Upgrade to SQL server 2005 - Point Production Environment to New Server?

We have Essbase, Workspace, EAS, EIS, FR, WA environment in Production, supporting SQL server databases are on ServerA which has all these databases in SQL server 2000. The corporate standard is moving to SQL server 2005, and the SQL server DBA has copied the supporting dbs to ServerB for testing.
Is "pointing" to ServerB an option, or do the BI+ components have to be redeployed? Any help or pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.

Stephanie,
There could be schema changes between 2000 and 2005 you may want to check the support matrix to ensure your version of Hyperion is supported with SQL 2005.
Best bet is to back up the business rules, fr reports and then configure the system to the new databases on the SQL 2005 box then reimport the items.

    Hi Vivek,
In Reporting Services, values for LogonUser, LogonDomain, and LogonCred are created when the report server connection is configured to use a domain account. As to the error that “The encrypted value for the "LogonCred" configuration setting cannot be decrypted”,
we can know that it relates to the domain account for report server connection.
To fix this issue, we can refer to the following steps:
Log in to SQL Server Database Engine in SQL Server Management Studio.
Under Security folder, give sufficient permissions for your domain account.
Open your Reporting Services Configuration (go to Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -> Configuration Tools -> Reporting Services Configuration)
Navigate to the Database Setup tab, select ‘Service Credentials’ as the Credentials Type, then type your domain account and password in there. Press Apply.
    Restart the Report Server services.

  • Upgrade english sql express 2005 to spanish sql standar 2008

    Hello.
I've bought a license of sql standar 2008.
When I added the license at Microsoft Volume Licensing Service center I chosed the spanish version because the SO was in Spanish.
But I didn't know that there was an old slq 2005 express in Englis installed in the same server where i want to install the new one.
Now, when I try to upgrade, the assistant says that it's impossible because the previous version is in english and the new version is in spanish.
It's possible to change the language of sql at Microsoft Volume Licensing Service and download the english version?
Can I change the languaje of the installed sql express to spanish?
    What can I do?
    Thanks

    Hi ,
According to your description, if the language of  OS is Spanish, and the license of SQL Server 2008 standard version is the Spanish version. I recommend you should reinstall SQL Server 2008 in Spanish as an named instance or
uninstall SQL Server 2005 express in English and reinstall SQL Server 2005 express in Spanish, then upgrade this version to the SQL Server 2008 standard.
In addition, for more detailed information regarding to the license issue, please call

  • SQL Server 2005 SP4 not installing correct on Server 2003

Everytime I attempt to install SP4 on my Server 2003 system it states it goes through successfully but when I reboot it hasn't done anything.
Summary Log states all is successful for version 9.00.5000.00 (0 Errors, SQL Support: Passed, Summary: Successful)
after reboot or even before the sqlserver.exe shows its still version 9.00.4262.00 and still shows up in Microsoft updates and doesn't show the install at all in Add/Remove Programs
I'm at a complete loss on what to do.. I've tried the RTM download and the Auto Update method both with same results.  Tried shutting down all services in relation as well.  I'm lost

  • Transferring 3 SQL databases from both SQL Express 2005 and Standard to a new physical server

I am trying to figure out the best method for transferring SQL 2005 databases from 2 different physical servers to a new server running windows server 2008 64bit.
I own a fully registered copy of Microsoft SQL 2005 32bit Standard Edition. However all of my SQL databases together are only 4GB in size thereby making 2008 SQL Express an option.
Here is the breakdown of the servers:
    1) (Old Server1) Windows 2003 Server 32bit - SQL Express 2005 32bit
    2) (Old Server2) Windows 2003 Server 32bit - SQL Server 2005 32bit Standard
    3) (New Server) Windows 2008 Server 64bit - (Not sure which version to install)
**The objective is to migrate 2 SQL databases from Old Server1 and 1 SQL database from Old Server 2 to the New Server. What version should I install on the new server??? Do I go with 2008 express or install the 2005 Standard Edition?
Pending your response to which version to install, what are the correct steps to migrate (which I have never done before) the databases from both of these servers to the new server?
I have researched this online and I think this particular situation is unique in that I am transferring from both SQL Express and Standard from 2 different physical servers to a 2008 server that is 64bit. I cannot find anything online that I feel confident
in trying. Please help me, as I have this migration deadline of this weekend. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello,
You may choose between using backup/restore or using detach/attach methods to migrate the databases.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms187858(v=sql.90).aspx
You can transfer logins using the following article.
    http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/918992
To decide if you migrate to Express Edition or to another edition, please review the features supported by each edition. For instance, Express Edition does not support jobs (SQL Server Agent is not available).

    Hope this helps.

