Upgrade to OS X v10.5.1

I have a Power Mac G4 configured as a Final Cut editing machine that has been giving us several system problems. We have tried many different fixes but still are having problems. I have finally come to the point where I am thinking the only sure fire way to fix it is to reload it. Right now the computer is running version 10.3.9 and I am looking at upgrading it to 10.5.1. Does anyone have any suggestions about doing this upgrade? Below is the System Profiler information for this computer:
Hardware Overview:
Machine Model: Power Mac G4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 1 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.4.8f2
Software Overview--
Mac OS X 10.3.9
Final Cut Pro 5.0.1
Adobe Photoshop CS 10.0.2

Gotta go with Allan on this one. First of all, "Upgrading" and performing an "Archive and Install" are not the same. A&I installs a completely new OS. It does not upgrade the existing one. The advantage an A&I has over an "Erase and Install" is that you don't have to reinstall apps and reconfigure settings. But, because so much information is preserved, there is no guarantee that all of your apps will "work" or that the issues the "original" OS had will magically vanish. There is actually a good possibility that an A&I could result in a system that has the same problems that were there before the A&I was performed. For that reason (and many others) the best bet if your system has problems is to avoid the Upgrade and A&I options and perform a "from scratch" installation of the OS.

  • ITunes not working after upgrading to Lion OS V10.7

I have upgraded to Lion OS V10.7 but I lost all my playlists on iTunes. I tried restoring iTunes from my last back up, but now I am unable to open iTunes at all.

Yeah, that's happened to me a bunch, it's a pain the the arse. Delete your shortcut and create a new one.
To do this navigate to the c:\program files\iTunes folder (assuming you've selected the default location) and find the iTunes.exe file using the right mouse button right click on it and you should get a menu with an option to create a shortcut. Once the shortcut is created you can drag it and drop it wherever you need, start menu, desktop or quick launch bar.

  • Can I upgrade from osx tiger v10.4.11 to osx Snow Leopard v10.6 for 29$ ??

I was wondering if I could upgrade from osx tiger v10.4.11 to osx Snow Leopard v10.6 for 29$ or at a lower cost than full price. I do not need to upgrade that much because 10.4.11 is so great and I hate to leave it. Paying the full price of an operating system does not make sense to me. Can I do it cheaply because I am upgrading?

    No.
The $29 upgrade is from leopard to Snow Leopard.

Hello, does anyone know if I can upgrade from OS X v10.6.8 straight to Mountain Lion on a Mac Book Pro? Thanks

    Yes.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
Before upgrading check that you computer meets the minimum requirements:
    Snow Leopard General requirements
      1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
      2. 1GB of memory
      3. 5GB of available disk space

    Upgrading to Lion
First, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 as stated above.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Before upgrading check that you computer meets the minimum requirements:

Why is it taking so long to download the upgrade from snow leopard v10.6.8 to os X Mavericks?

Because the file is over 5 GBs. If your internet service is slow then it can take a long time - several hours.

  • I have had to "re-instate" "Mail" on my 5yr old Macbook Pro after it got "lost"during an s/w upgrade to Snow Leopard v10.6.8. In reinstated version all my Email archive folders are now missing from the screen. How/where do I find them ??

I recently purchased Snow Leopard v10.6.3 in order to upgrade the OSX platform on my 5 year old Macbook Pro. That loaded without trouble. Then I needed to do an online upgrade from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 (via 10.6.4) and there the trouble commenced !! Somewhere along the way, the "Mail" application simply disappeared! On advice from Apple telephone support, I did a "selective" reinstall of "Mail" from the Snow Leopard disk, but the version of Mail it loaded (v4.5) was wrong for use with OSX v10.6.8 and so it kept asking for the 'latest" version (v4.6) and just would not work. I tried a "Fix" download provided on the Apple site, that didn't work.
I spent 2 hours at the Genius Bar of my local Apple Store and they finally found a fix, after some difficulty. Apparently there had been a programming error somewhere in one of the Apple update downloads.
So now I have "Mail" back - but the Mailbox folders now not as they were before - particularly they do not contain my archive Folders that I had been using to store certain historic emails.
I think the folder structure on "Mail" is now identical to that on my "BT Yahoo" screen - whereas before they had been different. My local Apple Store told me that it was practice now to synchronise the "Mail" screen and (for example) the BT Yahoo screen to be identical. This is well and good going forward - but does not help me with access to my historic "email filing system" !!
Anyone help me find those missing folders ??  They must be stored somewhere, but where ??!!
    Cheers

