Upgrade to 5.1 from FCP Studio 5

Hi everyone,
Just looking for some advice... I currently have FCP Studio 5 running on G5.
Does anyone know if there is a patch update for FCP5 to 5.1? I can't seem to find it in the Downloads page. Or do I have to pay for the upgrade?
Also, would FCP 5 work on the Macbook Pro with Rosetta?
Thanks for your help

There is a fee to upgrade from 5.0.x to 5.1.x You will not find it on the downloads as it is a completely redone operating code and comes on many, many disks.
Some have reported FCP5.0.x running on intel macs under Rosetta. Your mileage may vary.

  • Free upgrade from FCP Studio (5) to FCPX?

I have plunked down a couple of euros a few years ago to get Final Cut Pro Studio (v5.1).
Is there a way I can "convert" or "trade in" my FCP Studio for FCPX?

No. FCP X is a completely new application, sold only through the Mac App Store. There is no upgrade from old versions. Anyway, in the old days even an upgrade would cost at least as much as the whole cost of FCP X...

  • Compressor opens but am not able to transfer files from FCP studio?

Help! I have tried installing FCP Studio (6.02) 2 to 3 times. I have tried removing Compressor from the Applications list under the library preferences.
When I open Final Cut and highlight the sequence and then send to to Compressor, I see the Compressor title open up at the top but my files do not appear. I don't know if its corrupt or if there is a reset to cause all the windows to appear. I am able to use the drop down list to make the inspector and other windows appear but cannot find my files.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

That signals a problem with QMaster, which is most likely something you didn't remove prior to your reinstall. Apple published a document to help troubleshoot this problem, which has been linked to numerous times on this forum.

  • EDL from FCP Studio to FCP HD

    Hello all,
I've been working on a project in FCP Studio (version 5.1.1) and want to give it back to the director so he can look at it on his laptop. However he only has FCP HD (version 4.5) so obviously the project format is too advanced.
Would creating an EDL be the best course of action here, without him having to spend a lot of money on both the OS and FCP upgrades?
I've never used EDL's before, is there a good workflow anywhere on the web, someone can point me in the direction of?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Fred

Export your sequence as an XML file. See here for details.

  • Still images from FCP Studio 2

Ok, I have done it again. I edited a documetnary yet, forgot to have a photographer on the set.
I have captured some great images using my HVX200 but of course when exporting a still from FCP, the resolutin is only 72dpi and I need 300.
Could I import teh stills from FCP into Photoshop and just change the dpi? Would this be suitable for printing the images?
When doing that, it seems just to make them a larger photo.
    THANKS!
    Lawrence

Yes, you can change the DPI to 300. No, this won't make the images any sharper.  They started out 1280x1080, 72dpi.  Merely increasing the DPI won't make them higher resolution.  It will still look like video.  If you hire a photoshop pro, a graphics designer, they might have a few plugins in their toolkit that can help, like Genuine Fracals that help with upscaling smaller images, plus know-how on how to deal with this. But it won't look like it originated from a 12 MP camera.
Suitable for printing? That's up to you. How does it look to you?

  • Subclip import from fcp studio

is it possible to import subclips from FCP 7 projects into FCPX?

reading further in the 7toX instructions, contrary to your comment, they say
Translating a Final Cut Pro Project
To translate a full Final Cut Pro project:
    Make sure there is nothing selected in the Browser;
Choose the File menu and from the Export submenu select XML…
When imported into Final Cut Pro X after translation, the bins will be translated to keyword collections, based on the bin name. Log notes and other metadata will be in the Notes field for each clip.

  • Export FLV or SWF from FCP Studio 2?

I had FCP 5 and was able to export using > Quicktime Conversion> Macromedia FLV or Macromedia SWF.
For some reason, I can't do it anymore, since the options have disappeared. Any ideas on where I can find the plug-ins needed or updates?

I bought OnFlix Exporter to do this. Flash is proprietary to Macromedia, so I'm pretty sure you need to pay to add this capability to Final Cut Pro.
A very cheap program that will make Flash movies for you, without tying up your Final Cut system to do converstions, is Mediahub.

  • Are FCP Studio 2 manuals good for FCP Studio 3 upgrade?

Hey there people:  Just received the FCP Studio 3 upgrade from FCP Studio 2, and the tiny manual that comes with it.  Are the FCP Studio 2 manuals good for detail about FCP 3?

    BenB wrote:
The tiny books are all already on your computer in the Help menu inside FCP.  And none of the tiny books are User Manuals.
In FCP 7, go to the Help menu, you have direct access to the User Manual (and other manuals, including the tiny printed book) directly from within the Application itself.  You can zoom in/out, you can also search them with keyworlds.  Very powerful, very handy, very easy, very clearly written, way better than paper.
Downloaoding them only puts a second copy on your hard drive, taking up more room, waste of time, since you already have it on your hard drive, as I just stated.  And printing them would take literally thousands of pages of paper.
    Good grief.
The complete set of FCP and studio documentation is accessible from the Mac Help system just by holding the Home button. You do not need to have FCP open at all. The problem with Mac Help is the window comes forward and blocks all underlying windows making it difficult or impossible to perform the operations described.
Being able to open the documentation in Preview or Acrobat is remarkably useful (excellent chapters, bookmarking, indexing, searching not available in Mac Help) so downloading the PDF  versions is not only a good idea, it might be exactly the solution you need.
And the documentation is so a "user manual."

Provides comprehensive instructions for setting up a Final Cut Pro editing system and using Final Cut Pro to ingest media, edit video, and output completed projects.

  • What's the best compressor setting to export from FCP to DVD Studio Pro?

