Upgrade to CS4 and (only) three questions

Bridge does not open automatically with PS even though I have told it to do so every place I can find.
Some tool tips -- especially the icons at the bottom of palettes -- do not show themselves. The tool tip option in preferences isturned on.
I use two monitors; PS opens in my little uncalibrated monitor filled with pallattes just as I want it to. Bridge opens in the main (calibrated) monitor where it is supposed to. But new files open under the pallates on the the wrong monitor. In CS3, new files opened on the main monitor on top of Bridge. How can I make CS4 behave that way?
Thanks.

As Sébastien said, upgrading on the same platform is no problem anddoes not involve any extra steps beyond decativating the software to be able to install it on the new operating system. For platform switching, you are required to fill out some forms where you guarantee to no longer use the Windows version (which, of course Adobe can easily verify based on activations, anyway) and request to be given access to the Mac version and issued a new serial number. For that you may need to pay some service fee if you do it halfway inbetween, but if you e.g. were to upgrade from CS4 to CS5 while switching platforms, it should be free.

  • LiveCycle and AD three questions.

    I have three Javascript questions.
    1)     How would I go about finding the current domains which user is authenticated to.  What I need to do is have a form that can only be used while in certain domain.
    2)     Would also like a way of populating a forms value based on the current logged in user of the system (active directory.)
    3)      Am also looking from information on how I could use an existing AD account to sign a form, basically creating a maintaining a digital signature for user that is password synced to their existing AD account.  Allowing them to ‘sign’ the form by entering their AD credentials.    Realizing this is a complex subject I have been searching Adobe Tech support for a place to start and as yet being unsuccessful.
    Thanks!

I can get the process forms, but not following steps 3-4.  Please

i have one solution for your second question.
    1. Drag the process fields(from custom library) to the form
    2. A field named AWS_ASSIGNED_ID will be in invisible mode.
    3. The field will hold the currently loged in users's AD id (the column
name is refprincipalid) in the Adobe table
    4. use this table to get all details of a user from edcPrincipal table.
If unclear, i'm ready to make it elaborate for you.

SHOULD I KEEP THIS OR BUY ANOTHER ONE WITH 64 bit  I WANT TO USE ADOBE cs3, and will upgrade to CS4  soon.  i use primarily dreawweaver and i want to learn graphics and want to do tons of multitasking

Seems like you have very much overkill in certain areas and not enough in others. If you will be running Dreamweaver, you don't need a lot of RAM! If, on the other hand you will be using Photoshop, you need a lot of RAM. I've been using Photoshop since 1992 and the more RAM the better, up to about 6 GIGs, then it really doesn' make much of a difference. As for the Graphics cards, not sure why you need 2?? I use Photoshop professionally and have never needed 2. As for the RAM, the graphics cards have their own RAM built in and it should not rob from you system. I use a Quad processor HP running Vista 64 bit. Photoshop flys, as do my other programs. However, I will tell you, if you change to 64 bit, be prepared to upgrade most all of your software, and on top of that, a lot of software is not capitable with 64 bit at this time. I played Hell getting my system set up running 64 bit. If you are not going to be using Photoshop, which is RAM hungry, you do not need more that 4 gigs of RAM.

  • Only Three Questions !!!

    Hi Experts !!
I have three questions, please clarify.
    1) At OS level we have two SAP services that are running, first is the SAPOSCOL service and second is SAP<SID>_<Instance_no>
I know what SAPOSCOL do..but what is the role of this second service SAP<SID>_<Instance_no> ?
    2) During a client export using scc8, it is said that upto three transport requests can be generated depending on the copy profile selected for export. Now to start this export process we have to schedule a background job and the export process will start asynchronously.
Now my question is how will i know which transport requests are created for this export .....I mean where will i see these created requests and when ( means are these requests created as soon as the background job is scheduled or after the completion of the export process ) ?
    3) Suppose I have three application servers( one central and two dialog instance )for an R/3 system (say dev)
Now my question is how will I start or stop these servers....will SAP MMC will be present in all the three application servers and I need to log to each application server and start it OR only the central instance will have the SAP MMC and I can start or stop all the application servers from there ??
Thanks in advance. Points will surely be rewarded.
    Mandeep

    Hello Mandeep,
    Here are the answers
    1. SAP_SID_Instance Number service will help you in setting up auto start or manual start of SAP services when Windows comes up.
    2. Once you use SCC8 and start the client export you can start monitoring it using SCC3 once the export is completed it will show in SCC3 what all the requests generated. These three Import requests are generated in STMS. You can go and check in import overview for the same import request and start the import of them in respective clients and system.
    3. Hey Buddy each of these servers will have MMC on it.
Always you need to shutdown application servers first then CI. Then while starting Start CI then apps.
    Thanks & Regards
    Vivek

  • Upgraded to CS4 and video is VERY choppy.

