Upgrade to WLAN 5508

Does anyone know if there is an upgrade path from the WLAN 4402 to WLAN 5508? OR A proceedure to get the AP's to join the new WLAN?
We currently are using a WLAN 4402-50 and have maxed it out. We are plannning on purchasing a 5508 with 250 licenses, but we have AP's in remote locations using HREAP and it would be very costly to re-visit each site.

In the WLC 4400, go to All APs and click Details.  Choose the AP of your choice and go to High Availability.  Put the information of the WLC 5508 and click apply.
Alternatively, if you are tired of doing this on a per-AP basis you can go to Wireless > Access Points >  Radios > Global Configuration.  Under High Availability enter the information of the WLC 5508 and click apply.

  • Upgrading a wlc 5508 from 7.0.116 to 7.4

    Hi
I have a wlc 5508 running version 7.0.116.0 that I need to uppgrade to use the CAP2602I AP. I understand that I need to upgrade it to version 7.0.240 before 7.4.100 to avoid loosing HREAP VLAN mappings, and I have also read that i need to install the FUS image (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_1_7_0_0.html). In what order should this be done? Shlod the FUS image be installed before new firmware ore after firmware or after 7.0.240 but before 7.4?
    /Björn

It can be done before or after. I have always done the FUS upgrade after the image upgrade

  • How to Upgrade (legacy setup) 5508 wlc in HA

How to Upgrade 5508 wlc in HA (both the WLC with permanant AP license only, i.e, without HA license).
    As per
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/7-5/High_Availability_DG.pdf
Both the WLCs have a valid AP Count license
    • The CLI should be used to configure one WLC as the Standby WLC (as mentioned in the
configuration section) provided it satisfies the requirement of minimum permanent license count.
This condition is only valid for the 5500 WLC, where a minimum of 50 AP Permanent licenses are
needed to be converted to Standby. There is no restriction for other WLCs such as the WiSM2, 7500,
    and 8500.
    • AP-count license information will be pushed from Active to Standby.
    • In the event of a switchover, the new Active WLC will operate with the license count of the previous
Active WLC and will start the 90-day countdown.
    • The WLC configured as Secondary will not use its own installed license, and only the inherited
license from the active will be utilized.
    • After 90-days, it starts nagging messages. It will not disconnect connected APs.
    • With the new WLC coming up, HA SKU at the time of paring will get the AP Count:
    – If the new WLC has a higher AP count than the previous, the 90-day counter is reset.
    – If the new WLC has a lower AP count than the previous, the 90-day counter is not reset.
    – After switchover to a lower AP count, the WLC offset timer will continue and nagging messages
will be displayed after time expiry.
    My query is:
How can we upgrade the WLC version in this scenatio (where both the WLC have only permanent
AP License and not the HA license), Is it the same as done with HA controller or some othe procedure?
    Pls comment.

    Thanks Freerk for the comments,
But my query is, What would be the procedure for image upgradation after configuring HA between both the controllers (Primary-Secondary).
Will it be same as with the Primary-HA controller, or do i've to upgrade them individually and
    re-configure HA again.

  • Upgrade to WLAN-standard IEEE 802.11n possible?

I have a MacBook Pro with a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo processor and the OS X-version 10.6.8. What´s to do (if possible) for upgrading to n-WLAN?
    thanx, MiKe

    I don't believe that's possible.

  • Upgrade two WLC 5508 with HA SSO from 7.5.102.0 to 7.6.130.0 combined with FUS 1.9

    The running config is:
    - Two WLC5508's in HA SSO setup running version 7.5.102.0
    - about 130 x 2602i APs
I need to upgrade to 7.6.130.0 using the pre-download feature to minimize the network downtime.
Is it possible to transfer the 7.6 to the controllers and pre-download 7.6 to all APs, then do the FUS 1.9 upgrade and finally start the actual controller upgrade to 7.6.
    So the steps would be:
    1. Transfer 7.6 image to primary controller (do not reboot!), so still running 7.4 as active image.
    2. Start pre-download of 7.6 image to all APs and wait till all APs have the new image (do not know how long it takes for 130 APs).
    3. Upgrade both controllers with FUS 1.9 (HA should upgrade both controllers automatically) (takes about 45 minutes?)
    4. Make 7.6 image the active/primary image on controllers and APs and reset controllers.
If the steps above will not work, I would need to upgrade FUS 1.9 which means 1 hour downtime and then start the pre-download to all APs. The pre-download can take a long time I heard, so I need to wait and wait before I can start the 7.6 upgrade, which means another 1 hour downtime.
This way I need two maintenance windows instead of one. So would it be possible to combine the pre-download and FUS?
    Regards,
    Bjorn

    >Do I need to upgrade the FUS 1.9 before the 7.6 image or can I do the FUS afterwards? If I can do it afterwards, I can do the upgrades in the same maintenance window. This way I can start the pre-download the day before, so I am pretty sure the APs have the image at the time of the maintenance window.
    >I cannot find any remarks about the required order of installation (FUS -> image or image -> FUS).

With the new BIOS 92CN33WW is there now a possibility to upgrade the WLAN of  Yoga 2 11 e.g. by using a new Wireless-AC 7260 module ?
Up to now this was not possible due to the Whitelist in the BIOS.

Yes a 7mm drive fits. I just installed the Crucial MX100 512 GB SSD this last weekend and works great.

  • 1232 ag autonomous to LWAP upgrade and will it support with 5508 will work fine ?

Hi can anybody help me .
we have few sites with old 1232 ag AUTONOMOUS existing AP's , They are  connected through 1 mbps link to main office .
Now we are planing to upgrade with WLC 5508 and few 1140 ap . but we want to use these same 1232ag ap on some sites.
So we need to upgrade it to LWAP .
1>Is it possible to upgrade this model of AP
2>Which is the ios i should download , is it avaliable in cisco site (as this ap is end of sale now )
3>can any body help me how the step to upgrade this autonomous ap

Just to add, the 1230's are not supported on the 7.2.x wlc code. You can however run the 7.0.x on the 5508 to support the 1230's. Also make sure you look at this link, because you might have to add the hash value to the wlc in order for them to join. It depends when the APs were manufactured.

I am planning to upgrade my WLC 4402-50 (HA) to WLC 5508-250 (HA). I also have some really old 1020 Access points that I will be replacing with 1142's. Once I have completed the upgrade to the 5508s, I will repurpose the 4402's as Mobile Anchor controllers to support Guest Wireless.
Does anyone have any actual experience with this sort of upgrade? Any practical suggestions or ideas??

  • WLC 5508 Failure to upgrade code

    Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade a WLC 5508 and I'm getting the following errors:
    TFTP Code transfer starting.
    TFTP receive complete... extracting components.
    Failure while validating the signature!
TFTP Failure while storing in flash!
The image is good and for the right model.  Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello Kayle
both of my controllers are brandnew according to their serial-#: and Leolaohoo's post.
    Controller_1 : FCW1522L021
    Controller_2 : FCW1522L022
    Facts:
    =====
    1. Both are running code 7.0.98.218
    2. Upgrade to 7.0.116.0 (AIR-CT5500-K9-7-0-116-0.aes) failed
Just to be sure, I also tried code AIR-CT5500-LDPE-K9-7-0-116-0.aes, which also failed on both
    3. No firewall or antivirus is active on my workstation
    4. Upgrade was tried via Service-Port as well as management-interface
    5. Upgrade was tried via FTP as well as TFTP
    6. Short after file-transfer has been finished I get the corresponding message and even short after that I receive the message "Failure while validating the signature"
    7. Doing a "show logging", I get the message that the downloaded file seems to be corrupted (screenshot below), but checking the filesize gives me exactly the same size as on the CCO before downloading

  • Satellite L100-108: Upgrade from Intel 3945 WLan to Intel 4965agn

    Hi,
It is possible to replace the wifi card that brought the Satellite L100-108 (Intel 3945ABG) for the one Intel 4965AGN?
Both cards are mini pci-e and the chipset on the motherboard (with the Everest says only that it is Toshiba), is the Intel i945GM.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
Why you want to upgrade the WLan card?
I mean the Intel 3945ABG provide three different WLan standards.
OK, the Intel 4965AGN provides the 802.11 N standard but this standard cannot be used because the WLan card would need 3 wire wlan antenna
As far as I know the L100-108 has been equipped with two wires Wlan antenna which is designed for A B and G WLan standard.

  • DV7-6c95dx WLAN Upgrade?

I have a HP DV7-6c95dx that I am looking to upgrade my WLAN to Wireless AC Dual Band & Bluetooth 4.0.  My current WLAN card is an Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150 612BNXHMW  Which PCIE Half Height cards would work with my DV7-6c95dx?

Sorry that is the video you are going to get with the 2d gen i7 CPU on that motherboard. There is a version of the motherboard with switchable discrete graphics and the only way to upgrade would be to swap to that motherboard. Post back if you are interested in pursuing that approach.

    Hi Remixedcat,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP 2000-412NR Notebook and needing to upgrade the Wlan. Here is a link to Hp Parts. It does not show me that this came with an Intel Lan.
I would need the serial number to give you exactly what would work on your Notebook. Please review the HP Privacy Statement . Then send it to me in a private message.

  • Clients Connect to N AP's on 5508 and get different Transfer rates than on 4404

I have have 2x 4404's (2x) and 2x 5508's all are running 7.0.240.0. When I take an 1142 and associate it to a 4404 I can connect a test client using N at 144Mbps and I can get transfer rates averaging 70Mbps (using iperf tests). When I take the same AP and associate it to a 5508, (same SSID, etc) I connect at 144Mbps but only get average 6Mbps transfer rates. I get the same results with 1252's. I get the same results if I wipe the config on the 5508 and start from scratch. It only happens when connecting at a/n, when I use a b/g AP such as 1132 I connect at 54Mbps on either controller and get transfer rates of 24Mbps. I have enabled disabled LAG (rebooted), moved the 5508 to connect to the same swtich ports, swapped GBICs. The issue happens on both 5508s, TAC has been unable to resolve this and they are confused as well.
Some of the other things I have tried:
•-          You are facing the issue on 5508's WLC only.
•-          Both the WLC and the client reports high connection speed “144Mbps”
•-          iPerf between wireless and wired showed the following:
    on 4400:  [124]  0.0-16.9 sec   154 MBytes  76.5 Mbits/sec
    On 5500:  [124]  0.0-94.3 sec  70.2 MBytes  6.25 Mbits/sec
•-          The AP is the same AP, you just bounce it from 1 WLC to another.
•-          The location of the AP is the same in all the tests, but it can be replicated with an 1142 anywhere on site and get the same results.
•-          The test PC is the same in both cases
•-          The configuration is the same on both WLC’s confirmed visaully in GUI and via CLI outputs and compaired.
•-          The switch is the same, but have tired swapping 4404 and 5508 in data center.
•-          Tried to swap the GBICs.
•-          Used different ports on the 5508 (not just diff GBICs)
•-          Disabled the LAG to rule out the load balancing algorithm.
    •-       Replaced the patch cables
Used same ip space that the 4404 is using without sucess.
Upgraded my second 5508 to version 7.5 and exact same resutls.
    Any ideas?

    Hi

    "802.11b network not disabled"
