Upgrade to Iphoto 6 wiped out all albums

One of my clients upgraded to iphoto 6 and it erased all of his albums (the originals are still in the library, however all of his organized albums are gone).
This also happened to his itunes when he upgraded.
Is there something that can be done to recover these and/ or something to do in the future to avoid it for the next update when its available?
Thanks much,
Logan

Logan:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Does your client still have a copy of the previous library folder? If not then I don't think there's much he can do. They can try rebuilding the library and see if that will help but I don't think it will . The library database file has been damaged. Give it a try anyway. Here's how:
launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three option.
If they do have a copy of the previous library have them try the following:
1 - copy the current library to the Desktop
2 - copy the previous version library folder into the Pictures folder.
3 - download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
4 - launch iPhoto and it should indicate that the library needs updating and proceed.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

The last iPod upgrade wiped out all my apps. Will the IOS6.0.1 do the same?

If you update via iTunes and synced media like apps and music are not in your iTunes library they will be lost.
You can always redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • HT4528 i have a verizon iphone 3G; apple recently upgraded the operating system.  PROBLEM: calendar has wiped out all entries and i am unable to add new entries.  Help!

have verizon iphone 3g; recent upgrade of operating system.  suddenly calendar has wiped out all entries and am unable to add new ones.

Please define "tried to add the Image"?
OS Installer Packages do not point to "images". They point to the complete set of source files including the directory structure from the media.
Is there a specific reason you are using OS Installer packages though? In general, there is no reason to use them anymore (unless you are actually still deploying XP).

  • Can I install new operating system without wiping out all of my programs- some of which were free

Can I upgrade my OS without clearing out all programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, Office, etc as well as all files that I do not want to lose because many of the programs were free and do not have portable storage drive?

You can upgrade the OS without clearing out your programs or files, however that's no guaranty that those programs will continue to work in the new OS.
And if you plan to jump over operating systems, like going from 10.4 to 10.6 or 10.5 to 10.7 that that will require wiping the drive of all programs and installing the new OS fresh.
So perhaps you better start by telling us some details about your present hardware specifications, your computer model (like MacBook Pro 3,1) your OS X version, your RAM amount, your hard drive size, software you absolutely need, others that you can perhaps do without, and what and where you want to go etc. Also if you want to spend money and how much.
You can find out about your machine by Apple Menu>About this Mac>More information.
Your question is rather lacking on details, and people don't update their signatures so we can't go by that.

  • Itunes wiped out all data now ipod is corrupt

I bought my 80g ipod classic in March,08 and have never had problems until two months ago. Several times after disconnecting, I found that itunes wiped out all the songs and video. The first time, I lost over 8000 songs and never realized it until I was in the car on a long road trip. My playlists were gone, 14 movies and many video clips. My pictures and games remained however. Problems continued periodically. Sometimes it would eject immediately after connecting. Then it would connect, but not sync anything. Now itunes will recognize it, but says it needs to be formatted then restored. I didn't want to lose everything, but now it has wiped out games and pics also. It is like I just bought it. I have updated itunes to 8.0 and tried to update my ipod as well. Now it is telling me that it can't be restored and that my ipod is corrupt. This is my second ipod, the first was a 20g with pics and I used and abused it to death and NEVER had a single problem until it just quit working. I have my computer set to update automatically for itunes and this all started right after it completed an update of some kind. I have a 2 year warranty, should I relace it? Also, will I lose all the games I bought?

I just upgraded my itunes and now my IPOD won't play any of my songs. Everything is still ther, will let me navigate etc, but just won't play!
    Very dissapointed!
Worst, i can't get my music off my IPOD now, because ITUNES doesn't allow it. And worst still, when i take it in to get a replacement, they simpy take my IPOD and away and give me a new one.
    I'm seriously put off!

  • My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago (never bothered to fix it as the dvd drive had also failed so not worth it).   Nevertheless, I finally decided to sync my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music

My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago. I finally synced my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music on the phone including most of the purchases. Can I get the music back (restore didn't help)?

