Upgrade warning: Local flags in collections may disappear for good

So I've upgrade (or rather copied and upgraded) my LR 3 catalog to the newly installed LR 4.
And there seems to be no smart upgrade policy for local flags in collections. They're simply gone.
If you want to migrate, it seems to me that you will have to find a way how to preserve those flags by fiddling with LR 3 first.
I'll probably make two stacks in each collection: picks and the rest. Very cumbersome to manage, but probably the best alternative until Adobe decides to give us some sort of 'picking the best' locally for a collection.

There are going to be differences of opinion whether flags should be global or local to collections. I guess it is a matter of personal work flow and preference. What seems to be lost in all of this is that flags have been local for a long time and we all have developed our use of them with that in mind. I personally group photos by subject into collections and then review them for selection. I flag the picks in the collection as I go through them and then I can pull up just the flagged photos in the collection for later use. It might be to create a CD, a slide show, or whatever. This process often involves a great deal of time comparing variations on the same picture for expressions, focus, etc. Once I make my choice I flag it. I have gone thorough that evaluation and selection process for thousands of photos. Now Adobe is changing this major item with no option to the user to keep the flags local to maintain the structure that has been created under the earlier system.
I am certainly capable of using global flags going forward with new photos, but my concern is the inability to carry forward to LR4 the flags I have already spent hours and hours applying to the catalogs in LR3. I personally would be fine with converting my local flags to global flags, just don't simply throw them away. That is essentially what LR4 does - it thows them away. They represent a lot of time and work to pick the best photos.
I have to beleive there are a lot of people who have used the flags in a similar manner. I do not see how Adobe can make such a significant change to this issue after years of the other structure without any method to at least convert the existing flagging information to the new system. It is precisely this kind of change that makes people reluctant to switch to things like DNG file formats.

  • "WARNING! Your Flash Player may be out of Date. Please upgrade to continue. "

I try to go on facebook, youtube, google or Yahoo, and it's opening a page with an announce: "WARNING! Your Flash Player may be out of Date. Please upgrade to continue. " I can click only "ok", then it opens a page of "FLASH PLAYER PRO", and it would me to download a trojan virus (avira recognized it) called "setup.exe.". I know that is a viral page that maybe is stealing the name of "Flash Player Pro ", but how is possible to stop it? The plug-in on the pc has the same name of "shockawave flash" ; I tried to: cancel cookies, changing antivirus, istalling flash player 13 from the official site, cancelling every adobe flash player of the pc. Blocking the site is unusefull because they have'nt an IP address and they steal the IP address of the site you choose. I've a Windows 7 professional 32 bit and I try with: Firefox, Chroome, Opera, Explorer. Nothing.  Does anybody knows how can I stop it?
I wrote this post in "Installing flash player" because maybe is an installation problem... I don't know.
    Thank you!!

There is no such thing as "Flash Player PRO". Never has been. Never will be.

  • WARNING! Your Flash Player may be out of date. Please update to continue

Can someone please help me. I have contacted Mac support 3 times and no one can help me and was recommended I go onto this forum.
I keep getting a pop up on my Mac, Macbook Pro, iPhone 5 and another MacBook we have in the house. It says "WARNING! Your Flash Player may be out of date. Please update to continue."
I have done a bit of research and a few websites have said it is a Trojan. I have updated flash, reset safari and a heap of other things.
I am not tech savvy and just want this fixed. Someone help.
    Thanks.

    Hello Katie,
Apple frequently flags older versions of Flash Player as out-of-date in Safari, prompting users to upgrade to the latest, most secure version of Flash Player.  The current version of Flash Player is 14.0.0.145.  If you have a version prior to this, you'll need to upgrade in order to view Flash content.  You can also visit this page, http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/, to verify the latest version of Flash Player for your OS platform.
Please note that Flash Player is not supported on iOS devices (iPhone, iPad). I suspect you'll continue to get similar messaging when visiting web sites on these devices that contain Flash content.

  • Automated solution to convert or directly filter based on the discontinued local flags?

    Hi,
I really liked a lot of the LR 4 features and thus upgraded LR and my main catalogue as soon as v 4 was released. While a lot of stuff is very welcome (soft proofing!), I just realized that Adobe has horribly screwed up my workflow by dropping local pick/rejected flags from V4. I really hate this change as it was very useful for me to reject images for a certain collection (but still being able to know that at some point I had considered it to be included). For the future I guess I will have to find another workflow, probably by creating additional "archive" collections...
But the real problem is the literally tens of thousands of images I have flagged as rejected in collections in my big lightroom catalogue. If I go into any of my old collections I see the entire selection including all the rejects. I know I can get a context menu to select all the items that were locally flagged rejected via the "Select Old Contextual Rejected" action. But to do this for several hundred collections is out of the question. (I am not kidding btw, I am a wedding photographer and have about 400000 photos in my catalogue and about 1000 collections).
So my question is: does anyone know of an automated solution to get the old local flag infomration back? I guess it would be possible to write a plugin that creates 3 collections for every collection that used the old local picked/rejected flags (one with -picked, one with -rejected and one -unflagged). Has anyone done this yet? Or create a plugin that can filter based on the old information (as it is still in the database, just not accessible in the UI).
I am a software developer as well as a photographer so if no one has done this yet I might consider giving it a try myself but I would hate to do something that has been done already...
And btw I am pretty angry at adobe for making this a breaking change.
    Best,
    Daniel