I'll add some computer stats but honestly, I dont think they matter that much since the same system was running CS3 like a champ.
    Dual Core 2 (2.4ghz e6600), 8gig DDR2 ram, Raptor 10k OS drive, 5x 320gig data drives. Nvidia 8800gts card. Vista Prem. 64bit.
I shoot on a Sony EX1 and after upgrading to CS4 I noticed an EXTREMLY slow playback on the preview. No effects added, just dragging down and simple cuts. The audio typically goes smooth though.
Any initial thoughts? or can I provide any more details to help what may be going on?

I found a temp fix that worked for a system a friend asked me to look at.  It is not really a valid solution but it does seem to fix the problem at least until the root cause can be found.  If you set the priority of the ImporterProcessServer to above normal, it seemed to fix the problem (at least on the system I was working on).  To do this, open task manager, right click on the process and click Set Priority -> Above Normal.
Doing this isn't really recomended as it could take cycles from more important system processes or other critical processess.  In this case, he just sets the priority up when he needs it, then back down when he is done.
In case you are wondering, the specs of the system I was working on are:
    System:
    Core2Duo e8400
    Asus Maximus Formula Mobo
    8gb DDR 800
GeForce 8800GTS 640 (latest drivers from NVidia)
    1x750gb System drive
    1x1.5tb Video storage
    1x1.5tb Swap / Render drive
    Windows 7 64 Beta build 7048
    Windows Vista 64 (dual boot)
    Project:
Hockey game shot at 1080 60i + some shots at 720 60p.  Each were in their own sequence.
He did mention that he still couldn't view multiple video streams without it slowing down, but at least he was able to view the normal footage without delay. Also, I performed and tested the fix only on the Windows 7 system, so I am not sure about Vista but it should help there as well.  I look forward to hearing about a true fix.
    Good Luck

  • Upgraded to CS4 and now no FLV export plugin in Quicktime

When using CS3 Master Collection (on Mac 10.5.6) I could use Quicktime or Apple Compressor (uses QT) to export .mov files to .flv files. Then I upgraded to CS4 Master Collection and everything still worked. Then I got tired of having all the CS3 programs still on my computer so I used the CS3 disc to uninstall CS3. Later I noticed the Flash export within Quicktime was gone. So I put back CS3 install disc and just installed the Flash export components and then the .flv export was back on Quicktime. Though I solved the problem, shouldn't CS4 (upgrade) have that plugin as well? Did I do something wrong? Are other things going to be missing or go wrong since I uninstalled CS3? Let me know what you think. Thanks

Hi Todd, I bet you upgraded from a PPC machine.
The real problem here is that Flash 8 is/was not a universal binary (i.e. an app that is supported on both the PPC and the Intel Macs).
So the included "FLV Exporter" QuickTime component does not show up in the export dialog even if it's installed as it just does not get loaded.
    (Should be in "NameOfSystemHD/Library/QuickTime").
If you update to Flash 9/CS3 you get a universal binary app and QT exporter component and it will work again on your (Intel) Mac Pro.
Btw., the Flash support that was in QuickTime had nothing to do with export - especially not with FLV - but with playback of Flash content.
Addionally, AE 7 isn't a universal binary either, so you will suffer some pretty serious performance losses.
    Best regards, Oliver

  • If I upgrade to CS4 and later upgrade OS?

If I upgrade  to  CS4 with Windows XP, what happens when I upgrade OS to 64bit Vista (or its successor) or to a Mac?  Will I need to pay more?

