Upgrade to MAC OS X 10.4.5 Leopard

Upgraded my laptop and wiped hard drive clean. I don't remember my registration code now for quicktime pro. Is there any way to retrieve it?

  • Caught in a conundrum while trying to upgrade a Mac Mini (mid 2010) from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion

    Hi gang,
I am in a very frustrating position as I try to upgrade my Mac Mini (mid 2010) from OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to whatever the latest version of Mountain lion is. The reason I am doing this is because the original hard drive died and the Mini sat there for 6 months before we decided to get a new hard drive and revive it.
I installed a new 500GB 7200rpm SATA drive and the problems began.
First I couldn't get Mountain Lion installed as a fresh OS installation (using both a USB drive and a DVD to no avail). It just wouldn't go. The grey Apple logo/loading screen would come up and just sit there doing nothing while the loading icon spun.
I then tried installing Snow Leopard (the OS that the Mini came with when it was new). After some messing around, that got done.
However, a peculiar thing happens when the Mini boots. Everything loads up into Snow Leopard, but although the mouse curser moves, I cannot click on anything or use the keyboard for 4-5 minutes. Then it just work (I am typing this on the Mini). This happens every time.
Now, when I updated to 10.6.8, I was able to load up the App Store and download the Mountain Lion install app. I clicked it and went through the initial copying of files and then the restart, but after the reboot, the grey loading screen would not progress. I rebooted again and held down the Option key to check out the available boot volumes, and all I saw was the installation DVD I had in there for Snow Leopard and a hard disk volume called "Mac OS X Installer."
So I booted into the Snow Leopard install DVD and opened Disk Utility to check things out. I did a verify disk and a permissions repair. Interestingly, the first repair I did gave me the message that the ACL was missing from Volumes and that is was fixed. I read something somewhere which talked about the Access Control List and mouse/keyboard issues. But who knows. When I boot back into the Mini as normal I am returned to the fully-functioning Snow Leopard installation, like nothing happened.
And now here is the kicker: it appears that the Firewire bus is hooped. In the Profiler, when I view the FireWire settings I get the message, "Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices." So I am pretty sure the one thing I cannot do is boot the Mini into target disk mode attached to my Mac Pro and installed Mountain Lion that way.
So to recap: I can't finish the Mountain Lion installation because the install won't continue after rebooting because there is something wrong with the underlying base system, which might be hardware (FW bus) related. I think.
    Some things I have tried:
    Resetting the SMC
    Resetting the PRAM
    Reparing permissions
Booting into Safe Mode (doesn't work)
Booting into Verbose Mode to observe what happens (I get the "Can't load the Bootcache.playlist" error, which I suspect is related to the screwed up FW bus)
Trying to boot using Internet Recovery (doesn't work)
Booting into Single User Mode and attempting the "fsck -y" etc. sequence to try and repair the ACL that way
    So I am stuck.
I guess the question is, should I get an external HD enclosure and install Mountain Lion onto the hard drive that way and hope it works when I put it back into the Mini?
Any other ideas? I have spent a couple days ******* around with this is am running out of ideas...
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • After Upgrading to Mac Os X 10.6 (SNOW LEOPARD) Internet is half-deading

Yeah, i know this is a known topic, i'm stuck here 2h researching that.
I still couldn't find a fix on it.
I'm using facebook as a test site, because it isn't connecting to facebook anymore
But i'm still able to visit some sites, including here and Mail/MSN
Anyway i tried switching my DNS/DHCP/IP
I tried Upgrading (combo pack) to 10.6.5
    Tried Fixing my permissions...
I just don't know what to do anymore,
This was my first disapointment with Apple,
    and i'm really ****** off.
    Other Information:
I checked on my modem status, and it seems "ATM" is not working properly...
I barely know what that means, but i need help!

Sounds like you have been through some of the posts. In summary here is what I have found in those posts. Two new ones are to Zap your Pram and reset your SMC (items 7 and 8). I can provide a longer description of any or all of these items if needed. In your case since you can get to some sites and not others I suggest searching these boards for that problem separate from a wifi issue.
Fixes known to have solved the problem to posters on this board
    1. Verify that there are no interfering signals (other WiFi units and portable phones or microwave ovens). Change channels regardless as you can't “see” outside inference
    2. Repair permissions – directions at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452.
    3. If you have WEP security change your security to WPA or WPA2
    4. Delete Keychain password for your wifi router or create a new password on your router
    5. Network Prefs - Edit your wifi location (remove airport and re-install) OR create a completely new location.
    6. Look for conflicting out of date or beta software (Peer Guardian, Parallels and VMFusion known issues, Sophos antivirus)
Thing that are recommended, not yet confirmed
    7. Reset your PRAM– directions at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379.
    8. Reset your SMC – directions at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964. This was suggested by Small Dog Tech Tails for many problems
    9. Network Prefs - get a new DHCP lease
    10. Network Prefs – disable Ipv6
    11. Delete network preference files
    12. Manually enter your ISP DNS IP addresses in Network Preference
    13. Be sure your router firmware is up to date
    14. Make sure there are no IP conflicts with other devices (change from standard DHCP to static or MAC assigned IP addresses).
    15. See if you have country code issues with your router seeing a non US router header (using Console log file below)
Troubleshooting tips to help isolate the problem:
    16. Grab a Console log and post the results here
    17. Set up ping to continuously poll the router as a temporary fix
    18. Create a new user and set up wifi for that user as a fresh start (this might be a solution as well)
    19. Report bug to Apple - http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
You have to sign up to be a "developer" but it is free.

