Upgrade to ML seems to have knocked out Key Repeat?

I've been on ML for a couple of weeks now and have just noticed that I cannot get the Key Repeat to work when holding down letter or number keys.
It works fine for punctuation marks and symbols.
Is it possible to produce a line like this mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm without having to keep tapping the key?

I have a different problem. Pressing & holding a key doesn’t bring up a menu; it results in very slow key repeats. Entering —defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false— produced no change.
Any suggestions?

  • Upgrading to Mavericks seems to have lost my windows 7 dual boot up capability.  How can I get it back?

After having installed with Bootcamp windows 7 a couple years ago, upgrading to mavericks seems to have lost that capability despite windows being installed in its own partition.  How can I get this back?

    This was the scenario:
The first time I updated, it was only my music that was lost.
When I got my music back, I lost my apps.
When I got my apps back, my contacts, notes and photos were lost.
Now I got back everything except for my photos.
(Yes, I restored from backup several times since the first update.)
Do you think if I try restoring from back up, my photos that were taken from my ipod will be restored finally?
    Thank you.

  • Some of my pdf files (since upgrade to Acrobat DC reader) have greyed-out blanks. How can I get rid of this so I can read what is obliterated?

I installed Acrobat Reader DC version 2015.007.20033 on May 3 as an upgrade to the previous version (which worked perfectly). Now some of my pdf files have greyed-out blocks obscuring the text (which I imagine is being hidden by the blocks). In some cases the whole document is illegible. What has happened? How do I get rid of the problem?

Don't know what the problem was, but it disappeared after uninstalling the programme and re-installing it. (It may have had something to do with the few preference changes I made in trying to customise the appearance to look like the previous Adobe version, but if so, I'm not clear which (one?) of them caused the grey-outs).

  • Upgrade to Leopard seems to have broken Apple Intermediate Codec

I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro to Leopard (clean install). Before doing so I made a bootable backup on my firewire drive (which I still have).
Prior to the new install I was able to playback files encoded with Apple Intermediate Codec (And the Codec also appeared in the drop down menu of supported CCodecs for export as I have Quicktime Pro). Now on my machine if I playback an AI file I get audio with no video and the CODEC does not appear in the export options.
Is there a simple way to fix this?
    I had a look in:
    Macintosh HD/System/Library/QuickTime
on both my old backed up OS and the new leopard but could not see the CODEC in either location (is it stored elsewhere)?
    Thanks for any help give,
    Rob

Stored in the root library folder on mine -- i.e., not the System folder. "~/Library/QuickTime/AppleIntermediateCodec.component"

  • I've just upgraded Aperture and seem to have lost all the folders and albums. How can I retrieve them?

When I opened Aperture a dialogue box appeared suggesting I upgrade. The upgrade was done, and now all the folders and albums previously in Aperture have disappeared. How can I retrieve them?

When you opened your new Version of Aperture you probably created a new, empty  Aperture Library.
Do you remember where your original Aperture Library is located? Usually it resides in your "Pictures" folder, and is named something.aplibrary. If you do not remember where it is, search with Spotlight for ".aplibrary".
Quit Aperture, if it is running, then select your old Aperture Library and double click it to open it. This will launch Aperture on your correct library, and you should see all your projects and albums again.

  • My disk space seems to have grown out of the blue.

Need to know how to perform a disk cleanup to remove temp files and any other space consuming downloads.

You can perform a find operation from the Finder (command-f) and then select "size" from the first of the popup menus in the search window (first starting from the left in the search window). If "size" doesn't appear in the menu select the "other" item and then select "size" from the list of others. You might want to limit the search to files that were recently modified or created (you can create this filter by adding another criteria on "created").
When you have the final list of items you'll have to inspect each one to see what can safely be removed OR moved to a backup disk. It should be fairly obvious which documents or files are ones that you have downloaded or created. Just don't remove something that may be critical for the operation of the MacBook (if in doubt, better safe than sorry). In any case, when using find the results should be relatively safe since the find operation (i.e. spotlight) only looks in locations that are "owned" by the user (i.e. it typically won't search in areas that belong to the system).
Note that cache and temp files are generally removed automatically by a periodic task that is run either daily, weekly, or monthly by the system. Besides, these cache and temp files are typically fairly small so unless you are running very close to full on your hard drive they won't make much of a difference. You can google on "mac os x periodic" to find out more about these cache and temp files and ways to remove them on demand (in this case, make certain that you are referencing instruction that are up-to-date with your Leopard or 10.5 OS, since earlier versions of the OS used slightly different methods to automate the cleanup of the cache and temp files). There are also third-party utilities that will remove these files, but IMO you can do it yourself without much effort.

  • Where in the uk can i buy a shuffle - all stores seem to have sold out

Can anyone help  cant seem to get one anywhere!

Thanks but this didn't really help.
I can buy the drives at a dozen places but none of them seem to know what connection is correct (SATA etc) and that includes the apple store. It was the store who told me buy the superdrive and all my problems would be over. Wrong! It isn't recognised by imac as it's confifured for air and mini mac. Only way to make it work is as i said in earlier post. (Would you be happy buying a car you were told would start and then discover you have to open the bottome and fiddle to make it go?)
The apple store I would not even consider taking it to. Days without the pc, over priced and don't have a good reputation for actually fixing things!
    But thanks

  • HT204406 I just enabled Match to my iphone 4S...It seems to have wiped out my entire music library. I bought two new songs and those are the only two songs showing up in my library. Please help!