  • I searched on "ev handl" and found three questions on the problem I am having. I didn't see an answer. I am using windows 7 with the latest firefox update. How do I get rid of the error message?

when opening windows in Fire Fox, I am getting a Java Script Application message. "Exc in ev handl: Type Error: oSAPlg.oRoot.log is not a function"
    I have Windows 7

Your message is a little bit different but very similar to other message and it includes "SA" in the message, so I'm suggesting...
Best solution appears to be to uninstall Site Advisor from system and then to reinstall again from www.siteadvisor.com as noted in https://community.mcafee.com/message/203466
Also refer to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions relating to McAfee Site Advisor 3.4.0 for more specific instructions.

  • CS4 and Windows VISTA

    Hi out there,
had CS3 installed on Windows VISTA and experienced numerous crashes. I am editing in HD (AVCHD and HDV). Was told that Windows XP is more stable. Upgraded to CS4 and at the same time installed XP. No longer any problems. I am moving to documentaries with longish video lengths. No I am told that XP only sees limited file sizes (3.5Gb ?) and VISTA would be the answer (also 64 bit). I don't want to go back to VISTA and experience the crashes again. Anyone experience with VISTA and CS4? Has the stability of VISTA in the meantime improved to the level of XP? Or has CS4 learned to handle VISTA? Advise appreciated. Helmuth

I am told that XP only sees limited file sizes (3.5Gb ?)
This is the amount of RAM that the OS sees, and is NOT the limit on file sizes. The only file size limitations will come from working with DV-AVI Type I files, or from using FAT-32 formatted HDD's. PrPro is built around using DV-AVI Type II files, which are not limited in file size.
As John points out, one can work with Projects of vastly larger sizes, than the amount of RAM.
For more info on setting up an NLE (Non Linear Editing) system, see Harm Millard's three great articles:

Almost everything you would want to know about setting up for NLE work will be in these.

  • Full version pshop CS (8), upgraded to CS4. Recieved the free upgrade to CS5... will this work?

    Hi,
Appologies if this seems like a stupid enquiry. I'll keep it quick and simple.
I had been running a full version of photoshop CS (aka photoshop version 8). I just bought the upgrade to CS4 and also (to answer other questions on this forum) I just received the free upgrade to CS5 from Adobe. Not having an intel Mac yet I plan to sit on my CS5 upgrade till I have the machine to run it. My question to anyone who knows/has done this, can I install my CS5 upgrade given that my original full copy of photoshop was version CS (ie. more than 3 versions back)...?
    I have seen this discussion:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2734196#2734196
but it still leaves me unsure (would Tai Lao be able to install CS5 if he wanted too I wonder...???).
Before anyone asks I have asked Adobe via the customer support portal and they said that I 'could install CS5 upgrade from CS4 upgrade' (which still doesn't answer the question, does my having CS stop me upgrading to CS5 due to the "3 version back upgrade policy"...?
    Thanks for the help!
    Matt

    Matt,
    Focus for a second please:
All Adobe upgrades are FULL INSTALLERS.  If the upgrade does not find a previous version installed, it will simply ask you for the old serial number as well.  That's all.
You now have a valid CS4 serial number.  When you install CS5, the installer will look for a previously installed version.  If you have installed CS4, it will proceed automatically to install CS5.  If you did not install CS4, just use its serial number when prompted. (NOTE:  This is based on the assumption that CS was indeed a qualifying version to upgrade to CS4.  I don't remember what the requirements were back then.)
I have Photoshop 7.0.1, 8 (CS), 9.0.2 (CS2), 10.1 (CS3) and 11.0.1 (CS4) installed on my machine.  All those are upgrades from my original full version 4 of Photoshop from many, many years ago.  I can run all of them on my machine, even simultaneously If I wanted to, by launching the older version(s) first.  In practice, I have run two versions simultaneously without any problems.
Just have your CS4 serial number handy.
Now, be advised that an awful lot of users are having nightmarish difficulties with the CS5 installer.  If you run into trouble, don't blame it on the serial number, just blame the extraordinarily incompetent members of the pathetic installer team.  That's a team outside of the Photoshop engineering team that has proven a disgraceful embarrassment to Adobe engineers and executives.  A senior program manager has even admitted in private correspondence that he can't write in public what he would like to do to the members of the installer team.
    Matt J Dawson wrote:
… (would Tai Lao be able to install CS5 if he wanted too I wonder...???).
Of course I could, if I wanted to and had an Intel machine.  However, I have rejected Leopard and Snow Leopard, and I will stay with CS4 and Tiger 10.0.4.11 for the foreseeable future, which means for the remainder of my life expectancy, as I can't afford a new machine.
    Matt J Dawson wrote:

Matt, the "3 version back upgrade policy" simply means that you have to have a valid serial number for one of the three versions, and you do have a valid number for CS4, which in turn was based on your valid number for CS.
    Stop tormenting yourself.

