Upgrade to Tiger again on duplicate from backup Timely help needed.

Hi I was having problems with my Mac so I upgraded my internal drive.
I'm having the same problems again.
When repairing the disk report says invalid leaf ount should be 2481 instead of 657.
Also report says 1 HSF disk was repaired but one disk couldn't be repaired, I only have one internal drive.
So I archived & install again from by install disk but now i'm back to 10.3
My email have all gone but I am recieving mail & my accounts are all there.
My browsers & Skype are not working nor Superduper which is what I used to duplicate my drive before archiving.
Now I'm wondering whether to upgrade to Tiger again using the upgrade disk & not mind loosing my mail as it's on Gmail. Or whether to duplicate my drive back again from the backup & get my mail back.
Or if I need to do an erase & install at this point.
Any suggestions?
I also have a Leopard upgrade disk that I haven't used yet but was thinking to not add too many variables & stick to Tiger for now.

No. If you have a recent clone, that will suffice.
So erase & install from the original install disk to 10.3 that archive & install to Leopard?
Actually, you can boot from the Leopard disk to do this. Here's how:
Formatting, Partitioning Erasing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
• With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
• Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
• Select language
• Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger and later) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
• Click on Options button
• Select Apple Partition Map (PPC Macs) or GUID Partition Table (Intel Macs)
• Click OK
• Select number of partitions in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
• Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
• Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
• Click Partition/Apply button at bottom of panel.
• Select Erase tab
• Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
• Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
• Click Erase button
• Quit Disk Utility.
Once your HDD is clean you are ready to install Leopard. You are still booted from the Leopard disk, so start here:
• Launch Installer and begin installation.
• Select installation option
• Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Optional: Check box to install X11 (Tiger and later) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
• Proceed with installation.
• After installation computer will restart for setup. During the setup you will be offered an option to migrate your stuff from backup using Setup/Migration Asistant. Unless you want to do it manually, this is where you migrate.
• After setup, reboot computer.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select First Aid in main panel.
• Click Repair Disk Permissions.
• Connect to Internet.
• Download and install Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update
Computer will restart.
• Repair Disk Permissions as previously.
• Go to Apple Menu > Software Update.
• Install all updates.
Computer may restart after updates.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select First Aid in main panel.
• Click Repair Disk Permissions.

All of this should be on your computer as you should be syncing regularly to your computer.. Just sync it back.

After upgrading to Tiger, freeze after waking from sleep on PM G4

My experience with Tiger in the past week as not been great. The reason I upgraded was to get iSync 2.1, so that my Moto E815 phone could be sync'd with my OSX AddresBook and iCal. This wasn't possible with the latest version of Panther.
So, I upgraded to Tiger 10.4.3, and now my G4 freezes immediately after waking from sleep. After pressing the 'return' key to wake the computer, the G4 sends a signal to wake the monitor, but on top of the screen saver is a black text box which states there was a problem I must press (and hold) the power button to restart the Mac. It's written in four languages.
When I installed Tiger, I used the 'archive' option.
My computer is a bit of a FrankenMac: Originally a G4/350 with AGP, upgraded with a Sonnet 1GHz G4 processor card, 1.12GB RAM, a 160GB HDD, an nVidia GeForce3 64MB AGP video card, Samsung DVD/CR-RW drive (Patchburn3) and a Belkin PCI card with 2 additional Firewire ports and 3 additional USB 2.0 ports. When I performed the upgrade, I had the keyboard and mouse plugged into the case USB 1.1 ports, a Logitech Notebook Pro USB camera plugged into the other case USB 1.1 port, and a D-Link BT120 USB->BT adapter plugged into one of the three USB 2.0 ports on the Belkin PCI card.
When I check the Console logs after the rebooting, I see a kernal panic in the panic.log. Apple has received this a number of times from me in the past week as I keep sending them 'talkback' logs after the fact.

