Upgrade to Illustrator CS4 from CS

I currently have cs, i upgraded to Illustraor CS4 but upon installation, it is not excepting my serial number. I had to use a trail. Customer Service is of course closed. Does anyone know what I can do?
Thanks!
Dina

Hello Dina,
yep, that is the level of service and performance you will get from Illustrator Team.
Do you know that Adobe knows that there are problems with its installers, but Adobe still refuses to provided updates. I can almost guarantee you that Adobe will blame your OS. (John Nack, Principal Product Manager, Adobe Photoshop, said it: http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/12/notes_from_installer_mgmt.html#more)
Adobe is not providing updates for illustrator since 09/04/2007 (ALMOST 3 YEARS AGO!). I really do not know why still selling a bad software.
Maybe tomorrow you can ask them why?

  • Upgrading to Illustrator CS4 english from FreeHand MX french

I wonder if a french version's FreeHand serial number will be accepted by an english version of the Illustrator CS4 upgrade ?
Does anybody have an idea ?
    Thanks,
    Boyan

Call customer service and ask if it was the English version it would have to be Great Britain as they say on my master collection package Only for distribution in North America so you might not even be able to activate it or register it with an address in France.
BTW I do work in Paris and I noticed that the cost of anything photographic or computer related was way higher then here in the States. Even removable media. I bought a portable hard drive by La Cie there and it costs $100 more in paris then the New York. That was $300 as opposed to $200 here.
I agree I think it is a bit unfair. However it is my understanding that the salaries in Europe are generally higher then in New York which means they are very much higher then the rest of the U.S. which may be the reason. So I think it kind of even outs. Also the problem might be on your side of the fence as the import laws require fees or tariffs to be paid and might also level fines against companies that allow certain products to circumvent local import rules.
I know once a I sent some slides to the UK and I wrote a value on them of $300, but was not aware that it meant an invoice value, the customs imposed a $179 import fee on them and there was no if ands or buts about it.
Though they still use film in Europe it is kind of cray to do so I can get a pack of Ready Load 4X5 film for about $75.00 it cost more then twice that in Paris. It is considered a competing product so the tariff is huge but some people tell me it is not the Tariff or the VAT.
But my experience says it is and also it might be more expensive to do business in Europe.
So it is hard to tell why and some products from overseas are cheaper as well in the us then they are in US then in Europe fm where they originate?
I wonder what really drives this discrepancy.

  • Error 2 installing Illustrator CS4 from Web Premium

I've just spent a couple of hours trying to get Adobe Creative Suite 4 Web Premium completely installed on my work PC (the University of St Andrews, UK) using the volume licence key but I get an error when installing it.  It says "Done, with errors".  When I click on "More Information" I get a message saying:
    Adobe Illustrator CS4 LangPack (en_GB)
    Error:
    Error 2.
and sure enough, everything works apart from Illustrator CS4.  I read elsewhere on the forums (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2415634#2415634) about a solution, but I didn't fully understand the steps required.
I'm using an absolutely clean installation of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (just has Windows 7, Office 2007 Professional and now Adobe CS4 Web Premium.  It's installed with English (United Kingdom) region settings.
When I run the Adobe Support Advisor it says:

Error UninstallColorProfilesRollback occurs preventing the installer from updating existing color profiles when installing the Adobe Creative Suite 4 product

I followed the advice there, but the registry information didn't exist ("Right-click PDF Admin Settings and choose Permissions.") so I couldn't pursue that route.
When I tried to reinstall Illustrator CS4 it said that it was using "English (International)".  It still doesn't work.
Any advice would be gratefully received.  Or how can I contact Adobe about this directly?
    Thanks

    Hi Scott.
It was not that I was unwilling to Archive and Install... I didn't catch that in your initial response and that's why I called Apple... because I did understand that the user account was corrupt.  Apparently Apple is not aware of the Archive and Install fix either because that was not recommended.  I am sure if it was a common fix, they would have told me about it.  So, now that you have further explained how Archive and Install work, I am sure that information will be very helpful to someone else with the exact same problem.  This problem, for your information, is not uncommon as I found the question many times in my quest to get an answer... so there is indeed an issue that needs to be resolved.  Installing this software should have been just as easy as it was to install all the other software on my computer.
I know someone will find your response, in its entirety, very helpful.  Again, thank you for your time.
    Take care,

I have a Windows PC with Pagemaker 6.5 installed, which is listed as an eligible product to upgrade to Indesign CS4. However, on installation the only options presented for upgrade are CS, CS2, and CS3. What steps do I need to take to complete the installation as an upgrade to Pagemaker?
    Thank you

You bought the wrong upgrade. Call Adobe and see if they can help.