  • Get child nodes and only child nodes from a tree?

    Hi all,
    Relatively simple table
    create table replaced_parts
    old_part_number varchar(7),
    replaced_part_number varchar(7),
    updated_date date
    insert into Replaced_parts values('AAAAA/1', 'BBBBB/1', '2012-Feb-16');
    insert into Replaced_parts values('BBBBB/1', 'FFFFF/1', '2012-Feb-23');
    insert into Replaced_parts values('YYYYY/3', 'ZZZZZ/3', '2012-Mar-17');
    insert into Replaced_parts values('FFFFF/1', 'LLLLL/1', '2012-Mar-18');
insert into Replaced_parts values('LLLLL/1', 'HHHHH/1', '2012-Mar-19');The question is how do I issue a select using 'AAAAA/1' and get the result 'HHHHH/1'
    i.e. (A... -> B, B->F, F->L, L->H)
    and select using 'YYYYY/3' to get 'ZZZZZ/3' (Y... ->Z)?
It would be really nice if I could also get my original value, say, 'CCCCC/1' if there is no entry
for 'CCCCC/1' in the replaced_parts table (maybe NVL?).
I have googled and tried various combinations of CONNECT BY, PRIOR, ISLEAF... &c. but
am beating my head off a brick wall at the moment.
    TIA,
    Paul...