  • Using Windows Server 2012 VL Product key with Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi all,
Trying to use a Server 2012 vl product key to active a Server 2012 R2, but running into issues, namely it is not accepting the key. I have read many threads pointing out that different keys are required, but no mention of the process that one needs
to take in order to obtain/swap product keys? Any ideas appreciated? :)

The product key I have is for Windows Server 2012 Standard VL, (It's not a DC).
I have downloaded the evaluation iso for Windows Server 2012 R2 and want to licence it (with a VL), but it is failing with the Windows Server Standard 2012 VL product key.
My question is - am I doing something wrong, or do I need to ask Microsoft to change the product key / buy a new one? - What steps do I need to take?
The product key for WS2012 will not work for WS2012R2. (so, yeah, you're doing that wrong)
    WS2012R2 is not a "free" upgrade from WS2012 (it's different to Win8.0 -> Win8.1)
Your WS2012 pkey will work with WS2012. To use WS2012R2 you need a WS2012R2 pkey.
If you want to "convert" an evaluation license install, into a full licensed install, you must match the version (2012 vs. 2012R2) and the edition, and must use DISM as well as the correct pkey.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj574204.aspx
If you don't have the correct pkey for WS2012R2 already, and you don't have one waiting for you in the Volume Licensing Service Center website, you'll need to purchase a new license for WS2012R2.

  • Headstart Designer 6i. Install into Production Environment as Client/Server

    Hi,
We are using designer 6i with headstart installed. We already have it installed in one 8i database running on an NT server but now we need to deploy it in a different 8i database. The associated documentation relates to a web server enviroment. Can you provide the steps or documentation to install this on a client server environment?
    Thanks

    Paul,
You're right.. You shouldn't ;-D But a good hack is hard to resist. Therefore, create the following view:
    create or replace view my$version as select replace(banner,'Personal ') banner from sys.v_$version;
Now, create a synonym named v$version to this view.
The neatest way to do this is to create the view my$version view in your HST schema, and create a grant and a private synonym to this view in the schema's that you use to run the Forms:
    create synonym v$version for <HST_OWNER>.my$version
But if you're bold enough you could also remove the existing public synonym v$version (which points to sys.v_$version), install the my$version view in the SYS schema and create a new public synonym:
    create public synonym v$version for my$version;
And remember, you never heard this from me ;-D
    Kind regards,
    Peter

  • SQL Server 2005 upgrade & migrate to 2012 method

    Hi,
    The situation is like this:
Currently I have SQL Server 2005 on an old Windows Server 2003. The target is to let SQL Server 2012 on Windows Server 2012 with the databases migrated over. The new server with Windows Server 2012 was prepared.
Originally my plan is to install SQL Server 2005 on the new Windows Sever 2012 first, migrate the database from old server to here, then upgrade SQL Server to 2012. Then found out this method cannot be used due to SQL Server 2005 is not compatible with Windows
    Server 2012.
    Alternative suggestions are appreciated.

SQL Server 2012 supports upgrade from the following versions of SQL Server:
SQL Server 2005 SP4 or later
SQL Server 2008 SP2 or later
    SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 or late
So please make sure that your existing sql server 2005 is upgraded to SP4 or later.
Then best way is use side by side.
Windows Sever 2012 on you new machine and sql server 2012.
Then use side by side method to migrate your old sql 2005 to new version 2012, ( moving backups and restore, logins, jobs, packages, configurations, maintenance plans,
linked server details and more. )
If you use in-place the in case of any issues we cant do anything to bring back the server to old version or fixing the issue may take lot of time. side by side its matter of navigating the connection and changing the connection setting for application and
putting databases for use ( online from single user or may be from online to online )

  • SQL Server 2005 Memory Explosions

    We have the following configuration:
ESXi 5.1.0 running on three clustered Dell 710 servers
    vCenter Server 5.1.0
The clustered servers have a total of 88G of RAM
SQL Server 2005 x86 running on a virtual Server 2008 R2 x64. All databases run fine for several days with memory usage seeming at ~25%. Suddenly, the memory consumption
shoots up to ~98% and we have to reboot the server. This is based on information from the task manager and the measurements in vSphere Client. I understand that the task manager is not an accurate measurement when AWE is active but that’s the best I’ve got
    at the moment.
Here's what we've done thus far:
Looked through the logs on the SQL Server and found the following:
In the System log, Resource-Exhaustion-Detected appeared at the same time but the highest memory consumption was services.exe at 125MB. Doesn’t seem to be the culprit.
In the Applications log, started getting MSSQLSERVER errors indicating ‘The Server was unable to load the SSL provider needed to login.’ These errors persisted through the downtime.
In the SQL Server Log File Viewer, we see the following errors, though I’m not sure that they are at all related:
A significant part of sql server process memory has been paged out. This may result in a performance degradation. Duration: 0 seconds. Working set (KB): 4464, committed (KB)
    66976, memory utilization: 6%
(About 4.5 hours later) Warning: the available page file has dropped below 4Mb. It is at this point – seemingly – that the memory usage has jumped up to near 100%.
The virtual server has 8G of RAM allocated. However, within the vSphere Client, the Memory Granted and the Memory Consumed seem to be at the same value…meaning that
the consumed value seems to be at 100% under normal operating conditions. Not sure why that is.
If anyone has any recommendations or areas to look, we would certainly appreciate your assistance! Thanks in advance.
    Tony

