Upgrade to PSE 10- Importing catalogue/tags from PSE4

I want to upgrade from Photoshop Elements 4 to Elements 10. Will Photoshop Elements 10 automatically import my photo catalogue from Elements 4 including all the tags? If not can this be done manually?

Sorry for delay, got bogged down trying to get the laptop restore to work which was a waste of time because it's hard disc was too small !
As suggested by dj the restore from my PSE4 backup appeared to work and on completion it went into an automatic conversion and also said it had converted successfully. However it gave the message :-
"The catalog named My Catalog.psa has been converted for use with this version of Elements Organizer and the original catalog has been renamed to "d:\xxxxx\My Pictures\My Catalog.psa 1"
On closing this message window I get thumbnails created for a catalog shown as My Catalog 1, which the above message implies is is the unconverted catalog ?
If I open My Catalog it says "No items have been imported to this catalog" !?
So is something wrong or is he conversion message misleading ?
I have an additional problem in that the drive letter on my new PC is different to the original was single drive, new has 2 drives). So for the restore I specified "New Location", pointed at the My Pictures folder under which I wanted the photos. I also requested "Preserve original file structure". This seems to result in the full path from the original PC including "Documents and Settings\User\My Pictures\...." etc beneath the My Pictures which is very cumbersome ! I did try without the "Preserve original ..." but while this didn't create the unwanted additional folder levels it also removed the required folder structure within My Pictures (not surprising really I suppose !).
Is there a "easy" way of moving the folder structure around or would it have to be done for each tagged level ?
Think we're making progress though !

  • PSE 13 "Import Keyword Tags From File" Fails

Whenever I try to do the above command, it fails. As shown in the attached figure it gets to 9%. Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this error?
    Thanks in advance.

is there a way to import tags from PSE 12
The PSE 12 Organizer and LR 5 use different file formats for exporting and importing keyword hierarchies. PSE uses XML format, while LR 5 uses a tab-separated format.  If you're a programmer or technically minded, you could convert from one to the other using your favorite scripting language.
But the approach suggested by dj_paige can be modified to accomplish what you want without scripting, by copying the keyword hierarchy from the "upgraded" LR catalog that was created from your PSE catalog to your "good" LR catalog:
    1. Make a manual backup of your "good" LR catalog: Lightroom Help | Back up a catalog.
    2. In LR, open the catalog that you created previously by upgrading (converting) the PSE catalog -- you can usually get to that catalog by doing File > Open Recent.
    3. Go to grid view in the Library by doing Window > Library followed by View > Grid (usually you're already in Library grid view, but just in case...)
    4. Make sure the Keyword List panel is showing on the right by doing Window > Panels > Keyword List.
    5. You should see the keyword hierarchy from your PSE catalog.  If you don't, stop and post a screen shot of the entire LR screen.
    6. Do Metadata > Export Keywords to export those keywords as a LR-format text file.
    7. Open your "good" LR catalog by doing File > Open Recent.
    8. Do Metadata > Import Keywords and select the file you exported in step 6.
    9. All the keywords that were exported in step 6 will be added to the current catalog, and there will be duplicate keywords if there were already keywords of the same name in the catalog.  Those new keywords will not be attached to any existing photos in the current catalog.

  • Import People tags from Windows Live Photo Gallery

I've used Windows Live Photo Gallery for years and have over 15k images that have people tags embedded in the metadata for the files.  I recently downloaded the Photoshop Elements 13 trial and am trying to determine if the organizer that ships with it will meet my needs, however, I am not seeing a way to import People tags from my existing images.  I have imported the images, and most of the photo tags appear to have been imported, but not the people tags.  Is there any built-in way to import people tags from the file-based EXIF metadata, or an external tool or add-in that might be able to bring my WLPG People Tags into PE13?
    Thanks!

Adding a 'Me too' to bump this up. Doing the '30 day evaluation' as I'm looking to change only because MSFT has abandoned the product and I some better editing on things like 'healing/clone brush' for the picture's I scan (using the very old Digital Image Pro).   Google's Picasa has no problem recognizing them including the location of the face selection (though it does like to recognize over top of them sometimes).
I can deal with some of the amazingly frustrating clunkiness of the UI and navigation (they seriously need to hire some new usability designers) but it is a show stopper if the People aspect won't recognize existing tags from WLG and/or Picasa.

