Upgrade to 2008 from 2003 stopped by powershell error

I am trying to do an upgrade to 2008 32bit from 2003 R2.  When it run the check it says it can not continue because powershell is installed.  I did a search on this and found a KB article that talked about going into add/remove programs and select
show updates.  Then find a specific updates and uninstall it or go to the windows directory and into the number and run the uninstaller.  The problem is that one doesn't show up in the add/remove programs or in windows director either.  So I
am not sure what to do now so that I can get the upgrade to run.
Thanks
Martin

Hi,
Please reinstall Windows PowerShell 1.0 to repair it and try to uninstall it again.
If it does not work, I would like to suggest you use Process Monitor to monitor the installation process of Windows PowerShell 1.0. In
this way, you will know what files, folders and registries are installed. After that, please manually remove them.

    Hi guys.
We have a server where we have sucessfully installed 2012 r2 std. We wanted to put TMG on it and we found information it supported only on 2008 r2 OS. We have tried reinstalling the OS on this server but we are having some issue in setup phase.
2012 r2 installation went thru with no problems, 2008 r2 installation stops at 20% with error: required driver coult not be installed. There's a SUPERMICRO motherboard on this server with Intel RAID controller. The IT guys which have tried to installed 2008
r2 downloaded the latest drivers for this motherboard on the supermicro site. They needed to give the inf files durring the installation otherwise disk was not recognized.
We have also unplugged any USB devices, and downloaded a fresh iso of 2008 r2 std, but still it gets stucked at 20% with driver error. Any hints what should we do to push the installation forward?

  • Upgrade Early 2008 from 10.5.8, to ? PLUS a broken RAM slot

    I have a Early 2008 white MacBook, 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo.
As I understand it, if I want to upgrade to 10.7, I need to first purchase a 10.6 DVD, correct?
Is a multi license DVD available?  I have 2 machines running 10.5.8, the MacBook and an iMac.
Also, the MacBook has been dropped, and now only 1 of the 2 RAM slots works.  (I think the Logic Board is damaged)
It looks like it could normally support 6GB (4+2), but since I can only use 1 slot, can I use a single 4GB, or just a 2?  (It currently only has 1GB)
I realize I should probably just buy a newer machine, but honestly this one does all I need.  The only reason I am even updating the OS is because Firefox will no longer work, and some other similar things that are software related.
    Thanks!

With the Snow Leopard OS X 10.6 retail DVD, the license is usually for one computer at a time to be using the installed system. However as soon as each computer is upgraded to 10.6.8 and running adequately, any computers fated to access the App Store or  Mac App Store for OS X upgrade to 10.7.5, would no longer be running Snow Leopard 10.6; so the license would be open for another upgrade at least to 10.6.8.
The ailing Mac with only one RAM slot should probably not be upgraded to a higher OS X than 10.6.8, in fact you'd likely need all the supported RAM an undamaged computer would normally have in a full upgrade, for a later OS X to work adequately. Given the damaged machine is running on borrowed time, and needs a hardware repair (such as a specialist authorized Apple repair service can do, in or out of warranty) the least effort involved would be better.
The older iLife and other applications that ran OK in Leopard 10.5.8 & earlier won't do so well after Snow Leopard 10.6.8 because a feature is not available after 10.6.8 by the name Rosetta to run older powerPC based applications that were common. Those will not run in later 10.7+ or without Rosetta installed from the Install disc in 10.6.8. This may add a layer of difficulty if you have application installers from another era.
There are a few fairly good highly capable portable Mac repairer service companies that could fix the issue in the partially failed MacBook for reasonable cost, and inspect the rest of the computer, before offering a warranty on their own work. Some of these also offer repaired models as part of their overall business. One that I have brief familiarity with some 8 or 9 years ago, was wegenermedia.com & sent an iBook to them in the mail. And recently discussed with them a repair to my first-edition MacBook 1.83GHz coreduo.
With only one RAM slot working you could try either chip, to see if one works better than another; however the way core 2 duo processors use RAM it is better if each slot has similar RAM, since it may affect processing as well as data flow. Later models really prefer matching spec sets.
Have you looked into the iFixit manuals to see the effort involved (if they show it) behind getting to the logic board? Some aspects of repair can lead to more damages than the cure was meant to fix.
    Hopefully it will work OK.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Dynamic Parameter Problem after Upgrade to 2008 from XI

