Upgrade to Acrobat 9

I am running Windows XP and have purchased CS5 which includes Acrobat 9.  I have installed all of CS5 but before I can install Acrobat 9 I need to remove Acrobat 8.1.5 (which was installed within CS3).
No matter what I do, I have been unable to remove Acrobat 8.1.5.
I have looked through the forum for answers and have done the following.
Used disk clean-up.
Downloaded, installed and run the file MSICUU2.exe (Windows installer/cleanup utility)
Re-installed CS3 Acrobat (from original disks), except that while "Adobe CS3 Design Premium" and "Shared Components" installed successfully, there was a "Component install failed" error message (i.e. Acrobat did not re-install or repair)
I have tried to uninstall from the original disks and there is still an error, that it cannot uninstall.
I noticed under "Help" in Acrobat itself, there is a "Repair Acrobat Installation" button.  I tried that, and I get the message: "ERROR 1606 could not access network location\startup". I also got this message when I tried to install Acrobat 9 after unsuccessfully trying to remove 8.1.5.
Can someone p-l-e-a-s-e   tell me what else I need to do to be able to update to Acrobat 9.  I had no problems with using Acrobat, and as far as I can tell, it is still working with no problems - I just cannot remove it.

As Acrobat 8 was installed as part of CS3 I think you have to scub it via the CS3 uninstall.
Regardless, look this over - it may be of help.

  • Cannot generate pdf in RoboHelp after upgrading to Acrobat 7.0 Pro

I just upgraded from Acrobat 7.0 to Acrobat 7.0 professional.  RoboHelp will no longer generate pdfs.  Get error "Cannot locate printer driver.  Reinstall Acrobat 7.0"
Am using RoboHelp for HTML version 6.

I don't have a compatibility chart for the versions of Acrobat and RoboHelp, not sure if that could be an issue. I assume Acrobat is working otherwise - for example, if you PDF from Word
It was the case that RH had to be installed before Word. I don't think that extended to Acrobat but it could be worth trying an uninstall and reinstall.
Also try setting Acrobat's compatibility settings to something low such as Acrobat 5.
Ultimately you may have to settle for generating to Word and creating the PDF from there.

Reason I had to chat with Customer Support is that I got the following message upon placing Upgrade Order.
What Different Country? It's the US. The ONLY placed I've lived my entire life! Apparently some software changes were made to the site and the PR Territory fell in a no-man's land.

  • Sharepoint server synch for Tracker not happening since upgrade to Acrobat 9 Pro

    Hi,
I have a user that is unable to share his comments and see updates in Tracker using Acrobat 9 Pro.  There is a warning on Server status that says "some workflows are in error."  It seems that synchronization is with the server is failing, though his connection to the network is otherwise solid.  User can go to the server and go to the folder and open the PDF folder without any issues, but synchronization with server within Acrobat 9 Pro Tracker is failing.  He can join reviews, but is unable to see other reivewers comments and can not see any of the other 8 reviewers listed, he can only see himself and the initiator.
I did verify that the initator and all reviewers are also using Acrobat 9 Pro.  Only this one reviewer is having issues, everyone else is ok.
The issue started to happen after user was upgraded to Acrobat 9 Pro. We did try a repair in add\remove programs, but this did not help.  I am wondering if there is anything on the backend, somewhere that needs to be changed.  User did go into a few other Shared Reviews on the Sharepoint server and was able to see 5 reviewers.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Is there some sort of unique identifier that needs to be changed?
    2. Can the initiator delete this one reviewer and then add him back, and would that possibly solve the issue?
    Thanks,
    Julie

After upgrading from acrobat 9.5 to XI pro my users have complained on slow typing when filling in form that were created in version 9.5?
The issue is they type but there is 2 second delay when it appears in the field.
    Windows 7 64bit

I see, I misread your reference to Reader 11 to mean you were using Acrobat 11, but it looks like it worked out anyway.
The base-14 fonts are special in PDF because they are guaranteed to be available even if they are not embedded. If you select a non-base-14 font for use with a form field, the entire font usually gets embedded, since each glyph it contains has to be available for use with the field. This can take up a lot of space if you do this a lot, and the space isn't reduced if you change back to a base-14 font later because the internal reference to it is not removed. This is caused by the bug I mentioned.
In your case, however, the entire font doesn't get embedded because fonts like it (e.g., large asian fonts with a lot of glyphs, Arial Unicode) would take up too much space if fully embedded. If it did, a 100KB PDF could bloat to 20MB with that one change. Instead, users are expected to have such fonts installed on their system, which is why you were prompted to install the font pack. This despite the fact that the font was not actually used by anything in your document, it was simply the orphaned reference to it that triggered this. This should get fixed in Acrobat eventually so this type of thing doesn't happen again.

  • Path(s) for upgrading a Acrobat 9 Pro to Acrobat XI Pro in terms of licensing?

    Hi all,
I have been asked to get details of upgrading our Acrobat 9 Pro to Acrobat XI Pro, but I am not sure about the licensing.
Can a license from Acrobat 9 Pro be upgraded to XI or it have to be a new purchase?
    Thanks in advance.
    Patrick.