I suspect the problem where the USB devices are started, because I had that Bluetooth adapter plugged in at the time of the upgrade. I'm speaking of the lines in the log which start with 'USBF'. The keyboard and mouse are useless when the black screen shows up after waking from sleep.
I've tried some of the suggestions I've found for the iBook 'wake from sleep' postings on macfixit.com and here - resetting NVRAM and removing a few of the .plist files. This didn't seem to help.
I would greatly appreciate help in resolving this issue. I've been a Mac owner since the original Macintosh (it's still in my house) and am frustrated that this is the first problem I've encountered.

Thanks. In fact I had bought a new keyboard and mouse (Macally) and sure enough, if I unplug it before it reboots, the CD drive door stays closed and I can boot from a CD! I did not try any of the other stuff. Is there any way to get it to stop this? Why does a USB peripheral cause the CD to eject anyway? Would love to know!

Upgrade to tiger, can't print from any app

Hi All
I normally fix my own problems, but this has me stumped.
I've upgraded to tiger and done a software update to 10.4.7.
Now I can't print from any app.
I've done the "reset printing system" but this hasn't worked.
All my printers are ethernet networked, no USB.
At this time of writing, I have just managed to print from indesing CS2, but nothing else, mail, textedit, acrobat, none of them work...
...Don't suppose anyone has any ideas?
PS, when I attempt to print, my app is quit and I have to relaunch.

I had the same problem when I upgraded to Tiger. I have a HP PSC 2175 All-in-one printer. I solved my problem by uninstalling the HP printer software, emptying the trash, restarting, and reinstalling the HP printer software. I also installed the lastest HP printer driver, which I downloaded from the HP website.
I repaired permissions after doing all that, and now everything seems to print fine.
I suspect the same steps might work for other printers, as well.

Macfixit also has a tutorial for troubleshooting printer problems. I have not tried any of the solutions which involve downloading troubleshooting software. Maybe someone else here can say whether the software mentioned in the article works well or not. HT201269 I bought a new 4GS and I'm trying to restore my apps and such. I've gone through the 'restore from backup' process twice and iTunes still wants to set up as a new phone or restore from backup. Help?

The title tells you my predicament. I can't put music and such on until I get past this screen in iTunes.

If iTunes is on the computer is giving you the option to 'Restore from backup' or 'Set up as new phone' then select 'Set up as new'
Basically, it's you telling iTunes that this is the first time this device has connected. You won't lose anything, and you'll then be able to sync.

Upgrading to Tiger 10.4.3 from 10.1.1 --Can be done?

I know "a brody" says only 10% of 1% of Mac users are heard here on posting pages (indicating the all the rest presumably have no problems -- or have really good tech support), but the fear of god (or crash) has been planted in my mind.
As my system info below indicates, I have a Power Book G4 that came preloaded with 9.2, which got updated to 9.2.2. and also came preloaded with OS X 10.1.1. with Classic.
I have NEVER used OSX since I have been perfectly happy in 9.2.2 until this year when Turbo Tax requires OSX 10.2.8 or higher. Since Tiger is all I can now purchase, I have done so.
I have spent countless hours pouring over the sites here to prepare myself, but have not yet found specific info for my situation.
Can I go from 10.1 to 10.4.3, and am I going to run into all the firewall problems that I have been reading about? Is there anything I should do
to prepare my HD for the upgrade process? I have backup of my files and photos but not all my applications -- some of which came preloaded and
for which I do not have disks. Should I purchase a larger zip drive and backup my whole HD?
And at this point, maybe it would be cheaper to go to H&R Block....?
But seriously, I am still using Internet Explorer and would like a more
secure way to connect to Internet, though it looks like security upgrade
10.4.5 may be an even bigger headache for a non-techie such as myself.

