Upgrade to iOS 6 and lost all text messages

I have recently upgraded my Iphone 4 to iOS 6.1.3 and resotred evey thing except text messages... All the Text Messages were lost...
Is there any way these text sms could be recovered?? I am using Windows 7

You restored from a backup?
The only way to recover your text is if you made a backup of your phone prior to upgrading, then after you upgrade you can restore from that backup.

Doesn't sound like you have iCloud? If not, then no, you are out of luck....

Her contacts would be wherever she put them
The iphone is designed to be synced to your computer or cloud service regularly. If she failed to do this, then they are likely gone.

This was the scenario:
The first time I updated, it was only my music that was lost.
When I got my music back, I lost my apps.
When I got my apps back, my contacts, notes and photos were lost.
Now I got back everything except for my photos.
(Yes, I restored from backup several times since the first update.)
Do you think if I try restoring from back up, my photos that were taken from my ipod will be restored finally?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything on the new computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipad- without syncing : File>Transfer Purchases
In some countries you can redownload some itunes content.

Check for previous backups in iTunes. Use iPhone Backup Extractor and extract contacts from iTunes backup if they exist.

If your back up was successful, then just resync. The books are there. If they are not, simply go back to the bookstore and redownload them for free.

I've upgraded to iOS 8.0.2 with no improvement.
I've reset network settings on both versions with no positive result.
I can't rollback to iOS 7 as apple has stopped signing the build.
I realise the 4s is fairly old tech but this experience has been quite time consuming and incredibly frustrating as I still haven't managed to resolve the issue. I had been holding back to upgrade to the new generation of iPhone but this experience and the negative press has made me seriously consider other options.

Here is what you can try,
Hold both the power and home buttons until the device powers off, may take 10sec. Let go of both as soon as screen goes black.
Open itunes on your computer and plug in your cable to the computer but NOT the phone.
Once itunes is open hold down the home button on phone and plug in cable and continue holding home button until you see the connect to iTunes logo on screen. iTunes will give a msg that a device has been detected in recovery mode. Now select restore and do not disconnect until you see your device in iTunes again.

If you open your current profile folder, do you have a bookmarkbackups folder in there?
Help > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder button
If so, copy those somewhere safe before proceeding.
If not, do you ever back up your profile folder?
You also might navigate up a level and see whether you have any other Firefox profiles.
If you cannot save any new bookmarks, I wonder whether your places.sqlite file (stores history and bookmarks) in your profile has become corrupted. You might need to rename that file and allow Firefox to create a new one before you can save new bookmarks again. I wouldn't delete the file just yet, as it might contain some useful stuff.

A few comments:
You will eventually be able to retrieve all your apps. You will be able to go to the App Store on your iPad, click "Updates" in the lower right, click "Purchased" and re-download them from there (but be careful - download them one at a time).
It sounds like the reason the photos and apps did not appear is you may have run out of memory on the iPad. The new iOS offers more features, and is somewhat bigger than the old. Check Settings > General > Usage and see how much space you have left and what the big space consumers are. You should do housekeeping to get an absolute minimum of 10% of the space on your iPad free. For example, if you have a 16GB iPad, you would need absolutely no less than 1.6GB free.
You said "I do not dare doing another restore ...". On the contrary, you should update your iOS at every opportunity to avoid these giant updates such as you just did. You went from iOS 4 to 6, which means it's been over a year and a half since your last update. If you did them more frequently, they would be less dramatic.
