Upgrade to Lion issues: Missing launchpad icon

I upgraded to Lion recently but I cannot find the launchpad icon. I checked as well the Keyboard shortcuts and it still shows me "Dashboard and Dock" as opposed to "Launchpad and Dock". Can someone please help?

Do you have, or can you get, a Lion installer. If yes, then try for a fix by doing a repair install of Lion. If you don't have the installer, then see if you can download the installer by going to the App Store and holding down the "Option" key while selecting "Purchased." If you see "install" on the Lion line, then you can download by selecting "Install." If you get the installer, then do the repair install by running the installer from within the deficient Lion installation. For more on the repair install process, check this link out. Be sure and read about my test of the repair-install procedure on Lion on page 2. Be sure you are backed up adequately.

Since upgrading to Maverick some of my application icons are missing from Launchpad. The name is there but not the icon. Does anyone know why and how to fix it.

Have you checked in AppStore under Purchases and do you find the same in your Applications folder?

  • Upgrade to Lion causes menu bar icons to delay loading on startup

    Hi everyone.
I upgraded to OSX Lion and my only issue so far has been after a restart the airport icon and battery/power (time remaining icon) do not load in the menu bar for anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute after the desktop has loaded.  I will be get an IP address and establish a connection but I am unable to use the airport menu bar prefrences until the after I wait for the icon to load.  It's rather annoying when I need to select a particular wi-fi SSID after startup.
Completed PRAM reset, disk repair, and disk utility verification.
    Any ideas?

  • Upgrade to Lion issues

After upgrading, I'm experiencing a lot of issues. I want so badly to enjoy this new software but its becoming more of a headache.
    1.  For starters, when my computer screen saver comes on there's a slow response to get the log in screen to appear. I have to press several buttons and move my mouse around just to get it to wake up, then it shows up one pixel at a time.
    2.  Safari, I normally use Firefox but I love the page swipe so I switched over to Safari. I'm having issues with the response time, Safari lags and usually takes a minute or two just to recognize the command.  (switching websites)
    3.  Then on top of that, I think resume is a great feature for some, but I turned the feature off and its still saving the pages. It takes 3 minutes just to log in and then 3 to 5 minutes to load all of the previous webpages.  With the slow response from Safari, the last thing I want to do is save my previous websites.
    4.  Mission Control...... nice feature but very slow in response.
    I have a 2008 iMac, with 4GB of RAM
Overall I'm not happy with the new upgrade and I'm thinking about going back to Snow Leopard.

  • I upgraded to Lion, Excel won't open, and what is "Solver" found in the "Launchpad"?

I upgraded to Lion last night, I have Mac OX X 10.7.1 and all other Microsoft Office products (Word & PowerPoint) work just fine, but within the "Launchpad" of Lion, there is an icon called "Solver).  When I click on it, the Excel - icon opens up but the program does NOT, and something called "Solver" (found in the Launchpad) also opens up but immediately shuts down, showing an error.  WTH???

    Hello jburrett,
From what you are describing it sounds like iTunes thinks the files are there, but they are missing or have been relocated. Use this article to locate the files.

  • Upgraded to Lion missing Remote Desktop

I'm running 10.8.1 and after I upgraded to Lion remote desktop is missing (this is a work computer so i'm unsure if ARD was there to begin with, but there was some related files i found poking around in the termial). I've tried installing many different versions but during the install i get an error with a caution on my harddrive telling me I need 10.7 or later. I've also tried various walk arounds for this issue like extracting the app and adding it to hdd and trying a software update, but no updates are found. I managed to get to a serial input window with version 3.6 but from what i understand this should be part of the Lion install. I'm not sure what to do at this point. i'm using a mac-mini server if that helps. Please give me some suggestions.

Apple Remote Desktop (Client) is built into Mac OS X. As such, it is normal to find file on the computer assocheated with Apple Remote Deskop. To check if Apple Remote Desktop (client) is enabled on your computer, you can go to: Apple Menu, System Preferences, Sharing, Remote Management. If Remote Management is checked then your computer may be configure to allow remote access to the computer.
Because Apple Remote Desktop (Client) is built-in, you would not need to install the client. Trying to install the client would result in an error message; because it's already installed.
You can check for Apple Remote Desktop (Client) updates, and other system updates, by clicking apple menu, and choosing check for software updates.
If you want to be able to Remotely Connect to other computers from the server, or from another computer using Apple Remote Desktop, then you would need a copy of Apple Remote Desktop 3. The current vertion of Apple Remote Desktop, for 10.8, can be purchased, and then downloaded, through the App Store. (apple menu, app store)
Apple Remote Desktop 3 is not included with lion, or lion server, it is a sperate purchased in the app store.
If you need to remote into many computers on your local network (not over the internet) then Apple Remote Desktop 3 may be an effective product to do so.
If you want to connect to one or many other computers over the internet then you may want to look into other solution.
If you want to connect just remotely to the server, and only the server, from the local network, then you may want to consider using VNC, it's built into  Mac OS X.

  • Audio issues on Mid-2010 Mac mini upgraded to Lion

I'm using a Mid-2010 Mac mini that came with Snow Leopard but I recently upgraded it to Lion. Every app works pretty well except for audio playback. Whenever I play a game or play a movie, audio stutters every 8 to 10 seconds for like a sec and it comes back in. Video keeps playing fine. It's pretty annoying since I can't properly play games or watch movies anymore. The rest of my apps are working very well except for Boxer which seems to have taken a performance hit.
Currently, the hardware hasn't been upgraded in any other way - meaning it still has the original 2 GB RAM memory. It's connected to my HDTV via HDMI. It didn't manifest this issue until the upgrade to Lion.
I've tried closing every app but it doesn't seem to help. Hope you can help me out. Thanks!!