Upgrade to SE 3.0 Keep Tags from SE 2.0 ?
I've tagged over 1000 pics in SE 2.0 so I need confirmation that tags will stay if I upgrade to SE 3.0.
    Thanks

I too have upgraded from 2.0 to 3.0. But now when I try to download pictures from my camera I get a message that says "this device does not contain any supported media". How do I correct this?

  • How do PSE Organizer import photo tags? not found

After importing all my picture to one catalogue in the organizer of PSE 9 for Mac, I recognize that my photo tags which were set in Lightroom and save in the photos are not available in the oragnizer.
Even I am not able to find those tags or can use my tags for filtering.
Is there a switch inside PSE to activate my tags or what ever.
    Thanks for your help!

Did Lightroom write the tags to the photo files? Lightroom doesn't do that automatically, you have to turn on an option in Lightroom.
Which brings up a 2nd point. Why do you want to use two different "organizers", one in PSE and one in Lightroom. This seems to me to be pointless ... extra work, no benefit.
If I had to pick one "organizer", I would simply use the Lightroom Library Module. It doesn't make sense to me to pick the PSE Organizer in this case.

  • Importing people tags from PS Elements 11 to Lightroom 4

On first use of Lightroom 4, some people tags from PS elements 11 were not imported on the conversion, while others were.  Is there a fix for this?

I just had the same issue with installing Lightroom 5 for the first time. It spent all day converting my PSE11 catalog. The only people tags it seems to have brought over are the ones that are actually in the files, not in the PSE11 catalog. Which makes it kind of useless.

  • How to Import People Tags from WLFG 2011 to PSE 9

How can I inport people tags that I have created in Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 into PSE 9? I use Windows 7, and I see that with Windows Explorer properties the WLFG people tags are listed under Description>People and the PSE people tags are listed under Description>Tags. In PSE properties, the WLFG people tags are not listed and the PSE people tags are listed under IPTC>Keywords. Help!

I know that very well, like you said it did not need much googling. But my question was, if someone has e.g. ready-made plugin for that. Of course I could e.g. let WLPG find the faces and then tag those manually with rather small effort. But it would be nice, if that was done automatically. Like your answer sais, the tagged information is stored to the file, but in non-standard way. It is not rocket science to extract that information and do standard tagging with some plugin. But my coding skills are not enough - not even close. So the original question is still valid.
Once more: I can do it manually, but can I make it more automatically. Well, I need to check clvrmnky's answer more carefully.

  • Is it possible to import NEF raw files and also import the tags from the existing XMP sidecar files?

I use Daminion to organise, tag and filter my photo collection. It allows me to place all of the tags in sidecar .xmp files. It uses the Adobe libraries to create these files. When I import the photos into Lightroom 3 or 5, Lightroom does not currently read the tags in the sidecar files.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get Lightroom to read the .xmp tag info?
Is there a setting in Lightroom that I am missing?

I'm just a raw beginner when it comes to Lightroom. I know it has tagging capabilities, but they seem quite outside of Lightroom's main focus which, as I see it, is photo tweaking.
Daminion of the other hand is totally focussed on management of a large and diverse digital assets collection (Photos, Video, Audio, Office documents, PDF's Vector graphics CAD). At this point I am using the stand-alone version of Daminion, but I will probably upgrade  to the networked version when the collection has been whipped into shape enough to be shared sucessfully.
This is not intended as a commentary on Lightrooms capabilities. As I mentioned I am beginning to learn to use it.
I generally try to use the best tool for each task. I really like Daminion for it's asset management focus; Lightroom for Photo editing. You CAN drive nails with a wrench but why would you want to?

  • How to import people tags from Windows Live Photo Gallery to Lightroom?

I know, that this is rather WLPG issue than Lightroom, but maybe someone has had the similar problem. I have used WLPG for sorting and viewing my photos, but now I am starting to use Lightroom. I have used automatic face recognition for tagging people. I know, that there is no such a feature in Lightroom, but the first question would be: how to utilize the existing people taggings? They are embedded to the image, but so far only WLPG is able to use the data. It would be enough for me, if those "people tags" would be automatically used as "normal tags" in Lightroom (i.e. without coordinate information). Any solutions? Of course the face recognition plug-in would be optimal solution

I know that very well, like you said it did not need much googling. But my question was, if someone has e.g. ready-made plugin for that. Of course I could e.g. let WLPG find the faces and then tag those manually with rather small effort. But it would be nice, if that was done automatically. • Upgrade to PSE 11, missing people tags

My understanding is that the "people" category should now be at the bottom of the tag list; mine is not.  Some of my previous people tags are in the people tab at the top but not all of them and not on the right at the end of the tag list at all.
I've tried converting the old one a second time but they are still not there.  The last tag is the one for "smart tags."  I feel like I am just missing a step somewhere.  Can anyone help?