  • Please help! I need to upgrade my Mac from 10.4.11 to Leopard.

It's a PowerPC G4. Can I upgrade to 10.5.6 or do I need to upgrade to 10.5 first?  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You need to use a retail DVD to upgrade; if it's a 10.5.6 DVD, you don't need the 10.5 one.

  • HT4150 I'M RUNNING Mac OS X 10.5.8 AND I'D LIKE TO UPGRADE TO Mac OS X 10.6 (SNOW LEOPARD).

I'VE BEEN TRYING TO SPOT IT IN THE SUPPORT CENTER BUT IN THE APPLE WEB SUCH DOWNLOAD IT'S NOT AVALIABLE, HOW COULD I DO IT ?
DO YOU HAVE ANY LINK WHERE I COULD FIND THE DOWNLOAD ?

Please do not use all caps - it's the internet equivalent of shouting.
    Snow Leopard DVD
You can get it only by phone now from Apple.
SL is still available from Apple phone sales -
In the US, call 1-800-MY-APPLE and ask for a sales assistant. Last quoted price was $19.99 for the single-user and $29.99 for the family licence.
For other countries, check here; http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
Don't forget to ask for Sales; the tech support guys can't help.
    Apple UK Sales;  0800 048 0408 (freephone) or 0871 508 4400 (beware - premium rate). UK price £14
Note that delivery times are getting a bit stretched - last one I saw quoted (Fri) was 3 weeks.

  • Mac OS X v10.5.6 Leopard

I want to buy and install the iLife'09, but read that I need to upgrade to Mac OS X v10.5.6 Leopard. When I did a search on the Apple store site, all that came up is Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Family Pack (?) I don't think I can go directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard, so what are my options? Also, I see that some are having problems with Leopard. Have these been ironed out? I only want to upgrade so I can get the new iMovie in iLIfe'09. Is it worth the trouble?

I don't think I can go directly from Tiger to Snow Leopard
You can, except your computer (G5) won't run Snow Leopard (requires Intel Mac).
For Leopard, try calling Apple Support (not Sales). It used to be that when Leopard first came out you could still get Tiger through Support, not Sales. Maybe the same applies to Leopard.
Also, I see that some are having problems with Leopard. Have these been ironed out?
A somewhat sweeping statement. What issues specifically?
    Is it worth the trouble?
Ah, as a Tiger user you got me on that one.

  • Printing problem with HP laserjet 1100A after upgrading to Mac OS Maverick

    Good afternoon,
I have always been able to use my HP Laserjet 1100A with my iMac till I upgraded to Mac OS Maverick.
After giving a printing order just one order will be carried out.
In case I have 3 printjobs I have te restart the iMac twice to carry out all the print jobs.
I am using USB for connection.
When I use the printer with my Windows computer (Windows 7) there is no problem at all with the required printjobs.
I guess the driver Gutenprint v5.2.3 is the cause of the problem.
Is there a new printerdriver available?
    Thanks in advance.
    Fred

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/
I have provided the HP LaserJet 1100 All-in-One Printer series Support page.
    I hope this helps.

I just upgraded my mac book to 10.6.8 and downloaded the new version of itunes. When I try to open it and error message appears saying, "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder."
I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

  • Why can´t I upgrade my Mac Pro to OS Mountain Lion?