  • Upgrading Indesign CS4 from Creative Suite 3

    Hi!
Is it possible to upgrade only Indesign CS4 from Creative Suite 3 or do I have to buy the whole Creative Suite 4?
I bought an upgrade for Indesign CS4, but now I can use it only as a testversion, because when I start the programme
it asks me besides the new serial number for Indesign 4 also for a serial number of CS3.
But I have only one serial number for the complete Creative Suite and this one will not be accepted.
    What can I do?

    Hello Mr. Spier,
thank you for answering. So I will buy the complete bundle.

  • Illustrator cs4 slowing down

I have just recently upgraded to adobe cs4 from cs2 and am wondering why now when I copy a file from Illustrator and click on my photoshop it takes a few minutes for photoshop to load up when it is already loaded and I can do nothing but surf the internet while I wait. While using cs2 when I would copy and illustrator file and paste it into photoshop cs2 it worked seemlessly with no lag time. Now I am waiting anywhere from 3-10 minutes just for it to load. Is there a way to speed this up? I went from 2 gigs of RAM previously and recently upgraded to 4 gigs and am seeinig no signifcant difference. Any and all help would be great.  Thanks,

"don't bother trying to save Photoshop files"  A 200MB Grayscale Photoshop PSD file, say 12"x17" with 5 spot channels placed in Illustrator saves in about 3-5 seconds. The exact same file as a DCO2 EPS file (the way we'd been doing it for 10 years because the old image setters liked it that way) takes a little under 10 minutes. Since the surge of all-over printing with file sizes reaching upwards of 34"x48" at 200dpi, the files become cumbersome and barely manageable. Discovered it's better to place than embed when you can, do all of it on a drive outside of your OS and scratch disks, Ram drives work, even if it's just 500MB (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16518). The lag in Illustrator has a lot to do with the Graphics card and your refresh/quality settings. I discovered yesterday the layer preview window settings (the small image box next to the layer tick) are not persistent but the benefit of turning it off is phenomenal, the same applies to Photoshop. Until they fix it, try to make a habit of killing it off first thing.
I can't tell you what to do when Illustrator simply collapses when saving a file. I take a walk.
The lag and stability issues are on both our PowerPCs and our newer machines and the issue belongs to Apple as much as Adobe. 8GB of Ram on top of 2 dual 2.5s and a 2 gig bus (add that to 3 dedicated scratch disks 2GB Ramdisk, an Intel 160GB X-25M SSD the other a 500GB Raid) should be sufficient to copy and paste between applications...  PainterX snaps and pops with no spinning wheel of death, no "not responding" and I've never received "Unable to preview image/ scratch disk full" error during operation even though the file sizes in Painter tend to be much, much larger (resolution, size, and color depth). I'm still interested in seeing Wade's system specs.
Illustrator 10 and Photoshop 7 both run better on our old G4 under 10.2 than their CS counterparts on 10.5. I can wait for the next round of technical improvements on the hardware side, but I have serious reservations about my continued loyalty to the Adobe product line. Something is going to have to change. Perhaps they could offer a Pro version that is a leaner, more geared towards production art with less catering to diva designers.
...and I'd like my Illustrator 10 type tool back with an option to kill open type off forever. An option to apply legacy support in every file (or not) without having to physically chase it through the menus. PDFs embed the typestyle in the art. There should be an option when opening an PDF in Illustrator to outline the type in place before it determines the need to convert it to whatever it feels like at the time.
...why is there an "Expand" button in the Pathfinder dialog box? Why does AI group the objects welded together instead of making them a compound path like they use to (as recently as CS3)?

  • Illustrator CS4 no longer allows me to paste images "Quicktime and a decompresser are needed to view this image". How do I fix this?

Since I installed the Yosemite Mac software upgrade, my Illustrator CS4 no longer allows me to paste images. I get the message "Quicktime and a decompresser are needed to view this image". How do I fix this? I've tried everything, nothing works!!!!

Did you use migration with the new OS or did you reinstall the CS4 apps from the original media? If you didn't, then you should uninstall CS4 making sure to check the box to remove preferences, run the Cleaner tool (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and then reinstall CS4. CS4 is totally untested and unsupported on the latest versions of Mac OSes.

  • Trouble getting Illustrator CS4 to run, and when it does: no workspaces

At work (University of St Andrews) I have Adobe CS4 Web Premium and everything installs and runs okay apart from Illustrator CS4.
I've tried to install it on two different PCs, both Dell Precision workstations. One had Windows XP Professional 32-bit, the new one has Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I get exactly the same behaviour on both. I've even tried to install it on Windows 7's XP Mode and I get the same error messages!
    INSTALLATION #1
When I installed it I got an error saying "Done, with errors". Details showed:
    Error
    Adobe Illustrator CS4 LangPack (en_GB)
    Error:
    Error 2
When I then tried to run the application it just wouldn't start, it would throw up an error message. It simply would not start.
    INSTALLATION #2
So I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and got the same error.
    COPY FILES - NO WORKSPACES
I then read this advice on a forum:
"Do you have a working install of Ai CS4 on another computer anywhere?
    If so, go into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator\Support\Required
and copy the Resources file to the same location on the computer that
encounters the error. I was having the same problem, but luckily I had a
working install on another OS, so I just compared the files between the
two installations and found the missing ones."
So I copied over these files from a working copy elsewhere in the department and this time the application ran but I now have no WorkSpace settings and cannot save any either.
    INSTALLATION #3
I then uninstalled again and tried to reinstall. This time on the installer I was given a number of language options. Rather than English (International) I selected English (US) and lo! and behold! the installer ran without errors and the application opened ok and this time I had WorkSpaces... the only problem was that it would only run in trial mode because it wouldn't accept my serial number, which I'm guessing is for English (International) only.
    INSTALLATION #4
Uninstall, again. Reinstall, again, this time in English (International).
Now the application opens but again I have no WorkSpaces, and cannot save any workspaces.
What can I do? Any idea how can I get a fully working version of Illustrator CS4 on my PC that includes workspaces?
    Thank you
    Gareth

    Hi Carey,
Thanks for your post. I have followed your instructions and here are my replies:
Are you having any issues with your other Adobe products, or is it just Illustrator?
If just Illustrator, did you previously install the product separately (i.e. as a trial, or as a pre-release/beta)?
I am having problems only with Illustrator CS4. I have not installed the product separately, either as a trial or a pre-release or beta.
In fact, I installed Adobe CS4 Web Premium on a clean, newly installed, straight-from-the-Dell-factory Dell Precision T7400. It was the first application I installed, and Illustrator wasn't working straight after the installation.
I've not had any problems with other Adobe applications. The only time the serial number became an issue was when I tried to reinstall Illustrator CS4 using "English (US)" as an option, simply out of curiosity as this hadn't been an option with the original installation of the whole suite.
    I followed the instructions:
    Deleted C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4.
Updated permissions for Public Documents (although when I reached step 12: "Click Apply and click Permissions tab." there was no Permissions tab).
Reinstalled Illustrator CS4 from the setup.exe file. You said uncheck everything else, however the following applications would not allow me to untick them:
    Adobe Bridge CS4
    Adobe Extension Manager CS4
    Supporting Components:
              Adobe CMaps CS4
              Adobe CSI CS4
              Adobe CSI CS4 x64
Adobe Color EU Recommended Settings CS4
Adobe Color JA Extra Settings CS4
Adobe Color NA Extra Settings CS4
              Adobe Default Language CS4
              Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS4
              Adobe Fonts All CS4
              Adobe Adobe Linguistics CS4
              Adobe Output Module
              Adobe PDF Library Files CS4
              Adobe Search for Help
              Adobe Service Manager Extension
              Adobe Type Support CS4
              Adobe Update Manager CS4
              Adobe WinSoft Linguistics PLugin x64
              Adobe XMP Panels CS4
              AdobeColorCommonSetCMYK
              AdobeColorCommonSetRGB
              Connect
              PDF Settings CS4
              Photoshop Camera Raw _x64
              kuler
The installer ran, and I got exactly the same error as before:
    Error
    Adobe Illustrator CS4 LangPack (en_GB)
    Error:
    Error 2
Now when I try to run Illustrator CS4 I get a dialog box saying:
    Error
The localized resource files for this application could not be loaded. Please reinstall or repair the application and try again.
This is the ninth time I've tried to reinstall it.
I'll try to send you a direct message with the serial number and take it from there.
    Thanks

  • Cannot reinstall Adobe Illustrator CS4

    Hello!
2007, I have bought Adobe Illustrator CS4 from your website.
I used it few months and then I put it aside. First, the cd kept asking for a serial number and the one I still had since 2007, did not work. One must buy a new serial number, i have heard. How is that even possible or fair in any way? SO THE 170 Euros were payed for a time-limited product? Is this milk!?
Anyhow, now the cd doesn't even "run". It keeps showing that "the Installer database is corrupt", after have clicked "run" and then "install".
    Thanks in advance.
    Sincerely R.A.A

Whatever you heard regarding having to buy a new serial number is false information - your license remains valid as long as you paid for it yourself.  If your disc is not loading properly you can download the installation thru the page linked below.

  • Can I upgrade from Ilustrator 10 To Illustrator CS4?

    Hello,
Do any of you know if I can upgrade from adobe Illustrator 10 to Adobe Illustrator CS4?
I talked to one person in adobe customer service and she said yes, but I just want to make sure that I can do this without any problem, I thought maybe one of you already has done this upgrade.
I looked in the adobe CS4 Upgrade page and only shows CS, CS2 and CS3 and Freehand but nothing about Illustrator 10.
That's why I would like to double check before purchasing  CS4 Upgrade.
I appreciate any info you may provide.
    Thank You!

    Albis,
Check my answer from this querry:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2242359#2242359
You can buy an unregistered copy of Illustrator upgrade CS or CS2 and Adobe will honor the upgrade policy, they are very good at that. Finding one on eBay is easy and if you use sellers who use PayPal you will avoid the rip-off artists. But since the demand is low and the selling prices are reasonable you can expect to upgrade to CS or CS2 quite reasonably with very few fears of loosing your money. Then, when you want to upgrade to CS 3 or CS4 you be on the upgrade path and eligible to do so.
    Hope this helps.

  • Illustrator CS4 plugin problem after upgrade to OS X Yosemite

I just upgrade my OS X Maverick to Yosemite, and found my adobe illustrator CS4 got error while i open it.
it shown missing plugin of  photoshopimport.aip....
Anyone know how to solve this problem??

Yosemite has several features that I have been looking forward to and will continue to use. I find them extremely useful.
I've hated Adobe since I first bought Pagemaker in the early 90's. If I was a heavy user I would be using their cloud CS anyway but I'm not. I can't justify the cost. Smaller more accessible companies are eager to pick up us cast offs from Adobe. I for one am looking forward to leaving Adobe behind.
FWIW saving an image as a PDF in Photoshop works fine for me.

  • How do I recover an Illustrator CS4 key from OSX?

I just purchased a new iMac for one of our Graphics employees, and in addition to Adobe CC she needs Illustrator CS5 installed, because there is a plugin we use for a client that isn't available for versions newer than CS5. The problem I'm running in to is our CS5 copy was an upgrade from CS4 and naturally this was before we started using the Adobe TLP so we bought everything retail and nobody can find our CS4 licensing info.
Illustrator CS4 is still installed on her current Mac, but I can't seem to find a way to retrieve the key on OSX, does anyone know how I can do it?

I was able to recover the key using the freeware version of this: Mac Product Key Finder. Recover lost product keys for Mac applications

  • Illustrator CS4 no longer previews fonts in Character palette after Yosemite upgrade..Please Help

Illustrator CS4 no longer previews fonts in Character palette after Yosemite upgrade
    Please help...Thanks

    inkydmark,
You may wish to roll back from Yosemite and wait to see whether the issues will be solved and reported as such.
Weeding out in older plugins seems to have helped some in some cases. It also seems that JAVA Runtime may be involved, for some it seems to help to roll back to an ealier version, for others to update to the newest.
All the above is more or less hearsay so far, with no definite final confirmation.
In any case, there is something to be sorted out by someone. Yosemite was made long after CS4, so it may be difficult.
There is a way round an even worse issue shown in post #2 here:
