Upgrade to Oracle 9i from Oracle 8.1.6 database

I suppose you have read this question many times, but I can't find the correct answer.
Is there some document or URL address to upgrade a Oracle Database 8.1.6 to Oracle 9i?
Where can I read about this topic?
Thanks in advance,
Patty

Raghvendra,
If you are still trying on this one, and haven't yet been successful, try out this. Get your 9i database exactly as how it was before you began any of the imports. I mean keeping the SYSTEM tablespace and the other defaults like USERS, TOOLS, TEMP, etc drop all others if they weren't there originally. Next take a good report of the DBA_TABLESPACES table with all vital information like TABLESPACE_NAME, INITIAL_EXTENT, NEXT_EXTENT, MAX_EXTENTS, etc and on the 9i database create the extra ones just as in 8 version. As for the ones already there in 9i like the SYSTEM, change its parameters to facilitate bigger values if required as in 8 version or maybe go with the recommendations as in Oracle documentation for the 9i migration.
Once this is done, why don't you post your import script here so that we can look at it and suggest you furthermore, perhaps?

  • Calling Stored procedure in Oracle 11g from Oracle forms developer 6i

We have Oracle 11g (11.1.0.7.0 ) database (64 bit) installed on Windows Server 2008.
In this database, we have stored procedure ABC(arg1) which is accesing a table in another instance through DB LINK. If we EXECUTE this procedure from SQL/TOAD. It runs successfully and generates the desired output.
If we write the contents of the stored procedure in the PROGRAM UNIT / ANY TRIGGER in FORM 6i then also, It runs successfully and generates the desired output.
It is also mentioned, that if we try to use any table in the same instance (and not through DBLINK) then it works fine.
However, if we try to call this stored procedure (which is  accesing a table in another instance through DB LINK) from  ORACLE FORMS  6i  in WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger then the FORM BUILDER gets hanged while compiling the form developed in FORMS 6i.
Please provide a solution to this problem.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE.

    Asstt. Manager(IT)
    Software development team.

Forms 6i was never meant to run against a 11g database, this was not tested and is also not supported.Well, that is not completely true. Developer 6i is supported against a 11g database, but only for Oracle Apps R11. That means that for most other customers (not Apps) Forms 6i will work against an 11g database. However, only Apps R11 is supported, and patches are only created specifically for Apps. We are also running Forms 6i against an 11g database without (well, minor) problems.
In this case, you need to find a solution. You can try to put the stored procedure in a package. The package body, with the reference to the remote table, will be hidden from Forms this way.

  • ADF Mobile - insert data into oracle db from oracle adf mobile application

    Hi,
I have to insert data from mobile into oracle database 11g(not in local sqlite database), can somebody tell me how to do it?
    Thanks,
    Anshul

Hi, Anshul, one common way is to expose DB data as ADF BC, and then add a service interface on top of ADF BC. This would allow the ADF Mobile app to access server DB through ADF BC. There may be other mechanisms to access server-side DB - I think APEX also expose some REST interface to Oracle DB as well. Another option is to use TopLink - TopLink can also expose some REST services.
    Thanks,

  • How to restart Oracle instance from oracle client

I have an Oracle server 10g with DEVEL instance on AIX machine. I have an Oracle Client on Windows machine as well. I want to stop and start the instance DEV from my client using bat file. Is it possible ? Is anybody knows how to do it ?
    KP>

well, right now the correct question should be : how to start database.
I am able to login as sysdba to DEVEL on AIX ( from Windows client) and shutdown it but when I try to startup it returns such a message:
ORA-12505: TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor
but I am still able to tnsping my DEVEL from client ...Post listener status, its contents and entry tnsnames.ora file. Here is how I got connected shutdown and started. The process I followed:
1)Made entry in listener.ora file as I said earlier, restarted the listener
    2)Made change in tnsnames.ora file
3)Connect from client shutdown and started.

  • Integrating Oracle Reports from Oracle Forms

    Hello All,
I'm migrating from 6i to 9i/10g Forms and Reports on a Windows 2000 workstation.
I ran existing Forms and Reports through Migration Tool.
When I open a migrated Report in Reports Builder, connect to db, and click run, I get a blank browser. Any ideas what I have done wrong?
When testing a migrated Form that calls a report, the job fails. As best I can tell, it does not see the "Report Server" on my workstation. What did I do wrong?
I been searching for documentation to help myself, but haven't found any that address these issues.
    Any insights are greatly appreciated.
    -Chris

    Chris,
    sound like two issues
    a) Reports run in report Builder show a blank browser window
    b) Forms can't find the Reports Server.
For a) I don't have an answer and suggest to ask this question on the OTN Reports forum.
For b) The Reports Server needs to be created as an external process (or started expplicitly on UNIX). The default Reports Server is the "in process" server, which means that it isn't available before the Reports Servlet (rwservlet) is requested for the first time. The Forms Run_Report_Object() call is performed on the server and doesn't use the servlet, which is why a request may fail.
After using the migration tool, a user parameter exists in the Oracle Forms module that contains the Reports Server name. This name also can be overridden at runtime using a function of the rp2rro.pll

  • Printing oracle report from oracle forms

At our place, our clinet machines are upgraded to IE8 (Internet explorer 8), and some users are having probelms when they print pdf reports from IE8. If they save pdf report on computer and use adobe acrobat reader, then they can print, but when they hit print button on the IE8 they are unable to rpint.
Please advise why some users cannot print pdf reports from IE8. Thanks

    Hi,
has anyone managed to resolve this yet?
seems as though some sort of impersonation mechanism is necessary for the machine running the reports server to identify to the printer as the client username running the report..
i do know it's possible to pass to the rep server a parameter called "authid",
so if for example i run the following -
    http://<server>/reports/rwservlet?report=test.rdf&authid=rsorero&userid=bla/bla@bla&server=repsrv&destype=PRINTER&desname=\\printsrv1\myprinter1&desformat=PDF
then in the report server queue (showjobs) i get the owner as "rsorero" instead of "ANONYMOUS"..
but that doesn't translate to an OS user on the server side, and the print is still owned by [server]$..
    any insights?

  • Is it possible to launch Oracle Forms from Oracle Discoverer?

If so, please provide documentation on how to do it.

It is not possible. The Forms runtime is a C Process; that runtime, that interprets FMX files, only exists in Oracle Application Server, so you need to have OAS or Weblogic to run Forms.