    >
Hi, Paul,Hi again Frank - couldn't sleep and am back at the "£$%^&* computer...
    Yeah - it's a pity they weren't correct - I'll make doubly sure in future - see
my edited post (with DROP TABLE commands inter alia - I also removed
Order_Parts.User_Number since it was redundant - all that's needed is
Order_Number (normalisation) so now your SQL doesn't work - sorry
    about that.
Just saying something "doesn't work" isn;t very helpful. What exactly is wrong with the SQL
statements I posted? Point out a couple of places where they are wrong, and explain how
you get the right results in those places.Nothing is wrong with your SQL - I meant *sorry* about the confusion in the DDL/DML from my end.
Now, I'm sorry again about the ambiguity of my English.
I'll reconstruct the original data that I gave you and re-run your SQL against that data - again,
    this is *totally* my fault.
My tables creation script seems to work fine now - I've edited my reponse to Solomon - the definitive scripts
are now there - with Order_Parts.User_Number gone and the TO_DATE(...) as
you suggested - the VARCHARs seemed to give the right result though - but I
agree that if there's a correct way of doing it, then it should be done that way.
Remember why you need to go to the trouble of posting CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements
for some sample data here. It's to allow the people who want to help you to re-create the prolem
and test their ideas. I know, and that's why I did it - the OR REPLACE that I added (stupidly and without thinking or testing) was
so that people wouldn't have to go to the trouble of dropping the tables - I have now added
DROP TABLE blah... to the beginning of the script so it won't be necessary.
I have over 600 posts on this forum and only 26 questions - most of my time
spent here is trying to help (to the best of my limited ability - I'm not a guru
like yourself) and learning - it's amazing the number of times problems that
I've seen here have subsequently arisen at work - and I am frequently
frustrated by some posters' inability to explain their problem or at least give test
    cases.
I can forgive bad English (except my own) - not everybody is a fluent speaker of the language,
but SQL should run no matter what language one speaks.
I appreciate that people are volunteering their time and effort here and I really do
try and make it as easy as possible for them when I ask questions - I messed up
this time, I'm afraid. It might also be the fact that I'm moving between SQL*Plus
and SQL Developer and a text editor that I got confused (plus, fatigue didn't help...)
In general, other people are not going to test anything on your system. I'm going to test
things on my system, Solomon will test things on his system, and other people will test things
on other systems. Well, if ever you're in Dublin ;). Again, I appreciate the effort that you, Solomon and sKr have
    gone to in helping me.
Your INSERT earlier statements did not work on my system, because you were using a VARCHAR2
in a place where a DATE was required. The correct thing to do is to use DATEs where DATEs are required. Indeed, and I agreed with you that if there's a right way of doing it, then it should be done that way.
If your NLS settings are such that this is not causing you any errors right now, it's still a good
idea for you to fix it; but, at any rate, whether it works on your system isn't what's important in
this case; you're posting it to run on other peoples' systems.Ahhh.... <the blinding light of a moment of epiphany descends on Paul> I didn't realise it was
an NLS setting - of course Americans will be different - it's just that I thought that YYYY-Mon-DD
worked everywhere (I tried to avoid the day-first/month-first pitfall ) but now that you've explained
it to me, I'll *never* make that mistake again.
Yes - my mistake - I've now corrected the error
Where are the desired results? Don't merely hide them in an old message; post them in a new message.OK. I'll put it in a reply to this post. I really am endeavouring to be as clear as possible - please
excuse my errors - I will do better in future. I'm also very annoyed at my own incompetence and at
having put you to more trouble than you would have had to go to if I had my wits about me.
    - should I keep Order_Parts.User_Number even
if it isn't conformant to normalisation rules?
If you have a good reason, it's okay to store de-normalized data. For example, some address tables in
the US contain both state and ZIP code, even though state is fucntionally depenedent on ZIP code. I think that in this case, denormalisation is not called for.
Re. the ZIP code thing, yeah, sure AIUI, the first two digits are dependent on the state, but the
last three? They're more or less random - at least in the sense that there's no way to type
in an address and calculate (mathematically, using a formula) them - so unless one were
to have weird SQL lookups to a "State" table for the first two digits and then take the final
three from a user-entered string field, then do a TO_CHAR on the returned 2-digit state number and add
this to the 3-character one - I can't see how the ZIP code is an example of this? But, maybe
(unless you wish to discuss that) we're getting side-tracked. Perhaps I'll ask this question
    on comp.databases.theory?
Oracle actually added a new feature in version 11 (virtual columns) to make de-normalizing easier.Hmmm... is adding virtual columns denormalisation per se? My favourite "cheap'n'cheerful"
db server (Firebird) has had a COMPUTED BY clause (same idea) for yonks (> 12yrs) - no data
is actually stored - rather it is calculated on the fly. Another one for comp.databases.theory
    perhaps?
BTW, wouldn't triggers remove all this hassle? It was my first idea, but trying to do it
purely through SQL is now *obsessing* me ;)
That would be another example of de-normalization. If the benefits of doing that outweigh the
costs, then go ahead. A trigger will take some effort to maintain, and it will make all DML slower, regardless
of how often that derived value is needed. Having the extra column will make some queries simpler and faster. Disk is cheap. Have an Original_Orders table (never changes) and a Revised_Orders table. When
a part replacement occurs - for orders that haven't been fulfilled (boolean flag?), change the
old part number to the new one. I can't imagine that replacement occurs very frequently, so
the expense of a trigger would IMHO be minimal - plus the down side of any trigger would
be mitigated by greatly simplifying the production of the Revised_Orders report?
    ... I'll experiment with what you've given me so far - but it's 23:40 here now, so I won't
get a chance to do it tonight - unfortunately, I *do* have to sleep.
If you haven't tested it yet, why did you start this message saying "your SQL doesn't work"?Sorry - what I meant was it obviously doesn't work when this eejit (i.e. me) has changed
the table structure - I did run it quickly (your 1st statement) against the (revised table
structure, the one you hadn't seen and I don't think even a man of your great SQL talents
can be expected to write working queries against unknown table structures :)).
Again, thanks for your help so far - I'll post the *_correct_* DDL and DML as a reply to this post
with the desired result. I'll also reconstitute the old (i.e. the one you worked against) tables
and data and let you know - again as a reply to this post - if I can at least learn something
from my fiasco, it won't have been a total waste of my time, and again, apologies for
    wasting yours.
    Thanks again and rgs.

  • Three questions about the developer tools

At my company we have evaluated this very handy tool, and we have only three questions...
    * Will the autocomplete feature be more intelligent. For example pl/sql developer recognize partially written table names and suggest a full name.
    * How to debug and step through the procedures?? This is a MUST!!!!
    * Is it possible to add source control integration (source safe) for the packages/procedures?
With these features, it will be super!!
    /henrik

When I was at the VSLive in San Francisco back in February, I spent some time at the Oracle booth and I asked for Source Control also.
I was told to my happy suprise that lots of other developers had been asking for that also but I was shocked when the Oracle reps told me that they didn't understand why people would want this feature or how they would use it. They tried to convince me that "Generate Create Script" was what I wanted.
Btw, "Generate Create Script" ticks me off. It always sticks the package owner in the create script and when I check it back in VSS I have to go in and edit it back out!!!
It seems to me that the mindset behind many Oracle tools is to work "on the database". I will admit that I don't use many Oracle tools. I used Procedure builder a few times but thats about it. To me it seemed pretty clunky, but it was nice to be able to debug a stored procedure. Or it was until you crashed the SP and it became locked in the database and un-updatable without a bounce ;)
Most developers that I know, prefer to work "on their hard-drives" and publish to the database or some variation on that.
I would love to see a tool for editing SPs and Packages where I could check out my code, make a change, compile it on the DB, and check my changes back into the source control. One more catch, we use VSS's ability to update the version number in a source code file on check-in so the version that ends up in the DB should have the "new" version number in the comment header.
Also, the "Auto Code Generation" tool is not geared towards the type of code I write. I thought we were supposed to get away from writing data access code in our forms? Yet, this tool throws all kinds of stuff in for doing just that and no tools to make it easier (that I could find) to create a data acces layer for wrapping my stored procedures and packages. Where are these tools, Oracle? Help us write better code, not worse.
The autocomplete is nice, but I have trouble with it. For example, if I type a table name and "." it will bring up all the columns in the table. If I type "R" it scrolls to the first column that starts with "R". But if I type "S" next, instead of scrolling to the first column that starts with "RS" it spits out the currently selected column and sticks an "S" on the end. Other times it doesn't work at all.
The "Query" window is next to useless. It should work more like a SQL Plus (DOS) window. Or at the very least more like a SQL Server Query Analyzer Query window. I'll keep my SQL Plus until this is way better.
Hopefully the next version (or 2 or 3) will be better. I hope Oracle is listening. They did acknowledge that other developers were asking for some of the same improvements.

  • If I upgrade to CS4, is the license for Elements still valid?

I'm hoping someone here has been there.  I've purchased an upgrade to CS4 and was wondering if anyone here could answer a couple questions.
    a) Is Elements a more home-oriented, unique product in its own right, or does CS4 render Elements completely pointless?
    b) Does the Elements license become invalid if you upgrade to CS4?
I'm not really an Elements user, I purchased E6 because I came across a CS4 upsell deal that made me pull the trigger. (been using GIMP) and can't find the E4 box that I never did get around to opening to install.  It's be nice to get into Elements though, to see just how much value is there with the app and the plugins all at work.

The painful part is I HAD the original CS 8.0 on the Mac.  LOL.  I had just forgotten it due to having an Intel Mac and kind of overlooking it.
(Turns out it runs pretty decent via Rosetta).  So yeah, I got CS4 Extended for $320.  Nice to finally own it.
I think I'll have fun using it now and then or maybe a lot if I use my camera enough.  So I guess now the question is, can I give away or sell 8.0.  LOL.
Since CS4 isn't tied to CS 8.0...you didn't use it for an upgrade...yes but you have to transfer ownership to give it away or sell it. (If you ever use CS4 to upgrade, CS4 and it's subsequent upgrades are all tied together as in you can't sell or give away any one portion...they are considered one item.)

  • Playback Problems since upgrading to CS4

    Hello,
We have a stand-alone video editing PC that was just recently upgraded to CS4 and since then its had problems with the realtime playback display. The playback is bad with mpeg and even worse on HD. Sometimes Premiere will completely freeze and have to be restarted. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

    Wayne,
Is there a typo in your I/O Sub-system data? You cannot have only one 80GB HDD, can you?
If so, you will want to upgrade the I/O sub-system to multiple HDD's (physical and not partitions), and allocate them for the tasks at hand. I am surprised that one can play HD material at all.
For a good article on HDD setup, follow this LINK.
    Good luck,