Being a person with great interest in photography, video and moviemaking I made a big personal investment a couple of years ago in buying what I thought was the best available computer on the market for multimedia projects for the time being, that is a well equiped Mac Pro (Processor 2x3 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with Memory 8 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM). After that I also upgraded my Mac Pro with a better graphic card (ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB) and extra HDD´s Up till now there has been no problem to upgrade my computer to every new realesed OS software  (latest OS X Lion 10.7.04) from Apple, but when recently trying to download the latest version of OSX, that is Mountain Lion, this posibility seems to have come to an endpoint! When I try to upgrade to Mountain Lion, I get the message that this is not possible with my Mac Pro (in which I for sure totally up til now have invested at least 70-80 000 swedish kronor (10 - 12 000 dollars).
Is this really so, and if so, why has Apple in this way seemingly abandoned all those earlier loyal customers over the world who by investing their money in Apple´s Pro line of products like Mac Pro´s, have contributed so much in building the good reputation and economic ground for the development of Apple in becoming such a sucessful company? Even if Mac Pro still is a strong and competive computer for the time being, this discontinuation of softwaresupport for the big stock of sold Mac Pro computers world wide, remarks a crossroad from where in the long run, Mac pro´s will become useless and therefore also worthless in such an extent that heir owners once more have to make investments in new hardware from Apple, taking for granted that they find it still being a value in being trustful to the Apple line of computer products.
While a company as a rule always willl find ways to make investments in new hardware of great quality if this is calculated to increase the income of the company, the sitaution is totally different for all independent and creative people over the world who have a much lower budget for their projects and as a rule get no profit from their work but their personal joy and emotional satisfaction.
Do I really have to through my Mac Pro away (it will probably be impossible to sell it to a worthy price after Apple now has discontinued supporting the development of  it´s OS ) or do I have to buy a new Mac Book Pro with Retina Display and Thunderbolt Interface of latest version in order to feel safe in continuing using Apple´s Pro applications for multimedia projects foor the future with reliable continued support from Apple (and in that case for how long I ask myself), or is there any possibility to upgrade the hardware of my Mac Pro in order to upgrade to latest OS software and still feel being a member of the sanctioned Apple club?
Alternatively, maybe Apple can help all Mac Pro owners to make it possible to upgrade to needed Apple hardware and software line of their Pro applications, and thus continue to support Apple in using and inspire developing their products and Pro market shares as well as continue to spread their good reputation in this area, in supporting these reliable customers in some way, as an example by giving a discount to all Mac Pro owners upgrading to a new computer from Apple.
Maybe this in fact is the first step from Apple in a plan to soon stop selling the model Mac Pro because the latest compact Mac Book Pro´s already has exceeded the old clumpsy Mac Pro´s in function, versatility and potential for future development. If so this Apple´s decision is logic and understandable, but please don´t abondon all customers of Mac Pro´s all over the world  who have been utterly fidele to Apple in helping the Company to spread the good reputation of Apples computers to ordinary people through the years and thus to a great extent have contributed in buildning the necessary market expectations that have made it possible for Apple to develop and sell new products to a continuing growing market by fulfilling and helping ordinary peoples daily needs. I believe that without these earlier pioneers and supporters of Apple´s ever innovative productline, its not taken for sure the Apple Company should have reached this all time incredible height of success we all can witness today...
    Sincerely
    Stefanis
PS/ Me and my family are true Apple customers and supporters in having all together 4 iPhones, 4 iPods, 1 iPad, 1 MacBook, 2 MacBook Pro´s, 1 Mac Pro, 1 Apple TV 2nd gen, 1 Apple TV 3rd gen and a lot of general and Pro Application (among them all iWork programs, Aperture, Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro X and Logic Pro).

what a long post....Apple, btw, does not read this stuff, so ranting, raving, and complaining here might make you feel good, but it does no good at all. That being said, I, too have a Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon with 6 gigs of ram and an nVidia 8800 GT graphics card (not as good as yours, alas) and I've had no problems at all with it. Yes, it doesn't have Thunderbolt, but maybe we Mac pro owners will get lucky and someone will come out with an adapter (probably not). No, you probably don't have to throw away your Mac Pro, but if you do, I'll take it, for a small "recycling" fee >:-) That was a joke.  Yes, the Mac Pro's future isn't quite clear, YET. Hopefully that will improve very soon. As for not being able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Don't worry about that too much, Nobody is forcing you to do that.  Your Mac Pro won't quit working if it isn't installed. From what  I've heard, you should give the new OS a chance, and wait to get it, in case there might be some bugs, or stuff not working with the new OS, which has been known to happen. Yes, we Mac Pro owners don't like being treated like mushrooms-kept in the dark, and being fed......... but Apple is Apple and it will do what it does, and there is nothing you or me can really do to change that. All I can say is....trust, have faith, be patient, go for a walk, do something else to take your mind off of this problem. IF apple decides to drop the Mac Pro for good, and that's a big "IF", I think they will anger a whole bunch of people
which isn't good. However, that hasn't happened...YET. Let us hope that it doesn't

  • I cannot access my app store after upgrading to Mac Os10.8.2

I have problem accessing to the software update or the app store. This all happen after i upgrade to MAc OS 10.8.2 and certain software upate. Now i cant access the app store. Everytime i click on it, it just bounce for a few second then stop. Another issue is 'finder'. I cannot access the download or my folder in 'finders'. Help....

Yes, if you can follow mcgerbs advice and re-install OS X. There isn't any archive & install selection in 10.8.
Boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
The screen should give you these choices...
    Restore from TM backup
    Reinstall Mac OS X
    Get help online
    Disk Utility
First run Disk Utility Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed". Then, choose Reinstall OS X. This will be an install "in place" and shouldn't effect any of your own data or settings.

  • Problems with Mail after upgrading to MAC OS10 version 10.6.8

I upgraded to MAC OS10 version 10.6.8 about ten days ago, and have since had lots of problems with mail. Since I upgraded, I have downloaded several software updates, including one for improving the general softeware system of Leopard.  Since this morning, I no longer have the Mail icon in the dock and when I try to open it in Applications a window comes up saying:
'You can't use this version of Mail with this version of Mac OS X.  You have Mail version 4.5 (1084/1085). It can't be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549)
Can I download a version that I can use with this Mac, and can anybody give me the site where I can find this. I have tried without success

You should consider downloading the 10.6.8 combo updater and applying it again.
