Upgrade to LR5 and migrate to iMac ?

I have Lightroom3 on my windows computer. I'd like to upgrade to LR5 and to migrate all my catalogs to iMac.
how should I do this ?
Can I upgrade first and then copy everything to iMac?
Or do I do this the other way around ?
Or do I have to buy a new version of LR5 and install it immediately on my iMac ?

You can do either the first or the second, you don't need to do the third.
If you do the second, you don't need to install LR3 on the iMac, you can just purchase and install the LR5 upgrade on the iMac (but retain your LR3 serial number as you'll need it when starting the LR5 upgrade for the first time).

  • Upgraded to LR5 and lost all my edits - can anyone help?

    Hi there
My iMac was returned to me following a repair by Apple - they did a clean wipe & reinstall.
I backed up all my photos beforehand (I was previously using LR4).
I just upgraded to LR5 and have imported all the photos. However, I appear to have lost all the work I did in LR4 - all my edits, and 'flagged' images etc. Is there any way of recovering this? Otherwise I've lost several weeks worth of work.
    Thanks

This means the files are not in the location that the catalog was expecting.
You need to EITHER mirror exactly the file structure of your old machine OR right click (cmd-click?) on your highest level folder within Lightroom and select "Update Folder Location".  This should bring up a window that allows you to browse to the new location of your photos and select it.  If there's not a high level folder that covers all your photos you'll need to do this one folder at a time.
Tutorials are a good idea if you're un-clear about anything but the Catalog is essentially "just" a database.  It stores the locations of all of your files, the metadata associated with them and all the adjustments you've made.

  • I have installed an UPGRADE for LR5 and by mistake downloaded an upgrade thinking it was an UPDATE

Can I simply reinstall my discs? Should I de-install the download? Will I lose data i.e. photographs which I was working on while the new upgrade was installing?

Thank you Jeff. I am using an iMac with the new Mavericks software.  I first installed an upgrade for LR5 from discs which I purchased some weeks ago and seemed to be using the installation to work on my photographs. Then a screen appeared talking about an upgrade  which seemed to be an update to the discs already installed for LR5 so I downloaded it while continuing to work on photos. There were no instructions to close application. When I did close the application at the end of my work session and then tried to reopen Lightroom it is asking for a serial number. When I put in the serial number I have on the discs it says can't use that because it's already being used.  So my question is can I deinstall this latest download and either recover the earlier version or reinstall the discs?  I would like to use the latest catalogue so that I have my latest work that I've done on my photos.
Apologies if this seems confusing - I am confused as to what has happened and would appreciate help. Thanks in advance.

  • I upgraded to Mavericks and my 2008 iMac is slower than slow.

I have a 2008 IMac with 2GB Ram and 320GB HD.  I have been upgrading through out and up to Mountain Lion never had any issues with the new OS systems. I upgraded to Mavericks about 2 months ago and the system continues to get slower and slower to where I really do not want to use it any longer.  I spoke to someone at apple and they said from all of the upgrades there are programs taking up overhead that no longer are needed.  If I bring the computer in they can help resolve the issue.  The Apple store is about an hour drive from where I live.  Seems to me that there must be an easy fix.  I am not that computer literater and switched from Windows to  Apple because of the reputation.  Now all I do is watch that colored pinwheel on my screen more than anything else.  Does anyone have a simple suggestion or do I need to take it to Apple and have to pay them to fix what they have caused.

RAM is pretty cheap these days. It will depend on the exact model of iMac you have. Just for a rough idea I took a look here  Computer memory upgrades for Apple iMac (Early 2008) Desktop/PC from Crucial.com and found a 2 x 2GB upgrade kit for $72.
Most of the sites that sell RAM have instructional videos you can watch so you can get an idea of how difficult the installation might be for you. I've installed RAM on my MacBook Pro and it was not very difficult, and the iMac installation looks easier than that. But that would depend on your own comfort level with doing it. I've done a lot of this sort of installation over the years on my Macs so I'm very comfortable. But you do have to be careful, as the innards of a Mac can be very sensitive to static electricity, and it is possible to damage components if you don't follow directions carefully. But I would see if there are software issues that can be addressed first before you go investing in more RAM.

  • If I upgrade to Lion and migrate MobileMe to iCloud, can I still sync my 2nd generation iPod Touch to my MacBook Pro (Intel Core 2 Duo) via USB cable?

I am very reluctantly considering upgrading to Lion and going ahead and migrating MobileMe to iCloud before June 2012. If I upgrade and migrate, will I still be able to sync my 2nd generation iPod Touch via USB cable? Or will these changes force me to get a new iPod that can run iOS 5 because syncing will be nightmarish?

Thanks for your reply. I would prefer to keep using this iPod for a while yet. Cheers!

  • Upgraded to LR5 and my catalogs became corrupt...

I just upgraded all my catalogs to LR5, and within 1 week, 3 out of 4 of them are corrupt and will not open. Is this happening to anyone else? I thought it was just bad luck, but 3 out of 4 is not coincidence.
Background: I've been using these catalogs for years, starting in LR2. They are currently stored on a RAID external hard drive. I've never had a catalog become corrupt before this upgrade to LR5. My external hard drive appears to be functioning properly.
    Thanks,
    Will

The original catalogs should still be in place. Get rid of the corrupted catalogs that you updated/upgraded, and try to convert them again. If that doesn't work then I would be suspicious that something is not right with your hardware. Catalog conversion has always been completely straightforward in my experience.