To build on John's response: While we're still awaiting the LR 4 SDK documentation and can't say for sure, I'm skeptical that the LR 4 SDK exposes the old collection-based flags, given that the LR 3 SDK didn't expose them.
One solution would be for a plugin to read the catalog database outside of LR, e.g. in the manner of the SQLiteroom plugin.  Accessing the database directly isn't supported by Adobe, but in this case, doing so to do a one-time recovery of legacy data is likely more than robust enough.

  • Persistent Flags in Collections: Allow as Configuration Option?

Great way to start the day seeing the launch of LR4 Beta!
As I'm watching the NAPP training videos Scott Kelby makes a point under the Enhancements section re: "persistent flags" that now carry over picks into Collections.  When I first started using Lightroom (circa LR1 launch) the lack of this really frustrated me.
Until I realized the brilliance of it.
I will regularly make my picks/flags in the Library and then port these selects over to a Collection.  Within that Collection, however, I would review and do sub-picks again (say for a subset of images that would go onto a website, or perhaps for individual selects that would go on for further processing, or those that would be candidates for a book).  This was very convenient and I figured it was the basis of the non-persistent design.  LR4 takes this away.
So with that in mind, while I recognize this new feature will be welcome by many I am hoping you will consider making it a configurable option under Preferences (Flag Persistence: On/Off) if it is not already there.  This way the new version will not interrupt established workflows and users can customize based on their needs.
    Thanks.

Please realize that this is a huge deal breaker for a lot of people. Local flags are essential to the point that I would consider not adopting Lightroom 4 in a workflow because of it. I use per-collection flags a lot to make selections or sub-selections. And I'd say 80-90% of the people I have seen using Lightroom in the last few years take advantage of local flags somewhere in their workflow.
Personally, I occasionally have collections of images selected by somebody else and I want to mark my picks from that collection, or the other way round (i.e. someone picks from my collection) and that should have nothing to do with a global pick or reject status.
Or let's say I have a collection "Candidates for Social Media" and I want to pick the ones that actually go online. With global flags, I can't do that since it affects the status in all collections, for instance in one like "Candidates for Print Ads". Putting picks into a new collection instead of using flags has the huge disadvantage that it doesn't show the selection in context of the original set (plus the target collection keyboard shortcut is a toggle, so unless I go through images strictly in sequence, I am in danger of accidently removing something I wanted to add) and makes it hard to look at alternates, go back and change things etc. Plus it's an additional unnecessary collection that clutters the collections panel and makes it slower to find the relevant stuff. I guess I could probably make virtual copies instead of putting images directly into collections to work around the problem, but I'd end up with several (or depending on the type of images a lot of) completely unnecessary virtual copies that clog up the main catalog. Not a viable workaround.
Anothe major issue is that in the process of upgrading catalogs from previous versions into LR4, all the work that has gone into creating local flags in the old catalog would be completely eliminated and inaccessible. That means quite a lot of work like creating lots of additional collections in the old version before the upgrade if I wanted to bring all the existing data safely into LR4.
Proposed solution: Either support both local and global flags in parallel with different icons (which I would prefer), or make the flag behavior a per-catalog or per-collection preference. But simply changing the behavior of flags to global is just a major workflow issue. In fact, when I first encountered the new system in my LR4 test catalog, I thought I had found a major bug.

Having upgraded to 10.8 some emails are disappearing before I can read them.
They are present for about a second, display as notified, but are not going to junk or Trash.
The problem doesn't affect all emails and seems to be restricted to some senders.

What ype of account is this (IMAP / POP)?
Perhaps it's setup on another system (computer, mobile, etc.) and downloading there, while removing from the server. You may also have email rules moving it automatically or marking as SPAM.
Changing your password may seem drastic but will ensure your current setup is the only one with access to downloading/archival of the email, and you can then eliminate other possibilities as mentioned above.