I thank you guys so much for the rapid response! Please forgive the delayed response. All of this is on a DoD network and I cannot post to blogs on government machines. I have to go to a private

There is also a series of MEMORYCLERK and CACHESTORE errors following

We are using Windows Server 2008 R2. I don’t believe that there was an x86 version released but I could be wrong.
I’ve actually looked at enabling the LPIM but we are on a domain that we have no control over and there are GPOs that make it very difficult if not impossible to gpedit but that is something
we can certainly look into with the domain owners if you think it might help.
I just ran the following script in SQL:
    Exec sp_configure ‘AWE’
    The response is  name – awe enabled, minimum – 0, maximum – 1, config_value – 0, run_value – 0
There is no third party software on this server.
The Max Server Memory is set to 5GM
Again, I do appreciate all of your help. Please let me know if I can provide anything further.

  • Creating MS SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services OLAP connection

    Hello,
I am trying to add an OLAP data source in BI Publisher (which is part of the OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 suite I have installed). However, the connection never seems to create - I don't get an error or a success message when I test the connection. However, if I cancel out of the create connection screen, I get this error: "Your request was denied as you have no permission to access the data.". This is odd since the credentials I am using have admin rights to the OLAP cube I am attempting to connect to.
    SETUP
    OBIEE 11.1.1.5.0 x86_64 bit Linux
MS SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services running on Windows Server Enterprise (32 bit) 2007 SP2
Windows users are able to connect to the Windows/SQL server via Excel 2007 and its built-in Analysis Services "Other Data Sources" option. Authentication is done via Windows Active Directory LDAP
    QUESTIONS
    1) In the BI Publisher connection screen, can I enter my AD username/password, or because I am connecting from a Linux Server, do I need to authenticate via a different method?
    2) In the connection string, the initial catalog I am attempting to connect to has spaces in its name. Could this be an issue?
    3) Given the "no permission to access data" message I am getting, is it possible I am reaching the SQL Server but need to set up a local database, non-AD account to access the OLAP catalog?
    4) Are there any logs in the OBIEE server that I can check for more details?
    Thanks!

With the new productivity pack for Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 (Service Pack 2) you can access SSAS 2005 through the new OLAP tool called Voyager.  The productivity pack is due out sometime in the next few weeks.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
Following solution might help you to resolve the issue.
    Solution1:
Issue happens because universe connection to the Database is not responding and the Data Source Name is not configured to write SQL Server 2005 database.
    Resolution
Created new DSN connection under SYSTEM DSN to SQL Server 2005 Database.
Import the universe from the designer.
    Go to File->Parameters.
    Edit Connection.
On the Database Middleware Page expand SQl Server 2005->Select SQL Server 2005 driver.
Change the DSN to new DSN connection
    Test the connection.
Save the Universe and Export it to the repository.
    Solution2:
I am taking Oracle as an example over here.
This can be caused when the SQLNET.ora is located in a remote location using mapped drives.
    Resolution
    To resolve,
check the registry [HKLM\SOFTWARE\ORACLE] you should see a folder called HOME0
look for any paths that contain a mapped drive partition
Change the mapped drive letter to a UNC path (
    server\folder)
Open a command prompt and do a tnsping using the tnsname and verify the location of the SQLNET.ora or TNSNAMES.ora
If the path is not updated to the new path
    Reboot the server

  • Upgrading report from CR8.5 to CR10 and connecting to new server

    Post Author: jnicholsDME
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
We have numerous reports (50+) with various subreports that are used by our enterprise accounting system (MAS500).   We recently upgraded to a new version of this program.   The upgrade required that we upgrade the reports to CR10 from CR8.5 in order to render them in the program's runtime engine.  All of these reports now live on a new server and are pointed to a SQL2005 db on that new server.  I had to reset the datasource (we're using an ODBC connection) on all of the reports to point them at the new server and database.   However, the SQL queries seem to still reference the old database (which was on the old server).    The reports run fine inside of the accounting system, however, if we unplug the old server the reports take approimately 1 minute, compared to 3 seconds with the old server plugged in.    Even editing the report in crystal, it takes approximately 1 minute to open the report in Crystal designer if the old server is unplugged (as opposed to 2 seconds with it plugged in).    Despite setting the datasource it seems as if something in the report is still trying to resolve itself to the old server.     Another strange thing is that even when the old server is turned on, the sql database the reports previously referenced is OFFLINE.  Despite reset the datasource, when attempting to verify the database the reports bring up a dialog saying a table from the old database can't be found, and this reference is still visible in the SQL query inside of crystal.   Unfortunately, I can't edit this query, or I'd probably be able to resolve my issues.  Any ideas?   Rewriting these reports would take weeks.

    Hello,
What edition of Crystal Reports 10 do you have?  You have to have CR 10 Developer or Advanced Developer.  CR 10 Professional and CR 10 Standard are not development level products and do not install development components into VB6.
Open CR 10 and go to Help > About.  What is the edition description at the top?  If it doesn't say CR10 Developer or Advanced Developer you have your reason.
    I hope this helps!