Match lost my entire music library. It isn't in my music on my phone. That's over $1500 in music, lost Please help.

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

  • I recently used itunes to update my iphone contacts with my outlook contacts, it seems to have wiped out information  from my iphone- can i reset

I synced my iphone contacts with my MS Outlook contacts through itunes.  The information that came over from outlook over wrote any informatiuon that was in my iphone contacts.  For example, I had my wife in my iphone contacts listed with her 3 contact phone number.  I had her listed in my outlook contacts with only her email.  after the sync she was listed in my iphone contacts with only her email address and no phone numbers.  Right now I have too much information from in my iphone contacts from the MS Outlook  How can I go back to my setting prior to this last sync.  I need to purge alot of the information that carried over.

No, I'm sorry.  If you're seeing that Connect to iTunes screen that means the phone is in recovery mode and needs to be restored.
If you can't borrow a friend's computer, you can go to the Apple Store and they will restore it for you.

  • How do you clean up the mac os x startup disc? It seem to have run out of space...

Continually getting the 'force quit applications' message with a note that the start-up disc has no more space available for application memory. Where do I get access to this in order to clean up and delete unwanted stuff?
Any help appreciated as I'm not a Mac user by trade : )

    WAY TOO SMALL
    list: page, hibernation
cache for system, browsers and thumbnails and such (3-4GB)
the "core" of Windows 64-bit is 20GB
all the updates need 10GB temp space
apps and data and anything else you install on top of that
rule of thumb: it will consume 32GB and it needs 10-15GB on top of that and any OS (incl Mac) needs 20% free space to function properly, and on SSDs allow room for write provisioninig (a month's worth of writes).
    Trial - practice makes perfect.
Paragon CampTuneX can resize if you have space to reallocate
20GB may have been fine for XP, not Vista or later.

  • Find historic of all the websites I went to in the last 6 months (need date), sadly about 3 months ago I seem to have clean out all my browser history

I would like to check when I went on specific website in the last 5 months but my browser history start only 3 months back. I had some issues with yahoo over taking my browser and I had to remove and reinstall firefox. Is there somewhere in my apple macbook pro a place where my browser history will be stored?

You would have to restore an older copy of the places.sqlite file via the Time Machine if you have that enabled on your Mac.
Note that this will replace both the history and the bookmarks, so you will have to backup the bookmarks to an HTML file or restore the current version of places.sqlite after you are done.

  • Recent Airport Update knocked out my wireless connection???

The recent Airport release which I understand was significant in patch some hacker holes... but doesn't do me any good if I can't reconnect with my network. Is anyone else having the trouble or does anyone have a suggestion? I have a Netgear 54Mbs wireless that worked with no problem before I installed the update. The network is still working fine on my Windows laptop. My macbook can connect using the ethernet just not wirelessly. Please help!!!

I had this problem, too, with a Linksys WR54G Router. After my Mac auto-updated a few days ago, it constantly dropped the connection, while my XP machine kept flying right along. I looked through all these forums, and tried the easier ideas, such as deleting and reloading the network preferences, repairing disk permissions, etc. None worked, and I was beginning to think I'd have to archive and reinstall the OS.
What seems to have worked, though, is updating the firmware on my Linksys router. When I connected to the router, I found it had firmware that was over a year old. A more recent version -- only a couple of months old -- was available, so I downloaded and installed that. Presto, the Mac seems much better.
So, I would check this on your Netgear router. Perhaps Apple designed this update to work only with the latest firmware from each manufacturer. Linksys made no specific reference to their firmware upgrade improving any issues with Airport in the info file that came with the upgrade, but it seems to have done the trick, regardless.
Each router/base station manufacturer will have their own interface and method for doing the firmware upgrade, so check their website for instructions. It's actually pretty easy, compared to -- say -- the kernel extension fix. Probably worth a look before attempting more extreme measures.

  • All my pictures and videos have greyed out and don't open says 'loading' but doesn't load

All my pictures in my photo album seems to have greyed out and not loading up, is there a setting that I may have pressed or something like that?

    Hello, connarbentley.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would first start with forcing all open applications to close and power cycle the device.  Test opening the Photo App on your device to see if they load.  If the issue persists, see the second article below.
iOS: Force an app to close

  • How can I get my old memory out to upgrade? one seems to be frozen

I am trying to upgrade my iMac.  I have ordered the upgrade but am having trouble getting the old memory card out (one came out pretty easily, but the other won't move).  Also when I inserted the new memory card in the one that would come out, it didn't seem to go in as far as the one that had come out.  I had to just put the old card back in.  Help!

Here are the complete specs for your iMac:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-2-extreme-2.8-24-inch -aluminum-specs.html
Now, I've never heard of Axiom, but that does not necessarily mean anything; however, what does is that iMacs are known to be extremely finicky about the RAM.  The brands usually recommended here are either Crucial or OWC (macsales.com) - this would be the RAM you'd need from them:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo
As for getting the old stick out, if you can't manage it, I would make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar and ask them to check out the slot (this is free). Also check on why you can't put the new stick in all the way - it may just be that you're not pushing hard enough, it does require quite a push. If the Genius can't seat the RAM correctly, I'd say there is a problem with the RAM and I'd return it.