  • Best way to upgrade the local repository from 11.7.3 to 12.2.3.3 DS 3

Hi, we are going to upgrade our DI 11.7.3 to DS3 - 12.2.3.3 in Sep. I found out there are different ways to upgrade the local repository from the SAP doc and tech support. I try to find a best and safe way to do it. If anyone had experince and inputs on this. It would be great appreciated. It seems there are these options:
we all agree that need to back up the repostiry db, and export the repository to atl file.
    Option 1:
Upgrade the repository during the Data Services installation. But the tech support said there are times where this does not work as expected and Option 2 below needs to be implemented.
    Option 2:
    a) Export the local repository, via 11.7.3 Designer, to an ATL file.
    b) Uninstall 11.7.3.
    c) Create a new database in SQL Server to use with 12.2.3.3. (Optionally, use the existing 11.7.3 database. If you do, make a backup of it before making any changes).
    d) Install Data Services 12.2.3.3 and reference the database created in step "c" above during installation (select the Create option).
    e) Log in to the new local repo, via 12.2.3.3 Designer, and import the ATL that was exported in step "a" above.
    Option 3:
    a. Create a new database u2013 20 MB space
b.Create a new repo in 11.7.3 point to ds_local via Repository Manager (click create)
c.Log in 11.7 designer and Repository import from out.atl
d.Install 12.2.3.3 without upgrde the repostory
e.use epository manager in 12.2.3 to upgrade the new repository

    Hi.
If you import the 11.7 atl into a 12.2 Designer you will face a warning message like this:
"The version 11.7 of the ATL file <c:\export.atl> is lower than the repository version <12.2>.
To update an ATL file, import it into a repository of the same version then ugrade that repository"
So, the correct method to upgrade the Data Integrator 11.7 repository to Data Services 12.2.x is the following:
    - Export the complete Data Integrator 11.7 repository to ATL.
    - Create a NEW Data Integrator 11.7 Local Repository.
    - Import the ATL created in step 1 to the NEW Data Integrator 11.7 Repository. At this point you have two identical local repositories.
    - From the Data Services 12.2.x system, open Repository Manager.
    - Enter the Database connection information to the NEW repository created in step 2.
    - Select UPGRADE, to upgrade this repository to support Data Services 12.2.x.
    - Log into Data Services Designer to start using this Local Repository.
    Regards,
    Leo.

  • Possible bug with Pick flag and Collections

Odd behaviours in v3.3  (Windows) with pick flags in Collections:
Create (or use) a Collection Set which contains a number of different collections
Assign Pick plag to one photo in each collection
Bug 1: Highlight Collection Set and note that none of the images shows the Pick Flag in the thumbnail view. Also Filtering this view with Pick flag fails to pick up the Flagged images
Now return to one of the Collections within the Set and create a Virtual Copy of one of the images that has a Pick flag. (Note virtual copy does not have a flag - which seems logical). Return to Collection Set and (Bug 2) note that Pick flag has disappeared from original image and now appears on Virtual copy.
Something wrong here somewhere I suspect.

I could partially repeat bug 2.
I have Collection Set (Test) which contain to collections: "Collection 1" and "Collection 2". Both Collections contain 4 images.
I selected "Collection 1" and applied Pick flag to all those images. When I select Test (Collection Set) I got 8 images shown,  which none had flags. Ok, this works as expected. I selected "Collection 1" and then selected 1 image and made Virtual copy from it. Lr show me now 4 images with Flag and 1 virtual copy without. Again, works as expected. I now select Test (Collection Set) and I get 9 images (as expected), but one of them, the virtual copy, has pick flag applied. Not as expected. If I go back to "Collection 1" I get four images with Pick flags and one virtual copy without. (as expected.)

  • Quick Collections has disappeared!

My Quick Collections has disappeared. I must of deleted it somehow. ( I know stupid me but I'm just getting use to lightroom.) I"m speaking about the module/panel selection itself, not the files. IS there a way to get it back?
    Thanks

If by disappeared you mean you can't see any photos when you you click on the Quick Collection item in the Library. You probably need to turn off the filtering options. Above the Filmstrip in the middle is the word Filters with three flags to the right. As you click on the flags the program filters based onthe flag you assigned to an image.
If you did remove the photos from the Quick collection, immediatley press the CTRL-Z keys to undo what you just did or Command-Z if you use a MAC.
PS You can't delete the Quick Collection listing in the Library Module.

In fact this happens on some computers. the graph XY causes some trouble when zooming. Sometimes, when I run my main program and open the window with the graph, it has change the displayed it overflows to the edge of the windows. Or somtimes it works but if I zoom the curves disappeared, or is corrupted.
I have this for instance on a computer with win 98 and a ATI graphic board. So I try to update all drivers but noting has changed. I try to decrease the hardware acceleration, and it seems to happen less oftenly.
Does anybody have seen that kind of trouble ?

    > I have some trouble With the graph XY, if I display a curve and try to

    >
I think what you are describing is not due to video driver, but rather
to the way the graph works. The LV graph maps points to integer screen
coordinates and draws lines be tween those point. When the numbers are
way to large to fit on the screen, the numbers are pinned to a special
large value. When this happenson one axis but not the other, it causes
the slope of the line to change and potentially not cross the screen.
If this is the same effect I'm describing, it only takes place when you
zoom into the data by a large extent, pushing the other points about ten
to fifteen monitors away. At this point you are no longer
    looking at
measured data, but rather just on the interpolation of a line between
two points. The solution if you must have one is to resample your data
on the diagram to contain more points.