You should have a complete backup drive that is bootable, before you make any changes to anything. A backup drive is a wonderful insurance policy against any and all sorts of problems that can and will occur.
That said, my question to you is: Is 9.2.2 on a separate partition from OS 1.1 in your G4 PB?
If so, it is a no-brainer to install Tiger on the OS X partition. The installation process will spoon-feed you as to what to do at each step.
If only one partition exists, and your hard drive is large enough, you could backup your OS 9 System Folder, Apps, etc., on an external FW drive. Then partition your PB drive in half, one for 9.2.2 and the other for Tiger.
This will let you boot into OS 9 when you want/need to, and will provide OS x with a source for the Classic function.
As far as "running into problems" is concerned, it is highly unlikely. Your OS 10.1.1 has not been used, so there is nothing that you will want to carry over from it to Tiger.
I would use the Archive and install option, which will replace the 10.1.1 System with the 10.4.0 System, including all applications, and give you a Previous System Folder. This contains all of the unique remnant of your original system, in case you find you are missing anything important from the old system. You can scrap it after a week or so if you haven't found a need to rummage through it.
Choose the Custom installation, as it gives you the opportunity to choose what printer "drivers" you want to install, to the exclusion of the others, and which languages and which fonts to install. Otherwise, your drive gets filled with data you will never use.
Take your time doing the installation, looking at every tab and button available. It will save you time in the long run, and will help you learn about X.
Whatever you decide, get that backup drive and start backing up regularly.
Post back here with the results of your endeavor. It may help someone else.

Upgrading to Tiger Via Disk Mode from iMac i7

Hi I have an old iMac G3 600Mhz (Summer 2001) that I use for old OS 9 games and some low end Mac OS X PowerPC games. It currently just has OS 9.2.2 and 10.1.5 on the same partition that I can dual boot, esentially just factory settings + basic apple software updates.
I've currently been interested in upgrading the OS X to Tiger and its officially meets the system req. for Tiger. However it only shipped with a CD-RW and not a DVD Drive. I Know apple did a CD replacement scheme for Tiger but this is no longer an option and the CD Versions seem to be rarer than rocking horse whatsit.
I have noticed various websites talking about using another machines disk drive via target disk mode to install from the DVD but from what I gathered they were using an older PPC based mac and not an intel one. And they were also talking about the Mac they were installing from rebooting from the DVD and I dont think my mac will like that as I would be installing via a iMac i7.
I dont want to jump in and purchase something off of eBay or some such with out clarifying some things
So my question is...
Is it posible to use an iMac i7's DVD Drive to install Mac OS X Tiger on to a iMac G3 via target disk mode? And Would this affect my Dual booting?

I have a PowerBook G4 which tells me that Target Disk Mode only allows an internal hard disk drive to appear on other machines—any CD or DVD I insert into the PowerBook G4 remains hidden to another machine that is connected to it.
So I'd say that it is not likely that you can use Target Disk Mode to publish a CD or DVD to another Mac... but I could be wrong on that matter considering how old my PowerBook G4 is (Early 2003).
However, you can make a disk image from the CD or DVD and save that on the internal hard disk drive, which is exported through Target Disk Mode to the other Mac. You can get the other Mac to open the disk image and then have it mount on the desktop of the other Mac. But that assumes that the other Mac is up and running and you don't want to replace its system software... maybe not a good solution for you.
So the last resort could be:
1. back up your entire Mac that is going to be in Target Disk Mode (called a TDM Mac herein).
2. make a partition on the TDM Mac to copy the entire DVD contents to. This partition will serve as a boot partition for the second Mac connected to the TDM Mac via Firewire.
3. Make a disk image of the DVD and save it on the TDM Mac somewhere (not in the partition you have just created, though, in Step 2).
4. From the disk image, restore it to the new partition created in Step 2 on the TDM Mac.
5. Boot the TDM Mac into Target Disk Mode.
6. Reboot your second Mac and hold down the Option key: this should present a list of disks to boot from, and the new partition you created in Step 2 should appear in this list. This partition should contain the DVD image you want to boot.
7. Select the partition containing the DVD image and install away!
Caveat: I have not tried the above, and be sure you back up the TDM Mac before you make partitions, etc., just in case.

Can't upgrade to Tiger on my iMac... please help!

I've purchased Tiger and tried to upgrade onto my iMac, which currently runs on OSX 10.2.8
I load the DVD into the DVD drive and all runs well, until right at the end, when it says its met an error in the upgrade, and you're prompted to restart and the upgrade process starts all over again.
Am I missing something here...?

