Upgrade to new Extreme, old Express no longer recognized.

Original setup: 2009 iMac (Mavericks), Airport Extreme (A1143), Airport Express (A1264-extending range).  All worked fine, and worked equally well on new iMac retina (Yosemite).
Upgraded to Airport Extreme 802.11ac (A1521) on the retina iMac.  Works great, but not quite to the other corner of the house.  However the system no longer recognizes either the early Airport Extreme or Express.  Where is the problem?  Yosemite?  Airport Utility?  Hardware incompatibility?
Current solution: place the new Airport Extreme in the middle of the house with long ethernet cable.  But I’d like to use the Express to drive remote speakers. All devices connected are at least “n” capable.

  • Airport Express No Longer Recognized in Airport Utility

I have an Airport Extreme (version 7.3.2) that I is connected to my cable modem and a pc in my basement. I have an iMac in a separate room on my second floor that accesses the internet wirelessly via the Airport Extreme. I also have an airport express that I used throughout the summer to play airtunes through speakers that I set up in other parts of my home. The airport utility (that is set up on my iMac) always picked up the Airport express and the window in the lower right corner of iTunes allowed me to pick the speakers so that I could play my music on the connected speakers.
All of a sudden - and without any warning - when I tried to connect my airport express last week, all I got was the blinking amber light on it; the airport express is no longer recognized in my airport utility. I have tried to reset the express, but it doesn't work. Furthermore, the option to play airtunes no longer appears in the lower right corner of iTunes. All I have now is a blinking amber light on the Express.
Can anyone suggest ways in which I can correct this problem and resume playing airtunes? I am not the most technically advanced person, so please try to make any suggestions in simple terms! Thanks!

Just an update to yesterday.  I managed to get the DVD out of the superdrive by shaking it out while ejecting.  I put the old HD back in and still no dice with regards to making it show up in Disk Utility.  While opened up, everything seemed to be in order with nothing burnt or smelling burnt.  All connections seem to be in place.  I guess it's off to the repair shop for the laptop.

  • Upgrade my router and Airport Express no longer works

Got an Airport Express 802.11g (v.6.3) it was working fine until I upgraded my router to Linksys E4200 v2.
Airport utility (5.5.3) would not see it. I plugged it my MAC and still would not see it. Tried soft, hard and factory reset. Finally it sees it!
I updated the info about my new network through Airport Utility and after it restarts AirPort Express the amber light is flashing and APU is unable to find it.
So the only way I can get it to see it is hard reset and plug it in.
Tried this like 3 times now with the same result.
It's a few years old so maybe it is not compatible with my router? Although it should still see it after I've made my settings in Airport Utility after all it's still plugged in and my router is not involved at that point. Any ideas?

    Well I fixed it myself.
My router had by default WPA2 / WPA mixed mode" security mode and my airport Express did not have the exact same one and was to "WPA/ WPA2 personal". Then I switch my router security mode to WPA2 Personal and match it on the Airport Express and back in business.

  • Can't use my old HDD after upgrading with new one,old is GPT protected

Hi everyone! First of all I would like to thank you in advance!
Recently I upgraded my old HDD on my MacBookPro. I made a clone of the old disk, installed the new one in the MBP and putted the old one in external enclosure. Now I'm trying to use the old disk with the enclosure, but it doesn't appear in Finder, it appears in Disk Tools, but I can not perform any actions on it. I tried to erase it, but with no success! The old disk is GPT protected and I don't know what to do. Tried to erase it with Windows and Linux with no success neither. I know the enclosure works because it recognize every other disk, but my old one is untouchable to my Mac OS! I'm looking for possible ideas on how to make my old HDD usable with the enclosure?

Can't really help with your Internet issues, but I can put you on the path to leaning more about Macs.
If you're a former Windows user, there many resources on Apple's web site to get yourself familiar with how Macs and OS X work.

