Upgrade to IWork Pages

I'm looking for a page layout program similar to MS Publisher. I have AW and was thinking of upgrading to iWork Pages. Does this seem like a good strategy? Or is there a better solution for page layout?

You're not going to find laypout program similar to MS publisher, what you will find are a whole lot better.
As you are running a G4 iBook you are commited to using OS10, so your options are, AW, iWork, Qwark and inDesign.
Now it depends on what funds you have availabe.
Of the four inDesign is top dog - a significant (and influential) number of the mainstream magazines publishers in the UK have switched over to it. Its learning curve is steep, but not as steep as Quarrk's
Quark was the top dog untill ID2 started nibbling and then started taking great chunks out of its user base.
The Pages part of iWork is new. It's very capable. As yet I don't know what its limits are as I haven't had enough time on it.
Finally you already have AW in your iBook so you don't need to spend any money.
The DTP possibilites with AW are up to you. there's very little in the way of templates (unlike MSP which appears to be based around templates) so you have to work it out your self.
In practical terms I recon the AW is good for between 12 -16 pages. Some have pushed it further but I tend not to - normally I stop at 8 - and then go to indesign.
The only thing that is really missing from AW is an Impostion feature (but then there isn't one in inDesign or Qwirk either)

I recently upgraded to iWork v9.0.3, but when I access each applications the versions are different (i.e. Pages V.4.1, Numbers V2.6, Keynote V5.1.1) with a install date of 3/18/09 -- which is not the current install date of 2 weeks ago. Why?

Shouldn't Pages, Numbers, and Keynote show version 9.?? My MAC confirned installation of v9.0.3 and even accepted the software code. With this discrepancy, how can I determine if the latest was installed and operational? I even downloading v9.0.4, 9.0.5, and 9.1. When I tried installing these downloads it popped up note stating that a later version of Keynote was already installed.

You used the data. Verizon can not see what it was sued for. However your phone can see whats apps used the data. go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle. line the dates up with your cycle. then there will be a bar graph below that extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right. after those are extended below that will be a list of apps, there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar

Cannot upgrade to iWork 9.0.3 running os 10.6.8

I cannot get iWork ’09 to upgrade using Software Update.
I am running 10.6.8.
iWorks is installed in /Applications/iWork '09. I have changed neither the name or location of the initial install.
My specific problem is that pages will no longer open the word documents it once would (.doc, docx).
I had a hard drive fail, and had to reinstall the os and applications. So, basically, before hard drive fail, running os 10.6.8, I had no problems reading word documents with Pages 4.0.3. Now, after rebuild, I cannot get pages to update from version 4.0.
Initially, I updated Pages to 4.0.3 under os 10.5.8. Then I upgraded the os to 10.6.8. But after the rebuild, starting with 10.6.3, I’m having problems...
Help appreciated.

The fix was to manually upgrade to iWorks 9.0.4. Problems solved.

Upgraded my iWorks Apps--now my old iCloud documents are gone?

I recently upgraded my iWorks suite to the newest version on my Macbook Pro. Now when I go to Pages and try and open something from iCloud, all my documents are gone. They aern't visiblue on iCloud.com either. What happened to them?

Sure, no problem.
Before the IOS 8 update, Apple's offsite file storage system for iWork was called "iCloud". I had dozens of Numbers files stored on this system.
Under the new IOS/Yosemite regime, the offsite file storage system for iWork (and now all kinds of other files, too) is called "iCloud Drive".
When I upgraded my iPad Mini to IOS 8, I selected "Upgrade to iCloud Drive" instead of "Not Now" because I accepted the fact that I would only be able to access my iWork documents on my Mini and the iCloud web interface, but NOT my Macbook (running Mavericks).
But now it looks like my Numbers files were not migrated for some reason. They are not available on my iPad Mini or the iCloud browser interface.
I called my wife at home to have her boot up the MacBook and try to access a few important Numbers files. She was able to open them and save a copy of each of them to the Macbook's local hard drive. So I guess my most urgent problem has been contained (I think I may have access to my Numbers files on my laptop), but it is still an open question why all my Pages files migrated from (the old) "iCloud" to (the new) "iCloud Drive" and my Numbers files didn't.
Clear as mud?

