Upgrade to Windows Server 2008 installation fails (reports Services to uninstall but they are not installed)
I am upgrading a Windows Server 2003 to 2008.
When I run the install it completes the Compability check and reports that Sharepoint Services and WSUS are installed. They are not installed and are not running Services either. I have attempted to remove Registry keys for these but this does not resolve
my issue.
Control Panel, Add/Remove does not report these as installed either.
How do I get the 2008 install to continue and ignore these OR how do I "truly" get these "uninstalled" if there is nothing I can do to find out what is reporting that they are installed?
SBS 2003 does contain these feature by default. Is this a small business server OS? If so I'd try them over here.

I have tried downloading (successfully) addons and themes however Windows 7 tells me that there is an error and it does not recognise the software and cannot open it. Therefore am unable to change or add to Firefox. Am also using Word 2010 sxo am not sure whether or not this is causing the problem.
If you didn't install those addons directly into Firefox, use File > Open File... in Firefox to install them.

Windows 2008 Standard SP2 inplace upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1 failing
Hi All,
I'm encountering an issue with performing an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2008 SP2 to Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
Server details:
Virtual machine running on VMware ESXi 5.
Uninstalled AV and backup software
Domain controller also running AD Certificate Services#
UAC disabled
Running setup as a domain admin
When launching setup, the process completes "Copying Windows Files". After a few seconds or being on "Gathering files, settings and programs 0%", an error appears on screen -
Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation.

Generally such kind of issues are caused by third party programs such as CD burning programs, device driver etc.
First please refer to this article to see if there is anything helpful:
Guide for Upgrading to Windows Server 2008 R2
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff972408(v=ws.10).aspx
Meanwhile from the description, it mentioned a file under C:\Windows\winsxs. Check the permission of the folder amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6002.18005_none_676975d87cc9b6e6 and the file wcp.dll to see if the permission
and ownership are correct compare with the other folders.
Also as it provided 2 minidump files, you will need to use WinDBG to read the minidump files and see if there is any further information.

ArvindHi Arvind,
Since I'm not a license expert, for the OEM license issue, I would like to recommend you can connect the vendor.
In addition, I found a similar discussion of upgrading with OEM licnese for your reference:

Things to consider when removing from AD domain a SQL Server 2008 which includes Reporting Services
Do any one have a link to a list of things to consider when removing from AD domain a SQL Server 2008 which includes Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services?
I am taking from an Active Directory domain several servers with SQL 2008 and Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services. The server will stay on its own without association to any domain, the server will keep its IP address and
the server will not change names.
I have done some research and I got the basic steps including, removing the user accounts from the domain, changing the services accounts, changing jobs and databases from being owned by users from the domain. But...
Are there other things in Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services internal databases that have an association with the domain AND that will fail after no longer being in the domain?
I've heard of Reporting Services subscriptions failing when the domain user account is no longer there...Are there any other got ya's that any one has encountered?
Please advice.
Note: I am posting in this forum basically because of what I heard on Reporting Services, but it may be a better idea to post into a more broad forum such as SQL Server Migration section.
Thanks beforehand

I am adding new photos to my PC windows 7 desktop but they are not syncing to my ipad when I sync the Ipad. How can I get these photos into my Ipad?
Skydiver.
you and I know that your answer works because that is how I sync my ipad. I don't have a mac, just a PC with itunes. Now this guy might not even have itunes and is using Windows Media Player or something like that.
Or maybe he just do not want his problem fixed. I read these forums and too many of the questions are just way beyond basic computer knowledge, but it seems to happen that they can never resolve a very simple problem. It makes me wonder if people just post bogus stuff.
I would like to see registration to the forums attached to the product serial number of the forum you are posting to. I bet you that the posts would drop dramatically. -
Upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 fails
I'm trying to upgrade from SQL Server 2008 Express to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. The installation is failing. I get two log files. The first appears to be a summary. The second is an MSI install log file. The MSI log is too large to paste in here and
I cannot attach files, so I included the section where it appears to fail. Based on the log contents below, how can I fix this?

Windows Server 2008 R2 Crystal Report XI Runtime hosted on IIS 7 32 bit
Hi all,
We have discovered that our software department installed Windows Server 2008 R2 in a production environment.
The production environment hosts asp .net applications on IIS 7 that enables 32 bit applicatons to run over it.
We still develope on Windows XP and Visual Studio 2005 using Crystal Report XI runtime.
Reports are compatible and run properly in production environment having enabled application pool of IIS 7 in 32 bit mode.
Is Crystal report XI runtime supported on windows server 2008 R2 hosted on IIS7 32 bit mode?
Regards.
Roberto.Hello,
Where to start.... first thing to do is search, lots of posts on these exact questions...
First, CR XI R2 does not support 4.0 framework, although MS does say it's fully backward compatible but it is not supported on Windows 2008 R2 unless you upgrade to CR XI R2A
https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009114712011E/crxir2sp4_fullbuild.exe
https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009114412011E/crxir2sp6_incremental.exe
Or for a clean PC https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100009114712011E/crxir2sp4_fullbuild.exe
Redist is on our download page.
Second is CR XI R2 is not supported in VS 2010. Only one supported is CR for VS 2010 which you can download from here:
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/crystalreports-dotnet
Bottom of the page has all of the download links for the 32 and 64 bit runtime for your WEB server.
App Pool must run in 32 mode, just in case you are using 64 bit OS.
Lastly, if you are using the SAP Integration Kit to connect to your BEX query then bad news, CR for VS 2010 doesn't have API's available to set the log on on info.
You may be able to use B1, it uses CR 2008 OEM Build and they may support this. Search that forum to see if they do:

Post upgrade from Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 to Windows Server 2012 R2
Hi, I'm not sure if I've done something wrong or if i lack some steps.
We have an existing server having Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 as OS, DC, and DNS. I had to upgrade it based on global standards so I upgraded it into Windows Server 2012 R2.
What I did was an online upgrade, insert the DVD installation disc and it asked for a adprep for forest and domain.
I did both forest and domain adprep and installation continued. After reboot, it showed up errors on my local server. Please see image below:
and when i clicked each roles under Manageability, it shows me
Is there something I need to do to fix these red marks?
Regards,
JeffThese are the logs i've seen inside Custom Views>Server Roles>AD DS, DNS Server, and Administrative Events respectively.

Windows Server 2008 backups failing
I have a Windows Server 2008, fully patched that backups recently started to fail and now, we are unable to open the Windows Server Backup. Also unable to open Disk Management or any other applications requiring Virtual Disk.
Attempts to start VDS from service or command line result in the following errors:
1:
A timeout was reached (180000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Virtual Disk service to connect.
2:
The Virtual Disk service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I added the debuglog to registry and the $vds$.log only records the following:
(PID:8988,TID:10060,17:32:43) ERROR: CVdsLoader::LoadService, 3, hr=8007041D
I have also increased the timeout dramatically to no avail.
SFC /scannow returns:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Nothing requiring Virtual Disk Service will operate making backups and imaging impossible.
Any thoughts?Hi,
As SFC could find some issues (but fail to fix), please try to DISM could help as well:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Fix Windows corruption errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
Also though the following hotfix is not specific for this error, it helps updating VDS components. Please try it and see if issue persists after installing it.
Virtual Disk Service (VDS) crashes when you try to extend a dynamic volume in an NTFS file system on a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows 7

Windows Server 2008 and Crystal Reports 8.5 printing issue
I am having a problem when using the crystal reports 8.5 report viewer ocx (ActiveX) under Windows Server 2008.
When logging onto the server through remote desktop, a report can be shown on screen in preview. When this report is printed, and the user requests more than one copy, the printer only ever prints one copy. Is this a configuration of the terminal server, or simply that the ocx control doesn't cater for it?
I am using the Windows Server 2008 "Terminal services Easy Print" drivers on the terminal server.
Any suggestions would be welcome.Hi Sastry
I can print multiple pages from notepad without any issues. It is only the print from the crystal OCX control that has the issue. It has it's own print dialog box.
Thanks

Upgrade from Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 to Windows Server 2012 R2
Hi, I was trying to setup a new DC for our company, originally it's DC is Windows Server 2003 SP2, we decided not tomigrate it and instead build a new one from scratch which is Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. I was able to set it up, perform windows updates,
added roles, perform Domains and Trusts, etc
When suddenly our global standards shifted to Windows Server 2012 R2, so instead of creating another server from scratch, this is the time to upgrade from 2k8 to 2K12 R2, besides the MAPtool which I've downloaded to check for prerequisites, etc, are there
other things I need to be aware of? backups? etc.
Regards,
Jeff

Upgrade for Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 R2
Hi Guys,
I am having an issue with upgrading one of our Servers. When I try to upgrade the Server it starts the process perfectly fine without any issues, it reboots and displays the Windows Server 2012 R2 Logo and then I get a black screen and it hangs. I waited
around 5 hours today before rebooting the Server and letting it rollback the changes that setup had made.
Original Server Setup
OS: Windows Server 2008 R2
Other Applications: MS SQL Server 2012 with SP2
Removed Applications: Symantec Backup Agen
Hardware: Virtual Server ESXi 5.0
I have upgraded other servers without any issues but they haven't had SQL Server installed on them, so I am guessing that this is the issue but SQL Server 2012 sp2 is Supported by Windows Server 2012 R2. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Kind Regards,
ThomasHi All,
Yes we are running ESXi 5 U 2 I am looking at how much of a pain this will be to build a new VM for this database server, as it contains our Citrix database which we have had issues with in the past. I might end up just leaving this server for the moment
and move onto another server and hopefully not have any more issues.
Thank you all for your suggestions to resolving this issue.
Kind Regards, -
Upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2
Our SAP systems are currently running Windows Server 2003 R2 with SQL server 2005. Microsoft currently has a newer version of Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 in release. Seeing that Windows has a newer OS out for release, would it be recommended that we upgrade our servers to the newer OS and SQL versions?
This is a matter of installing the new software and "upgrading" the database, easy. You can check the upgrade guides at
http://service.sap.com/instguides
--> Database upgrades
Make sure you have the the necessary support package in the system to run SQL Server 2008. I would even go for SQL 2008 R2 which has a better compression, so you'll save space on your harddisk and fewer reads --> faster.