Yes, an upgrade path is available from Acrobat 9 Pro or Acrobat X Pro to Acrobat XI Pro (but not any older version). You can purchase this in the online store.
You must make sure you have the serial number of Acrobat 9 Pro for insalling AND YOU NEED TO KEEP IT as it will be needed forever for reinstalling.

    Hi Shane,
Please download Acrobat X Pro from the link below.
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/other-downloads.html
Install the software and when prompted for the previous version qualifying product, select Acrobat 9 and enter the serial key of Acrobat 9.
This should install and activate Acrobat X Pro on the machine.

  • What are the benefits from upgrading from Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to Acrobat11 Pro?

What are the benefits from upgrading from Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to Acrobat11 Pro?

Acrobat is a program used by a wide variety of users for a even wider number of purposes. So if we simply gave you a feature list, that wouldn't be very helpful.
Tell us how you use Acrobat, and what you do with it, and we can suggest improvements that were made in Acrobat X and XI Pro.

  • Cant upgrade from Acrobat 9 Pro to Acrobat 9 Pro extended

    Hello everyone,
I purchased the upgrade from Acrobat 9 Pro to Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, but get an error when I try to install.  The error says "Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed.  Setup will now terminate.".  How is it that Acrobat pro is "more functional" then pro extended.  I bought the upgrade because I need the 3d capabilities of extended pro.  How do I work around this issue?

Oops.  I just read that I need to uninstall acrobat 9 first.  I now have a new issue.  Acrobat extended installed fine, but now it is doing an upgrade check.  It is asking for the serial number for the acrobat 9 pro.  My old version was part of the Creative suite 4.  When I enter the serial number from the creative suite it comes back as an invalid number.  Why is this?

  • Why upgrade from Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to X or XI

What are the benefits from upgrading from Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to Acrobat  10 or 11?

You should ask this question in one of the Acrobat forums. The following is probably the most appropriate one: http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/creating__editing_%26_exporting_pdfs?view=discus sions
It would be helpful to know the type of things you use Acrobat for. Some features have been enhanced significantly and some functionality you have with Acrobat 9 Extended has been removed.

  • Upgrade to Acrobat XI Standard from X Pro

I'd like to upgrade to Acrobat XI.  I currently  have X Pro, when I attempt to purchase from Adobe site, it prompts me to enter my current version, but only lists 9 and X Standard.  Can I use the upgrade option to go from X Pro to XI Standard?

    Hi SeanAccent,
You cannot upgrade from Acrobat Pro to Standard version. I would suggest to contact Adobe Customer Service team and ask for upsell and they should be able to assist you.
    Hope that helps

  • Upgraded to Acrobat X and signature field stop working

Upgraded to Acrobat X and IntegriSign signature field stop working.  When I open the pdf and click on the signature field I get a "This plug-in is intended for validating signatures signed using earlier versions of Acrobat.  To sign using this version of Acrobat, use "IntegriSign for Acrobat 9.0 and later" handler.
Under Perferences in Acrobat, 9.0 and later is checked.
In LiveCycle Designer - IntegriSign  is indicated for Signature handler.
Can't figure out how to solve this.   I have uninstalled, reset IntegriSign and Adobe settings a trillion times!
    Please help!

I tried these steps several times.  Kinda long:
Here are the steps to setup ePad signatures with Adobe Acrobat 9 and later:
    >
    > You will need to create a self signed certificate (id) and have IntegriSign select this to be used with Acrobat. Here are the instructions:
    >
    > 1. In Adobe Acrobat choose Advanced > Security Settings.
    >
    > 2. Select Digital IDs on the left, and then click the Add ID button.
    >
    > 3. Select Create a Self-Signed Digital ID for Use with Acrobat, and click Next.
    >
    > 4. Specify Windows Certificate Store, to store the digital ID, and click next.
    >
    > 5. Type your name, email address, and other personal information for your digital ID. When you certify or sign a document, the name appears in the Signatures panel and in the signature field.
    >
    > If the computer is for public signing, you can replace your name with the name of the PC. It is not practical to have a digital id for every person that signs. IntegriSign will still ask for the signers name and signature.
    >
    > 6. Go to Windows start => all programs => IntegriSignDesktop => Desktop => Desktop Configuration => Select button (under certificate selection in the lower right of the window). At this time, you should see the digital id you just created.
    >
    > 7. Choose the certificate you just created, and click the OK button.
    >
    > 8. Go to Adobe Acrobat ->Edit -> Preferences -> Security, click on the Advanced button and make sure IntegriSign for acrobat 9 and later is selected as the default in the Creation. Also make sure the Verification is set to default method and the method is IntegriSign for Acrobat 9 and later.
    >
    > If IntegriSign is not an option then go under Edit/Preferences-->General (not Security) find the "Application Startup" checkbox 'Use only certified plug-in' CHECKED. Uncheck the box and repeat the first procedure.
    >
    > 9. Now, open a PDF file, and perform the signature using ePad, and should be able to sign.
