Upgrade to iTunes 6.0.3 uninstalled 6.0.2 but didn't install 6.0.3

I have a 2 year old PC that has only recently been connected to the internet. I downloaded iTunes(6.0.2)to get my CD collection in shape before putting on an iPod. Yesterday I get notification to download new version of iTunes (6.0.3) so I agree. Part way through I get a window that tells me "The iTunes for Windows installer has completed. The installation was interrupted before iTunes could completely install. The system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installation again."
Unfortunately, the shortcuts and the iTunes program have been removed (thankfully my folders and music files are still intact).
It is possible that when I agreed to the iTunes update, Microsoft was in the process of automatically upgrading their terrible media player (I don't know if this contributed to the problem).
I have tried rebooting. I have tried reinstalling iTunes (it always stops in the same place and says it was interrupted). I have tried uninstalling Quicktime, but it too says it was interrupted. I have tried reinstalling just Quicktime, but it too says it was interrupted.
Unfortunately, when I tried a system restore I discovered that this facility has been turned off on my machine, so there are no restore points that I can go to.
Any ideas, please.

many thanks for the report Phil! every little bit of info helps.
I tried a few things, but in the end the simplest thing to do was to uninstall Windows Service Pack 2. Once that was done I was able to reinstall iTunes 6.0.2 without any problems.
good lord ... that's also a workaround for the "publishing product information" quit (we used to use it in advice here prior to the later versions of that KB doc showing up).
more evidence that the beast may have started to come with an error message nowadays ... it's not a 6.0.3.5 thing, though. Katrina has been working with one of those messages that showed up on a 6.0.2.23 install.
i wonder if this is a by-product of a recent Windows Update?

  • Itunes wont open, needs newer version of quicktime, but newest is installed

I installed IMesh a while back and as soon as I did my Itunes refused to open. Everytime I try to open it, it says "Quicktime version 7.1 is installed, Itunes requires Quicktime 7.1.3 or later. Please reinstall Itunes". So then I tried numerous times to reinstall Itunes, uninstall it and then reinstall it, used the installer cleanup thing, and even tried to install Quicktime and Itunes separately - I feel like it's still malfunctioning because of Imesh, even though I deleted iMesh entirely. Please help! I'm absolutely desperate.

okay. let's try swapping out your QuickTime one more time.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • ITunes on Vista... no error message but won't install

I am using Windows Vista and recently had a new harddrive put into my laptop, and am reinstalling programs. I'm having trouble with downloading iTunes. When I get the first window that says "You have chosen to open iTunesSetup.exe" I click Save File and it seems to download, and then that is all it does. There is no error message and when I search through my programs, there is nothing with that title or pertaining to my download. I have tried this several times with the same results. Also I have installed all updates for my laptop and everything is up to date. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome to AD!
Turn off your pop-up blocking software. When you click Save File, a dialogue box is supposed to pop up, asking where you want to save it to. That pop-up is being blocked.

  • I have I phone 5. Somehow I lost my music when trying to find an audio book I had bought on itunes. I tried syncing with my mac but didn't work. I match was switched on . How do I get my music back on my phone? Can anyone help?

I have an iPhone 5. Whilst trying unsuccessfully to find an audiobook I bought from the iTunes Store on my phone, I lost all my music . Now iTunes Match just keeps trying to load, but nothing happens. I still have my music on my ipad and my computer so I tried syncing to get it back on my phone, but that didn't work. Does anyone know what to do please?

turn match off and then sync
    syncing itunes mac
first open itunes on mac computer
At top left you have an apple - itunes- file edit view ect...
go under view and show side bar
go under iTunes and check for updates (11.1.3 current) - update if needed
plug in iphone (or ipad, ipod ect..)
when the device shows up in the sidebar click on the name of device not the arrow
this opens up a summary page
across top says info, apps, music, photos, ect...
click on what you want to sync ie music
check the top box that says sync music select -entire library or selected songs and pick what you want by checking
now apply or sync at bottom
    Peace, Clyde

  • HT1338 Itunes 11 & Mac OS X 10.7 downloaded, but won't install. I get message "folder cannot be created"

I've downloaded updates for iTunes & Mac OS X 10.7. But they won't install.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The latest iTunes version is 11.0.1 version. 11.0.2 does not exist. Have you tried opening Apple menu > Software Update and install iTunes 11.0.1? If it doesn't show up, you have already iTunes 11.0.1

  • ITunes says it can't read my data, but restoring will install iOS4

    Hi,
I've only recently purchased my 8gb iPod Touch, and am on my second one at the moment. I had to take the first one back in less than a day after I purchased it because iOS4 completely crashed it. Nothing could fix it.
Anyway, just recently the new iPod hasn't been connecting to iTunes properly. iTunes can find it but it says it can't read the data and it needs to restore it to the factory settings. I wouldn't have a problem with this normally, however when I go to restore, iTunes says that restoring will also install the iOS4 software, which ruined my last iPod Touch.
I really don't know what to do. Sooner or later I'm going to need to put more things on and take things off...I'm too scared to try and install iOS4 again and I've been told Apple won't help you if your iPod dies as a result of iOS4..
Does anyone know how I can fix this without installing iOS4?
    Much appreciated..

mine is doing the same thing other than Itunes saying it can't read the format. I can't play 90% of my music. I took it to an apple store the other day an they told me only purchased music will work. Not even a music upload from a CD. Which to me is a load of ....because my wife has all the songs on her iphone that are greyed out on mine and they work on hers

  • Can't upgrade to Itunes Plus.  I keep getting error message 1004:  An unknown error occured.  There was an error in the itunes Store.  Please try again later.  Can anyone help?

I can't upgrade to iTunes Plus.  I can download songs normally but when I try to upgrade I continue to get the error message.  Please help.
    Thank you!

If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
    open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    followed by Enter.
    launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
    3 - try again.

  • Help! - I upgrade to itunes 6.0 and all my music disappeared

I've had itunes for I while and I had a fair amount of music on it. My computer has been asking my for a while if I wanted to upgrade to itunes 6.0 and I always said no, but recently I did it. Now all of my music is gone except for the last two songs I ordered from the online music store. Can I get my music back? Or how can I at least not do this again? I didn't read any warnings whatsoever. I assumed "update" the program features would be updated but all the music files would be retained.
    heeeeelp.

First of all, this will occasionally happen after an upgrade. Your music is NOT gone, as iTunes does not store your music, your hard drive does. iTunes only holds the file paths in order to reference the songs by. Now, you will simply need to add them back over. Very simple, do this:
Click on File on the iTunes Task bar
Click Add Folder to library and add your iTunes folder back over.
It won't take but just a second.

Ok, so are you on a different carrier now?  IF you are, how did you get your phone unlocked from the original carrier?
Or are you still with the same carrier?

  • When I upgraded to win 7 I was told to uninstall iTunes and its helper programs. Now when I try to install it I get this message that it's not part of the original program.

When I upgraded to Windows 7 I was told to uninstall iTunes and its helper services. Now when I try to install it I get a message that says "the files I'm trying to install are not native to this program. Is this being blocked by Windows 7 security that I'm not used to. I'm not using the Windows firewall. How do I find what process is doing the blocking. Any ideas would sure help. Rex

I understand where you are coming from.  I had the Ultimate Tier at one point, but I didn't watch alot of those channels so I downgraded.
Another problem with changing my tier back up to Ultimate is that I was told I would lose the discounts associated with the package I have now.  The discounts won't transfer to the new package and they can't give me an equal amount of discounts with a new package. At least with the Sports Pass, it is an add on like HBO, so you can cancel at anytime with no penalties or changes to your plan.
Verizon does advertise the Sports Pass on its website.  Here are the channels.  The only ones I would be interested in would be beIN and ESPN Classic, since I will be losing that channel sometime in May since I only have the Extreme tier.
    beIN Sports HD
    CBS Sports Network
    ESPN Buzzer Beater HD
    ESPN Goal Line HD
    ESPN Classic
    HRTV
    Longhorn Network (Outside of Texas)
    Outdoor Channel SD/HD
    Sportsman Channel
    TVG
    World Fishing Network SD/HD

Which particular .msi file (or files) does the message (or messages) go on to say cannot be found? (Several different .msi files might be mentioned in this context: itunes.msi, bonjour.msi, AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, etc.)
