Upgrade to Droid 2

Hello to All,
My question is how do I get $100 instant rebate for the Droid 2 as opposed to the Mail in  Rebate. I called CS and I was informed I was eligible for the Early Upgrade for this phone.  My discount date is 11/2010.
Thanks

To avoid the mail-in-rebate, you can upgrade your device through your My Verizon account online and get instant savings. Once you are logged into your My Verizon account, click the link to upgrade your device and if you are eligible to upgrade you will see instant discounts.
Hope this helps!

i was told that if you are in a contract you have to have your current cell phone at least 6 months before you can upgrade to a smartphone.  does anyone know if this is true?

Great One, I was able to get a Droid through a program called, I think, CPO, or COP, which allowed me to buy a refurbished Moto Droid for $289.00 instead of the $559.00 that I was fully prepared to pay to get out of that friggin' Samsung Omnia II that was tasking me to no end (loved the phone, HATE Winmobile 6.5). I was only 6 months into the contract. This MIGHT be an option for the OP. I walked into the local Verizon store with $600.00 in my pocket and a long, sad look on my face, .and the rep that I always deal with (hi, Larry!) looked into this COP program.  It appeared that this program  was about to end or they were almost out of the phones, so I don't know if it will be an option. I paid the $289.00 for the phone and it was shipped to me overnight. I consider myself VERY fortunate to have found this deal. The refurbed Droid looks brand-new and came with 2.1 software and a home charger.
A very long shot, indeed, but hey, I have a Droid now. There's no place like home, ...

$289 is not bad compared to $559! You saved money. Refurbished phones can be like new. Sometimes it depends. I have seen complaints of where people have received refurbished device & then have problems still. Consider yourself lucky & I am glad your phone is working for you.
No place like home, eh?  Dorthy....oh Dorthy.

  • Can I upgrade a DROID Razr Maxx to KitKat.  Tried running updates and it says I'm fully up to date with s/w version 4.1.2 (Jellybean)

I'm running a two year old Droid Razr Maxx with Android v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean).  I'd like to be able to take advantage of some of the new fitness devices out there, but they all require minimum v4.4 (KitKat).  Can I upgrade my phone to the new version, or am I stuck replacing this two year old phone with a new one?  If I can upgrade, anybody know how to make the phone do it?  When I run the normal update routine it comes back saying everything is up to date.

So is it maxed out, then, and can't be upgraded to KitKat? Or is there a way I can force it up to KitKat.  Sort of like loading Windows 8 on a machine that was delivered with Windows XP.  Reason I want KitKat is Jellybean won't support some of the peripherals I'd like to use.  Is it hardware limited so it can't support Bluetooth Smart, for example?

  • Upgrade from Droid to Droid Incredible

Does anyone who has upgraded have issues with the battery life and do you regret upgrading from Motorola Droid to Droid Incredible?

everyone with the incredible has been disappointed with the battery life. i ordered a set on ebay that came with 2 extra batteries and an external charger (for $12 total). i have to change the battery every morning...but at least the phone never has to be plugged in now. there's also an extended battery selling online somewhere. it's slightly thicker than the one that's in the phone so it comes with a new back casing, which is a problem if you use a hard cover/case for the phone. it's only 1 mm thicker though, so it prolly wouldn't prevent the soft/rubber type of cases.
some did go out with bad batteries though. fyi....i get about 24 hours of up time with about 4 of those hours being awake time, before needing to rotate my battery. if you are getting significantly less than that, then i would ask vzn for a new battery.

  • Upgrade to Droid

Hi new here trying to find out what the options are. I have 2 BB's on a family plan. 8 month's left on 2 year. Just want to upgrade one to a Droid. The friendly person at the store said not eligable for promotions but I could add another phone? I could just buy a Droid for $539.00 and it would renew my 2yr? can I just add the droid for about $200.00 then remove one of the BB's without early term fee's?