  • Upgrade to CS5 and migrating to Mac Pro

First of  all, I am on a Mac G4 running CS4. We also have another G4 running CS2. I am assuming to migrate to CS5, we will have to replace both of these G4 models with a Mac Pro?
Also another question is, how do I migrate. I am on computers that have been upgraded many times leaving a long trail of serial numbers, some of which I may not be able to locate. How does one move to another computer, taking all the Adobe products with it? Will an upgrade to CS5 automatically install everything needed?
    Thanks.

We seem to be having a communications problem. If English isn’t your first language perhaps you could get someone to help you.
I need to know the following:
Did you installed the software or just downloaded the installer?
Did you buy an upgrade or full version of CS5?
Which suite did you buy? Web Premium? Design Premium?

  • Upgraded to Lion and now my iMac doesn't recognise any sound output devices?

Any ideas on how to solve this? "No output devices found" is what the system preferences show under Output.

    Hi Philip..
Preferences (.plist) may be corrupted after the upgrade ...
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.

  • Updated iMac to Yosemite.  Now when in LR5 and try to edit photo in PS CS5 I get error 15 and it will not open.  I've uninstalled PS and reinstalled it but still get the same error.  Any thoughts out there.

I just upgraded my iMac to Yosemite.  Now when in LR5 and try to edit a photo in PS CS5 I get error message 15.  It says to uninstall and reinstall PS CS5.  Done that and error is still there.  I can open PS outside of LR but not inside.  Any thoughts?

The first thing I would suggest is for you to go to the folder containing your catalog, using your system browser. There will be a folder that has the extension .lrdata. Delete that folder, and then try to start Lightroom. If that doesn't work, replace your catalog with your most recent backup.

  • Want to migrate my iMac g5 w/sys 10.3.9 to new mac book pro, how do i upgrade to the minimum system required?

I want to migrate my iMac g5 from 2004 with system 10.3.9 to a new macbook pro. How do i upgrade to the minimum system (10.4.11 or 10.5.6 or later) required? Thank you.

You need to realize that if you buy a new Mac now with
Lion installed, all your PPC apps will not work.
You may just want to build your new system form scratch
and manually move the data you need.  Migrating will bring almost
everything over and, since 2004, there may be a lot you just don't
    want or need.
Also, installing those programs that you own that are
universal installers (contain Intel code) will
insure everything is put in the right place.
Having a fresh clean system to start out with is not
a bad idea.  It's more work but in the long run will
    help to alleviate problems.

Sorry, maybe I don't understand, but why do you feel compelled to subscribe to CC if you already have a permanent Lightroom 5 licence?
For the SmugMug plugin, a simple Google search ("smugmug lightroom plugin") gives this link to download the plugin:  http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/121321
Another way is to click the button "Find more services online..." in the the Publish Service section of Lightroom, and to search for SmugMug in the Adobe Add-ons portal; you will find a link to the latest plugin: https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/1755

    From what I read here:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2011/06/06/lion-...u-2-gb-of-ram/
s long as they already have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed in it.All a person needs to do with that type of iMac is to upgrade/max out their Ram. They claim that an Interl iMac with Core 2 Duo is all that is needed, as long as it has OS 10.6.8 installed. They say you don`t need  the "Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor"
But I wonder about the RAM speed, the iMac 2.33Ghz uses DDR2 SDRAM,  which I believe is rated at 667Mhz. Lion maybe installed but it might be problems running smoothly or not?
Did some quick checking and the iMacs apple is selling this year use 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
The only thing to do is to make sure you have a good back-up, Install your RAM and install Snow Leo, then wait a couple of hours and install Lion.
    Good Luck

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?

My screen sharing functionality did not show up in the dock with an updated icon.  It had a question mark- shows my connections but nothing works, I did make sure screen sharing is on and also connected to VPN.  Once I tried to launch screen sharing nothing happens.  Such an elegant solution in Mavericks not does not work. Ugh. Help!

This is the post that got me set up- I too am running an older version at work vs. Yosemite. As soon as I followed is advice everything worked.
Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?
I believe the location of the "Screen Sharing" app has changed, which explains why if you had it in the dock it has been replaced by a ?
Don't forget you can launch screen sharing (once your VPN connection is up) by typing in the Safari destination slot vnc://remotemachinename:portnumber  (omit the :port number if you are using the default VNC port, 5900).  This should launch Screen Sharing and put its icon in the dock.  You can drag the Screen Sharing icon to the left of your dock and it will hopefully remain there after you exit Screen Sharing, or you can right-click on the icon when it's running and select Options->Show in Finder to find out its new location and drag its icon to the permanent entries in your dock.
Hope this helps; worked for me.

  • Just reinstalled software and migrated data from Time Machine, now iMac does not recognize printer or camera

Under the direction of Apple Support, I recently erased my iMac (Intel) hard drive, reinstalled and updated software and migrated data from an external hard drive via Time Machine.
Now, after clicking on "PRINT", the print dialog box says "printing" then says "no pages found", and finally says "stopped"; and when I plug in my camera to download photos, the camera is not recognized.  Both printer and camera are connected via USB.
I checked connections, verified printing and iPhoto preferences, turned printer off then on again, unplugged and replugged USB connections, and checked and followed directions in the Help menu.

Thanks very much, I'd just tried rkaufmann87's suggestion and entered "This solved my question" when your suggestion popped up—you deserve a "This solved my question" too, though I saw only an option for "This helped me".
Before I got rkaufmann87's suggestion, I repaired disk permissions and that resolved the camera problem.  Both of you nailed the solution.
    Thanks again!

  • I recently upgraded my old powerbook to an iMac.  I've dumped the files of my backup drive into the new iMac. Is there a way to have access to all the files (new and old computers) when logged on as the same user vs. logging in and out to access each?

I am new to posting to this support community but have often referred to it for answers.  So thank you all who've contributed; you've been a great help!

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.