Go to the Media module and ckick to show the Tags panel on the right.
    Then click the top menu:
    View >> Show People tags

  • Howcan I import tags from PSE 10 into PSE 12?

I've got the albums in PSE 12 but I have much organizational information in the PSE 10 Keyword tags and don't know how to import them.  Thanks in advance.  Phil Young

    Hi,
If you simply want the list of tags without any association to media, you can try this:
Go to PSE10 catalog,Click on the drop down available adjacent to + button in keyword tags and Select Save Keyword Tags to File
Specify the destination where you want the file to be saved.
Now come back to EO12, open the drop down list available with keyword tags and click on Import Keyword tags from file.
Choose the file you saved earlier and import it.
The tags should be imported now. But please note, assosciation with media will not be there.
If you want assosciation as well, you need to convert the catalog in PSE12.
    Thanks,
    Anwesha

  • How to import all tags, etc to upgrade version 3.2

I have all my photos organized in Album version 2.0. After installing version 3.2 how do I import all my old tag, collection and title information?
Version 3.2 found all the pictures but I did not get the related info.

    Nicholas,
Please understand that these two products are actually quite different.
Photoshop Album is similar to Photshop Album SE, but as you might imagine
given that SE is free, it is NOT the next step UP for Photoshop Album.
    Photoshop Elements 3.0 is.
I am not sure if Version 3.2 has the ability to import the tags from 2.0,
but I will get confirmation on that. By now you'd think I should know, but I
run into these things only one at a time.
I should have an answer in a day or two. If it is supposed to pick up the
tags, I will have additional questions for you.
    Cheers

  • Import tags from another catalogue without develop settings

How do I import tags from another catalogue but not the develop settings of each image?
    Here's whats going on:
I started with 5000 images on a hard drive. I gave a copy to someone else working on the project.
I physically moved images into real folders and edited all the shots.
She left all the images where they originally were and tagged each image.
I want to combine her tags with the edits that I've done, with the images in their new locations I've made.
I have a copy of her catalogue file.
I tried importing her catalogue into mine- which will pull her metadata tags, but only also with pulling her develop settings which resets all my work.
How can I import ONLY her metadata tags?
I can't open her catalogue and write the tags into XML sidecars because I've moved the images from where her catalogue says they are.
I realize we should have done this differently from the beginning, but with that being said- if I could import only her metadata tags then that should work. But Lightroom 4 only gives the options of importing BOTH metadata and develop settings.
    Any ideas?

One option (backup your catalog first):
    * Import her catalog (apply metadata and develop changes), which adds a "Paste Settings" step to the edit history.
    * Restore previous develop settings using ScrewAutoSync, to roll back the settings by one step, to pre-"Paste Settings" state. - just make sure you *don't* do this to photos that weren't changed by the catalog import. One way to do that is to apply a no-op (do nothing) preset to all photos before importing the catalog (that way if you inadvertently roll 'em back one, they'll be the same as they were). You must create a no-op preset by hand, or use this:
    http://www.robcole.com/LrForumSupport/Clear Edit History.lrtemplate
(hint: context-click & select "save link as")
    There are probably other options.

  • Imported people tags in PSE 11 - how do I merge them with existing people tags?

I have just upgraded from PSE 9 to PSE 11 and have imported some pictures that I have tagged in another program. Importing tags for everything other than people works fine (already used tags are recognized and reused). But importing tags for people proved to be a problem. They did not merge automatically with my previous people tags in PSE. My imported people tags ar now placed under "Imported Keyword Tags" in the "Media" workspace. How do I merge or move them to the "People" work space where the people tags for PSE 11 is placed?
I also wonder why people and other tags are put in different places. Is it possible to view all keyword tags in one list/place?

Thanks. That helped a little bit, but not with the merging of the identical imported tags and People tags. They seems to be separate systems? Other tags you can merge by selecting both and right click < Merge Key word tags.
I can of course do it all manually now that I'm able to search for both tag types in Media, but this seems unnecessary and idiotic...