You need a newer model Mac to use AirDrop between an iOS device (e.g. iPad) and a Mac
    System Requirements
To see if your Mac works with AirDrop, make sure you’re in the Finder by clicking the desktop (the background area of your screen), or by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, check to see if AirDrop is listed as an option in the Go menu. If you don't see AirDrop listed, your Mac doesn't support this feature.
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector
your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed
your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed
Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.
To transfer files between two Mac computers, you need the Mac models listed below with Wi-Fi turned on and OS X Lion or later installed.
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)

  • Since upgrading to Lion, iDVD does an unexpected end when I click the burn icon ... ?

I'm trying to burn an iDVD project to a DVD-R disk and each time I click the Burn icon, iDVD goes into an unexpected end and closes.  I burned this project numerous times before upgrading to Lion, with no issues.  Anyone have any ideas on a solution?  I'm running iDVD version 7.1.2 on a MacBook Pro

Thanks again but I have no peripheral devices connected. It's very annoying whenever I close the lid the logo stays lit and the computer does not go to sleep (light on front stays solid white). Each time it happens I have to open and close the lid 3-4 times before it finally goes to sleep. It's as if the computer gets hung up trying to go to sleep.

I don't know exactly what the issue is, but I think I do. Are you talking about what happens when you start up your MBP, full brightness, with power cable in - and when you're using battery only, the brightness dims? If so, this is a feature designed to make sure your monitor is bright enough while using batteries - but not so bright as to cause an undue drain on power.
I don't know about a cure to this issue, if indeed this is what you're talking about.

  • I had thousands of photos in my iPhoto   when i upgraded to Lion. I could not find them anywhere.  Where am i not looking for my missing photos ?

Thousands of photos are missing ever since I upgraded to Lion. Please tell me they are hidden somewhere and not lost

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance

  • Forward and reply icons not showing since upgrade to lion and cloud account

The forward and reply icons (the arrows) are now usually not appearing after an email has been forwarded or replied to by me.  This all began after upgrade to Lion (no problem in snow leopard).  Anyone know a fix?  Spoke with apple on the phone, but they could not resolve the issue.  Thanks

Assuming you are using Safari for iCloud.com....
    Go to ~ / Library / Caches / com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash and restart your Mac.
    Login to iCloud.com.

For LIon:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • Upgrading to Lion, used cloud, now my apple mail no longer syncs on my computer. Can't get any apple mail to come in. Mail window not working properly. Connection to Internet fine. Anyone know how to fix this issue? All worked fine until I opted for Cloud

    Hello,
I am using a MacBook Pro. Bought in April 2011. Upgraded to Lion, OSX 10.7.3
I have an Apple mail account that synced with a gmail account in my Mail Program.
I then chose the CLOUD activation. I can find my mail if I go to cloud.com but I no longer get any Apple mail delivered to my Mail program on my computer. My gmail account syncs just fine. In fact, the Mail program doesn't even open any longer when I double click. I have to go to the Mail menu, select Message Viewer to even view my mail program now. The Internet connection is testing fine using the Connection Doctor. But when the Connection Doctor program just whirs for eternity and never finishes checking the accounts.
Is this a bug? Do you have to set up your mailbox again for Apple mail to get it to sync after having mail hosted on the Cloud? Or does hosting on the Cloud mean I now always have to go the hassle of logging in at the cloud site to even access my Apple mail?
Any ideas out there? I am sure there are Mac geniuses, the real ones, floating around in cyber space and would love to get some intelligent directions to solve this new issue.
    Cheers
    Anne

I would like to add that Comcast is my internet provider. Perhaps that is part of the issue although the Connection Doctor confirms the mail box is connecting to the internet. No other function processes when Connection Doctor program is used to find the source of the issue. I have read forum posts but am unable to find a way to get my Apple mail to be delivered to my computer. It worked fine up until I chose to transfer mail to the Cloud. My mail account is a .mac account.
Still hoping someone out there can help me.
    thanks,
    anne

  • After upgrading to Lion, Preview (5.2.2) appears to have lost the facility to run a slide show by using my mouse to click an icon in the visible menu bar, as I could in the previous version.  Can I retrieve that icon and thus that facility?

Unfortunately not. Lion has made many adjustments to the previous system. Try opening your pdfs in keynote.

  • IOS 8 upgrade and now missing airplay icon

I use AirPlay to stream music from both iTunes and Pandora on my iPhone 5 to an AirPort Express.  After upgrading to iOS 8, I no longer have an AirPlay icon in Control Center.  The AirPort Express and the iPhone 5 are both connected to the same network.  The AirPort Express is very new (purchased new from Apple within the past 90 days).  It all worked great before upgrading to iOS 8

    APPLE...
The problem of a missing AirPlay icon and missing AirPlay devices has not yet been fully resolved. The variations I've seen (on an iPad 4) are
    1) There is NO AirPlay icon, only AirDrop
    2) The AirPlay icon is there but when you open its popup the local device (iPad) displays at the top of the list followed by one other device. If you now wait the shown device scrolls sideways and shows another available device
    3) The AirPlay icon is displayed and its popup window contains a current list of all available streaming devices. This is what we want!
HInt: Possibly there is something going on concerning the streaming capabilities of the available AirPlay devices. I've noted that my AppleTV is usually first up when devices start to appear and this offers picture and sound streaming (also screen cloning from suitable devices). After this the audio only streaming devices appear.
APPLE PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS !
