Upgrade to CUCM/CUC 9.x from 8.x

When upgrading to CUCM 9.x from a version 8.x, the ELM service is installed.  Is there a way to perform the upgrade but not install the ELM services?  This can be very confusing to have ELM services on every product instance.

No, there's no way to not install.

  • Upgrade Order - CUCM, CUC, & CUP

Customer has a virtual CUCM, CUC & CUP environment running on 2 hosts in the same chassis.  CUC & CUP are misbehaving due to known CPU utilization bugs and will be upgraded to latest SU.  Question is what to upgrade first?  CUC is the most unstable, so upgrading it first was my initial thought, then CUP and CUCM last.  Is there any reason to change this order of updates?
    CUCM 8.6(2a)SU2     update to 8.6(2a)SU5
    CUC 8.6(2a)SU3        update to 8.6(2a)SU5
    CUP 8.6(5)                 update to 8.6(5)SU3
    I appreciate it,
    Beau

You can upgrade CUCM or CUC in either order based on the versions you provided.  CUP should be upgraded after CUCM has been upgraded.

  • Upgrade cucm,cuc,im&presence from 8.6 to 10.5

    hi guys
i need assistance to understand the precise steps with the upgrade here.
i read a lot about the ova changes, nic changes and more, but i m not sure about many steps here .
is there anyone who upgrade successfully that can things sorted?

If they are already on the VMs then it is much easier:
    1. Get the refresh Cop file installed on all the servers (publisher first and then the remaining servers)
    2. Once you have done the Refresh upgrade, then very carefully read the exact version number, as you can do a direct upgrade to version 10.5 from 8.6, however you must be able to match the exact release number which CSCO allows to do a direct upgrade to 10.5, else you may encounter "this upgrade is not allowed" and then you will have to upgrade to 9.x and then 10.0 and then 10.5,  Hence it will save a lot of time,
    3. Once the upgrade has been completed, on the CCM Pub, enable the PLM for the license management.
Just so that you know, once it is 10.x, the licensing system becomes a lot more different than 8.x, hence I will recommend that you keep all the PAKs handy BEFORE you attempt the upgrade.
Once it has been upgraded, using the PLM you can generate a lic request and get the Lic directly to the servers or you can generate a lic Request file and get the Lic from TAC's help.
    4. In 10.x the system wants every user phone to be assigned with an "Owner ID" , so I will highly recommend that you take care of that aspect (by BAT) during the upgrade or right after it, else it will back to haunt you.
    All the best!

  • License questions regarding CUCM/CUC upgrade from 9.1.2 to 10.5.2

    Hi All,
I am set to upgrade CUCM/CUC cluster and have read the upgrade guides multiple times, just need some input from folks who've actuall done and survived the ordeal.
I have already installed a stand-alone PLM 10.5 and just need an idea what to expect with license migration once the CUCM/CUC has hurdled through the upgrade.
After CUCM/CUC has upgraded to 10.5, can I run the migrate license utility via e-fulfillment and UC instance license will automatically/electronically update its license. And if so, how long does this process take.
Or do I need to send a request to cisco licensing support via the generated request form from migrate licenses tool. Also how long does this process take.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
are u using standalone or co-resident ELM.Just refer the link
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/plm/10_5_1/releasenotes/CUCM_BK_P64D2D8C_00_plm-rn-1051/CUCM_BK_P64D2D8C_00_plm-rn-1051_chapter_00.html
For a standalone Enterprise License Manager deployment, use the Prime License Manager ISO:
To upgrade to Cisco Prime License Manager Release 10.5(1), use the following ISO file: CiscoPrimeLM_64bitLnx_10.5.1.XXXXX-XX.sgn.iso.
Where: X represents the specific branch and build number.
For a co-resident Enterprise License Manager deployment, Enterprise License Manager is upgraded to Cisco Prime License Manager along with your Unified Communications product upgrade.
You can upgrade a standalone Enterprise License Manager Release 9.1(2) deployment to a standalone Cisco Prime License Manager Release 10.x deployment.
For co-resident deployments, you can upgrade Enterprise License Manager Release 9.1 to Cisco Prime License Manager Release 10.x with Release 10.x of a Unified Communications application (Cisco Unity Connection or Cisco Unified Communications Manager) upgrade.

  • Does Migration Licenses Include Upgrade of CUCM, UCCX, IMP, CUC?

    Hi,
Does migration licenses include the upgrade of CUCM, UCCX, IMP and CUC from BE6K? The customer said that they currently have expired UCSS, but they purchased migrations licenses to v10.5. They purchased these items below. They are running v8.6 CUCM and UCCX 8.5.
    MIG-CUCM-USR-B
Migration to UC Manager Enhanced - 1K - 10K Users
    UCSS-U-UCM-B-1-1
UC Manager UCSS - 1 ENH User One Year Sub Tier B
    CON-ESW-MIGCUC03
ESSENTIAL SW Migration to UC Manager Enhanced
    MIG-CUCM-BASIC-B
Migration to UC Manager Basic - 1K - 10K Users
    UCSS-UUCMBAS-B-1-1
UC Manager UCSS - 1 Basic User One Year Sub Tier B
    CON-ESW-MIGCUCM0
ESSENTIAL SW Migration to UC Manager Basic

    John
You don't need to pay any money for any major CUCM upgrade as long as you have active UCSS on it.  If as part of the migration to version 8.6 you purchased UCSS you are covered, otherwise you will need to pay for every major upgrade.
If you did buy UCSS then you can simply request the upgrade vie the PUT upgrade portal.

  • Upgrade of cucm

    Hi everybody,
I would like to upgrade my current cucm 7.1.5 to be6k 9.1.2 on new servers. First of all is it a recommended upgrade path using jump upgrade? On is it much safer to start a new clean installation?
If i choose the jump upgrade i would like the license from my old cluster that will be converted to cuwl to be valid on the old cluster as long as i need to build configure the new cluster + the cuc. In term of software what i will need bootable cds etc ? Which is the safest path that you recommend?

    Hello Michalis,
As mentioned up here, you have two ways to do this upgrade. For me i tried both of them but from 7.1 to 8.6
    MCS to UCS.
    - you will need a fresh installation on UCS for 9.1.2 (with the same IP, Hostname, GW, NTP....etc of the running 7.1 cucm)
    a) Using BAT:
       * export your data from 7.1
       * Open these data again with BAT for 9.1
       * Restore your new BAT files to the fresh installed 9.1
       * Get the Lic MAC then make a licenese rehost by Cisco Licenses.
    b)Upgrade Files:
*I think you won't find a direct upgrade file from 7.1 to 9.1
*You will nees a temp server as transite ( let's call it server X) with the same IP, Host name, GW, NTP...etc
      * Install the same version 7.1 on the X server
      * Take a backup from the running server, then restore it to the X server
      * Upgrade to 8.5
      * Upgrade to 8.6 ( you will need a COP file forsure)
      * Then you can Jump to 9.1
      * Now Backup this transite server and restor on the fresh installed 9.1 on UCS
      * Licenses rehost is needed now.
    - You can make a test lap first before going to the cut off process. get some ip phones and check if they will work corectlly with the new 9.1
    - Cut off stage will be done and replace 7.1 with 9.1
    - no worries with VM, i already did that.
good luck, and plese let me know the updates.
    Regards,
    Mohamed Helmy

  • Upgrade on CUCM Hangs ona certain spot in post install

I have been working on upgrading the CUCM servers to this version 7.1.5.35112-2   from 7.1.5.34900-7
I was able to do this on the publisher with out a reboot and a switch version. So I am stable right now. Every time I try to do the install on the subscribers it hangs on this part
    Calling sftp with arguments sftpuser@nix225
    spawn sftp sftpuser@nix225
    Connecting to nix225...
    sftp> sftp> lcd /common/download
    sftp> get /common/ontape_backup.gz
    Fetching /common/ontape_backup.gz to ontape_backup.gz
Couldn't open local file "ontape_backup.gz" for writing: Permission denied
Looks like it is trying to write a file on the publisher nix225 not sure why it is doing this or if it is normal. Either way it is not able to pull and write to it.
Any ideas of what to look at with this?
I have attached the capture log as well.

    Hi David,
You can have a look at this thread https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2107390 and see if this works. This thread is based on version 8.x
There is another error in logs "INFORMIXSERVER does not match either DBSERVERNAME or DBSERVERALIASES" hope all the hostnames exactly same passwords are also same

The only observations are that the backup drive is deemed too small and the quite long list of diagnostic reports dated between  Jan 18, 2015 (which I believe is the day I upgraded to Yosemite) & today the latest Yosemite update was installed on Jan 28, 2015
Any further assistance will be appreciated

  • Caught in a conundrum while trying to upgrade a Mac Mini (mid 2010) from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion

    Hi gang,
I am in a very frustrating position as I try to upgrade my Mac Mini (mid 2010) from OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to whatever the latest version of Mountain lion is. The reason I am doing this is because the original hard drive died and the Mini sat there for 6 months before we decided to get a new hard drive and revive it.
I installed a new 500GB 7200rpm SATA drive and the problems began.
First I couldn't get Mountain Lion installed as a fresh OS installation (using both a USB drive and a DVD to no avail). It just wouldn't go. The grey Apple logo/loading screen would come up and just sit there doing nothing while the loading icon spun.
I then tried installing Snow Leopard (the OS that the Mini came with when it was new). After some messing around, that got done.
However, a peculiar thing happens when the Mini boots. Everything loads up into Snow Leopard, but although the mouse curser moves, I cannot click on anything or use the keyboard for 4-5 minutes. Then it just work (I am typing this on the Mini). This happens every time.
Now, when I updated to 10.6.8, I was able to load up the App Store and download the Mountain Lion install app. I clicked it and went through the initial copying of files and then the restart, but after the reboot, the grey loading screen would not progress. I rebooted again and held down the Option key to check out the available boot volumes, and all I saw was the installation DVD I had in there for Snow Leopard and a hard disk volume called "Mac OS X Installer."
So I booted into the Snow Leopard install DVD and opened Disk Utility to check things out. I did a verify disk and a permissions repair. Interestingly, the first repair I did gave me the message that the ACL was missing from Volumes and that is was fixed. I read something somewhere which talked about the Access Control List and mouse/keyboard issues. But who knows. When I boot back into the Mini as normal I am returned to the fully-functioning Snow Leopard installation, like nothing happened.
And now here is the kicker: it appears that the Firewire bus is hooped. In the Profiler, when I view the FireWire settings I get the message, "Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices." So I am pretty sure the one thing I cannot do is boot the Mini into target disk mode attached to my Mac Pro and installed Mountain Lion that way.
So to recap: I can't finish the Mountain Lion installation because the install won't continue after rebooting because there is something wrong with the underlying base system, which might be hardware (FW bus) related. I think.
    Some things I have tried:
    Resetting the SMC
    Resetting the PRAM
    Reparing permissions
Booting into Safe Mode (doesn't work)
Booting into Verbose Mode to observe what happens (I get the "Can't load the Bootcache.playlist" error, which I suspect is related to the screwed up FW bus)
Trying to boot using Internet Recovery (doesn't work)
Booting into Single User Mode and attempting the "fsck -y" etc. sequence to try and repair the ACL that way
    So I am stuck.
I guess the question is, should I get an external HD enclosure and install Mountain Lion onto the hard drive that way and hope it works when I put it back into the Mini?
Any other ideas? I have spent a couple days ******* around with this is am running out of ideas...
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • Is it possible to upgrade ATI radeon HD 2400 XT from 128MB to 512MB?

Hi, I just bought "Tom Clancy's Splinter cell: Conviction" and it doesn't work on my iMac.
Of course I should have checked in depth the details of the requierments because now it appears that my graphic card doesn't support the game.
(I didn't think it would be a problem since I play "COD Warfare" with no lagging or any bug at all)
    I have an iMac 20" - Mid 2007.
Hence my question stated in the title "Is it possible to upgrade ATI radeon HD 2400 XT from 128MB to 512MB?"...
I should add in case of a positive answer: "and how?..."
    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you both!
I guess that is pretty much answering my question!...
Next time I buy a game I'll make sure I read THOUROUGHLY the requierments...
    So I don't waste $25.99 for nothing!...
When is someone going to come with an app that tells you right away if you computer support it or not???
    Apple??? The competition??? Who???

You can create an install disc but you would have to download Mountain Lion to do so..

Do you have iTunes match? You need a computer to manage an iTunes match library.

will i have any problem like compatibility??
    thank you.

A Mid 2010 MacBook Pro supports 16 GB of memory without any problem. Macs are "special" about memory because some brands work without any problem and others don't work. That's why I recommend you to buy the memory from OWC or Crucial in order to make sure that you get compatible memory > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3
