Upgrade to CS4 when CS2 disks lost

I lost my CS2 disks, but Adobe Web Support said I could still purchase the CS4 upgrade instead of the full version because I have the CS2 serial numbers.  The problem is, I'm upgrading to a brand new computer.  In order for the CS4 upgrade software to work, doesn't the computer need to have the CS2 software installed on it?  Is there a way to get the CS2 software from my old computer to my new computer without disks, or am I forced to buy the full version for my new computer?

No, it doesn't need to be installed. The serial number should be fine for verification.
Did you register CS2? If so, and you have a problem, you can call Adobe for help with the installation.

  • Upgrade to CS4: from CS2 upgrade / Photoshop 3.0 Full

Ok, I've decided to go to CS4 from CS2 on my Intel Mac.  Yeah I bought CS2 unknowingly for my Intel Mac and have not been happy with the performance.
Are there any special install procedures for doing a fresh install of CS4 upgrade on Snow Leopard 10.6 (not that it really matters that it is 10.6 vs. 10.5), with CS2 Upgrade / Photoshop 3.0 Full?
If I remember correctly I had to call Adobe when I went from Photoshop 3.0 to CS2 with the Upgrade disc.
How might the install process go?

    Web logic should upgrade first

  • Upgrade to CS4 from CS2 - worth it?

    Hi,
Good afternoon, I wonder if anybody can advise me on the core difference between Creative Suite 2 (Premium) and upgrading to the CS4 version of the software. Is there signicant difference? I am now on Windows 7.
We are a small charity and use InDesign and Photoshop to produce our charity magazine, and Dreamweaver to design and maintain our website.  The upgrade is £606, and the new software on the charity license is the same price. This is an awful lot of money for us, so before upgrading I wanted to find out if the software is vastly improved or more or less the same.
I am finding a few problems with Dreamweaver 8 since I upgraded the PC to Windows 7, but the software is functional which is why I looked at upgrading, but the cost is putting us off.
Does anybody know if they offer an upgrade price for teachers/charities, they only list full software pricing on the website.
    Kind regards,
    Ashley

Yes, moving from CS2 to CS4 is a major step, especially since you're using an unsupported operating system. Each application has had many new features and enhancements added them.
You can check out my favorites for InDesign here: http://theindesignguy.com/cs4-thoughts.shtml
And those are just from CS3. Dreamweaver has CS4 has some terrific new features such as the code navigator, live view, live code.
As for pricing, you'll need to check locally. I believe Adobe has non-profit pricing and definitely offers steep discounts to students and teachers.

  • Upgrade to CS4 form CS2 Education edition?

Can I upgrade to Photoshop CS4 from my PHotoshop CS2 Education edition? Is there a Photoshop CS4 Upgrade Education edition that is not Extended?

    >Can I upgrade to Photoshop CS4 from my PHotoshop CS2 Education edition?
    yes.
    >Is there a Photoshop CS4 Upgrade Education edition that is not Extended?
there's no "upgrade education" edition. all edu editions are full versions (standard or extended). they're usually priced around the same or cheaper than a standard upgrade.

  • Free upgrade to CS4 from CS3.3?

    Hi,
I have Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium and am thinking about upgrading to CS4 when it comes out.
However I have noticed some sites advertising Free upgrade to CS4 if you purchase the upgrade to CS3.3. Is this free upgrade to CS4 valid if I upgrade from CS3 to CS3.3 now? As I read somewhere it is only valid if you are upgrading from an earlier version?
Or, if I upgraded from CS3 design premium to CS3.3 master collection, would that allow me to get the free upgrade to CS 4 Master Collection?
    Thanks,
    Nellie

    Dear Bob,
I have a difficulty to understand what you are writing.
First you write that the release of Acrobat 9 would be a red flag... I guess you mean that if Adobe extend a suite with additional software this means that another Suite is close? I understood it to be a intermediate release in order to keep customers happy until a new release was ready, but that period would be long and therefore the intermediate release was necessary. As of today I understand that you and Adobe have a better consensus in this matter.
Why did we not need CS3 for 17 months? Well if you read my posts you would have noticed that we have had Design Premium CS3 since release but things change in the world and with a new employee needing Master Collection to correspond to new prospect customer demand we had to purchase a new seat. However, to find out upon opening the box that CS4 is launched and that our new customer was going for that release, whereas we had paid full price for an obselete software, thereby loosing customer(not yet though, lets hope Adobe and we come to a agreement), unless we pay another 1k doesn't make us happy.
If we had got the info that CS4 was close we wouldn't have purchased CS3.3 since we then would have the possibilty to discuss the matter with our prospect customer and both could have waited for CS4 release. Meanwhile we could have handled shortterm stuff with our CS3 Design P.
How to handle this in the future. Well either we all users have to continue our search on internet and on forums to find out what the rumour is...
... or Adobe put progress reports on their official website about next release planned in x months. I write planned since I understand that writing software usually takes more time than planned, but at least it should not come to a situation where a release is launched earlier than the rumour in forums etc.
Any other suggestions to Adobe how to handle releases?

i upgraded to lion when it first came out but today i tried to open my photoshop cs2 and its telling me the powerpc applications are no longer supported is there any fix out there for this

Lion is Not compatible with PPC (Power PC) based software, such as your older version of PhotoShop.  Your choices are you can either upgrade to the newer version of PhotoShop, or you can backup your data and apps, erase your harddrive and reinstall Snow Leopard.
    Hope this helps

Why don't you talk to apple and find out if backup exists? That conversation with apple will stop your guessing.

  • Uninstall CS2 after upgrade to CS4 - is there a new walktrough

Just upgraded from CS2 Premium to CS4 Premium on Mac 0SX 10.5.6, but left CS2 on there as I wanted to copy over a few preset files etc from CS2 to CS4.
Now I want to remove CS2. I've got an old document link for removing CS2 but it mentions removing directories that I know CS4 has installed or shares (e.g. Adobe Utilities and Adobe Updater)
Is there a new walkthrough or utility to remove CS2 once you have upgraded to CS4?

    Buko
That's a bit too succinct and general....
In your apps folder will be a folder call 'Adobe Creative Suite 2'. Within this is an' uninstallers' folder which contains the file 'How to uninstall.pdf'. This file is reproduced (as far as I can tell) at http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=331301
This talks you through the various folders/files to remove.
BUT BEWARE - this was written before CS3/4 existed and as my post (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b82bde) points out, there will be some folders it suggests you remove, but that CS4 actually need (e.g. Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities folder).
I'm seeking a new 'How to Remove CS2 after installing CS4' document myself.
Have spoken to Adobe Tech support today and their suggestion was to "not remove any files/folders you think CS4 may need'.
How flaky is that for Technical Support - some people like to keep their hard drives lean.

  • EULA question--when I upgraded to CS4, do I still have 2 activations of CS3?

Just wondering what I upgraded to CS4, can I still use CS3 under the EULA?  I ask this because I have CS4 on my home computer and laptop.  I'd like to use CS3 at work using one of my two activations. By EULA, do I give up my activations of previous versions when I upgrade instead of buying a full version?
    Thanks

no. you have 2 activations. period. new versions superceed older versions. you can't legally install cs3 in order to get a "3rd (or 4th) actitivation" once you've installed cs4 as an upgrade to cs3.
you CAN continue to use 3 as a backup and while you get up to speed with cs4, but you're supposed to uninstall it when you become comfortable with the new software.
so what you're asking is technically possible, but it goes against the intent of the EULA.

  • Upgrading to CS4 on a new PC...still need CS2

According to Adobe customer service, upgrading to CS4 on one machine from CS2 that is installed on another isn't a problem....you just need to enter the CS2 serial number during installation. But I need to run both versions on the new machine (I'd prefer to manage my GoLive sites in GoLive, at least for a while). It appears that since my CS2 license was an upgrade from CS, the activation cannot be transferred??? The "Transfer activation" option is unavailable in the help menu and I supspect that is the cause. Is there any way to get CS2 activated on the new machine as well as CS4?
    Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have any problems with activating CS4 on the Vista machine no matter how many CS3 installations you have or where they are activated. The two programs suites are gong to be independent of each other once installed. The only thing you need your CS3 for during installation of CS4 is for proof of a qualifying product, which simply means you need to be able to show the installer either an installed product OR the original media, OR possibly even the serial number.
You may find it convenient to have CS3 installed and activated on the new box, but it isn't required. Just to be clear, activation is a separate issue from installation, and does not come into play until you try to launch an application. You can install on as many machines as you want, but after two have been activated you will not be able to run THAT VERSION on another machine until you deactivate somewhere else.

When I upgraded to 10.7.4 I lost the ability to use a lot of my previous software that was intel based. My Adobe suites for example. So for $29 i now have to spend $1000's to get these to work. What has changed with Mountian Lion. I am not rich?

The reason your applications do not work in Lion/Mountain Lion is that they were written for the older PowerPC CPU that all Macs used up to 2006.  When Apple made its transition to the Intel CPU, they licensed software that they included in all versions of OS X (from Tiger to Leopard and optionally, Snow Leopard) called Rosetta.
Rosetta miraculously allows PowerPC applications to work on the Intel processor transparently; you do not know it is even present.
The problem is that after 6 years of the transition, Apple's license to use the underlying software expired for OS X Lion and all version thereafter (and it is doubtful that the current owner of the software, IBM, would relicense it, even if Apple were inclined to do so).
So you do not have to accept recriminations from others for previously using Rosetta without even knowing it was present and running!
So for those of use that need to upgrade to Lion/Mountain Lion, I have offered the option to install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7:
    And now Mountain Lion:
If you are unable or unwilling to update your inventory of PowerPC software, this solution offers you an alternative for not more than the $29 cost of Snow Leopard and $79 cost of Parallels (cheaper via internet sources).
Full Snow Leopard installation instructions into Parallels 7 are here:
