Upgrade to Snow Leopard - Final Cut works - Compressor, Motion Don't

I am trying to launch Compressor and Motion after an upgrade to Snow Leopard. I did a search for information already but I have not had much luck getting them to work.
I have deleted the listed files and folders and reinstalled the components a couple of times.
I have repaired permissions, tried using the remove FCS and doing all of the above. I am worried that if I remove everything and not just components with issues that I will loose all my plugins, projects and settings.
How do I make sure it all comes back and what is the best path to take to get everything working again safely.
Please direct me to the correct postings if you know without having to retype everything just for me.
Thanks,
Carl

Thanks for the response. I will look at it when I return home and post the error.
Although, I may have figured this out on my own.
Looks like I didn't have the most recent update for snow leopard. I think I am good.
Will update later.

    Greetings:
I have just acquired an older mini mac (2006 1.66 ghz core 2 duo) Anyway, it had Tiger 10.4 on it and the Bluetooth worked for the wireless Apple keyboard and mouse.  I upgraded to Snow Leopard and everything works fine - everything except Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth icon does not exist in the System Preferenc screen.
I tried to download Bluetooth from Apple site but the message I got told me that I didn't need it.
Under Finder, Utilities, I found Bluetooth File Exchange but the message I got was that I had to connect a Bluetooth device to my computer.
I have to admit that I have no idea what's going on here.  I am hoping to avert the need to try another complete re-install of Snow Leopard.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Puzzled is a polite word for it.
Thanks Barry - I found the file and trie to send it to trash.  The response: (This item cannot be trashed as it it owned by the system).
After dancing around with PRAM and SMC and turning on while holding the power-cntrl-option-shift and heavens knows what else, I now have the Bluetooth symbol on the top of the menu bar but it is ghoseted and has a squiggly line through it.   This, I didn't have before so I read this as some progress.  It notes that "Bluetooth is not available">
However, the Bluetooth icon is still missing from the System Preferences window - you know, between "network" and "sharing".
You note that you reckon the issue is not software based and you may be correct.  The reason that I wonder about that though, is that before I installed Snow Leopard, the keyboard and mouse both paired with the box under the Tiger 10.4.  That leads me to conclude that hardware is functional and that there is some screwy little bit of software that is not cooperating.
If I could delete Bluetooth from the system and re-install a fresh version, that might help.  Or, is there a way I can use the Snow Leopard install disc and only load in Bluetooth?
    I'm stumped.
    Thanks for your time
    /Bill C.

  • After upgrading to snow leopard my charger works intermittently, could this be a software issue or just a coincidence

After upgrading to snow leopard my charger works intermittently, could this be a software issue or just a coincidence

Very likely this is a coincidence. Have you tried resetting your System Management Controller? That would be the best first step for any issue that has to do with power.
    Best of luck.

  • Final Cut working with motion

I am used to working with final cut express and livetype where I would do the following:
    - edit my videos
    -export to livetype
-create edit my animations / text over video
-import livetype files to my final cut project for final editing
I have just purchased final cut pro x and Motion 5 and cant understand how to acheive the same sort of workflow. I want to be able to edit my videos together in final cut and then take that into Motion to add my animations etc over the top. Is there no easy way of doing this? i.e can I export final cut project to motion or open the 2 together?
In Livetype it used to export final cut markers which was essential to adding animations at the right points in my edit?
    Thanks
    Alistair

Not sure why you're responding to me BenG (loved your movies by BTW, woof), but since you have responded to me I would agree ripple training is grand.  Whether it's a more powerful workflow is certainly subjective.  If someone is intimately familiar with LiveType, it's beautifully archaic GUI, and it's roundtrip features (not offered in Motion 5) then in practice for specific types of graphic compositing, LT is arguably a more powerful workflow.  It all depends on your goals and your point-of-view.

  • Snow Leopard- Final Cut 5.1 HDV Capture

I just installed Snow Leopard, and since I did, I haven't been able to capture HDV footage from my Canon XL H1. Up until the upgrade, I didn't have any issues. Any ideas on a cause or a fix? Thanks!

It appears I'm not alone in experiencing this issue.
I upgraded to 10.6 mid last week. I've experienced no problems except for this. Upon launching Final Cut Pro 6, the "Log and Capture" player does not recognize that my Canon HV30 is plugged in. I receive a standard message explaining that FCP is unable to initialize the device.
I've checked and re-checked to make sure this isn't a random glitch. I've tried virtually every power cycle combination possible and yet FCP will not recognize my camera.
System Profiler does show my camera plugged in and is able to identify the device as a Canon VIXIA HV30. I am able to view and record files using QuickTime 7, and, according to others on this forum, it appears that iMovie '09 will gladly accept my camera.
Is this some crazy incompatibility with Snow Leopard? Do I need to go buy Final Cut Studio 3? I'd LOVE a fix, considering I'm dead in the water at the moment.
Hate to sound like the snide guy who has "work to be done" but... I DO have paid projects that are going nowhere if I'm unable to capture video directly into FCP. Anyone have any solutions to keep me going in the mean time?
Another note: Avid Media Composer is also unable to capture footage through my camcorder. I doubt these issues are tied because Avid is able to control my device and view footage in real time from the camcorder.
Hopefully I've provided enough info to let the powers that be work their magic. Thanks in advance!

  • Will i still be able to run illustrator CS2 if I upgrade to snow leopard?

will i still be able to run illustrator CS2 okay if I upgrade to snow leopard?
i was told by employee at the apple store i need to install snow leopard to take advantage of the cloud and sync my itunes to my iphone 4s. mainly use my laptop for design work using illustrator CS2 and cant afford to have it not work properly if i upgrade to snow leopard.

iCloud only works with 10.7 Lion according to what I've heard, to get 10.7 you have to upgrade to 10.6.8 then download 10.7 from the MacAppStore. Then only to a 64 bit Intel Mac, no Core Duo's. Also you need 2GB of RAM, but many say you really need 4GB.
CS2 will NOT work on 10.7 for sure, it might not run on 10.5/10.6 neither.
CS2 is rather dated, you'll have to check with Adobe exactly what you can do first, IMMO don't bother.
You won't achieve your goal, so it's best to stay right where you are and run that machine until it drops less you break something.
Next machine you buy, it will be 10.7 and you'll have to buy a new CS5/6 whatever etc.
    Also new printers/scanners etc.
Something to plan for, I'd wait for all your software/drivers to be Lion ready first, then wait for the bugs to get out before purchasing a new Mac.

  • Aperture 2.1.4 - No preview or thumbnails after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I had upgraded to Aperture 2.1.4 before upgrading to Snow Leopard and everything worked fine. But since I installed SL, whenever I make a new version, I get no preview (just a big gray box) and no thumbnail (just a dotted lined box). So this makes Aperture absolutely useless to me. Apple says my service period has expired and I need to pay $199 to get any tech support to remedy this. I think that's ridiculous because I think this is a problem caused by SL.
Before I pay this stupid fee, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but nothings changed.
In the meantime, I've switched everything over to Lightroom. So Apple better get this resolved or its losing a good customer to Lightroom!
    Thanks... David

    Hey Tony...
    Thanks for the response.
I am using a Canon 5D Mark II and import RAW files. But I don't think it's a camera specific issue. Even is I import a plain old jpeg and make a new version of it, all I get is a outlined box for a thumbnail and a big gray box for a preview. And the little spinning "loading" wheel goes on forever.
I have gone to that support page and have done everything on it without success. I'm out of ideas.

  • Upgrading from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Mountain Lion

So I purchased Mountain Lion online and received the redeem code from Apple. I've redeemed the download for Mountain Lion but have been having issues trying to even initiate the download. I've gone into system preferences and turned off the computer's sleep mode to prevent the computer from going to sleep during the download. When I click download, the App Store seems to load for a second and then it just goes back to saying download (as if I never pressed the button, or at least that's what it looks like). I have gotten it to start downloading once (as indicated by the icon that appeared in my dock), but about mid-way through it failed and said I had to retry.
I'm upgrading from Snow Leopard (v10.6.8) so I don't have launchpad. I'm also limited in my ability to get fast internet (I have to go to a coffee shop to get decent internet where I live). So I guess a couple questions:
    1. Is there a minimum internet speed requirement for downloading Mountain Lion? (If not, I'm willing to wait at the coffee shop even if it takes a while)
    2. If it isn't necessarily an internet speed issue, could it possibly be downloading somewhere where I can't see it download? (although I this seems unlikely as I have had the download appear in my dock on at least one occassion)
    3. Is there anything else on my end that might be causing issues with the download that anyone can think of? (I've called apple a couple of times already so I just wanna make sure there isn't anything glaring that I might be missing before I try to call them again)
If there is any other info that might help diagnose the situation, let me know and I'll try to describe what's happening on my end
    Thanks!

Yeah, that's pretty much what I have (1.5 MBps down and up). The connection isn't consistent though (it drops and reconnects on an inconsistent basis). I guess the problem I'm having is getting the download to even initiate, which has, to my knowledge, only happened once (this morning). I go back to school on Wednesday where I have a 10 MBps down and up connection. Trying to get this done as soon as possible with school starting up again next week to try and make sure everything is up and running smoothly.

  • Can i upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion and stay with iTunes 10.7?

I woukld like to upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion but i don't want the new iTunes 11. Is this possible?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. Open the Mac App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
To upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion, you should have at least 4 GB of memory. You can check the amount of RAM you have in  > About this Mac.
OS X Mavericks will be launched in weeks and will include new features > http://www.apple.com/osx/preview

  • Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then Mavericks. I have Final Cut Express and when I export to Quicktime, and open to play the movie, Quicktime starts to "convert" it? What is this about????

Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then Mavericks. I have Final Cut Express and when I export to Quicktime, and open to play the movie, Quicktime starts to "convert" it? What is this about????

