Upgrade to Logic 9

I am using logic 8 on a Power mac G5/ OS X(10.4.11).Does somebody know whether I can upgrade it to Logic 9 without upgrading the operating system to Leopard?

An upgrade directly to SnowLeopard from Tiger should be possible, Apple supports that.
But NOT for your Power Mac G5! PowerPC based computers are no longer supported with SnowLeopard.

I have lost my serial number for my logic 8. I have the box and discs but seem to be missing the crucial bit. Anyway, I only found out as I am trying to upgrade to Logic 9 which i just bought and it needs the serial number for 8 as well.
How can I go about finding it or getting a new one etc.

  • Will upgrading to osx mountain lion upgrade my Logic Pro 9.1.6 to 9.1.7?

I wanna know if upgrading m computer to osx mountain lion will upgrade my Logic Pro to it's current update to 9.1.7.
I wanna upgrade to the new osx im worried if it will update all my software as well

First, you can (and should) always back up your copy of Logic before updating, that way you can always go back to the earlier version if you need it.  If you do that you might as well update to the latest version of Logic.
Going to 10.8 won't update Logic, but you'd probably want to update Logic (and most other apps) to the newest versions if you do a major OS update like that.

  • Upgrading to Logic 9 from 8

    Hello all,
I am wondering if anyone has had any issues when upgrading to Logic 9 from 8.  I need to first upgrade to 10.6.2 from 10.4.11 and then upgrade my Logic program. Will this be a good match for my computer?  I am using a MacBook Pro dual processor from 2006

    Any suggestions  about looping devices?
There are quite a few different ways of achieving looping effects, though - Logic's Tape Delay can be used with the Freeze button turned on at the bottom left hand corner. You can create something in that kind of way with other fx added and then bounce it down to an audio file when you think you've got it right and use that bit as part of your whole arrangement.
I'd loved to have had Mainstage about 20 years ago when I used to be gigging, but I've only had a quick look at it, since its secondary to the main things I want to do now.
You probably want to find something with Ableton now that you can work with.

  • Where can i find the upgrade from logic pro 7.1.1 to 7.2?

    Hello there.
Is the upgrade from logic pro 7.1.1 to 7.2 still available out there somewhere? I know I'm a bit behind the rest of the world but financially I'm taking the 'do the best with what you can' route!
Never used logic before, moving up from garageband and cubase sx cos everyone says it's a better program.
    Many thanks,
    GDx

    Hi
If I remember correctly, the 7.2 update was a "Paid for" update, with a new dvd.... so you are most likely out of luck.
The good news is that Logic Pro is pretty cheap on the Appstore

  • How do I update/upgrade from Logic Pro 8 to 9?

How do I update/upgrade from Logic Pro 8 to 9?

There is no update, you have to purchase Logic 9 from the App Store, it's $199, which is close to the price of an update.
Warning, if you do purchase Logic 9 from the App store it will download 2GB of additional patches/sounds/loops...etc. This is for first time buyers so their App Store Logic will have some basics to work with before trying to download the additional 20+GB of loop/instrument data. If you have a full installtion of Logic 8 it's possible the 2GB of data Logic initially downloads will mess with the instruments and sounds you've been using, past projects may not load properly. Just something to be aware of.

  • HT1338 I am a student, and I purchased Logic Pro 9 nine or ten months ago, can I download a free upgrade to Logic Pro X?

    Hi,
I am a student, and I purchased Logic Pro 9 nine or ten months ago, can I download a free upgrade to Logic Pro X? It seems I should be able to.
If not, how much would it cost me? Does anybody know?
    Thank you,
    Michael McCarty

Thank you QTKirk... do you happen to know if Apple has a student discount for Logic Pro X? It seems to me I received one on Logic Pro 9... Getting old, could be wrong about that.

  • Is it worth upgrading from Logic Express 8?

Seems to do everything I need. I already own all the jam packs. What are the "must have" things that I will get for dropping $200? If it is worth it, I'll upgrade. Most of my recording is MIDI, some acoustic and electric guitars and vocals. I also would like to create sheet music.
    Thanks

Well, if you're serious about wanting to achieve something, then an upgrade to Logic 9 from Express 8 will definitely be a good thing.
I originally got into Logic using Express at version 7/8, but there really are a good set of features that have been introduced in 9 that are genuinely useful to most people.
Features are only 'must have' if you think you need them for a specific purpose - the improvements are pretty basic, but enable you to work better - bouncing in place, creating a new sampler instrument from an audio region, for example, are great ways of doing what I want in a pretty more efficient way than I used to.

I have checked both the resource folders, and made backups from Logic pro 9, but its not recognizing them, or saying that they're missing a bunch of samples.
    What do i do?

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this). For items not included in the iCloud list, or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.