As the account owner If you use the early upgrade option, your BB's would be replaced with the Droid and the contract extended two years from the date you set the new phone up. No ETF involved.
The other BB would still be under contract for the remaining months on that phones contract. I believe you said 8 months?

  • Droid RazR keeps freezing after ICS upgrade

After the ICS upgrade my Droid RazR keeps freezing & I have to reset it by holding down the on-off & volume down buttons...I did a factory reset as well which seemed to help but it still sporadically freezes up especially when texting...Is anyone else having this issue & know of a solution..? My battery drains a lot faster now too I've noticed.

In another discussion thread, regor3 did the FR but did not allow the reset to restore the apps. Instead they reinstalled the apps one at a time on their own and things improved dramatically. There are apparently some old GB apps that don't play well with ICS.

  • No battery life after system upgrade

I've searched this forum and found a few notes about significant battery problems after Android upgrades. Immediately after upgrading my Droid X, my battery life went from more than 24 hours to about 4 hours. The battery is very hot and takes about 6 hours to charge. Clearly something is draining the battery. The Verizon tech folks declared it a faulty battery and are sending a new one. I am certain that's not the problem, especially since others have reported the same issue.
So I hoped to wipe the cache before having to do a factory reset -- it was suggested as a possible solution. I have found some instructions for wiping the cache, but I can't seem to get the instructions to work. I power off my Droid, then hold the home key. Nothing happens. So I can't get to the menu that gives the options mentioned. Can anyone help? I loved my Droid until this update... I really need my phone to work as I am self-employed. I am my own IT department!

    Hi dazzie,
I understand your discontent; I would be frustrated if my phone's battery drained for no apparent reason. Please run your phone in Safe Mode as recommended by Cody21 (thank you!). Safe Mode temporarily disables all applications that have been installed via the Android Market. Performing this troubleshooting step is necessary to determine whether a 3rd party application is the cause of an Operating System / Application issue.
I have checked my resources and I learned that similar battery issues have occurred with other devices upon a software upgrade due to third party applications that are not fully compatible with the upgrade Operating System and a Factory Reset has resolved most post upgrade issues. Please do a Factory Reset as this may resolve your concerns.
Please keep in mind that performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.

  • Verizon POORLY MANAGES Upgrade Process

For the 2nd time upgrading, I have been given false, misleading information about the plan options and their impact on my bill. After hearing plan details and asking the store rep for the impact to going to the new plan I was told my bill would be $20 LESS. The next day I awaken to find my corporate enterprise email inbox empty and idle. I call Verizon expecting the enterprise email option was simply erroneously disabled during the uprgrade. However, this is where the POORLY MANAGED process and employees became evident.
I was informed an enterprise account was an additional $15/month. The store rep did not inform me of this, even after asking for the impact to my bill. When I informed the tech support rep that her information is different than the store's information, she offered that I could revert to my original plan. I declined as even after the $15 surprise charge I would still be $5 cheaper than my previous bill. But I asked anyway, "How much will my new bill be?" I was told $270 (and change). I thought that sounded high so I asked her to pull up my previous bill and compare. She did and said my new bill would be FIFTY DOLLARS HIGHER!.
Again, I expressed frustration and again was offered the option to revert back. I said YES and be sure to consider impact of a new 4G phone on the account. She assured me the new 4G phone would have no impact. After all, that was reason for this difficulty.
I apologized to the support rep for my tone. I sympathized that her company has severe problems with the MANAGEMENT of policies and procedures of the upgrade and the education of the store reps. I went on to say it is unfortunate that Verizon management puts her in this position to hear these customer frustrations.
She asked if there was anything else. I said yes. Please waive the $30 upgrade fee since it was paying for this POORLY MANAGED upgrade service. She said it is non-refundable. I asked to speak to a manager. She assured me the call was recorded and would be heard by decision-makers. I'll wait and see, but won't hold my breath.
Recommendation: Ask for the new bill amount IN WRITING. Or take the time to call Verizon customer support to have them quote you a new bill. I am assured the call is recorded. Document everything you are told by the store rep. Remember, the 14 day revert clause is due to LAZY MANAGEMENT and is a convenience to them. The time it take me to manage around Verizon's MISMANAGEMENT is NOT a convenience.
I have been a Verizon-Alltell-Midwest Communications customer since the 90's. I will be considering a different carrier for phones as they expire. I will give Verizon 14 DAYS to make this right by waiving my $30 upgrade fee.

Couldn't agree with you more... here's what just happened to me ...
    Ok,
So I just took the plunge to upgrade my Droid Pro to the GS3.  You couldn't make the **** up I just went through with the girl at the counter.  It was kinda funny.  I'm ****** I didn't video tape it.
Ok, first off lets start with what was par for the course.
$250.00 for 32gig with a new two year contract.
    $30 credit available
    $30 upgrade fee.
    and
You are currently grandfathered into the unlimited data plan, however we killed your grandfather sooooo you probably should buy the 4-gig data plan considering the amount of data YouTube / Pandora etc. use up when not connected to WiFi.
BUT WE KNOW A WAY AROUND US GOING BACK ON OUR WORD ON THE UNLIMITED DATA PROMISE THAT WE HAD CROSSY'S ON!!!!!
    Here's what we do....
Option #1 - Pay retail for the phone and you can keep your unlimited data plan.  ($599.00 retail).  vs an extra $30.00 a month for the next two years for the 4-gig data plan so I don't go over streaming re-run's of TGIF while not connected to WiFi. ($30 x 24 months = $720.00) ...(Family Matters, Step by Step, Boy Meets World ...ummmmm lol)
(This really happened all while a street cleaner sweeper was going by so the girl had to scream this to me)
Option #2 - What we do is we open up a second line.  The first line we connect to an out of date phone which requires no data.  This is an extra $10 a month.  So if you say your paying $105.00 a month all-in right now with your Droid-Pro you will now only be paying $115.00 and we put the Galaxy S-3 on the second line and you get to keep your unlimited data plan.  This way you can have an emergency phone on line #1 which will ...other in case of an emergency never be used etc etc etc....
I says...not a chance you pitch this option to a mom or dad and he agrees to that.  Must be the 18 to 22 year old sales pitch. lol.
SOOOO there obviously is some chatter on the forums since the cut off date at the end of June for the unlimited data plans....scam....not a scam....scam....not a scam.  Grandfather only means this / Grandfather only means that ....
Its just kind of disappointing.  Like make it one way or another.  Gray area just makes it shady.  Also, would be nice to see a carrier honor their word.  Huge for PR considering the way word spreads via Social Media these days but these Mobile giants continue to not give >Profanity deleted<
Last effort....I'm going to call Verizon to complain and see where that gets me.  Will come back to give an update however I think we all know where this one is going . . .  (lolz).
    UPDATE:
Yup...just Verizon flexing there muscles.  If you want to keep an unlimited data plan and not have a heart attack streaming Pandora or the YouTubes not connected to the WiFi then pay retail....if not then have fun with AT&T or T-Mobez.
    Amen.

  • Upgrade wife's phone as a Christmas gift

    Hi,
My wife and I have separate VZW accounts, and her account is eligible for the "new every two" discount. I would like to purchase her an upgrade to Droid X as a Christmas gift, and then have her be able ot switch over to her new phone after unwrapping it on Christmas morning. Is there a way I can do this using her "new every two" discount? Or do we need to have a combined account in order for me to do this? I did want to combine our accounts at some point, but I'm afraid if I try to do it between now and Christmas it would make it would tip her off as to what my gift plan is.

Unless you are an authorized manager on her account, you won't be able to buy the phone as an upgrade on her account....unless you get a very cooperative rep. My kids were able to surprise me with an upgrade - but only because one of the store reps was a personal friend and the kids brought me to the store to sign the paperwork for my "gift"!
How about putting a picture of the phone in a card - or making a special trip to the store (pre-arranged with the store ahead of time) -

  • No Edge opportunity on transferred upgrade?

