java 7 Update 10 being installed, re-installing it is successful and does not resolve the issue, Firefox 18 refuses to allow/display java content even with the proper updated version of Java installed.
This problem ONLY occurred immediately following this mornings update to Firefox 18.0.

Context:
Yesterday: Java working fine.
This morning: Update to Firefox 18.0
Java will not work, not at all even with Java 7 Update 10 installed, not even the "verify java version" applet at http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp will display.
When attempting to view/display any java content the "missing plug-in" error bar at the top of the page displays and attempting to install the required plug-in via that method does not resolve the issue even though the correct version of Java is installed and the plug-in checker verified it was "up-to-date".

I am trying to use "screenr" and it keeps telling me it cannot detect Java even though I have downloaded and updated Java?  What is going on or what might I do to correct this?

Firefox needs 32-bit plugins, so you'll need to install 32-bit Java for Firefox.
No, you can't change Firefox from 32-bt to 64-bit. There is a Nightly 64-bit version (alpha) of Firefox, but it is used only to test for regressions until development is resumed.

This is a common issue and a solution could have been quickly found by doing a search.
Disable any Anti-Virus and Firewall software on the computer, then run the update.

Thank you, James, but I do have a WiFi connection on the iPad mini. The Numbers files update on my iPad third generation and iPhone just fine when connected to the same network.
Do you have any other suggestions?
    Thank you!

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • Has anybody experienced that the water indicator has been damaged even though the phone has been in contact with any fluids?

My 6months old Iphone 4S started to turn itself of or freeze before shutting down about a month ago.
I've been told it's the top water indicator that is broken and that the phone has been in touch with fluids-which it really hasn't!!
Has anybody else experienced that the water indicator has been damaged even though the phone has not been in contact with fluids?

    Hi,
I'm going to contact you via private message to get more contact info and case number.

    Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

  • Plugin check says that Java 1.6.0_29 is vulnerable and should bl updated on Mac when 1.6.0_29 is current and is already on the machine. Glitch?

Mozilla Plugin Check gives a vulnerable warning for Java, even though its up to date on the page it sends you to.

We have just upgraded the JRE to 1.6.0_29 which has added additional security and caused our part of our application fail.
    Try going to 1.6.0.27
    See release note for .29
    RMI Registry Issue
A bug in the rmiregistry command included in this release may cause unintended exceptions to be thrown when an RMI server attempts to bind an exported object which includes codebase annotations using the "file:" URL scheme. The RMI servers most likely to be effected are those which are invoked only by RMI clients executing on the same host as the server.
RMI annotates codebase information as part of the serialized state of a remote object reference to assist RMI clients in loading the required classes and interfaces associated with the object at runtime. Exported objects which are looked up in the RMI registry and invoked by RMI clients running on hosts other than the server are usually annotated with codebase URL schemes, such as "http:" or "ftp:" and these should continue to work correctly.
As a workaround, RMI servers can set the java.rmi.server.codebase property to use codebase URLs other than the "file:" scheme for the objects they export.

When I try to install Lion it tell's me "You can't use this version of the application install mac os x Lion with this version of Mac os X" even though I have the latest update 10.5.8 of Mac os X?
The install icon has this sign on it

You can't install Lion over Leopard. To install Lion, a requirement is Snow Leopard. So you can either upgrade to Snow Leopard first or you can make a bootable Lion install disc and use that to wipe your hard drive and install a fresh copy of Lion.
So to make a disk would require you to purchase Snow Leopard and upgrade to 10.6.8 so you can use the App Store, unless you have access to another computer to download it from with your Apple ID. Remember it is about a 3.4GB download.
    Good Luck

My macbook 13 pro is not connecting to the internet even though the airport says it's connected. Can someone help me? My iphone and other macbook connect and work no problem. What steps can I take?

    Ok....
Now go to your router's settings.  Not sure who makes your router...
Look at wireless part of it and see how many computers are actually hooked up to it.
Delete your computer from it (in your router).
    Restart your router.
After your router has restarted, try to connect to it with your MB and see if you can browse the net.

  • I have very slow internet even though my provider says the speed is fast

I am experiencing very slow internet even though my provider says that my speed is fast.  The uploading of a page takes long to complete

If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
    and here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network:please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/best_practices/#your_network and follow the advice given.
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The later versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.
For this and other reasons Apple switched their websites to HTML5 in January 2011:

  • Firefox disables my QuicktimePlayer plugin, although the plugin-check says it is up to date

I am running Firefox 21 (I have not been prompted to update to 22 yet) on MacOS 10.6.8 and in the last two days when I try to view a page that requires the QuicktimePlayer plugin, I see an error message saying that the plugin is outdated and it has been disabled for safety reasons. I can re-activate it from the red icon that appears on the left of the address bar, but what I have noticed is that when I do the plugin check, QuicktimePlayer appears to be up to date! The version of the plugin is 7.6.6 and there is no newer version for my system as far as I know. Is there any way to fix this or is it a known bug?

QuickTime Plugin 7.7.0 and lower (click-to-play), Mac OS X has been blocked for your protection.
    check: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p408
The plugin is being checked at the moment (see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=837377) so lets keep fingers crossed to see the problem resolved.

even though I am connected to my home wi-fi, it is also using 3G which is using up all my data!  What do I do??

Like Ann said, turn off Mobile data.  Go to Settings, Mobile Networks, and disable mobile data.  You'll get a warning about connecting to wifi to do email, and browse, etc, but that's the whole point - you want to use the wifi, not your mobile data.
