Upgrade to iOS 5 - setting my own ringtone

Hi everyone - I need help. I just upgraded my 3GS to iOS5. Whilst my own ringtones were all restored, I cannot set it anymore. It's rather awkward. In Settings->Sounds-> Ringtone I can see my own ringtone and listen to it but when I check it as to set it as ringtone my iPhone doesn't take it. It only wants the per default installed ones. Anyone knows what is happening there?

Found the solution: start the iPhone and my custom ringtones are back and setable;-)...

I had similar problems with both my iphone and ipad when using my wifi, but not when using cellular. Turned out to be a Comcast issue with their implementation of DNSSEC validation. Setting my own ringtone for calls

Can someone please tell me how I set my own ringtones and message tones as I have gone over it so many times its doing my head in now. Many thanks in advance

You cannot set additional ringtones for messaging, but you can for ringtones.
There are many ways to make ringtones. Several are explained here:

How do you set your own ringtones on an iPhone 6?

I used to own an iPhone 4s and I had no problem making ringtones and transferring them to be used on the phone. However I just cant seem to work out how to get them to show up on my new iPhone 6 when choosing ringtones I have made.
I have renamed them so they are in m4r format and they show up under "tones" in itunes under my phones dropdown but when I go to find them in the sounds menu on my phone after disconnecting it with my computer they are nowhere to be found.
This is really starting to **** me off. Why can't they make this easier for users of an iPhone? Seems crazy that they haven't made this easier to do after 6+ versions of the their phone.

My custom Ringtones that I have used on my earlier iPhones do show up on iPhone 6. They are under Settings>Sounds>Ringtones ...My Custom Ringtones are the first choices showing and they have a line under the group of customer ringtones and then below the line are the standard Ringtones. I did nothing special in iTunes when I Restored from Backup to put my personal Media and Data on my new iPhone 6.

Im new to iphone. I would like to set my own ringtone. I follow the instructions given by one of the application which i donwloaded from App store. According to tha app, i need to change the song i chose to xxx.(m4r) frm xxx.m4a but i couldnt change the file name. Anyone here know how to change it or any prob in my computer software. Pls advice. Samsung Stratosphere set own ringtone for txt and pic messaging??

I have been able to set my own ringtones for Email alerts but can't figure out how to set my own ringtones for txt msgs other than the ones already on the phone.
for email alerts I went to My Files app and found the music i wanted that i put in folder saved ringtones.. The I hit the menu button on bottom left of phone and selected Set as. And chose Phone ringtone.
Just can't find similar path to set for Txt and Pic messaging.

Go to Messaging. Then Menu > Settings, and scroll down to the Notification settings area, where Select ringtone is an option.

I upgraded to IOS 7 and seemed to lose my music ringtones but kept all my other music. Is that typical?

I seemed to lose my purchased ringtones from my device but I did not lose anything else in terms of apps and music. I did back it up before the upgrade.

If you are having issues dragging music to your iPhone 4 after a recent upgrade to iOS 7, you may want to verify that the phone is still set to "Manually manage music and videos." You may find the following article helpful:

Recently at the Apple Store in Vancouver an Apple staff reset my computer (erased everything and sent to iCloud to reset the iPad) and I hoped this would fix the problem. IPad Safari still crashes. Short of booking an appointment for taking it for repair to Apple technicians which will cost me money can anyone help me to fix this Safari crashing.

You might have a 3rd party plugin that isn't compatible with Safari 4.0.4. Go here for help...

If you are using a USB hub, try disconnecting and restarting with just your keyboard and mouse connected.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...

When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

That's not the correct port. It should be 993 for incoming.
If you signed into iCloud from the System Preferences, it should automatically create the iCloud account for you in Mail. Sounds like it is an account you already had set up for MMe in Mail.
Open Mail preferences, open the Accounts tab, disable that account in the advanced pane.
Open Sys Prefs, open the iCloud tab, and sign out of iCloud. Then sign back in and see if a new iCloud account is automatically created.

Sometimes i cannot conenct to WIFI even standing infront of WIFI router. Please help, restoring setting even didn't helped.

Update: my phone's connecting to the WiFi again. I don't know what did the trick. I did nothing since reinstalling the software. It hadn't worked then, it is now. I tried connecting to my dad's phone's hotspot( he uses a Moto G), and it worked. I then tried connecting to the WiFi at a friend's house, and when I came back home, my phone was able to connect to my WiFi! Is it of any significance that my friend's router doesn't require a password? My issue has been resolved( for now; I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched). For anyone facing a similar issue, I suggest you try everything I did:
1. Turn your router off for a minimum of 30 seconds, turn it back on and try connecting.
2. Click on the WiFi network you are connected to, scroll to the bottom, tap "Renew Lease".
3. Do a soft and hard reset.
4. Reset network settings.
5. Back your data up, erase all content from settings menu, restore from backup.
6. Reinstall your software( put it in recovery mode).
I am not sure which of the above worked for me. Make sure you try everything. If none of the above works, take it to a genius bar or an authorised service provider. Good luck! :)

I lost my ringtones from my phone when I upgraded to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4. The ringtones are still on my computer and play in iTunes, but they won't re-transfer back to the phone. I'm using the correct iTunes account on both my computer and phone. In the iPhone view of iTunes on my computer, it shows that my phone recognizes that I had those ringtones, but there is an exclamation mark showing that my phone can't find the files. I can't delete these "placeholders" from my phone with the hopes of re-transfering the files back to the phone, either. I cannot just simply re-transfer the files from my computer back to the phone. It won't let me using the regular synch options and I can't find anything in the menus of iTunes to help me out either.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you, James, but I do have a WiFi connection on the iPad mini. The Numbers files update on my iPad third generation and iPhone just fine when connected to the same network.