I've been with Verizon since they were PacTel Cellular in the late 80s and then through the Airtouch years.  We're talking about 20+ years of dedication to a company that I've spent around $350 per month with for eight devices and purchase over a thousand dollars worth of equipment from each year for a few years.  I've always been much happier with them then my friends on other carriers.  But those days are apparently ending and Verizon could care less about me being a faithful customer.
A few months ago my son's phone was having issues.  That device didn't yet qualify for a discounted upgrade but my phone did qualify.  The salesperson at the Verizon store said the upgrade could be traded and then on what would have been his upgrade date I could upgrade with all the benefits and options as usual.  Well, that was a LIE.
I went in to my local Verizon company store this afternoon to upgrade my Droid BIONIC to a Droid MAXX.  I fully intended to pay the 2-year contract price.  However the salesperson opened his big mouth and said they had the Edge program but I wouldn't qualify.  When I asked why he said because it was a transferred upgrade.  When I explained the situation as to why the transfer originally took place, and that the first salesperson said there were no penalties or lack of options for doing the swap, he said it didn't matter... "no Edge for you."
Like I said I was more interested in doing another 2-year contract because it's a better deal for someone who really doesn't want to upgrade their phone that often.  The Edge upgrade really didn't interest me.  But when a company starts lying to me and has no interest in trying to make amends for it to a faithful customer for over two decades I think US Cellular's slogan of "Hello Better" may be more right than they think and more appealing to me.
Needless to say I didn't upgrade to the MAXX.  Instead I'm reviewing contract end dates on my eight Verizon devices.  I really hated to see this day come.

I think that salesperson who stated you couldn't upgrade with the Edge Program had no idea what they were talking about.
IF you had wanted the Edge Plan, you could have simply upgraded your son's line without transferrring the upgrade and THEN moved the phone AFTER the upgrade. Although I am unsure why you wouldn't have been eligible for the Edge Plan with the transferred upgrade, you COULD have in fact used the Edge Plan in the method I have described.
Additionally, I don't think the salesman from "a few months ago" lied to you, either.
The Edge program is ONLY a little over a month old. The details of the Edge program were NOT available until the very last moment. Thinking the salesman had information which led him to believe what he conveyed to you was NOT the truth is not very likely. I think that salesperson most likely thought what you were told was indeed truthful, and therefore NOT a "LIE".
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

  • Droid 3 email accounts

Hi, I just upgraded from Droid 1 to Droid 3. The way email accounts work on D3 is different. On D1, if an email was retrieved by an another external client and deleted from the email server, that email was automatically deleted from D1 on next sync. That worked well for me, since I prefer to control emails from my PC. On D3 the emails stay on the phone, even if they are gone from the email server, and I could not find any settings to change that.
Also, on my secondary gmail account that I set up on D3, some emails seem to be pulled AND DELETED from the server by D3 and some are not deleted. Again, could not find a setting to change this.
If anyone can point me to where I can get info on how the email accounts are supposed to work on D3, I would appreciate it.
Additional info: I have 2 secondary email accounts. One ATT and one gmail, both using POP3

Gave up on trying to make Moto/Blur email stuff work. You can't change any aspect of how email is fetched and handled. It's so bad, it's ridiculous. Thank god for K-9 Mail. As described on Android Market, best email client for Android. You can customize EVERYTHING. I'm email-happy now

  • Droid razr vs. S3

I have a droid razr and i dont like it that much after I've seen my buddies S3. so is samsung a better buy then any of the new droids?