For the video tutorials, in the video search box, just type in OS X. You'll get a list of OS X video tutorials to watch  as you learn to use your iMac.
Start with the Anatomy of a Mac video first, Then the Finder Basics video second. After you have watched and put to use these two videos, you can watch any other OS X video you want in any order.
Here is a free eBook download of David Pogue's OS X Snow Leopard The Missing Manual here. While OS X 10.7 LIon and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion work a bit differently than OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, there are many things that still apply.

  • Upgrade to new OS, but can no longer log in to computer

I upgraded my iMac to Leopard and after the upgrade is complete, the machine boots up, asks me for a name and passwrd, but does not accept anything.
I tried resetting the user password using a startup disk, but same results. machine boots up, does not let me log in.
    What should I do?

Wow, does this sound familiar. I got the same thing with a gray screen, a log-in area in the center that showed my correct primary account, and the right password clue (a password I've had for four years, mind you, and one I had successfully used over 30 times the day before for the installations). It was not accepting my password at all, and just literally shook the log-ing box like an earthquake on the screen, refusing any and all attempts at going around the problem. I couldn't get past it to get to my other drives, one of which should have been just fine.
I ended up having to take it in for repairs, and the repairman booted in from an external drive with OS, (another Mac would do the same thing - see this article for how-tos: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306857
What the repairman did at that time was to go into Utilities and take out the password protection on the startup screen (which, btw, I had never HAD on the start-up screen before, and only used that password for logging in to iTunes, my dot-Mac account and security changes to the machine).
Once he had removed the password, I was able to get in and try to do an install again. I was able to do an upgrade install on only one drive - the original one. I had a conflict in headers on one RAID drive that using the disk utility and Drive Genius and other tools similar to Boot Camp did not solve. When I tried to install Leopard again, I ended up having icons and literally all the associated information (programs, photos, iTunes, etc.) disappear before my eyes - literally with icons disappearing from the screen as I watched.
I ended up having to nuke the entire system on all of my RAID drives, losing everything in the process. It has been working fairly well, except for some Email and other problems at times, after I nuked the entire RAID set down using the Disk Utility to erase the drives first for the new installation. Leopard would not even allow me the option of doing an erasure and clean install from the disk, btw, once I had the other problems start up. The ONLY way I could get it to work at that point, was to nuke all the HDs from Disk Utility. Real nuisance, but luckily I had backed everything up onto a 1 TB external before attempting an install.
Don't even attempt to install Leopard again once you get past the log-in problem, until you have backed up your information, or you could very well lose it all.
BTW, the Mac repairman told me that he has 12 machines in his shop at once, all with repairs necessary from the Leopard installation. Considering I've never had this problem, or anything like it with a Mac, and only have come to expect that with PCs, this is very disappointing.
    Good luck!

  • Help installing CS upgrade to new machine, old PS 5.0 cd not recognised as proof of ownership

Trying to rebuild a win XP system for my wife. Her machine with PS CS has crashed. When I install PS CS upgrade the install routine wants a PS 5.0 disc to verify the license. Then it give an error that "A qualifying version of Photoshop was not detected".
I tried phone support, they verified that we do own a valid copy of CS but could not help because the software is no longer phone supported.
So are we out of luck or can someone help out?
Thanks in advance if you can help.

Yes, you are qualified to download and install Photoshop CS2 free of charge, because activation for CS has ended and you can't install it anyway.  Check this link for details.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l
Click on "Download and install CS2 Applications."
You will be given a link to the Photoshop CS2 download and a serial number to open it.

  • Upgraded to new TC / Old TC keeps showing in AP Utility.

My old TC is unplugged, yet its ghost is still lingering on the Airport Utility. I can access my new TC, but I now have 2 showing up. Very strange... it even shows a green light (although I cant go any further with it, like getting into its settings obviously). All my software/firmware is current.
How do I exorcise this ghost??

