Upgrade windows 2000 t o windows 2005 and sql 2000 to sql 2005

Dear People,
i have not actually done any upgradestill now, i have task where i need to upgrade existing sap system. The sap has already been upgraded, now my task is to upgrade operating system and database
requirement:
windows 2000 to windows 2003
sql 2000 to sql 2005
the above should be done by the procedure recommended by sap only, so im wondering where i can find the information and tools for uprading both O/S and DB.
Help
Raj

I personally would not do a Windows upgrade, Windows can be very picky when it comes to 3rd party SCSI/FC drives you may experience bluescreens during the update after the second boot etc.
I would backup the system and install the operating system from scratch and do a system copy instead.
For your database upgrade, there's a guide at

  • In place upgrade Windows 2008 and SQL 2008

    Hi all,
We are planning to upgrade to Windows 2012 and SQL 2012 , can we take this in-place upgrade path in the following order ?
    Setup 1 Host with 2 VM's running Windows 2008 R2 on Host and Windows 2008 R2/sqL 2008 on VM's.
    1. Host1(running 2 VM's) - In-place upgrade windows 2008 R2 to windows 2012 R2
    2. VM1 on host1 - In place upgrade windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2
    3. VM2 on host1 - In place upgrade windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2 (AD Server)
    4. SQL running VM1 - In place upgrade SQL 2008 with DB/reporting services to SQL 2012 DB/reporting services
All Servers ( including Host and VM's) are stand alone in a workgroup setup.( except one VM a stand alone AD server by itself).
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
If you want migrate from windows 2008r2 to windows 2012r2, you must install windows server 2008r2 sp1.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303416.aspx
For the host 1 upgrade, please refer to the following:
    http://blog.powerbiz.net.au/server-2012/in-place-upgrade-from-windows-server-2008-r2-to-windows-server-2012/
For the SQL in-place upgrade, i think you may need to ask in SQL forums:

    Hope this helps.

I was told something today which is hard for me to believe.  I was told that Windows 7 installs SQL Server as the default instance, such that if you say install Sql Server 2012 Express, it will always be a secondary instance and never the default instance.
I know on the Win 8.1 box i'm typing this on I installed SQL Server 2012 Express as the default instance.  Can someone clarify this for me?

    Hello,
When you install SQL server express its instance name will be Machinename\SQLEXPRESS .After this if you want to install default instance you can go ahead and do that.Generally first instance you install becomes default instance unless you specifically give
    name for it.

  • Windows 7 and SQL Server Compact 3.5

Im trying to connect to a SQL Server Compact 3.5 that I have installed on Windows Embedded Compact 7 (Windows CE basically) running on ARM. I got the DB up and running but I cant connect to it.
Ive read there is no ODBC driver for it. What is the best way to connect to it thru Windows 7?
    Thank you

You cannot connect to SQL Server Compact remotely, it is an embedded, in-process database.
If you can establish a ActiveSync/WMDC connection to your devcice, you can connect using SQL Server management Studio Express 2008 R2 (via the ActiveSync connection)

  • ECC 6/MS Windows Server 2008/SQL Server 2008 Upgrade

I am working with a client who wishes to do an ECC upgrade from ECC 5 to ECC 6.  They also wish to upgrade the Op System from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008; and the database from MS SQL 2005 to MS SQL 2008.
My proposal is to Upgrade ECC, then the Op System then the DB in each environment before moving forward.  We would do the first upgrade in Sandbox to determine timing, issues, etc.  We would create a production support path to be used during the project, then start the upgrades Dev-QA-Prod.
The client has said that this is a risky approach and that SAP recommends a 2 step process, that is, upgrade ECC 6 thru all environments and then go back and do the Op Sys and Db upgrades afterward.
In my mind my approach is less risky as we will ensure each environment is clean and functioning smoothly before moving forward; there is less intrusion to the end user; testing is only accomplished once in each environment.  The actual production build would be split over 2 weekends, app upgrade first then op sys and db.
The assistance I need to understand isu2026.does SAP have a recommendation in this case?  I have not seen anything that says not to do the single step process I am recommending.
Thanks for any support you can provide.

    Hi,
If SAP is recomending that is because They recomends not to "mix" upgrades with any other process like Heterogeneous system copies, DB upgrades, etc. In fact this is in the upgrade guides. But I think like some others here has already writen, that you could upgrade and change OS and SQL server in two different steps but in the same process so the downtime will be longer but it will be only one.
Of course this will depend on how long your upgrade downtime will take because usually the upgrade could take 7 hours more or less, post upgrade tasks, export task (R3load), change OS and SQL server if not using different HW, import task and post copy tasks.
What is the maximun downtime your client is ready to tolerate? If you have a whole weekend beginning from friday afternoon and ending Monday morning probably you will have enough time to do all in one weekend but again, it will depend on your tests. Why don´t you talk to your client and tell them if they have new HW already for this project to do a Prod copy in one of those servers as part of the whole project and take the times you will need. Then with that in perspective you could decide what approach is better.
With some upgrades done under my belt to different clients I don´t assure anything until I do a test upgrade including all changes (os or DB) necesary to finish time schedules, then with that in mind then we can redefine the way we will use and we make that clear before the beginning of the project. I always tell them that it is better to do a test like this if they don´t have much available downtime, the project will take longer but for sure the Production downtime will be shorter.