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

I just upgraded our G5 web server to OS X v10.5. The upgrade created an available server "TA-Web-Server.local. The first 4-services appear to be running OK (green light) but the web services are stopped. When I click on the "Start Web" button I get the following error:

Just discovered the problem. the server has a fixed IP address and the update had placed the IP address to the right of the pull down box for the IP address. This pull down menu has "other" and "any." You must disable all web sites defined and then reboot. then enable the web site after you have selected "Other" and entered the IP address...........Ray

  • Upgrading G% OS X v10.3.9

this question partially has to do with my recent purchase of the new nano ipod 3. i have a G5 OS X v10.3.9 (non-intel chip) Mac. i have just found out that in order to use it-i have to upgrade to better than 10.4.8 which i belive is Tiger, or i may have to upgrade to Leopard (i'm not sure if this machine can upgrade to these). when i do upgrade to either of these platforms will i lose my ability to utilize applications i already use i.e. Photoshop & Illustrator (version 8), After Effects 6.5, and Microsoft Office. Please help--it seems to be a very expensive upgrade just for a new nano ipod. thank you

    Welcome To  Discussions bluemoondream!
To investigate if your Third-Party applications, are compatible with a newer version of OS X, you could check on the manufacturer Website, for system requirements or updates.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
Once an OS has been installed, the point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.10 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Leopard 10.5.x, can be purchased at The Apple Store (U.S.).
    Leopard System Requirements
Tiger 10.4.x, is no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Leopard 10.5.x, is the most up to date OS.
Some Apple retailers or resellers, may still have Tiger 10.4.x in stock.
If you know what to look for, a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased, sometimes less expensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, FastMac, HardCore Mac, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

If any are presently available, examine these items very carefully, and if in doubt, ask questions of the seller before purchase!
    Tiger On eBay
If your Mac meets the Tiger System Requirements, once Tiger 10.4.x is installed, you can use the PPC 10.4.10 Combo Update, to upgrade to the current version.
Additionally, Tiger 10.4.x ships on a DVD, so if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you will have to use an alternative method of installation.

The Tiger Media Exchange Program, referred to in that article, is no longer available.

  • SSRS Report Viewer slow paging when upgraded from v8 to v10

We recently upgraded our ReportViewer control in an ASP site from version 8 to version 10.  While beta testing this release, we discovered that for one report with a significant amount of data, it takes about 10 seconds to go from the first page to
the second with the version 10 control.  With the version 8 control, the same report with the same data pages near instantaneously.  Both versions take about the same time to load initially.
The report is using the OverallTotalPage variable, so I was under the impression that it would cause all pages to render initially.
Another piece of the puzzle is that this report uses a subreport; if I remove the subreport then the paging is fast with the v10 control.  This is not a solution, because then it is missing some of the data.  A possibility might be to rework the
report so there is no need for a subreport.  However, I am hoping that there might be a setting on the report and/or subreport or viewer that could help this to function the same way it did with the version 8 control.
Any ideas?  Or explanations as to engine changes that caused this to happen?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Thank you for your question.
I am trying to involve someone more familiar with this topic for a further look at this issue. Sometime delay might be expected from the job transferring. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

    Try trashing your mail preferences:
    <YOUR NAME>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
After that, it may be a good idea to do a Repair Disk Permissions:
Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Select your hard drive in the left pane, click the first aid tab at the top, then click the Repair Disk Permissions button.

IF I can run v 10.5 on this model, do I need the original install discs for Tiger or is the Leopard upgrade DVD all I need?
