Upgrade to Cisco Prime 4.2

Hi,
I currently use an upgraded version of LMS 3.2 SP1 for 1.5K devices and I've managed to persuade the finance dept that I need to upgrade to 4.2.
My question is regarding the upgrade process because I currently use a physical Windows server and need to use a VM on a UCS Blade for the new version. In the documentation I've found makes reference to the fact that I need to perform a remote upgrade from one system to the other but I want to start with a clean slate and don't really want to transfer all the discovered devices or current jobs to the new install.
All I want to do is make sure that the version we're purchasing (upgrade from 3.2 SP1 for up to 300 devices) is properly licensed. I was going to download the eval version, install it on the VM and then apply the license but it's the "applying the license" part that I'm concerned with. From what I've read it looks as though I need to perform a normal backup and then migrate all the data across to the new installation. Is there a way to just transfer the license details or do I have to follow the complete process then delete everything I don't want so that I can start again?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Mark.

Hi Mark,
if you want to start afresh with LMS 42 without migrating the data its completely fine. You dont have to perform remote migration steps and you can start afresh from 0 with new Server.
For details on which OS are supported please check the guide:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.2/install/guide/prereq.html#wp1119955
In short now only win2k8 and Sol 10 and a OVA linux soft appliance is available for VMWare.
Yes you can install the Eval copy of LMS 4.2 and whenevry you apply license before the expiry of Eval it becomes a licensed software with lic device limit.
Point to notice is in Eval mode only 100 devices are supported so more than that will not be managed by LMS 4.2, hence add more devices once you apply license.
Installing license is easy task too, see Installing the License File.
As a suggestion to get devices more faster on your new LMS 4.2 is you can export the DCR devices with credentials from LMS 3.2 and import DCR back on LMS 4.2, which will get all the device list without older data. Else a Standard Device  Discovery in LMS 4.2 should be able to do the job easily as well.
-Thanks
Vinod

  • Upgrade from Cisco Prime infrastructure verion 2.0 to 2.1

Request you all to please let me know if i have to install point patch before upgrading the cisco prime infrastructure 2.0 to 2.1.

After moving to 2.1, there is a 2.1.1 point patch currently available.
You should install that and the latest device package (4.0 as of this posting).
As always, the Release Notes are the best place to check the current available updates.

  • LMS 4.1 (Windows) & NCS 1.1 (VM) Upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Hi All,
Im getting a bit confused about the whole upgrade migration process for the following config to Cisco Prime Infrastructure:
    LMS - Version 4.1 , 500 devices. Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1
    NCS – version 1.1 , 50 devices  Red Hat Linux ( 64 Bit)  (Installation software - NCS-VA-1.0.1.4-small.ova)
I want to be able to backup databases and migrate licensing from LMS and NCS to one platform. Does anyone have experience of this and could possible guide me thorugh this process. LMS has SAS and NCS has SAU.
Help will be very much appreciated!!

It's a couple of steps but can be done. You may want to reconsider getting off of LMS since the latest Prime Infrastructure (PI 1.2) does not have full feature compatibility with the latest LMS (4.2.3). Have a look here for the comparison.
If you still want to do it:
    1. Upgrade your NCS to PI 1.2 (instructions). If you're going with a total of 550 devices on a combined license you should use the medium ova file to get the correct server resource allocation. You will need to get the new license from the TAC or via the licensing portal. I'm not sure if you can get the PI license for your LMS upgrade directly via the portal but you do have the entitlement for LMS 4.2 and PI 1.2 (combined licenses not to exceed the original LMS number) if your SAS is current. You may need to contact the TAC and ask for the licensing team.
    2. Upgrade your LMS to 4.2 and patch it to 4.2.2 (instructions). Once you've done that, there is a simple menu command to export your device credentials to Prime (Admin, System, Export Data to PI in LMS and then Operation, Device Work Center, Bulk Import in PI - instruction on Page 18 here). Do that and then in the new PI installation import the devices.
Verify everything is working and you can decommission the LMS server.

Because of my simple mind I am strugling to upgrade my CPI from 1.2.0.103 to 1.3.