My existing movies are all the following types straight from FinalCut
    Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920 × 1080, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
This particular movie is 6.66 Gb
The new Quicktime player in OS Mavericks converts these to the following format:
    Apple ProRes 422, 1920 x 1080
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
And a movie size of 6.48 Gb
Please, please can someone tell me why?

  • Titles and Transitions doe not work after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I can not get my Titles or transitions to work in iMovie any more after upgrading to Snow Leopard.
Everything goes to a black screen. I am having problems with final cut express also. Anyone have an idea when there will be a patch to fix this? I would hate to have to down grade.

Holy *&$^, no kidding. I mean this is bad. I can't really do anything on iMovie at all. I really hope there is a simple solution to this, b/c if this really is part of a bad release, Apple will not hear the end of it.

  • Applications fail to work after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I can't believe how poor a job the upgrade is! Ok, Snow Leopard installed ok and saved me a good bit of space. It also boots a lot quicker too. But.....
..what is the point of all of this if it no longer opens my applications without crashing every time??! I wouldn't mind if they were old but the apps are mostly the latest versions, and are even Apple products too! E.g. Final Cut Pro.
Also, the apps that do open are now asking me for the registration codes all over again. If this was meant to happen then a heads up would have been nice
    Apple.
I would prefer the slower Leopard with all my apps working than this upgrade where I can't do anything!
What kind of upgrade do you call this Apple??? I hate to say it but Microsoft might well have done a better job! Will Apple be resolving these issues soon?
Any one else having problems with applications?
    Anyone found a solution?
Anyone know how to backout the upgrade?
Many thanks from a very disappointed Apple fan.

Everyone in my household who has upgraded to Snow Leopard has had the same problems with program crashes and the computer "forgetting" registration codes.
In fact, after re-entering codes, and then upgrading to 10.6.1, we had to re-enter them again because it forgot (again) that we had bought/registered the software. It was a lot of fun digging through old emails and such looking for the codes, let me tell you.
I'm pulling a Vista and downgrading my computer back to 10.5.x. That was stable and remembered my software, at least.

  • Do your Home Work BEFORE you "upgrade" to snow leopard

Here is my experience with this upgrade... I provide in hopes to prevent others from spending hours and hours with this upgrade...
    1. First, I have 3 video cards in my MacPro. One is an ATI HD3780. Once I upgraded to Snow Leopard, my mac would not boot and just got the black square of death on the screen. I removed the card, then tried to find the new drivers for this card, which do not exist on ati's web site that I could find. I finally found my original install disk, installed the graphics card drivers, reinstalled the card and now my machine boots.
    This Snow Leopard "upgrade":
    2. It removed all my mail plugins, didn't simply move them to a disabled folder, so I had to reinstall them:
    -Dockstar
    -SpamSieve
    3. Many other 3rd Party apps had to be updated. More than any upgrade I have done with the Mac. I had to go thru the applications folder and try every 3rd part application, and a ton of them now had to be re-serialized, and some don't work at all. I had a ton of screen savers that don't work now, and it doesn't disable them it deletes them.
In all this was the most cumbersome "upgrade" I have ever done on a mac, and I have been upgrading macs for almost every version of the os. IF this "upgrade" was labeled as it truely is " a New Install", I would expect all the things I have had to deal with. Calling this an upgrade is downright goofy..
    Good resource BEFORE you upgrade:
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
    Summary:
If you want to upgrade, and you have a mac that has lots of applications on it, you may want to set aside around 4-5 hrs to get your mac working like it was before the upgrade. Also if you have older apps you may want to choose to install rosetta during the install process, and BEFORE you upgrade, get all your serial numbers for all your 3rd party apps just in case. Not all of mine asked for it, but enough did that it took around 4-1/2 hrs for me to get back to the point of before the install. (Glad I didn't install it on all my macs yet!). I am very happy I didn't install this on my work machine or I would be in major trouble, things like fink, etc... would all be trashed...

Do your homework before you upgrade, or prepare yourself and set aside a lot of extra time..

  • Since upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday, twice I've been unable to get my screen saver to release back to my working desktop. Anybody else have this issue?

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday, twice I've been unable to get my screen saver to release back to my working desktop. Anybody else have this issue?

For a few users, since some point in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, there has been an occasional problem when trying to wake from sleep if you have Bluetooth enabled for the keyboard, Magic Mouse, Trackpad, etc.
The solution for me that worked 100% of the time was: System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.
For me, the problem ran intermittently through 10.6.something, all of 10.7 and now, finally, seems to be resolved in 10.8.2.

  • I have a big problem with Lion and PGP. After upgrading from snow leopard to lion I cannot access my PGP drive which was generated under snow leopard. PGP does not start but gives a notion that lion cannot work with my PGP version. Solution?

After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion I cannot access a PGP drive which was generated under snow leopard. PGP does not start. When I try to start I just receive a message that Lion cannot work with PGP. How can I now access important and confifential informatio which I have stored in PGP (snow leopard). Do I have to move back to snow leopard. If so, how can I do this?

    If you have this product,
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH165159
you have to go back to Snow Leopard.
To re-install SL, back up your home directory, format and re-install.