I am exporting an 11 minute video from FCP Studio 2 via compressor to go to DVD Studio Pro. It's DV PAL 720 x 576 and I intend the final DVD to be 16:9 so I'll be choosing 16:9 letterbox in DVDStudio Pro.
As my video is only 11 minutes am I losing quality by selecting Best Quality DVD 90 minutes?
And is the way I described above the best way to go about it?

You should try the setting as a start, though there are many tweaks you can do if you do not like the results. One of the biggest tweaks is the frame controls (adds more time but can help.)
You should send out to a preset for 16:9 (or make your own setting with aspect ratio of 16:9) then flag the track in DVD SP to 16:9 Letterbox

  • TiBook 1.0ghz and FCP Studio

Does anyone know if a Titanium 15-inch Powerbook with 512 RAM is capable of running Final Cut Studio? I am currently using FCP 3.0 and am still using OS 10.2.8, but am considering an upgrade to 10.4 and FCP Studio.
I did some poking around on the FCP site, and saw that they list some recommended graphics card, and mine (ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 with 64MB of VRAM) was not on it. Does this mean I'm out of luck?
    Thanks!
    Aaron

Everything but motion will run on a 1 gig ti book. IF you do this, you really ought to max out the ram.
When I first bought fcp5, I put it on the identical computer. Everything but motion worked, but not fast by any means.
Very glad I'm now running fcp on the quad instead. so is my Ti book!

  • Upgrade question from FCP 3 to FC Studio

    Hello all;
I have FCP 3 and know I can upgrade to Final Cut Studio for $699. What I am planning on doing is wiping my system and installing fresh Tiger at the same time. WIll I be forced to try and re-install my old FCP 3 ? and THEN apply the studio upgrade? Or can I install Studio Upgrade from scratch on a virgin clean system?
    Thanks all

All you will need is the serial number. The previous version does not have to be on the hard drive.
    cheers

  • Upgrading to FCP studio 3 from 2.0

If i upgrade to FCP studio 3.0 for $300 do I need all my serial numbers or just the main one for FCP for all components such as motion and dvd studio to work?
    Thanks!

When you insert the FCS 3 installer disc it will ask for the serial number. Enter the # that came with it.
It will then prompt: "You have entered an upgrade serial number. Please enter the original serial number. That's where you put in the serial # from the old full retail version.
That's all. If you got it right, the installer will proceed to the next step.

  • DVD Pro 4 upgrade to FCP Studio?

    Hi
I have DVD Pro 2 on my Mac and can buy a v4 upgrade which gives me the chance to get the FCP Studio from Apple store.
My question is: What do I need for the upgrade to the Studio version?
Point is, I have DVD Pro 2 installed on my Mac but the v4 I will get from a friend in Australia, which the physical shippment will cost more than the whole software.
Is it enough when he will send me all the serial numbers which are with the (original shrinkwrapped) software or do I need to install the software to be able to install (or order) the FCP Studio upgrade?
    Thanks a lot Wolfgang
    G4 933   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You need the actual instal disc itself - as Apple ask for it to be sent back as proof of purchase. You don't need to install the software, though. I would get him to send you the DVD and serial number stickers only.
Be aware that the Studio upgrade dosn't include any printed manuals, just electronic .pdfs.

  • FCP 4 upgrade to FCP Studio 2?

I've got a lovely crumpled piece of paper here that I never filled out - an upgrade from FCP 4 to FCP Studio for a very reasonable rate - about $199 from memory.
Does this sort of upgrade still exist for Studio 2? Anybody? All I can find is the $700 package...

Your lovely crumpled paper expired in march.
The upgrade path from FCP4 to FCS2 is now $700.
Still, don't kick yourself too much as you didn't really lose any money by waiting.
If you had done the cross grade things would have worked out like this:
    FCP4 to FCP 5.1 > $200
    FCP 5.1 to FCS2 > $500
    total > $700
    have fun.

  • Universal crossgrade update from FCP HD to FCP Studio on Mac Book Pro

    Hi all,
Just ordered my universal upgrade for my MBP from Apple to go from FCP-HD to FCP Studio. My MBP has FCPHD installed on it. I installed it without being aware that it was not compatable with the intel chip.
Just wondering if there are any problems associated with simpy installing the complete crossgrade FCP Studio without first uninstalling FCPHD.
Or is it suggested to completely uninstall FCPHD before installing the new universal version of FCP studio.
The answer may ship with the software but I was wondering if I should start going through the uninstall process as I hear it is a bit involved.
    Thanks for any help.

When I attempt to install the 5.1 cross-grade on a newly formatted hard drive, that is also set as the boot drive with the latest version of OSX on my dual G5, the 5.1 install goes through the entire process up until I get to the part where it begins actually installing the actual software applications. Then it fails--quits- completely quits installing. And yes, both of my optical disk drives are working. I have another disk drive that contains the last version of Final Cut Studio and when I first tried to install the cross-grade on that drive it wont even get past the screen that says that the software is checking to see if it can be installed on the drive. I was told by someone at Apple Pro Applications support that if 5.1 would not install on a new formatted hard drive that contained nothing but the latest version of OSX that I had bad install disks. It's a matter of getting them replaced. I KEEP GETTING THE RUN AROUND!!! It's like no one at Apple cares. I wait over two hours to get help, but I really am not getting help. When I call Panasonic for help with my AJ-HD27H VariCam Camcorders, or my a Aj-HD1200 decks, they bend over backwards to help me. Or when I have a problem with a Canopus Editing System help is easy and reliable.
Is there anyone who knows from whom I can go for an easy replacement of these instal disks?????