I did configure the repository. And next i tried to copy the file using tftp, ftp and also from local cdrom.
Not one of my tries did work.
I need your help on the config steps as i believe i do something wrong or miss a command/setting

  • Cisco Prime 1.3 Upgrade Hangs

I'm trying to upgrade our Cisco Prime 1.2 to 1.3. When I complete the command to upgrade, it then asks if I want to save the current ADE-OS to the running configuration. I say yes and it saves it. Then it begins the upgrade process. I get:
    Initiating Application Upgrade...
      Stage 1 of 7: Transferring file ...
That is where it is stuck at. I have looked at the server I have the upgrade file on and it shows the transfer. The transfer has been running for close to an hour.
Any thoughts or ideas why it would hang here?

Please check the link below to download the software as I feel the steps you are following is correct and you may try to do it again downloading this software. Might the software is not downloaded proper.

  • WCS and LMS to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 Upgrade

    Hello,
Our customer is currently having WCS for 500 devices and LMS 3.2 for 1500 devices. We are planning to upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3.
I want to check is the upgrade procedure that we have planned is ok or we have missed something.
Phase 1: WCS to CPI 1.3 upgrade
    1. Check that WCS is at 7.0.230.0  version
    2. Export WCS database
    3. Install NCS 1.1.1.24 software
    4. Contact cisco to obtain trial license for NCS software (L-WCS-NCS1-M-K9 license).
    5. Migrate WCS license and import it in NCS software
    6. Migrate WCS data to NCS software using ncs migrate command
    7. Patch NCS software
    8. Inline upgrade to CPI 1.3 software
    9. Install proper licenses on CPI 1.3 (WCS and LMS device count)
My concern in this first phase is should I use NCS large image since our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3 software should manage 2000 devices at the end.
Or is it better not to perform inline upgrade and insted go with exporting data from NCS and then importing them to CPI 1.3 that is going to be installed separately?
Phase 2: LMS 3.2 to CPI upgrade
    1. Export LMS 3.2 database
    2. Install LMS 4.2 software
    3. Install license to LMS 4.2
    4. Restore data from LMS 3.2 to LMS 4.2
    5. Direct upgrade from LMS 4.2 to 4.2.2
    6. Export the device list with credentials from LMS 4.2.2  and import it as a Bulk Import in CPI 1.3
At the end we will have CPI 1.3 and LMS 4.2.2 software running.
Is it possible to directly upgrade from LMS 4.2 to LMS 4.2.4 and then import data to CPI 1.3 or we need to go with 4.2.2 version?

    Jelena

Are this errors going to affect our LMS 4.2 operations?
Then we have upgraded to LMS 4.2.2 and exported data and credentiales for PI import.
On PI 1.3 we have installed WCS 500 devices upgrade license and LMS 1500 upgrade license and now we are having 2000 devices lifecycle license. We have successfully restored WCS data in PI and we have imported LMS devices as bulk import. What is strange is that we have this message in prime regarding licensing:
On LMS 3.2 our customer had saved unlimited number of configuration versioning. After upgrading to LMS 4.2 we can only see last 3 configurations regardless of unlimided number of configurations in previous LMS, so my question is where can we find older configurations in LMS 4.2?
We are planning to turn unlimited versioning on CPI 1.3 now, so our customer will again have feature that they need. Do you have some experiance regarding disk space when all device configurations are stored forever?
    Thank you for your help.

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade to version 2.0 without additional cost? the licenses from
Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 has to be upgraded or we need only to rehost the VUDI.
Also could be possible to upgrade LMS 4.x to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.0?
    thanks!

The two features you mention are two big missing ones. Another is full syslog capability. I don't believe CiscoView or day one support via package updates is included either.
Another is less tangible - the depth of experience and documentation available for LMS vs. Prime Infrastructure (particularly the wired management features). I agree for wireless PI 2.0 looks good. Some new features are coming for wired that look promising but they are new as of PI 2.0 so I'm taking a wait and see on them.
I hope to get 2.0 up in my lab in the next week or so and will hope to be pleasantly surprised but that's seldom the case with a major new release.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure and no new events / alarms since update to 2.2.1

    Hello,
I have upgraded our Cisco Prime Infrastructure from version 2.1 to 2.2.1 (with a backup and restore). We have round about 700 APs and three 5208 Controller. So far everything seems to work really fine. The only problem is that there are no new alarms/events under "Monitor", "Alarms and Events".
The last entries (events and alarms) are dated before the upgrade. Other informations (like client counts for example) are correct.
Is there a known bug related to my problem? Can anybody help?
    Thanks

    I have done some research:
I see the following problems in the log-package (downloaded from Prime):

I think that there is a problem with a too small tablespace. But I can´t fix that. Anybody? ;)

  • Cisco Prime NCS Recovery

    Hi,
A Cisco Prime NCS physical appliance has been shipped with version NCS 1.1
Then it has been upgraded to:
    1) ncs_patch-1.1.0.58-upgrade-12.tar.gz
    2) PI-upgrade-bundle-1.3.0.20.tar.gz
Our customer have got only 1.2 licenses.  How can we downgrade the appliance to 1.2 ?
Or how can we re-install 1.1 or 1.2,   for both versions we did not find the iso's to download.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
What is the Current  verison of NCS  ,you are using ?
AFAIk, you can Installed PI 1.3 directly as PI 1.2 is not available for download.
Conatct the License Team and they will re-host the license for you.
you can downlaod the iso file from the below link:
    http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284652876&flowid=38562&softwareid=284272932&release=1.3&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
Note:Upgrade from Cisco Prime Network Control System 1.1.2.12 or 1.1.3.2 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3.0.20 is not supported.
    Thanks-
    Afroz

  • Upgrade WCS to Prime

Hi Can anyone please advise if a current working Cisco WCS systems can be upgraded to Cisco Prime. Also is there a requirment to upgrade the license or is it just a case of upgrading the software.

Yes, you can upgrade WCS 7.x to Prime Infrastructure. I'm not sure if you can go straight to 1.2 but definitely you can go WCS 7 - NCS 1.1 (PI 1.1) - PI 1.2. See this guide.
A new license is required. See this reference (Table 7) for details.

  • SNMP on CAPWAP via WCS or Cisco Prime

We are interested in adding SNMP settings to all of our CAPWAP wireless access points.  There is no way to do this via any of our controllers or WCS.  We are soon to upgrade to Cisco Prime.
I am able to log in via telnet to a 3502 and manually enter SNMP commands, however I can't save the running config to NVRAM.  I can save the running config to flash, but can't change the config register to look at flash for the config on startup.
Is there a way to configure and save SNMP parameters on CAPWAP wireless access points?

The referenced document states that SNMP management is available.  However, The SNMP settings on a controller (5508 as an example) allows for traps on the controller itself and not on the CAPWAPs.
We have an inventory management system that we want to import our CAPWAPs.  There are over 2500 so manually imputing the CAPWAPs can be a tedious task.  The management system uses SNMP to discover said info.  All of the controllers are already cataloged.

  • Cisco Prime Network Control System Health Monitor Reflected XSS

    Apologies for the n00b question,
I am a security manager not a Cisco guru so please bear with me
Our Nessus scanner has picked this vulnerability up
Nessus states that there is no fix
Looking on Cisco's bug search the status is set to fixed,
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCud18375
I found this article on Cisco's website
Multiple Vulnerabilities in the WLSE Appliance - Cisco 2011-12-10
There are two vulnerabilities that exist in the CiscoWorks Wireless LAN Solution Engine (WLSE). The first is a cross site scripting (XSS) vulnerability that may allow an attacker to gain administrative privileges on the system. The second is a local privilege escalation vulnerability that can be used by an attacker who already has authenticated access to the command line interface to obtain access to the underlying operating system. Cisco has made free software available to address this vulnerability for affected customers. This advisory is available at http://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-20060419-wlse
Is WLSE part of WCS or am I grasping at straws here? Our techies don't seem to think so
We are currently running CISCO Wireless Controller System (WCS) running on Version 7.0.240.0 which is end of life
Is there an upgrade path for newer software?
Has anyone else encountered this issue
    http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/830316

    1. Its possible but some sort of lock/bug is preventing the removal of the controller. Is the controller reachable? Have you attempted to restart NCS to see if you are able to remove the controller afterwards?
    2. 8510 not supported on NCS, you must upgrade to Cisco Prime 1.3.x or higher.

  • Can we upgrade IOS in WLC 5508 through CISCO prime?

I have CISCO prime 2.0 and CISCO WLC 5508 HA SSO pair.
I would like to upgrade the software code for the WLC HA pair.
Can I do through the CISCO prime ......
    As per the link :http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/7-5/High_Availability_DG.html#pgfId-43571
    1. After the WLCs are configured in the HA setup, the Standby WLC cannot be upgraded directly from the TFTP/FTP server.
Prime do the upgrade through FTP server , so will it be ok if we do the upgrade through it, for HA WLC.

Please check this link to upgrade wLC software in HA setup.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/7-5/High_Availability_DG.html
Once the Primary WLC complete the upgrade , it will transfer the entire image to the Standby WLC via the Redundant Port.