  • Will Acer Iconia W511 upgrade Windows 10?

I have an Acer Iconia W511, but I am very disappointed when my tablet can not upgrade Windows 10. • Windows 2003 server and SQL 2008

    Hi
Does SAP Business one support windows 2008 and sql 2008 platforms?
When i checked the partner portal it says that these platforms are not supported. Is there any update?
    Regards
    Louis

    Hello Louis,
The only way to determine this is via the supported platforms page in the portal. This is the most up to date, and will include information for the future when this data is available. So for not I would only plan with what information is available.

  • It is compatible Obi 11g  with Windows Server  2012 and Sql Server 2012?

    Hi every
    Please help with two questions.
    1. - Obi 11g is supported on Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012?
There a compatibility matrix which mention compatibility with versions 2012?
    2. - is feasible to install Obi 11g in separate server and install weblogic on another server?
    I appreciate the prompt response
    Regards
    Pedro

    Hi Pedro,
As of November 2012 Compatibility Matrix released by Oracle for OBI 11.1.1.x Windows 2012 and SQL Server 2012 were not supported. It was supported on 2008 Windows and SQL Server.
We can have weblogic and OBI server's on 2 different machines. The approach is to opt software only install. the link below will give more details:

Let me know if this helped.

  • Windows Server 2008/SQL 2008 support?

Does the latest release of Business Object support MS Windows Server 2008 and SQL server 2008?  We are currently running BO 11.5R2 and would like to upgrade to the latest version.  Since we are also upgrading our servers to the latest 2008 versions of Windows Server and SQL server, it would be nice to know if we can install this to our new hardware.
    Thanks,
    Peter

XI 3.1 or later supports both. See the [supported platforms|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/60cdb229-d874-2b10-18ac-ed2f46873753&overridelayout=true] for more info

  • Oracle 9i and upgrade Windows 2000 to Windows 2003

    Hi,
We have a Oracle 9i (9.2.0.6.0 Enterprise Edition) running under Windows 2000 and the OS group is going to upgrade to Windows 2003.
My question is: will Oracle keep working?
I hope so because we are not allowed to upgrade to 10g or 11g and I think Oracle 9i for Windows 2003 can't be downloaded anymore.
    regards,

    Please see your suggested doc
    - Take a cold backup of you existing database before you start OS and DB upgrade .
    - Upgrade the Operating system (refer your OS documentation for detail)
    - Execute 'relink all '
    - Verify that the existing database is working fine with the upgraded Operating system.
    - Take one more cold backup before you start Database upgrade
    - Install Oracle Software (to which you want to upgrade) in new oracle home.
    - Upgrade database (refer the upgrade/migration guide for complete instruction ) *Process To Upgrade the Operating System and Oracle Database Server [ID 407055.1]*
It means you need startup upgrade/migrate.

We have a new project to start upgrade windows 2000 to 2003 or 2008 (Wich it is better ) . As I woudl like to know what our options here .any reference will be more useful .You would need to go with Windows 2003 as Windows 2008 is not certified with 11i -- See (Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes, Release 11i (11.5.10.2) [ID 316806.1]) for details.
I think of cloning option . What do you think ?You can use Rapid Clone to clone the instance from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 as per the following docs.
Rapid Clone Documentation Resources, Release 11i and 12 [ID 799735.1]
Or, you could just upgrade the OS directly, and in this case please make sure you follow the steps in these docs.

  • Having problems downloading itunes 10.5.2; box states windows installer issue. I have a 2005 with windows XP and service pack 2. Any ideas?

Just bought a new ipod touch for my daughter.  It won't sync without itunes 10.5.2 loaded on our computer (a 2005 HP with Windows XP and service pack 2.)  When I've tried to load 10.5.2, I get an error message box stating there is a problem with my Windows installer.  I've tried loading the windows installer hot fix KB942288-v3-x86, but it didn't help.  Any suggestion?

    Hi Lorheak,
thanks for the quick reply. I had the same idea already yesterday. I use Norton Internet Security for a long time now without any problems. I think this a Apple or Microsoft problem, because the popup window which appear come from Windows DEP. I got no message from the firewall with any problem. I check the log files from Norton and Windows already but find nothing. This is a very strange problem. In the past I have had a lot of other problems with iTunes upgrades. Everytime I accept the installation of the newest version I got errors regarding missing "msi" files.

  • SPS upgrade from 18 to 21 due to Windows 7 and IE 8 Release

    Hi Guys,
Our client has decided to upgrade their user's OS from Windows XP to Windows 7. Also the IE will be upgraded to IE8.
We did an impact analysis with a single system for the BW front end. Except a few minor errors, nothing serious troubled the SAP in Windows 7 OS.
SAP has confirmed that for the official support for Windows 7 and IE 8 will require minimum SPS of 21. Thus we are planning for SPS upgrade from 18 to 21.
I am still waiting for the Side Effect Report, I would like to check with you if anyone has encountered any error after Windows 7 upgrade?
Will BEx work even if the OS is Windows 7 and Office is low version such as 2000, 2003.
    Any impact on portal 700?
Appreciate any kinds of input from you All
