    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Mountain Lion has had four maintenance updates to fix issues, and now it works very well. However, this may be different in your computer. Also, note that PowerPC applications won't work after upgrading, so if you want to upgrade, check that your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com Make a backup of your files.
OS X Mavericks will be launched in fall and will include more features > http://www.apple.com/osx/preview You can also wait for Mavericks, but note that it may not be stable with its first version

  • 20" Apple Cinema Display not recognised after upgrading to OS 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion)

20" Apple Cinema Display not recognised after upgrading to OS 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion).
Hello Apple! Anybody there? How long does your community have to wait for a solution?
The same problem has been unsolved for months now. No statements from Apple either.
I was told today to wait for 10.8.3. This might solve the issue. I can not belive my ears.
My MacBookPro 4,1, Intel Core 2 Duo with 2.5 GHz Processor and Graphics chip: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, will not talk to the exter. 20" Cinema Display ( Model Number A1081 ). The screen stays black. Resetting the PRAM did not help. I removed the 'com.apple.windowserver.plist' and the 'com.apple.windowserver.OE35739etc,etcxxxxxxxxxxx.plist', but that did not help either.
Any other solutions, or do I have to downgrade or give up on Apple Computers alltogether after using them for over 25 years?

I found out that I needed a $100 mini displayport to dual-link dvi adapter to make my $30" cinema display work with my macbook pro
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A/mini-displayport-to-dual-link-dvi-ada pter?fnode=51
When I found out that solved the problem, I took it back because that was too expensive for a stupid adapter, and it still didn't work perfectly.

  • I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade

I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade, since I do not have access to the mac store as that comes with Snow Leopard? I went to Best Buy and they said neither Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion can be bought there.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:

  • Trying to Upgrade from Leopard 10.5 to Mountain Lion

Im trying to upgrade my imac model 2008  to mountain lion, (it will support it, I have upgraded the ram and confirmed it the serial # with the apple website to be sure)   Currently its running leopard.  Not snow leopard just leopard.  This is cruital because it means Im still on osx version 10.5, it also means I don't have the app store icon available to me, as you need at least snow leopard or 10.6 to get the app store.
I've tried to upgrade to mountain lion via itunes,
it telling me its not available to me as Im in canada and even tho I know its avilable here itunes doesn't seem to know that.
I think If I can upgrade to snow leopard or lion and get the app store on my imac  I can get around these issues.  I can no longer download snow leopard from apple. Is there a reliable place to get it or to skip over it to lion?
Im not new to computeras at all but my experience with mac's is limited so I want to be sure I do this right the first time.
I need to get to 10.6, is there an easier way to do this than I've outlined?
If anyone could provide any help or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.  A Reliable download location or an alternative work around would be fantastic.

Phone the Apple Store and order Snow Leopard.

  • I am thinking of upgrading my Macbook pro software to Mountain lion, and I just wanted to know if the airplay function is really all its cracked up to be?

I am thinking of upgrading my Macbook pro software to Mountain lion, and I just wanted to know if the airplay function is really all its cracked up to be?
For example can I stream videos from VLC to my apple tv?
    Thanks team!!

    Your question asked.....
Can either of these three connect to the existing router (which is not an Apple router and cannot be changed) wireless?
So we understood that you wanted to connect to the existing router using wireless.
If you can run an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on your existing router to the other house, then you could connect one of the Apple routers that way.
Compare the Apple routers here to find one that might meet your requirements:

Im interested to upgrade my Mac to  OS X Mountain Lion.
If I do so, will OS X Mountain replace my deleted files?
At the moment I'm running Mac OS x 10.6.8

Yes, if it is something that was installed as part of OSX to start with.  If you're missing Onyx, well that isn't part of Apple's software and you'll have to get it from the source.
Depending upon the significance of the application there are ways do a custom installation of software rather than the whole operating system.  I use a much older operating system version so I cannot be very reliable on the specifics.

  • If i upgrade from 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion and do a Time-Machine-Backup, is it possible to restore my mac on Mountain Lion?

If i upgrade from 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion and do a Time-Machine-Backup before, is it possible to restore my mac on Mountain Lion with this Backup made on Snow Leopard?
    Thx guyz

You don't need to restore anything.
Just upgrade.  That replaces Snow Leopard with Mountain Lion, without disturbing anything else.
But by all means, always keep up-to-date backups, in case something goes wrong.

  • Macbook upgraded from 10.5.8 to mountain lion. I lost the update when I tried to restore my old information. How can I get my update back without paying again?

I took my mac to an iStore in South Africa however my country does not have an iStore. Macbook upgraded from 10.5.8 to mountain lion. I lost the update when I tried to restore my old information. How can I get my update back without paying again?

Ok, that sounds like a valid approach...but now the question is, when you say you lost the upgrade when you tried to restore, exactly what do you mean?  Restore from a Time Machine backup, or another kind of backup?  What happened to the operating system when you did that?
If it damaged the operating system, you should be able to recover it by restarting your computer holding either the Option key (should result in a grey screen that shows the macintosh hard drive and a recovery hard drive), or by holding the Command and R keys while starting.
You can use the recovery hard drive to reinstall Mac OS X either way.  If the Option key restart, click on the recovery hard drive to boot from that.
Then with either approach you will have a screen with a drop-down that gives you choices, such as install Mac OS X, Disk Utility, Terminal.  You will want to use Install (or Reinstall) Mac OS X...note, you must be connected to the internet from this point on.