I had a Droid RAZR Maxx which when I first purchased and upgraded from Droid X I liked very much but after the SIII came out I started reading about it and then I went into the VZW store and played with the SIII some and I talked with the rep and ordered one with the 32gb paid full price for it and I have not been happier with a smart phone.  Mine had ICS on it when I bought it and it has been upgraded to jellybean 4.12 which is an ok system but I am hoping it will be updated again soon to jellybean 4.2 before they update it with to the new touchwiz which Samsung has said they were going to do.
    Enhanced Samsung TouchWiz features:
Camera enhancements including: live camera and camcorder filters, pause/resume video while recording, and Low Light photo mode

  • Using Droid X as mobile hotspot

I recently upgraded to Droid X.  I am interested in using my Droid X as a mobile hot spot for my laptop.  Can anyone point me to instructions on how to make this happen?

You will need both the APP & to subscribe for the HotSpot feature - $20/mo.
Here are some links that might help.  (This first one is for the Thunderbolt but should apply to the DROID X as well.)

  • I am already paying for data so why is there a charge for tethering?

I would really like to upgrade my Droid to a Droid 4 and use the WiFi hot spot feature. I have not done so yet because Verizon wants to charge me to use this feature of the phone. This appears to be illegal and I cannot understand and justify paying a monthly fee for something I am already paying for. I have seen a few posts on other websites trying to explain why Verizon or any other provider can charge for enabling a feature and not providing any additional service to the consumer however they are all very flawed attempts. I just want a VERY VERY VERY good reason why this is legal and justifiable. Please give me a convincing argument as to why anyone can charge twice for the same thing.
Tethering does not increase the data capacity of the phone. Tethering allows the phone to act as a bridge (modem) between a device to the network.
    Q: Does Bandwidth increase?
A: No, if the bandwidth to your phone is 8 Mbps, enabling tethering does not change the bandwidth therefore if a YouTube video is running on the phone and three other devices tethered to the phone they will be sharing the 8 Mbps bandwidth. This means that each device would only be able to use 2 Mbps of bandwidth under heavy usage. (You will not actually get an even split for several reasons and all combined will be less than 8 Mbps but that is due to overhead and OS limitations.)
Q: Am I allowed to use more data now that I am paying more?
A: No, if your data plan is for 2 GB per month, you will be charged extra for using more than 2 GB in one month. This includes the data usage of the phone and other devices while they are tethered to your phone.
Q: Is there any reason to charge for tethering?
A: (My opinion but I would like to be proven wrong.) The only possible justifiable reason may be for those who have unlimited data plans. Verizon and other providers must provide a level of service that customers will be pleased with. I could be wrong but it would be difficult for someone to use too much data on their phone alone. (I know there are exceptional cases but this is true for the majority.) Verizon and other providers plan the network based on an average (i.e. 1 GB per month) usage for each phone with data. It is much easier and more likely users would consume more data if a device such as a laptop is tethered to the phone therefore users with unlimited plans would cost the provider more money to increase the bandwidth of the backbone. (Limited plans will be charged more but unlimited data customers are not as there is no limit, which is a problem.)
IMHO: The right thing for Verizon and other providers to do is to stop requesting that phones be shipped which require a provision from the provider so they can charge for the feature. There is legal precedent that it is illegal for a provider of a service to charge a customer for additional devices using their services if the provider is not providing additional service.
In order for Verizon and other providers to address issues with network capacity and unlimited data subscribers there are a few options available. One is to provide an incentive for those users to switch from unlimited to limited data plans or provide a credit for a device upgrade, etc. An other option is to keep things as they are with phone provisioning but provide tethering to limited data users for no additional charge and to charge users with unlimited plans for tethering. (BTW: I think is the best option.)
FYI: I do have an unlimited data plan and would be willing to switch to limited data if tethering were included and the prices were the same. Right now there is no incentive for me to switch to a different data plan especially if I need to pay for tethering in addition to limited data. I currently have an iPad with AT&T service which is an additional fee I am paying but if I drop the AT&T plan, upgrade my phone, and add tethering, I would be paying more and getting less so why should I? (The less is that my iPad would not get email updates, etc. except when I turn the WiFi hot spot on, which I understand runs down the battery so you do not want it on 24x7. Oh, another reason Verizon and others should not charge for tethering as tethering is not available 24x7)
Please I would like some straight honest answers to why it is legal for Verizon and others to charge for tethering and why I should pay for it.

I want clarify what I am asking for as I fear that many people may be thinking what Wildman stated which is not true. I think it is presumptuous for Wildman to think that I am not sincere and that I will not award points for a correct answer. The closest one to come to a correct answer thus far is jimfitzgerald however I need to see the policy or something in writing that explains what jimfitzgerald stated.
To help clarify what I am looking for, I will respond to some earlier posts as I think it may help.
BTW: I think it is premature to ask that points be awarded but I will put a deadline and a default to this discussion. If I don't see a good answer to this post by next weekend, I plan to award the points to Wildman as the points seem to be of importance. I am actually hoping that a good answer is provided so that it will help anyone else who is in the same situation as myself. I think there must be a good answer as I would hope that carriers would not charge for this feature if they are really not providing an additional service. I also would hope that customers are not gullible enough to pay for something twice which on the surface this appears to be. This does seem to come up enough that the carriers should do a better job explaining what they are providing.

Quote: "Also, the tethering plan does add capacity to your plan."
Response: Please provide a reference to the Verizon Source which states this and I will award points as this is an acceptable answer and is what I am looking for as stated in my original post. I cannot just accept a general statement like this as it will carry no wait if I get charged for going over my data limit.

Quote: "Question #1 ... you will be consuming TWICE as much data ..."
Response: This is incorrect as the 4G LTE connection will not be able to provide any more data per second than the phone itself. I think you meant to state that you may consume your limit of n GB per month in a period of a week on a laptop verses 3 weeks on the phone which is correct. If you continue to consume data past your limit, you will need to pay more for it so what is your point? If you don't pay more for going over if you have the tethering plan then that makes all the difference. This would be my misunderstanding and would be an acceptable answer. If this is the case, please point me to the Verizon documentation which states this and I will award points.

Quote: "Question #2 ... You get an ADDITIONAL allowance for your use when you activate a mobile hot-spot."
Response: This seems to allude to the fact that I may not understand how data usage is counted when tethering is added to your plan. Please provide a reference so I can read it and I will award points. Hopefully we are coming to answer here.

Quote:  "Question #3 ... but I don't think anyone would be happy with a monthly data bill of $60+ dollars."
Response: You are correct which is why I am having an issue with this. If I upgrade and keep my current unlimited plan, I will be paying $75 per month for data and tethering. To make matters worse, currently I am not a heavy data user as much of the time I have access to WiFi. I am considering switching to a 2 GB per month plan based on my current usage but I hate to give up my current plan as I will not be able to go back. I will switch however if the tethering was not an added cost or there is in fact an additional data allocation for tethered devices. I already feel that I am overpaying for data based on my current usage. The problem with switching plans is I could see if I have tethering, I may go over one or two months per year as once in a great while I need access and do not have WiFi available.
FYI: Here is a breakdown of my current usage.
              - Verizon Phone: (Unlimited data @ $45/month) Average Usage 0.23 GB/month
              - AT&T iPad: (2 GB/month @ $25) Average usage 0.89 GB/month
I do have another problem with switching which is unrelated to the data plan but is related to usage but will increase my cost per month.

Quote: "Or, in summary, charging for tethering is a way to make the people who use lots of data pay for it, rather than having everyone share the cost whether they use it or not."
Response: Sorry but my experience is just the opposite.
I would like to thank everyone who has tried to answer this question. It looks like there may be an answer but I would like to see it explained in black and white from the Verizon site. I cannot switch plans based on posts in this forum alone. If I were to switch then get hit with additional charges one month, I cannot call customer service and say that jimfitzgerald and rcschnoor told me that there was an additional data being provided to tethered devices.
I hope this helps and I hope this can be answered soon.