Okay, I finally got the couple of songs left on the phone to play by uninstalling and reinstalling itunes on the pc and re syncing. The last version I installed (just prior to my original post) failed to start due to some unspecified error?!?. Great!. But I still couldn't sync the itunes purchases from the PC to the iPhone. Then, after about an hour of googling and reading assorted posts mostly about using google to resolve the issue, I finally figured out that I have to actually download ALL the purchased albums from iCloud back onto the iPhone! There are hundreds of them, and some are not even available anymore.
Why do I have to do that when I originally purchased and downloaded all the music to the phone? Why are they all on the PC to begin with and why won't they go to the phone via the USB cable? Why didn't all the music get wiped out on the phone when I synced with the dodgy itunes I had to uninstall. never mind.
I accept that all my original music from cds and shared collections is gone on the failed mbp hard drive, but how come this once okay experience has become a trauma? Hundreds of songs to download all over again, sheesh, this has not exactlybeen a "That Was Easy" experience guys.

  • Time Machine wiped out all my backups!

This morning, Time Machine wiped out all my existing Time Machine backups and started a new, full backup of my startup drive.. My Time Machine volume was only half full, and I use TimeMachineEditor to schedule backups once a day instead of every hour. Does anyone know what might have caused this to happen?

Not helpful. I've been using TimeMachineEditor for years without any problem whatsoever.
It's true, though... it sounds like something went wrong with Time Machine somewhere, and that's one possibility. Having used it for years without a problem does not mean that trend will continue. There was just an update to that software one week ago, adding Mountain Lion compatibility. Something could have been wrong with the update if you installed it, and if you didn't, you were using it with Mountain Lion without it being compatible.
As for Time Machine's default hourly backups, they can result in spinning beachballs each and every hour
Something else may have been wrong then (instead or in addition). That's not normal.
In any event, there's nothing to be done about the old backups now... they're gone. What I would advise is to stop using TimeMachineEditor (for the time being at least), erase your backup drive and start your backups over from scratch, and make sure that your drive is used in one of the supported configurations (ie, directly connected, connected to a Time Capsule or a shared volume on another Mac on your local network).

  • Upgraded to iphoto 11 and lost all pictures

Perhaps my question has been answered in another area, but I couldn't find it.  I, like others who have upgraded to iphoto 11 have lost all my pictures.  They are not on the new iphoto version nor in any of the picture library files.  Are they gone?  If not, where do I start looking for them?  Never had a problem like this before.  Any Advice?
    Thanks.

What system are you running and what version of iPhoto do you currenty have? How did you perform the upgrade? From an iLife disc or from the App Store?
Is there an iPhoto Library package in your Pictures fodler?  If so what is its size as shown in the Finder?
Is that size large enought to include your photos?

  • I updated my software on my ipad, and it wiped out all my calendar entries.  Is there a way to retrieve them?  My planner is my life and I am feeling totally lost!!!!!

Please Help!!  When I updated my Ipad2 it wiped out all of my calendar entries.  Is there a way to retrieve them?  I have looked in Icloud and itunes and am not finding the calendar there, as it comes on the ipad and is not an app.

Were you syncing calendar events over the air with your iCloud account or syncing calendar events direct with a supported calendar app on your computer via the iTunes sync process?
If your planner is your life, not a good idea to depend on one device for your calendar events. They should be available on your computer as well along with the data included with your computer's backup.

  • How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

You need to find and delete (move to the Trash) the offline mail cache (.offline cache.) It's a hidden folder (files and folders with a preceding dot are hidden) inside the Mail folder (inside IMAP) in your user library. Since it's hidden, in order to see it run the following command in Terminal in Applications>Utilities. Hit return/enter once you have pasted in the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true ; killall Finder
To reverse this and hide all those hidden files and folders again
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false ; killall Finder
Leave hidden files/folders enabled until you finish emptying the Trash so you know it's gone.

  • Hotsync wiped out all my tasks in outlook, PLEASE HELP

I run my business off of all my tasks (microsoft outlook) and I had over 500.
I had a palm 680, and it broke so I bought a new palm TX.
Before I hotsynced, I switched hotsynx preferences to handheld wins.  So it wiped out all my tasks.
I have not hotsynced since, is there any way to recover them?
    Thanks so much in advance!
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Since you was syncing to Outlook I don't believe there is any backup system like there is within palm desktop. Unfortunately your data is probably gone. If it is really sensitive data you may want to contact Microsoft and see if they have a means of recovering it.