Does upgrading to new pages on iPad remove older version of pages. In other words, after upgrading will I be able to open older Pages documents on the iPad?

I took a while to figure this out after I got into the same mess. The new iWorks is a very bad downgrade. I have deleted Pages 5 from my Mac and gone back to Pages 4.3 (it is still there and was not removed when you updated to Pages 5.)
I then deleted Pages 2 from my iPad and from iTunes.
I used TIme Machine to go back to ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications in September and found "Pages 1.7.2.ipa" and brought it forward to my desktop. I then droped it into the iTunes icon in the Dock and it reinstalled.
Hope this works for you.
Apple can now take as long as they need to correct all the mistakes they made with the current version of iWorks - I will not be upgrading again until they do.

In iWork Pages 5.1, how do I eliminate the word "text" which appears in the Text Box, when I've used a color filler and no words?

Select the text and delete.
If you don't want text in the box, don't use a text box ie in Shapes there are various shapes. Select one without 'T'.

Can't open com.apple.iwork.pages..alt-document

Just updated my iMac to Mavericks along with from iWork '09 to the newest Pages (5.2), Numbers (3.2) and Keynote (6.2). Somehow the vast majority of all my iWork documents got converted to "com.apple.iwork.pages.alt-document". Nothing but Preview will open them. Same for the Numbers documents. For instance, when I try to open the Pages Document called "Cleaning Requirements", I get a pop-up box that says... "\U201CCleaning Requirements\U201Dcan\U2019t be opened." I've right-clicked on the document and tried to open it with the older iWorks Pages app (4.3) with no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...

Did any Pages '09 files translate successfully?
Do you still have your original files? You will be much better off continuing working in Pages '09 even if you did not have these problems, Pages 5.2 is a PITA.

My iWork (pages and keynote) are not communicating with the iCloud. I haven't changed anything and all of the sudden there is no sync happening. My iCloud account is fine as i can create documents on my iPad and they appear on iCloud.

However, when i change documents on my mac (documents that are supposed to be in the iCloud), the changes do not sync with my other devices nor with iCloud. Even when i create new documents on my mac and save them to iCloud, all seems okay and i can access them from my mac, however they do not show up in the iCloud and i can't access them with my other devices.
Most recent version of mountain lion updated over a month ago. New iPad in use for over a month.

Spell check function in my iworks pages does not work, how do I fix this?

I have a new IMac (intel) and I am struggling learning to use the ipage part of the iwork suite. There does not appear to be a spell check feature working, since I'm trying to create some new documents, this is a real hassle. And does anyone know how to do a cut and paste of images from the web. I'm doing a presentation, have permission to use the photos and can't get it to work!! sigh I beginning to think I should have paid the xtra bucks and bought the window suite version, at least I know where they hid the bells and whistles in that one.

If there is an image on a website you want to use locally on your computer usually just dragging the image from the web page anywhere on your desktop is enough to copy the image. You can then drag the image from the desktop anywhere you want.
Alternatively you can right-click (or hold down the control key and regular click on the image) on the image and then choose "Copy Image. You can then perform an Edit > Paste into a Pages document for example.

So the "Rename" command is not supposed to work? It is a dead link and crashes Pages.
Where did Pages save the file that I wanted to put into the folder of related documents. Please bring back "save as" or ask where we want the file saved. How else can I find it later?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iWork has got a version for Mac and another for iOS. You have purchased iWork for Mac, so you can install it for free in all your Macs, but you haven't purchased iWork for iOS.
You have to purchase iWork because the iPhone and iPad use a different operating system than the Mac and there are different versions