  • No free upgrade for Logic 7 purchased 2 weeks ago (august 27)

I purchased Logic Express 7 on August 27 (16 days ago). I just contacted the apple store via online chat, and here is the transcript. I'm feeling seriously ripped off at the moment.
    * You are chatting with Caissa, an Apple Expert
Hi, my name is Caissa. Welcome to Apple!
    Caissa: Good evening
Caissa: How may I help you today?
    You: Hi.
You: I purchased Logic Express 7 on August 27, and Logic Express 8 just came out.
You: It would be most distressing if I don't get a free upgrade.
You: How do I get my upgrade to logic express 8?
Caissa: At this time there is no free upgrade available.
Caissa: You would need to purchase the new suite.
    You: That is terrible.
You: As a new apple user, I must register my deepest dissatisfaction.
    Caissa: Sorry to hear that.
    *

Today I summoned the zen patience to call Apple and complain, and they did help me. I explained that not only had I bought LE7 since 8/1, I had also bought my first mac since 8/1. Although I had to wait on hold for 15 minutes for Applecare, and then get transferred to "customer care" (another 7 minutes on hold), they agreed to send me the upgrade for free. I didn't get a refund of the price difference (perhaps I should have asked; that was not offered). I'm prepared to write off the "overpayment", since I'm not being charged for the upgrade.
FYI, one thing that they seem to have taken seriously, besides the above -- I was experiencing frequent system hangs (screeen grays out a bit and says to hold down the power button a few seconds to kill the system). Apparently the stability problems I was having with LE7 are known to Apple. This angle might work for customers who bought long before the new release...
Thanks for the friendly suggestions. I hope this may help somebody else avoid feeling ripped off. The "stop whining" crowd, though that position is not entirely without merit, can still bite me ;-p

I own Logic Pro 7( I used to have a PowerPC  and need to upgrade to Logic Pro 9 (new Intel chip, system 10.8) .  Do I need to buy a whole new set or do I upgrade for less cost?

The cost of the Full Logic Pro 9 from the App Store is less than the cost of the discontinued Boxed Upgrade set for Logic Studio (if you could find one) ... so you might as well purchase the full Logic Pro 9 from the App store and be done.

  • I had to trash pref files when upgrading to Logic 9

Started with Logic 7 three years ago...
So yesterday I upgraded to Logic 9 from 8, and I had two unusual problems.
First, when I would record a track, the waveform overview wouldn't draw. It would make the blue box, with a line down the middle, and I had audio, but no visible waveform. If I manually prompted Logic to redraw it, it would...
But then on subsequent tracks they wouldn't have a waveform either. Now it's pretty common for Logic to ignore rendering these while you're actually recording something. It's focused on getting your audio on the drive... but as soon as you stop, it will immediately display your waveform and that wasn't happening.
I also was getting a "disk too slow message". I was recording to an internal drive and I have recorded multiple tracks simultaneously with Logic 8, so a single voice track shouldn't have made a difference.
Repairing permissions seems to have stopped the "disk too slow message", and as far as the waveform overview, I trashed the pref files. (Logic will make new ones when you relaunch it) That seems to have fixed the issue.
I went through something similar when they came out with 8. I actually had to delete the old program and do a complete re-install.
Having gone through that, which isn't much... Logic 9 looks really good. Some great new features...
Here's a question: How can we get Apple to give us a .pdf manual? Is there someplace we can put in the request?
Based on what I've seen, that's the biggest disappointment everyone has!

  • Install logic 9 upgrade from logic 7  on macbook pro retina

i bought a new MBP retina, (no disc drive) and want to install logic. my logic studio 9 is an upgrade from logic pro 7, and the 7 won't run on the new com.
So how do I do this install?

Could be you khave a corrupted Win 7 install file/files.
Try downloading the Win 7 ISO for the version you have from here.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/download-windows-7-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit- direct-download-links/
Then burn that ISO to a USB or DVD, USB would be better.

  • Upgraded to Logic 7.2; own Digidesign mix plus...now what?

Is anybody running a Logic 7.2-centered studio using something other than digidesign HD hardware? I'd love to hear about it!
I'm at a turning point - THE most important tool to me is Logic Pro, but I've been using a Mix Plus system for a few years as my main audio interface, although I do very little multitracking usually, other than guitar & horns. I want to start recording drums and strings though. I finally upgraded from Logic 6.4 to 7.2 and upgraded to OS 10.4.6 so I could use iZotope Radius, but didn't know that I couldn't use the digidesign stuff with this latest software.
Since I'm mainly a Logic user (as opposed to Pro Tools software) I'm thinking about throwing the mix plus system on a different computer and picking up an RME interface or maybe the new Symphony by Apogee to use with my main setup. I could also bite the bullet and move up to digi HD, but I'm really hesitant to dump big bucks into more Digidesign stuff.

Well, currently I'm creating music primarily with virtual instruments/samplers plus one channel of Avalon 737 via 888/24 analog in, but ideally I'd like to have maybe 12 channels of live audio available if I ever feel like recording a band.
I also have a couple of outboard processors I'd like to use (both analog and digital). I'd love to get a multiple CPU system going like others here--for distributing EWQL and Vienna (if I decide to get that). I don't know if it's necessary to have G5s to do that--I have one G4 dual 1.25 ghz and one G4 dual 1.42 machine currently.
I do have an RME Hammerfall 9652 that I was using w/ a PC for GS but was never able to get an ADAT bridge to clock to the rest of the system so I never really got that working right. At this point, I'm more interested in keeping it mac only.
