Upgrade: what do I need to qualify?

I bought Logic Express a few years ago for a G4 Mac Mini. I then went PC and used FL Studio. I have a new Mini now and want Express on it. What do I need to qualify for the upgrade? The serial number? If I connect the old mac will I find the serial number in the Logic Express > Help > About dialog?
Thanks,
Amy

I actually found my install discs, but still no serial number. Are the discs enough for the upgrade? Do I have to install version 7 first? Can I find my serial number in the installed version on my old Mac?

  • OS upgrade -- what do I need? Currently have 10.5.8

My Mac Book Pro has an OS X 10.5.8. What do I need to upgrade to in order to have the new 10.7 iTunes? When I looked into purchasing the Mountain Lion OS, it said I needed to have 10.6 or later. When I search for software updates, it says there aren't any I need. What do I need to buy?

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.

  • First-time upgrading, what do I need to keep?

    Hey all:
I bought FCS1 when it first came out, and just bought the upgrade to FCS2 for it. When I installed the upgrade version, it asked for the Serial number, I put in the one that came with the FCS2 upgrade disks. Everything installed wonderfully and still works. Cool.
Thing is, I'll be buying a new computer eventually - a Mac Pro in January. I'm curious as to what I need to keep for installing FCS2 on the new computer (I'll be formatting and selling the old one). As I understand it, the FCS2 upgrade disks have the full versions of the software on them, and when I put them in to install, the serial number I should enter is from my FCS1 set. Is this true? Things that give me pause:
    1) When I did the upgrade, I used the new Serial numbers that came with the upgrade disks;
    2) My FCS1 disks aren't Universal.
Is the upgrade serial number only used if I have FCS1 already installed on a computer and I then try to upgrade? If so, then, upon getting my new computer in January, I'll never have to use that number again. Also: what do I do with my old disks? Can they be tossed?
Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if anything is unclear.
    Michael

I have a general rule that I never toss software discs. Especially when I paid over a grand for them.
Are they really taking up that much room, that you need to get rid of them?
Keep them. Keep your paperwork, too.

My reminders are gone from my Ical since upgrade.  What do I need to do to input reminders in Ical and be able to print reminders with my ical.  Thank you

I totally agree.  I just wasted .5 hrs trying to figure out how to manipulate and sync the reminders with the iCAl.  Thanks for posting this thread online, I can stop wasting my time now.  Apple, please change it back or make these apps sync.
Side note.  I was creating my to do list and found the ability to asign a date by draging the task to the calendar in the bottom right.  Then I discovered that I can drag that same reminder/to-do task into iCal and it will be created as an event. Would be great if I could simply sync the reminders to iCal instead of draging them over though.  Then when I make the change in one the other can update with the next sync.  This also prevents human error if I drag and drop the reminder onto the wrong date in iCal.

  • I have been using a WD Passport with Time Machine on my iMac.  Since I upgraded to Mavericks, the backup no longer works.  What do I need to do?

I have been using a WD Passport with Time Machine on my iMac.  Since I upgraded to Mavericks, the backup no longer works.  What do I need to do?
I assume that upgrading the WD SmartWare is irrelevant as it is not being used.  Should I upgrade just as a precaution?
One complication is that I have renamed my user since the last time I backed up.

the problem is with the WD Passport drives.   I also have one, and since upgrading to 10.9 I can no longer use mine either.  See if this solution works for you: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23943103#23943103

While it is iffy as to whether or not it will work with Windows 8, even if you had a full version you would not be able to install it.  You need to acquire a special version of it along with the serial number for it.  See the following:

An exclamation mark means that it doesn't know where you moved the music to.  To fix this, click on the exclamation point and when it asks you to browse to the location where you moved it to, use the normal commands to go up and down folders in your external drive until you find the song.  Repeat as necessary.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...

    Other countries...

After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
    Next...
    Upgrade to Mountain Lion
With Regard to ML...  Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using... Also note that Rosetta is no longer supported in Lion and Mountain Lion...

You should also consider more RAM... Get the Maximum you can for your Mac...
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM

  • What will I need to upgrade my Macbook Pro's HDD to an SSD?

I wanted to know what I would need in order to upgrade my early 2011 Macbook Pro's HDD to an SSD. What should I consider before making the change from an HDD to an SSD? Also what are the pros and cons to making this change - excluding the price of the drive of course.
I have read in some places that changing form an HDD to an SSD will reduce battery life but I am getting mixed information about this because some articles say how it actually improves batterly life.
I also read that a lot of SSDs are incompatible with Macbook Pros and so it worries me that I would invest this much money for no reason. Another thing I am uncertain about is what SATA to get, I believe the early 2011 MBP has SATA III, but I've read that the SSDs don't perform at SATA III speeds.
In short, I don't know much about the specifications, but if you guys can elaborate on them and suggest the right thing to do would be great. Also, what kind of kits or seperate parts would I need beside the actual SSD to do this upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.

Another thought about cloning to an SSD.
I've done my fair share of cloning to new drives to only later sanitize (zero out) it and do a fresh install.  I think cloning is a great alternative for Mac OS's 10.6.X and below, but for 10.7X and above A fresh install is MY preferred choice.
As Bimmer mentioned "if you have unresolved issues with your Macbook, that gets copied over to your new drive when you do a clone...".
Sure it takes a little longer but you'll feel better in the end.  When you take out the OLD drive save it for a few weeks after installing the NEW drive (SSD) just to make sure your new drive is working properly.  That way if the new drive fail just swap them back.
Get all your ducks in a row before you start.
    1.  Solid backup
    2.  Boot disk Snow Leopard and below or Boot USB drive with Lion or Mountain Lion
    3.  Fast Internet connection, either LAN (fastest) or WAN (will work)
I'm willing to walk you through it and sure Bimmer will do the same.  Just let us know when your ready, hopefully you have a second computer to commutate.
    Good Luck!

Here's what I'd do, go back to the Apple store, take the phone & computer. Ask the geniuses how to fix this since they replaced the phone. You never know, they may just update the computer for free...its happened before...can't gurantee it will happen for you, but worth a try.
Otherwise, you're looking at purchasing a retail copy of Leopard, however if her computer can handle Snow Leopard you can purchase the $29 upgrade disk & install a full copy of SL.
