Upgrade to Windows 8 from downgraded Windows 7

Hi,
I just received my Lenovo X1 3rd generation (downgraded to Windows 7pro from the box).
I would like to upgrade to Windows 8.1pro (I am supposed to be able/allowed to do it).
Unfortunately I cannot find a solution except ordering a recovery DVD (http://www.lenovo.com/lenovorecovery) which will take 2 weeks (!?!).
Tell me there is a solution to simply download an iso somewhere...
Thank you very much!
Notes:
- No key was included in the box. Only a piece of paper with the link to order recovery DVD.
- I live in Switzerland.
- If I go through windows.microsoft.com, the installer ask me to buy the OS.

Hi,
Since you're already licensed for Windows 8.x and want to do a clean install, try this:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media
Select the same version as the original license (presumably 8.x Pro since you had downgrade rights to 7) and it should pick up your key automatically.
After the clean install you can install and run Lenovo's System Update.  It should pick up the appropriate Lenovo drivers and software.  You can select which you want to install. (You may need to manually install a NIC or WLAN driver first to get web access.)

"I bought a ThinkCentre M83 which had a downgraded windows licence (windows 8.1 pro downgraded to windows 7 professional)." -
"... Now you want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 that was originally offered when you purchased the computer.  The only way that I am aware of that would be possible is to purchase a retail version of the newer operating system. "
I would say either you did not understand it well / or you gave the wrong info. If Lenovo Think(Pad/Centre) has Windows 7 Pro downgrade preload (but Win 8 / 8.1 Pro licence):
    - user gets media for Windows 8/8.1 Pro included with your Think(Pad/Centre) (I think until December)
    - or now you must order it here (free if entitled)

  • I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista but my iTunes will no longer work.  It says file can not be located when I try to play a song.

I recently upgraded my operating system from Vista to Windows 7.  Ibacked up all of my music on an external hard drive before I reformatted my computer.  I have reloaded iTunes several times and attempted to transer my files back to my computer.  Everything appears to transfer but once I remove the external hard drive I get a message stated file cannot be located.  What am I doing wrong?

I just posted a similar question -- five months later.  Did you ever find a solution?

  • HT204150 After upgrading to Windows 8, in my Outlook 2007 Contacts I now have "Contacts in iCloud" and "Contacts from iCloud".   How can I merge the two into one Contacts list.

After upgrading to Windows, in my Outlook 2007 Contacts I now have "Contacts in iCloud"  plus "Contacts from iCloud".  How can I merge the two to avoid duplication.

    Hi Ingo 2711,
Thank you for your suggestion.  I backup on itunes. I went to itunes, deleted syncing my contacts, then re-synced them. But the Facetime capability option continues to be there on most (not all, for some curious reason) of my contacts. I am not sure I posed my question correctly.  I want to be able to FT with my family, so don't want to delete the FT capability totally from my iphone and ipad. But I don't want all these other iphone calls from various contacts to ring on my ipad as FT calls.  I want a way to select with whom I have FT capabilities. Any further suggestions? Thanks much, trekpal

    Hi,
According to your description, Windows 8 Operating System installed on your computer, right?
Did you update to Windows 8.1 via Windows Store?
If yes, follow Cyber_Defend_Team's suggestion, check if your computer meet the prerequisite.
After that, try to install Windows 8.1 for test.
If the issue persists, according to this blog to troubleshoot:
Something happened and the install of Windows 8.1 can't be completed. (And now you're annoyed)

  • Steps to upgrade my Oracle version from 11.1.0.6 to 11.2.0.1 in windows.

Can anyone help me with the steps to upgrade my Oracle version from 11.1.0.6 to 11.2.0.1 in windows.
    Thanks in advance.

If you are going to upgrade, you should upgrade to the latest 11gR2 patchset (currently 11.2.0.4). At a high level -
    1. Install 11.2.0.4 into a new separate ORACLE_HOME - see MOS Doc 1562139.1 and Contents
    2. Apply the latest 11.2.0.4 PSU bundle available for Windows - see MOS Doc 1454618.1
    3. Use DBUA to perform the upgrade - MOS Doc 870814.1 and Contents

  • Help! Need advice on how to upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows 7 Evaluation Copy: Build 7100

I am on an HP Pavillion Media Center m8200m PC.  The computer came with Vista on it and did not come with any Vista operating system installation discs when I bought it.  I did make a set of two system recovery discs from this original Vista operating system,  About 3 months ago, I decided to put on an evaluation copy of Windows 7 (Build 7100).  In order to do this, I had to remove Vista completely from my computer and then install the the Windows 7 evaluation download from Microsoft.  It has worked fine since, but will expire shortly.  I now want to put on a permanent installation of Windows 7, but am unsure how to do this.  Can someone please explain the procedure to me.  I have read that I cannot upgrade to anything directly from the Windows 7 evaluation copy.  Do I need to recover the computer and install Vista from the recovery discs  (providing I can reinstall Vista from these recovery discs), then upgrade to a permanent version of Windows 7 (from a less expensive Windows 7 upgrade).  Or, will I have to buy a full version of Windows 7 and start from scratch?  Also, is there a way to retain all my data on this computer during this new installation of Windows 7, or will I lose averything including programs, data, etc. and have to reinstall it once I have the new permanent operating system on the computer?
I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but can't seem to get a straight answer.  I want to do this as soon as possible, so would greatly appreciate a straight, clear explanation of what to do.  I would truly appreciate it.

It is possible to upgrade the evaluation version to the RTM version with some fiddling as shown here.  It would be better to do a clean install.

I'm not a "Cloud" member. I just upgraded to Lightroom 6 from Lightroom 5. All was working well yesterday. Today Lightroom will not open (Windows 7). I see the logo photo over my Lightroom platform but nothing loads and I see "Lightroom not responding." I checked the catalogs and see that lrcat-Journal and lrcat-Lock have been created every time I try to open. I have a backup from the first day I upgraded, but Lightroom doesn't want to access it. Should I reinstall?

Well, is the catalogue (and the folder it is in) writable? Have you actually checked the permissions? Lightroom won't be spitting out the error just to tick you off, and - computer wizard or not - this sounds very much like something you'll have to fix at the OS level: it's probably nothing to do with Lightroom or those funny lads at Adobe.

recently "lost" a purchased song, (Plus the accompanying artwork) from my i-tunes library, after upgrading my O.S. from windows XP to windows 7.
Is there any way to get the original song back, or, at least, re-purchase it?... I tried to do the latter, (It's still available in the itunes store) but, when I clicked on the buy link, I was informed that I had already bought it and was only given the option to, either, copy the link or send it to Facebook/Twitter
I also, inadvertently, deleted a couple of default playlists (Notably recently added) while attempting to get the song back.
Can someone out there, please, help me out. with the solution(s). (preferably step by step if possible, as I'm a bit of a Homer Simpson when it comes to this sort of thing) .. Doh!! :-(

    Hello, MrKite549.
Here is an article that will walk you through download any past purchases that are missing from your iTunes library.

  • Can i upgrade to windows 8.1 enterprise from 90 day evaluation version

can i upgrade to windows 8.1 enterprise from 90 day evaluation version? as our company has volume license key for win 8.1 enterprise purchased

    yes you can.
Skip Product Key Input in Windows 8.1 Setup
To achieve our objective, we need to edit the ei.cfg (edition configuration) file present inside the
/sources folder of the ISO image. All we need to do is to provide the version details inside this file so that Windows Setup is not needed to ask for a product key to install the appropriate version relevant to that product key.
If you are going to install Windows 8.1 using a USB drive, transfer the installation files to the USB and then proceed to step 2. On the other hand if you need to create a DVD, open the ISO using a utility such as MagicISO so that the structure is not affected.
    Browse to the /sources folder.
Look for the ei.cfg file and open it in a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++ (preferred). If the file doesn’t already exist, create a new text document and rename it as ei.cfg
Now amend the file depending on the version which is included in your particular copy and the version which you want to install. For Professional edition which will be the best bet for most of the users, paste the following context into the
ei.cfg file. Make sure that anything that already exists in the file should be cleared first.
    [EditionID]
    Professional
    [Channel]
    Retail
    [VL]
    0
Save the file and run the Windows 8.1 setup again. The setup will not ask for the Product Key anymore.
This is not a hack or anything illegal. The configuration above is supported by Windows installer and is well documented by Microsoft and can also be used on some other versions of Windows as well.

  • Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 on the Yoga 3 Pro

Just what was it like for forum guru XBrav to carry out the upgrade of Windows on his Yoga 3 Pro from Windows 8 to Windows 10? Read on to find out how he found the experience.

I upgraded to Windows 10. I am concerned that the it downloaded poorly, as the opening article in this page suggests. I had real problems: my screen did not tilt correctly as I went from tablet to tent to the keyboard configuration. I lost all touchscreen operations, I had no touch screen at all. Cortana did not work even though she did configure my microphone. Some apps worked poorly; my backgammon game became much smaller on the screen. MSWord did not work at all. It did not go into screen mode when closed, it hibernated and then sometimes did not turn on correctly at all. I reverted back to Windows 8.1 and all is good again. Does anyone have any ideas about upgrading to Windows 10, which I still would like to do? Should I remove the files from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and then go to Command prompt and enter wuauclt.exe /updatenow? Thanx, Queneau

  • Upgrade the Oracle Apps from 11.5.10.2 from windows 32 bit to R12 OEL 64bit

    Hi Frnz,
We are planning to upgrade the Oracle application from 11.5.10.2 from windows 32 bit to Oracle apps R12 OEL 64 bit.
As I go through the Metalink documents and came to know the below Path to proceed with the R12 upgrade for our scenario (2 phase process).
Phase1 - Upgrade in the source windows OS Machine :
    1)Upgrade the Database to latest version of 11G R2 (11.2.0.1/11.2.0.2) [if 9.2.0.8 to 11gR2, refer metalink note 881505.1 & 1265268.1]
2)Upgrade Application from 11.5.10.2 to R12.1.1 in windows Machine
3)Upgrade Application from R12.1.1 to R12.1.3 in windows Machine
Phase2 - Migration Process from windows to Linux:
1)Migrate R12.1.3 Application from *32bit windows to OEL 64bit*. (I could not found the exact document for this Cross Platform Migration)
    Note:
As per the metalink note, we identified that, Oracle 11.5.10.2 Application will not support for the 64bit Linux.
    Reference:

  • Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1: Support and Factory Reset

Hello. With Windows 10 finally out, I'd like to try Windows 10, as it would have the Start Button back (oh yeah), there'll be DirectX 12, and hopefully some compatibility issues of some apps/games would be resolved in Windows 10. I already have a reservation, and while I'm waiting for it to tell me that it's ready to download, I'd want to ask a few things first before upgrading.  [Computer Details: Model: Lenovo G510CPU: i7-4700MQ @ 2.40GhzRAM: 6GBGPU: Switchable Graphics - Intel HD Graphics 4600 and AMD Radeon R7 M265OS: Windows 8.1 Single Language - pre-installed when bought, laptop did not come with any disks] So, to the questions: 1. Will my laptop support Windows 10?1.a. Will Lenovo release Windows 10 drivers (audio, bluetooth, camera, cardreader, energy manager, WLAN, etc.) for the G510? Windows 8.1 has a nifty feature (well at least I think it's nice) in its PC Settings>Update & Recovery>Recovery settings wherein it allows me to Refresh, and,  Reinstall (reset) windows, completely removing files and going back to Factory Settings. Windows 10 is also showcasing the same feature (read it here: http://www.qoncious.com/questions/how-restore-windows-10-factory-settings). So my question then is: 2. Supposing I'd want to reformat my HDD and just get rid of everything, doing spring cleaning (I tend to use a lot of applications and create large files), AND assuming I have installed Windows 10 already, will the "Reset to Factory Settings" option reset my computer back to Windows 8.1 or Windows 10? I'm planning on starting clean when I upgrade to Windows 10, so I don't want to suddenly find out it's rolling back to Windows 8.1.2.a I've also read (here: http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/07/31/how-to-skip-the-wait-for-your-windows-10-update | Skip to Appendix A) users who try to directly install Windows 10, naturally those whose computers are already reserved, when they get stopped at a screen that asks them to enter their product key (which they won't have, since they're doing the free upgrade). Random question, what's up with that?!  I think Windows 10 is great, from what I've read and what I'm hearing from my friends who bought computers already in Windows 10. These are my reservations before upgrading, and it'd be nice that I know what I'm getting into before upgrading. Please and thanks!

    Bump.