    Frozo, welcome to the discussions!
I'm a little confused by your statement that "lately the TC just stops working." Do you mean ethernet, wireless, both?
Don't know if this will help or not, but a few thoughts:
The subject of your post indicated that you were losing the TC when trying to connect to it with AirPort Utility. Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable directly from your Mac to one of the LAN ports on the TC so see if that will help on that problem.
"I have my TC connected via ethernet to my FiOS wireless modem."
I assume the FiOS is also a router with multiple ethernet jacks, correct? You should have an ethernet connection setup between one of the Ethernet ports on the FiOS to the WAN port on the TC. (Actually, with the TC in bridge mode..see below..you could connect to any port)
In AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Internet icon, check to make sure that Connection Sharing for the TC is set to "Off (Bridge Mode).
Update the TC in AirPort Utility and verify that you can connect via ethernet to the LAN ports on the TC before going any further.
Wireless....Under the Wireless tab in AirPort Utility, Wireless Mode should be set to "Create a Wireless Network" if you want the TC to handle wireless devices.
Those would be the two main settings to check. If you have made multiple changes to the TC setup, it might be best to hard reset the device back to factory defaults and start over on the configuration.

  • Airport express no longer recognized within my home network

Home wifi no longer recognizes my Airport Express which I used to tether itunes to stereo.  Any suggestions or is it broken or too old?  How do I tell?

Please check the model number on the bottom of the AirPort Extreme and post back with that info.
Which version of the AirPort Express do you have?
The "new" AirPort Express looks like a miniature version of your AirPort Extreme.
If your AirPort Express is the older version that plugs directly into an AC socket, check the Model No on the side of the Express and post back with that information.
In the meanime, you can click to "Forget" the AirPort Express in AirPort Utility.
As far as resetting the AirPort Express....with the Express powered up for a few minutes, hold in the reset button on the Express and watch for the amber light to start blinking more quickly. Keep holding the reset button in for another 5-6 seconds when you see it blinking it more quickly and then release.
The Express should now restart and stay solid amber for about 30-40 seconds, then begin to blink amber about once a second.
Please confirm that you have been able to accomplish this "Hard Reset".

  • Airport express no longer recognized by macs, but still seen by iOS

    Hello,
I have two airport expresses that I've been using just for streaming audio to two stereo amplifiers.  They were working fine a week ago, both with Lion and with Snow Leopard.  I have five macs in the house right now, running either of those OS versions.  All have suddenly refused to recognize my two airport expresses.  I can't find them using Airport Utility 5.6.1, which I think was recently provided by software update, so I downloaded an earlier version and it doesn't see them, either.
I have made a few changes recently, but none in the last week when the problem has started.  A couple of weeks ago I went to a Vizio wireless router, because the airport express that I had been using for my wifi internet had begun to drop its connection.  About 10 days ago I downgraded back to Snow Leopard because my white macbook was not performing well with Lion.  But after doing so, the airport expresses were working fine in conjunction with the new router. Another computer running Snow leopard also refuses to recognize either Airport express, and there's been nothing done with that except to upgrade Airport Utility to 5.6.1.  The macs in the house running Lion have Airport Utility 6.0, and they can't find the airport expresses either.
I have tried rebooting computers, and unplugging/reconnecting the airport expresses.
So you might think the problem lies with the Airport Expresses, but why would they both fail at the same time?  And to add to the mystery, I find that my iOS 5.1.1 devices, including an ipad 2 and an iphone, both can recognize either of the AEs.
    Thanks in advance!

Ok, found a solution.  the wireless router sets up two networks, one at 5 ghz and the other at 2.4 ghz.  I had been connected to the 5 ghz network.  When I switched over to the 2.4 ghz connection, the Airport expresses became visible again.  So, I guess the airport card sets its speed to receive the wifi network and as long as it's using that, can't communicate at a different rate for other devices?

  • Airport Express no longer recognized by my network.

