Upgrade to iTunes to 10.4.0.80 caused 100% CPU usage when I start iTunes. Task manager shows iTunes 50% mobile 50%. I am running Windows XP Professional sp3. iPhone 3 ios 4.3.5
I upgrade to iTunes 10.4.0.80. Since then iTunes uses 50% of the CPU and Mobile uses 50% CPU. I let it run for hours and the CPU usage stayed at 100%. The phone will partially sync but takes a very long time. This was not a problem before the iTunes upgrade. I am running iTunes on Windows XP professional SP3. It does not matter if the phone is connected to the USB port of the PC. When iTunes starts it runs the CPU at 100%.
Yes! I am not the only one with this problem. Ever since the latest iTunes update, the CPU runs up to 100% using both the mobiledevice and itunes itself. The store won't work either! I'm also on Windows XP. I too have tried everything I can think of but nothing has helped. I really hope they get an update out with fixes soon. This is really annoying!!

Then it's time to call Apple tech support while you are still under warranty. Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase. actually i noticed the problem in the first place when cheching the task manager. 97% itunes 3% taskmanager.
i wish i could know what all those other tasks are and end them (some are obvious but other arent), but it wouldnt solve my problem.

Task Manager shows iTunes (32-bit) not (64-bit) - bug?
I have installed iTunes using the 64-bit installer on Windows 8.1 64-bit. When I run the Task Manager it says iTunes (32 bit) - with a subheading underneath saying iTunes. Why doesn't it say iTunes (64-bit).
If this is a bug it needs Apple to correct it.
I cannot find an easy way to submit a bug (another thing Apple needs to fix - should be 1-click to submit a trouble ticket with priority).No, that's normal. The 64-bit version of ITunes is a mix of 64-bit and 32-bit componentry. The itunes.exe process runs 32-bit on 64-bit systems.

ITunes causes 90% CPU usage when the info window scrolls the song title
What's up with that little info window under the iTunes title? When the song title exceeds the width of the window iTunes does a little right to left banner scroll of the text. Whenever this happens the CPU jumps to 90% and stays there. This is especially bad for radio stations that have long text message strings in their titles. I have to keep iTunes minimized to avoid this GUI bug.
This just started happening with iTunes 7 and 7.0.1
Windows XPiTunes on MBP in miniplayer mode and streaming to airport express. Wife changes songs through iPad remote and the CPU spikes to 90% and stays there. If I then select regular window mode, the CPU drops back to 7-8% (where it was before song change). It doesn't happen if I change songs through the MBP iTunes, only through the iPad remote. It's like it starts a process and doesn't close it out.
There's a couple of different things that can be going on here. Let's check on the one that involves the Mini Player first.
It seems to happen when the main iTunes player is set to Cover Flow rather than List view.
If you set iTunes to List view prior to switching to the Mini Player, does that stop the excessive CPU use while in Mini Player? -
when itunes upgraded my laptop went to 100% cpu usage. only solution was uninstall. have tried itunes again as my daughter wants the new ipad. still same problem tho so not keen to spend £400 on new pad without pc support. anyone help? (ps been using ipod touches 1 and 2, been great source of pleasure for my two girls, but cant sync them, so using the little shuffles for music, syncing to an old version of itunes on an old netbook - had the sense to switch off upgrades when the new version went wrong)
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Having trouble when I launch iTunes (version 11.0.2) on my Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional (service pack 1). I get an error message indicating software required to communicate with iPod and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you? I normally respond with OK and it immediately tells me "could not be repaired. Please reinstall iTunes..." I have done this a number of times to no avail.
I also notice Quicktime is not getting installed at all.
That one is normal nowadays (ever since the iTunes versions 10.5.x).
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?

I have a Macbook Pro that I have just renewed and transferred over my old hard drive (also from a Macbook Pro). Now when I turn on the computer and ITunes opens I get error (-50) and then error 5002 when I try to sign in to ITunes Store - Help!

100% CPU usage during downloads in iTunes 7
Wow, ever since I installed iTunes 7, my CPU stays pegged at almost 100% utilization during iTunes downloads. Downloading podcasts, songs, video, etc. all cause the CPU usage spike.
Running 2.26 Ghz P4 with 1 Gb RAM, 200 GB HD.
Even when I'm only getting about 200K/sec in data, CPU is pegged. Machine becomes very sluggish. Once the download is complete, CPU usage goes back to close to 1-3%.
Any ideas?
Dell Dimension 2400 Windows XP Pro Mac Mini PowerPCI had to revert back to version 6.05. iTunes 7 on XP is unusable. I used to browse the web and do other productive things while my podcasts were downloading. Now the CPU is pegged so high, that I can barely get the machine to respond.
I installed iTunes 7 on my 1.42 GHz Power PC Mac Mini with only 512 Mb RAM. Downloading 3 large video podcasts at one time only pushes the CPU to 60%. One large download is around 20%. The machine is totally usable while downloading.
Looks like they got the Mac OS X version right and the XP version way wrong!
I'm sticking with version 6.05 on XP until they can fix these usability issues. -
