Upgrade to EBS R12 - is it stable? are there many R12 customers? etc....

At Collaborate-07 in Las Vegas in April, I personally got many questions about the R12 stability, quality, support and if there are already other customers who have implemented it. I promised I get back to you and here I am with these slides that addresses many of these concerns:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/applications/ebs/ebs-r12.ppt
As Steven Chan highlighted earlier, I am not an upgrade specialist myself but will help with what I can find out (together with Steven, I will be monitoring this forum and see where help is needed from Oracle internally). But we would love to hear from you, about your experiences, some the metrics, such as sizing, that you identified and honestly, with anything that can help us to help you.

I apologize if I'm misinterpreting your question, but if you really are looking at a re-implementation rather than just an upgrade, I'd say that going to R12 is almost a no-brainer. Might as well get that much further ahead of the desupport curve. Of course, that's pretty easy for me to say, since I don't know your organization's tolerance for risk, or the timing requirements of your re-implementation project. :-)
Thus far, in our upgrade (11.5.10.2->12.0) testing, we haven't seen a whole lot of technical issues; most of our questions/problems seem to be on the functional side (and unfortunately I can't speak to those in great detail at the moment). How much of that stems from conversion of crufty data from our 11i instance, how much from us still being on the "new R12 features" learning curve, and how much from genuine problems with the apps themselves, it's hard to tell. Probably an ample serving of all three...it's still early days for us. :-)
The best way to make a decision, though, is to give it a test drive. I'd suggest running a clone of your 11.5.9 instance through the upgrade process, even if that's not how you'd ultimately plan to deploy R12...that way, you'll have your own data to play with, instead of fictional "Vision" data. Have some of your more forgiving/high-functioning users review the new version and features with you, and see what you like and don't like. Even if you ultimately decide that you don't want to make the leap to R12 now, you might see some things that will enable you to make decisions about how you structure your data (with respect to TCA, etc) in an 11.5.10 re-implementation that will benefit your later, inevitable upgrade to R12.

Unfortunately, CS6 is the last version Adobe made available for purchase on perpetual license.  So there are no upgrades available except to join the Creative Cloud and pay monthly.
As a Creative Suite user, you qualify for a substantial discount for the first year -- $29.95/month for Full Plan which affords access to all the software and other services.

  • Hello, are there many others having problems with creating Genius Playlists from their iPhone 5's

    Hello People,
are there many others experiencing problems creating Genius Playlists from their iPhone 5's???
I have a 64GB Black iPhone 5 and a 32GB White iPhone 5, I have recently performed a fresh install (wiped phone memory and installed Apps individually again) yet even after this and no less then several calls to Apple I am still unable to create a genius playlist on either phone. The message I receive after hitting the Genius "star" is "The operation couldn't be completed. Operation timed out" Operation timed out."
I have tried this also on 3G and receive the same message........

I wish Apple would have provided more detail on how it worked. I wouldn't have posted this if I new that SMS & Mac Calling had nothing to do with Bluetooth pairing.
You mean like this? Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite
Please note how Apple articulates this though.
    Check your settings
Check the following settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Make sure your iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and comparing the name of the network each is on.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
Go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps and make sure Handoff is on.
Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
Sometimes things have to be explained in more detail for the general consumer who has been conditioned for decades to think about wireless  cellphone audio / light data to [anything other device else] connectivity in a certain fashion. That is to say Bluetooth dependent ...
For the non-technical person, which overwhelmingly many Apple users are, they would see that bulleted point and think if Bluetooth is not paired and active, then they would not received the full scope of their Continuity features.
It would have been better for the copywriter who wrote this to (*) footnote this entry and explain that while Bluetooth recognition may be necessary between Yosemite and iPhone, SMS Push to iMessage and Mac Calling does not require an actively paired connection as these functions are dependent on iCloud and both devices being registered on the same WiFi network.
Thank you to all who helped me get my mind around and figure this out.
It has also opened my eyes to how iCloud has become a critical link in Apple's overall walled garden  and business strategy.

  • Why are there many more glyphs available in Illustrator CS4 than Indesign CS4?

I am in the process of converting a document from Illustrator to InDesign.
Many of the glyphs and ligatures in Illustrator aren't available in Indesign for the same font, Bickham Script Pro.
I checked that all of the opentype settings between the two programs are the same.
I'm currently using suitcase, but I've tried installing font explorer and I get the same problem.

  • Are there any happy customers of EE Fibre?

I'm thinking of moving to EE Fibre/TV as it will save me money and I've had a demo of the TV Box and really like it. I am however put off rather by the terrible customer satisfaction reviews EE Broadband seems to get both on the OFCOM surveys and on other broadband review sites.  I do appricate that forums like this are primarily for fixing problems and having a good moan, but I was wondering if anyone out there is happy with EE as their ISP. Also if I do move and it goes horribily wrong, how easy is it to cancel without penalty? Jonathan

The dissatisfaction is usually with the BB technical support, which is atrocious, not the fibre or ADSL connection.

Not! Your 14-day cooling-off period will have expired by the time the service is connected and you've had a chance to experience it. New OFCOM rules may make it easier but they only concern whether speeds meet targets.

  • What issues are there in upgrading from LabVIEW 4.0 up to LabVIEW 6.1?

I am "inheriting" a LabVIEW 4.0 application that is running on an old (133MHz) Pentium PC with the Windows95 OS. I would like to upgrade the PC to a more recent CPU running Windows2000. I also want to upgrade LabVIEW to version 6.1. Are there any issues in performing the LabVIEW upgrade? Will I need to rework most of the application or is the transition from LabVIEW 4.0 to 6.1 fairly painless and transparent?
Any help is appreciated. I've never been through a LabVIEW upgrade before and am treading in uncharted water.
    Thanks.