I added an Airport Express (in another room) to my functioning home WiFi (Air. Extreme) as attempt to increase signal elsewhere in my home. My computer did add it to the network for months but now does not recognize the Air. Express. Airport utility shows its image and says that it was previously part of the network and Should it be forgotten?
I have repeatedly unplugged the Express, tried to press on a reset hole (?) on the back etc. It just blinks yellow. The iMac in that room is on the network so the signal is getting there.
I am just trying to increase signal for my kids and grandkids when they visit with their MacBooks.
    Any ideas?

Please check the model number on the bottom of the AirPort Extreme and post back with that info.

  • Airport Express no longer recognized

I've had my Airport Express a good many years to stream music wirelessly and it's worked very well. Now I'm wondering if it's reached its end of life. I use it exclusively to stream music wirelessly from iTunes on my MacBook Pro and my Windows 7 desktop. The situation is that the AX is plugged into my stereo system and the green light is on, but neither computer can find the AX - it's as if it's not there. I unplug the AX to reset it and the yellow light flashes for a few minutes then goes to green. For a brief amount of time, the AX shows up on the computers, and I can ping it successfully. Then it disappears again but the light on the AX stays green. I attached the AX directly to the router via an ethernet cable and reconfigured the device but the same thing happened.
My router is a Belkin N+
So am I missing something obvious or is time to say adios to the AX? If the latter, what are my best options to wirelessly stream music from computer to stereo?
    Thanks for any help.

I had the same Issue. My Internet connection was working, but slow. Amber flashing light on the airport Express. Airport Utility was not recognizing the airport express.
In my case, after updating my mac software, the airport firmware was out of date.
Here what I did to solve it.
    1) Connect to another wireless network if possible, or directly to your modem via ethernet.
    2) As Above, unplug the airport express, plug it back in after 30 sec.
    3) Airport Utility should now recognize the express. if your firmware is out of date as mine was (mine had never been updated) it will inform you in airport utility.
    4) Click download firmware update within airport utility. (As #1 I had to join another network for this, but you could also plug directly into your modem)
    5) Software, installs, express reboots. order is restored.
now i'm back up to great surfing speeds.
    Hope it helps.

  • Upgraded to 10.7 camera is no longer recognized

I guess I can restarting again, but basically I plug in my Nikon 2500 and it doesn't matter if I start iPhoto before or after. The camera never shows up, not in iPhoto, not in Finder, not on the desktop.
I took another picture, it has a specific button for upload/play. It has worked for years. I've had that camera longer than this mac.
    Any ideas?

How long has it been since you reformatted your camera storage card? iPhoto does not really see your camera - it sees a FAT32 formatted mass storage device - if that device is corrupted it will not recognize it. A recommended work flow it to use a USA card reader and place the card in it and import your photos to iPhoto, do not have iPhoto delete the photos but put the card back in the camera and use its format command to reformat the care and erase it - this renews your card format each time you use it
For the photos you have on the card now your choices are:
1 - iPhoto (which is not seeing the card)
2 - image capture (in you applications folder) which probably will not work either
3 - The finder if your camera mounts the storage device to the desktop so you go directly into it
    4 - trying a different computer
5 - trying a USB card reader (a good investment for the future)
6 - seeing if a recovery program like media recover - http://www.mediarecover.com/ - the free trail version will inspect your card and see what you will be able to recover - you will have to purchase to actually recover files
Once you get your photos I recommend that you reformat the card after each use

  • After Upgrading to IOS5, iPad 1 Is No Longer Recognized by iTunes

    Hi,
My iPad 1 with wifi/3G was working perfectly until I updated to iOS5. The update process seemed to have gone fine but at the end my iPad showed up in iTunes as an unrecognized device. Not only that, iTunes then gives the message: "We are unable to complete your activation at this time."
I have tried restarting my computer, restarting the iPad, restaring the iPad in safe mode, etc. Nothing has worked so far. I can't even restore the iPad since iTunes won't recognize it nor activate...
Anyone has any ideas how to resurrect the iPad?
    Thanks in advance!
