Upgrade to iPhoto 6 Problem

I've just upgraded from iPhoto4 to iPhoto6 and when I try to open my library I get the following message.
"Unable to upgrade this photo library because current user does not have access. If possible, repair permissions for iPhoto Library folder and try again."
I repaired the permissions and I still have the problem.
I also upgraded iMovie from 4 to 6 and I have no problem opening movies I have created in iMovie4. Prior to upgrading I saved iPhoto4 and the library to my external hard drive and it iPhoto4 opens fine from my HD.
Does anyone have a solution to my problem with iPhoto6? Thanks.

If you are uncomfortable using the Terminal try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • I am running 10.9.4. on an older Mac (mid 2007). My iPhoto is 7.1.5.  I have no access to photos on iCloud. The icon does not even appear. I've been told that an iPhoto upgrade may not solve problem. Advice?

I have no access to photos on iCloud. The icon does not even appear on my mac or in iCloud.
The Mac is running 10.9.4. on a mid 2007 model.
    My iPhoto is 7.1.5.
I was told that my system was too old to support the required upgrades that would allow me to to see photos on iCloud; thus, I should not be the latest iPhoto.  Accurate?

All you need to do is upgrade your iPhoto to iPhoto 9.5.1 thru the App Store.  This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1

  • Upgrading to iPhoto 6 from iPhoto 4, any problem?

I have iPhoto 4, and I want to upgrade to iPhoto 6. Is there any problem with skipping from 4 to 6?
I do plan to back everything up before I do any upgrading. Actually after backing up, I may erase some of the photos from my internal hd. I have over 6000 and iPhoto is seeming a little sluggish, hopefully eliminating some photos will help.
Any advice before I do this is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

To have a V5 library you would have had to buy iLIfe 054 and install it so I don't think it is a V5 library.
Go into the iPhoto Library folder and open the Originals folder. There should be subfolders in there representing each roll in the library. Check to see if there are any subfolders, if they contain files and that those files are full sized files.
If they are and it seem your files are there but just not getting seen by iPhoto there are a couple of routes you can take:
1 - run iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild your library. This sill create a new library by copying the files and data it need from your old library to the new one. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.
2 - the second option is to copy the Originals folder from the existing library folder to the desktop. Then move that library folder to the trash. Now launch iPhoto and when it tells you it cannot find a library select the new library option. Now drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto library window to import. That should get you a library with the same rolls (but probably different roll dates but those can be edited) but no keywords, albums, etc.

I am running iPhoto 09 right now & I'm trying to update to 11 so that I can use 'Photo Stream", plus the benefits of iPhoto 11 of course. When I go to update I get to the subscribe button & I get the above messege: "There is a problem with the subscription" followed by "Request to the server macappstore://itunes.apple.com failed." Now I'm stuck on how to upgrade from iPhoto 09 to 11 ?? Any suggestions? Should I call Apple??

  • Just upgraded to iPhoto 11 and have a major problem!

Can anyone assist me please. I have just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and once I loaded it and tried to organise my photo collection, the system informed me that my iPhoto needed to be upgraded to iPhoto 11.
I purchased the upgrade and when I loaded Adobe PSE9 'Organiser' I received an error message box which states that I have an
e-licenser Control Error. Specifically it states that 'Halion Sonic 1.x M6' has caused the following error:
elicenser(s) contains no valid license for this application.
It then gives me the following options:
         - For Trouble shooting options click 'Help'
         - Click <Licences> to view available licenses
         - Connect a valid eLicenser and click <retry>
         - Click <cancel> to abort.
I do have an elicense for Halion products that I use with Cubase 6. I am not sure why a software for my music studio should conflict with PSE9 and prevent the software from organising my photographs from iPhoto.
Even if I remove the Adobe software from my iMAC the iPhoto 11 upgrade will not load any of my photos that were originally on the system
Please can anyone offer me some advice as I have tried all of the above options without success.

    Your question is not clear
Can anyone assist me please. I have just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and once I loaded it and tried to organise my photo collection, the system informed me that my iPhoto needed to be upgraded to iPhoto 11.
How were you organizing your photo collection? You are aware that make any changes to the content or structure of the iPhoto library will corrupt your library and cause data loss
As to informing you that you needed to upgrade to iPhoto '11 - I do not believe that that ever happens - you may be notified that your library has been upgraded and you need an upgrade - this can be caused by library corruption (like moving or modifying files within the iPhoto library using the finder or a program other than iPhoto) - I'm not clear but it could possibly be related to your organizing your photos
You then go into s discussion of PSE9, Halion and Cubase 6 - all not Apple products and not iPhoto related - hat questions would best be addressed in the support forums for those products
Even if I remove the Adobe software from my iMAC the iPhoto 11 upgrade will not load any of my photos that were originally on the system
this depends on exactly what you did to "organize" your photos - I'm guessing that you have destroyed your iPhoto library and will have to start over but need more information to be sure
Do you have a backup of your iPhoto library from just before you "organized" your photos?

  • Problems with iPhoto upgrader on iPhoto 7.1.5. HELP!

I installed and ran the iPhoto upgrader for iPhoto 7 in preparation to install a newer version of iPhoto (9 or later) so that i can get photo album and books printed via iPhoto.  I downloaded a number of available iPhoto 9 upgrades, but none worked even through i had run the upgrader.  I am now stuck with a MacBook (OS X 10.7.5) with a version of iPhoto that won't open (error message: You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto) and also wo';t allow me to install any iPhoto upgrades.  Help!  I have tried to restore iPhoto from time machine, but that hasn't worked, plus trying the original install disk for my laptop hasn't worked, presumably because i have upgraded the OS a few times since i got it (it's a late 2008 dinosaur of a macbook!).  I am worried that now i have lost my photos and will have to pay 50 quid for a iLife disk with no guarantee that it will work.  All i really want to do is un-install the upgrader and return iPhoto to it's original 7.1.5 state.  Is that possible? Also how can i check that my photos are still stored somewhere without being able to open iPhoto? Please help! Thank you.

You only need to run the upgrader if you have iPhoto 9.5.  It's not needed for other iPhoto 9 versions, i.e. 9.0 thru 9.4.3.
You might be able to downgrade that library by following this iPhoto LIbrary Manager tutorial: Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto

  • Upgrade to iPhoto '11 on Macbook Air from iPhoto on iBook G4 causing viewing problems

    Hi,
I was using a iBook G4 with iPhoto quite happily until I decided to upgrade. I had my iPhoto Library on my External Harddrive because it was too big for the onboard memory.
I have upgraded to mid 2011 Macbook Air, and attempted to use iPhoto '11, but it stated I had to upgrade all my photos before I could use them. I have done so, and now I can't see most of them in iPhoto.
This photo shows my issue. The files are in the iPhoto Library package, but not showing up in iPhoto. For example, the photo highlighted in iPhoto, I have found in iPhoto Library>Masters>2008>Roll 137>P6200035.jpg as it's original file (the Finder window on the top right), and iPhoto Library>Data>2008>Roll 137>P600035.jpg as what I assume is it's thumbnail (Finder window on bottom right).
I have also found them in iPhoto Library>Originals>2008.... and iPhoto Library>Thumbnails>2008....
I tried repairing the iPhoto Library to no avail. I tried draggin the file into iPhoto, but was met with this dialogue box:
so I tried deleting that particular photo so I could just add it in again, but it  won't let me (cmd and backspace does nothing and moving to trash just gets a error sound.
I have looked through these community forums for answers butthey seem to be from people upgrading their iPhoto software, whereas I am using Iphoto 11 out of the box.
    Thank you.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • I recently upgraded to iPhoto 9.5 and find that the "burn" to CD function is found nowhere. Anyone else have this problem?

I recetly upgraded to iPhoto 9.5 and find that the "burn" function is not available. Has anyone else run into this issue and if so, what did you find? I know that one can burn from the "FInder" but I still want to burn in the iPhoto format.

It's been removed as Apple is no longer adding optical drives to it's computers.  So to burn photos (not iPhoto compatible mini libraries) to a disk you need to export them to a folder on the Desktop via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  and burn that folder to disk via the Finder.
iPhoto 9.5 will not natively read disks created by previous versions.
The following is from this Apple document which describes how to convert the mini libraries on those disks so iPhoto can view them: iPhoto 9.5: Using iPhoto libraries saved to CD or DVD
iPhoto 9.5: Using iPhoto libraries saved to CD or DVD
Learn how to use iPhoto libraries that you saved to CD or DVD in earlier versions of iPhoto.
In iPhoto 9.5 you can use an earlier iPhoto library that you saved to CD or DVD. To do this, first copy the library to your hard drive. Then:
If your iPhoto library on your CD or DVD was created in iPhoto 8.0 or later, iPhoto 9.5 can upgrade your library when you double-click to open it.
If your iPhoto library on your CD or DVD was created in iPhoto 7.0 or earlier, you will first need to use the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool to prepare it for iPhoto 9.5.
UPDATE:  Just went thru the process and the iPhoto Library Upgrader converted the library into a working library that iPhoto could open.  However, if you want to import any of those photos into your working library you'll have to use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to copy the Events or album you want from the converted library into your working library.  An extra 2 steps that we didn't have to do previously.

  • Problems upgrading to iPhoto 9.2.1, count seems to go down and up

I'm upgrading to iPhoto '11 (9.2.1) from iPhoto '09, with a very large library. I'm currently on the 'Updating library...' stage of the process (which it's been on for almost 24 hours), and the number right now says 192164 out of 258687. However, as I watch it, the numbers are actually going down, and then back up:
    192180
    192183
    192179
    192187
    192189
    192192
    192196
    192194
    192195
... and so forth, at the rate of about 1 or 2 changes per second. When it first started, they were going up much more quickly.
Ultimately the numbers do seem to be advancing, but it's like they'll take one step forward, then five or six steps back, then another step forward. It's going incredibly slowly.
Has anybody else had this issue? I'm assuming it will complete, eventually, but I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to speed it up.

There's nothing you can do to speed it up. It just has to run and finish. Don't interrupt it.
    Regards
    TD

  • Can't open my photo library after upgrading to iPhoto 11.  is it possible to load iPhoto 9.0.1 after loading 11?  have followed all other instructions but it still won't let me open iPhoto.

can't open my photo library after upgrading to iphoto 11.  Is it possible to download iphoto 9.0.1 after installing '11.  Have followed all the other instructions and am in a loop which doesn't allow me to access iphoto or my photos.

when iphoto wouldnt open we read the trouble shooting info and it said that we may have needed to download 9.0.1 if we had an older version.  We obviously didn't download it before the upgrade and wondered if it would cause problems or indeed solve the problem if we downloaded it now!
When we try to open iphoto is says:
To open your library with this version of iphoto it first needs to be prepared
To prepare the library use the iphoto library upgrader available from Apple.
We have downloaded this twice now and it still sends us this message when we try to open iphoto.