    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
I'm having a problem with a dynamic populated parameter options on a report. I open the report up in XI (where the report was developed) and it works as expected. If I open up the same report up in 2008 the parameter fields aren't populating or correctly displaying. If recreate the report from scratch in 2008 they work fine.  Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix, that will allow me run an XI report correctly in 2008? Thanks

  • Upgrade of 2008 R2 SP3 stops 2008 instance

    Hello,
I have a server with both SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2 and am in the process to update the 2008 R2 version.
So my question is as follows:
If I upgrade 2008 R2 to the newest version does this interrupt connectivity to the 2008 instance? Or is the 2008 always available through out the process fo upgrading 2008 R2?
    Regards
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
Two different instances are not related to each other. So upgrade of your SQL 2008 R2 instance will not create any issues to your SQL 2008 instance and it will continue to run unless there is a system wide performance issue. However, if there is a server
reboot then both instances will be unavailable.

  • Error Starting Certificate Authority after upgrading in place from Server 2003 Enterprise (32 bit) to Server 2008 Enterprise (32 bit).

Hope this is the place to seek help with Active Directory Certificate Services.  We recently upgraded in place an issuing CA in our lab from 2003 to 2008 and the upgrade of the OS was successful but the CA service now will not start.
    The error is:
    Error 0xc8000222 (ESE: -546)
More info.  We did stop the CA service prior to doing the upgrade.

Answering my own question with the hopes to help someone else.
The problem has something to do with the logs for the certificate database.  There is some sort of a format conflict after upgrading to 2008.
To get around this error, and get the Certificate Authority service to start, remove all the logs from the C:\Windows\system32\CertLog directory that should be where your .edb database file lives, leave the database file there
This worked for us on three of four of our CA servers, the other one had a database that went down in a dirty state, so we had to use ESEUTIL utility to fix the database.
NOTE: there is no ESEUTIL utility on the CA servers, so we had to copy our database to an Exchange server in our test lab, then run ESEUTIL /MH to see what the Status is, it may say Dirty or Clean, then we ran ESEUTIL / P (P for Repair, go figure I know
right) anyway that fixed the database, so we copied it back over to the CA and started the service
hope this helps some of you out, we have a case opened with Microsoft Technical Support on this issue and will update this thread with their feedback as well once they get back to us (it has been a week already)

  • Upgrade Multiple servers from windows 2003 to 2008

    Hi All,
How could i upgrade all my servers (1000 around) from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2 without loosing system settings, profiles and applications.
Your speedy reply is highly appreciated.

Since Windows Server 2008 R2 only supports 64-bit the first thing to check is that all of your 2003 boxes are running 64-bit Windows. If they are then an in-place upgrade is possible, but if they're running 32-bit Windows then there is no way to directly
upgrade them. Your only option with 32-bit Windows 2003 is to either upgrade to 2008 (which does support 32-bit), or migrate everything to a new server.
Other than that, the question then becomes what are those servers running. If they're running Microsoft services then it should be fairly straight forward, but if they're running 3rd party services then you need to check with the 3rd party company whether
their software (or more specifically the version of their software you currently have installed) supports 2008 R2.
For the Windows services there are some differences, but I believe the upgrade process handles the transition for you for the most part. Have a look at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff972408(v=ws.10).aspx which details the process, and goes into the changes for each of the main Windows Server roles, and those things
you need to be aware of. As mentioned in that article, when you start the upgrade process you're offered a link to a compatibility report which will tell you if there's anything on the server which will break or cause issues with the upgrade. View that report
and review what it tells you before you start the upgrade. You may find that some tools, addons etc need to be uninstalled or upgraded before you can start the actual upgrade, but if the report gives you the green light you should be fine to continue without
    any issues.
Finally, from the wording of your question I'm guessing you're wondering about getting the servers upgraded at the same time? Personally I'm not aware of any way to do that, but even if one did exist I wouldn't do it. There's too much of a chance that something
will go wrong, probably in some small minor way, but if you've just tried to upgrade all the servers at the same time, when you get reports telling you that something is no longer working you'll have a much harder time working out what caused it than if you
know that only servers a, b and c have been upgraded today, so the issue is likely to be with one of those.

  • After upgrade my MBP from snow leopard to mountain lion all my smb connections stop to work.

After upgrade my MBP from snow leopard to mountain lion all my smb connections stop to work.
Now iám using mac os 10.8.2
I can see the server, I can choose the drive, but when try to open a folder the message on Finder is: You don't have permissions to see the content.
I already delete the key and try to connect again, but the problem persist. Already try change the ip from file server. Already try differents users. (admin, guest, etc...)
I have a windows server 2008 and a NAS working with SMB protocol. Both with the same problem.
That problem occurs only on Finder, if I try see the folder by Terminal, is possible to see my files.
    Any Solution ?
    Any Tip ?
    Any Question ?

Not knowing how much RAM is installed in your iMac, your iMac can take a total of 8 GBs of RAM.
Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, I would strongly suggest installing the maximum 8 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
Here is OWC's link to your model iMac and the RAM modules you will need.macsales
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/8566DDR3S8GP/
You can purchase and download OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store in the OS X dock.
Before installing, it would be prudent to make a backup copy of all of your important data or your entire current system. Either using, optical discs, USB flash drives or external hard drives.
This is too insure protection of your data in case something goes wrong with the install of OS X Mountain Lion.
    Good Luck!

We have a new project to start upgrade windows 2000 to 2003 or 2008 (Wich it is better ) . As I woudl like to know what our options here .any reference will be more useful .You would need to go with Windows 2003 as Windows 2008 is not certified with 11i -- See (Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes, Release 11i (11.5.10.2) [ID 316806.1]) for details.
I think of cloning option . What do you think ?You can use Rapid Clone to clone the instance from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 as per the following docs.
Rapid Clone Documentation Resources, Release 11i and 12 [ID 799735.1]
Or, you could just upgrade the OS directly, and in this case please make sure you follow the steps in these docs.

Yes, you can add a 2012 server as a domain controller in your 2003 R2 functional level Active Directory.  All AD information will replicate to the 2012 DC.

  • CA Server Migration from 2003 R2 to 2008 R2

What would be the best path to upgrade the Certification Authority (CA) server for a domain that is currently running off Windows Server 2003 R2?
    1. In-place upgrade to 2008
    2. Backup existing configuration, decommission server from domain, bring a 2008 R2 server online to the domain with the same name and then restore configuration

    Hello,
is that a single server domain? So everything is installed on a single DC?

  • Exchange 2013 Upgrade to CU7 from SP1 - installs successfully - Can no longer connect via ECP/OWA/Powershell/Outlook/Autodiscover

    Hi There,
I am having massive issues with my Exchange Server.
I have 2 Nodes, one has CAS and Mailbox Roles, the other just Mailbox.
I "upgraded" the CAS server to CU7 without any errors / issues.
Once I had restarted, nothing worked any more..  I couldn't access ECP, OWA, Powershell, Autodiscover or get outlook to connect.
I managed to get Powershell working, but changing the physical directory to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\PowerShell" from "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\FrontEnd\HttpProxy\PowerShell"
But for the life of me I cannot get ECP or OWA working (haven't even tried anything else)!
I am getting a load of Events with ID 1003.
The only error I am getting is:

Unfortunately this is very urgent for me a these are production servers and currently there is no email for my company.
So Please please please can someone help.
I have tried many many many things from various sites, and so far nothing has worked.
    Thanks,

    Hi Tim,
We can do the following steps to have a try:
    1. Check Application settings in IIS Application under Exchange Back End web site for BinSearchFolders value.
    a. Open IIS Manager. Expand Sites > Exchange Back End.
    b. Click ecp. Open Application Settings in /ecp Home.
    c. Please check whether the value for “BinSearchFolders” is changed to an invalid value.
    2. Verify Authentication settings for OWA and ECP.
    a. In IIS manager > Default Web Site, make sure Anonymous Authentication is Enabled in Authentication.
    b. Confirm that "Require SSL" is checked on the root of the default website.
    c. Make sure the Basic and Forms authentications are enabled in Default Web Site and Ntlm, WindowsIntegrated authentication methods are enabled in Exchange Back End for both OWA and ECP.

You would reinstall 10.6 using your installation DVD.
Out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have? Recent versions of OS X really shine with 4GB or more.