Boy, it seems I can't stick my head above water without this topic coming up. I've had thr exact same upgrade question come up on two different contracts--in the past week!
In any case, the code itself should come across without major problems, unless you are using CINs. The only real trouble I'v had are with things like serial I/O as the drivers have changed dramatically over the years.
Now the code that you translate will be (by comparison) very inefficient thanks to the makor enhancements that have taken place over the last two major revisions.
For the most part, I would have to vote for "fairly painless".

    1. in physical connections part can i use the same work schema
    2. Can i use same contexts created or do i need to create everything as new and then try?
    Thanks,
    Rp.
    Hi,
As you mentioned that you just upgraded the database, so the data is same and schema is same you can connect with the same work schema.
Yes, you can use the same contexts , but need to do Reverse Engineering for your new database.
And about data server, i think you also have no need to create new data server, if hostname, sid and port etc are same as these were with R11(consult with your DBAs regarding it)

  • How to compile invalid object after 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.5 upgrade in EBS R12

    Hi,
We have total 31000 invalid object after 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.5 upgrade in EBS R12. How we compile these objects?

    Ashish,
if you are seeing PLS-00801: internal error [1041] when trying to compile a package that is invalid, you may need to run utlirp.sql against the instance and then the utlrp.sql script. You need to pay attention to the manner in which you run these scripts. To run the utlirp.sql script you need to:
    shutdown the instance
    restart instance in upgrade mode
    startup upgrade
    run the utlirp.sql script @utlirp or @?/rdbms/admin/utlirp
shutdown the instance and restart normally
    run utlrp.sql @utlrp or @?/rdbms/admin/utlrp
If you are running an auto-config instance, you can source the db environment, optionally switch to the $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin folder and shutdown the instance:
    sqlplus 'as /sysdba'
    shutdown immediate
    startup upgrade;
    @utilrp
    shutdown
    startup
    @utlrp
After compiling everything, I would shutdown the instance using the ./addbctl stop script and then restart it. As stated elsewhere, it can take time to compile the invalids--many hours in some cases. The utlirp.sql script may run for quite awhile before it completes since it is invalidating objects.
Please make sure you read up on utlirp.sql and PLS-00801 if that's what you are encountering.

  • Document for Out of Place Upgrade of ebs database

    Hi,
Can someone point out to me a document which gives steps for out of place upgrade of ebs 12.1.3 database from 11.1.0 to 11.2.0.3 ? I tried it myself and it went well but I am still not sure whether something is still missing because there are still 346 invalid objects in the db. Here are the steps I have followed:
    On the source:
       Run adpreclone
    2.       Run utlu112i.sql (copy it from the 11.2.0 home)
Act on the recommendations of utlu112i.sql.
Backup the source db and the apps folder
Copy the backup to the target server.
    6.       Copy pfile.
    7.
    On the target:
         install the 11.2.0.3 software
         apply required patches
                 Restore and recover the database.
                 run catupgrd.sql
                 run catuppst.sql;
                 run utlrp.sql;
                 run dbupgdiag.sql
run adconfig.sh contextfile=<contextfile> at db tier.
Shut down listener and database and restart to load the new env.
restored apps folder (backup of source)
                 run adcfgclone.pl appsTier
                 run autoconfig.
              Regards,
              Vinod

UPGRADE 11.1.0.7 DATABASE TO 11.2.0.3 DATABASE WITH R12.1.3
Please also see the forum as it is been discussed several times.
BTW, with respect to your invalid objects did you try recompiling the objects using:
    1. adadmin > Compile apps schema
    2. connected as sysdba > run @$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql

How to Upgrade AR tables whith Huge amount of Datas ( > 50 Millions Rows ) ?

    Hi,
Dont worry, you are not the only one even we have one customer whose AR_DISTRIBUTIONS_ALL table is 80 GB now and i can even do select count(*) for this table.
We had to keep this much data for business requirements, but i wonder if this is a bug or users mistake.
Due to this we are facing seruios performance issues for AR reports and raised SRs but no resolution yet. And this guy who is assigned to us is reall ynot been helpful to fix the issue.
Although we did not upgrade for this customer, but we migrated from 11.5.9 to R12.1.1 by re-implementation. But all these increasing size of these tables happened after migration.
And i believe most of the time in your upgrade is going to building the indexes. You can ask Oracle if they can edit the driver file to skip building the indxes and rebuild them after upgrade. But again it will also take time.
Another option for you is to "Archive and Purge the data" as per chapter 10 of
    11i Receivables user guide.

  • Is it possible to upgrade MRC SOB's in 11i as Secondary Ledgers in R12

We have a specific business requirement to convert current MRC Sets of Books as Secondary Ledgers when we upgrade to Oracle r12. My questions are as following
    1. Is this feasible to do?
    2. If yes what are the options?
    3. Can we change the setup in 11i to convert a MRC set of books to a Statutory Set of Books with dual postnig so it could upgrade as a Secondary Ledger?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Amit

    Hi Amit,
i am unable to find any reference from oracle stating that your requirement is NOT FEASIBLE ... However the intended functionality of the Upgrade scripts is to create reporting currency ledgers in R12 for your Reporting set of books in 11i .....
Secondary ledger is a new concept in Release 12, it is not an extension or replacement to any feature in 11i, hence i highly doubt a standard script can map an Reporting Set of Books in 11i to a Secondary Ledger in R12...
However do log a service request from oracle to get this confirmed ...