Restore DB from backup with move - need to set to single user mode first and then reset to multiuser?

Im going to restore a recent backup from a production server DB to a test server DB and I want to do it through tsql. The DB already exists on the test server, I just want to overwrite it with a fresh copy. There may or may not be some activity
on the test server that is connected to the database, but its not important and can be abandoned/discarded.
This is what Im getting ready to do
First, get an idea of what the file paths are specified in the backup file
RESTORE FILELISTONLY FROM DISK = 'file_back_to_backup here .back .dat etc'
Then, set the DB to singleuser mode, and discard any connections/transactions currently started
ALTER DATABASE MyDBName
SET SINGLE_USER WITH
ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
Then, do the restore, specifying the paths to the mdf/ldf files that already exist.
RESTORE DATABASE MyDBName
FROM DISK
WITH MOVE 'db logical name' TO 'new data path .mdf', MOVE 'log logical name' TO 'new log path.ldf';
Questions:
(1) If I specify the data and log file paths as ones that already exist, will they be overwritten? This is what I want, as I just want to copy the prod db over to the test server.
(2) Do I need to explicitly reset the DB back to multiuser mode, or does this happen after the restore?

1.Just restore the backup with REPLACE command and it will overwrite the current database.
2.No , database will be automatically put to Multi user mode if you are restoring with recovery
3. Single user script is fine .Change restore script like no need to use with move option

Restoring Memos from a backup file - Help needed

I lost my memos in a crash and need to restore them from a backup file. The Blackberry Desktop Software has the Memos "Dimmed" and the software says "Dimmed entries are read-only data types and cannot be restored". This makes zero sense.

Duplicate invoice. Query help needed

We need to build a query which addresses the following condition
Some of the invoices were created against the wrong vendors and that money needs to be recovered. Some of them are already recovered while some are not
* list out all the duplicate invoices between a particular date range(invoice date) with same invoice num ,same invoice amount and same invoice date.
* If there are any debit invoice created(invoice number postfixed with CR or ADJ),those particualr invoices should not be included.
The table below shows two type of invoice, the one with bold(invoice num=193666) has debit invoice created and all the three records related to it should not be a part of output data
while the record(invoice num=00017321) should be a part of output data.

Can anybody share their thoughts on how to modify the query above which checks if there are any debit invoice created and not include in the final output.

HT1657 Rentals will not delete from my iPad - Help needed - please

I tried downloading 4 movies before a trip - 2 were successfully downloaded. The other 2 were not. So once I reached my destination and hooked up with the wifi I attempted to down load again only to be told that I do not have room. So I bought more storage only to see that the movies still will not compltely download. When I returned from my trip I plugged my iPad into my computer thinking, surely this will either get it down loaded or cleaned out of my iPad, but nope they are not showing up as a rental purchase and I still cant get the movies to download they are stuck at "Processing" about about 95% shown on the download bar. Anyone know how to fix this? Because of this problem I cant download any other thing to my iPad and I am getting super frustrated. Oh I did a hard shut down aslo... PLEASE HELP!!

After searching and searcing I found that a suggestion to:
setting > general > reset > reset location and privacy
it worked...
i just had to reinstall the app from the app store.

Launching Browser From Swing Application - Help Needed

Hi,
I am opening a HTML file in Internet Explorer from my swing application.
I am using the code given below

The HTML file is opening up,but it always opens behind the swing application,that makes me every time to maximize the HTML file after it being opened up.
I want to open it in front of the Swing Application.

Publishing web from different computers, help needed

Hi,
I've just read this but further assistance needed : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2548
Wanna work on my web from different Macs, so I followed the guide line to copy out the "domain" file from my company's machine then move it home. After working with my Mac at home, I tried to publish it to Mobileme.
But I found counter I put on the front page isn't working anymore, so does anyone here knows how to solve it?

Also, test your site to ensure that the files are being uploaded. Try selecting ftp to a folder option in iWeb instead of ftp to MobileMe and open your site on your desktop to see if the hit counter shows up there.

Upgrade to Tiger again on duplicate from backup Timely help needed.
