Upgrade won't recognize old serial

i currently have Photoshop CS on my macbook pro and have since bought the upgrade version of CS3. when I go through the process to register the upgrade, it prompts me for my Photoshop CS serial. I have entered that but it does not recognize it and will not let me register my upgrade. any ideas??? i'm starting to get a bit angry that i've spent all this money and can't even use these new features.

Where are you copying the CS serial number from?
You have to use it the serial number as it appears on the Install CD. You cannot the use the serial number that appears on the Splash Screen in in Photoshop CS because that number is deliberately truncated by four digits in order to discourage software pirates.

  • Migration Assistant won't recognize old computer

    Hi everyone!
I recently purchased a new MBP 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, running 10.8.3 now. I'm trying to use migration assistant do transfer my files from a MBP 2.8 GHz Interl Core 2 Duo (running 10.8.3 as well) via firewire. I've puchased a thunderbolt to firewire adapter since the new MBP is not support firewire port anymore. However, the two computer was recognized when I was using wireless transfer but not the firewire connection. The wireless transfer was estimated over 80 hrs to transfer the files. After talking with Apple Support, I was informed that the firewire will be must faster. But the two computer won't recognize each other! What did I do wrong here? Please help!

I have the exact same problem. When setting up the new MacBook, I attached the firewire cable and restarted the PowerBook into target disk mode. The Firewire symbol appears on the screen but the MacBook gives the error message "There are no versions of MacOS X available on your old Mac". I wanted to test if it is a problem with the MacBook, and found that the MacBook will recognize and mount a portable firewire hard drive. Furthermore, when I tried attaching it to an intel iMac, it recognized it and was ready to import files from it. Therefore it seems that the problem is that the OS X 10.4.11 on the PowerBook is somehow 'invisible' to the MacBook migration assistant. I tried repairing permissions on the old PowerBook, but that didn't help. In the meantime I also ran software update on the MacBook, which brought it up to the very latest version of Leopard.
Could it be that the version of OS X needs to be the same on both machines? Next I am going to backup the PowerBook, then upgrade it to Leopard, then try again. I am surprised more people haven't had this problem, at least I have seen few postings about it.

  • CS2 upgrade won't recognize Photoshop 5.0 CD or Install

I am reiinstalling after a HDD crash and CS2 which previously worked fine in Win XP, won't recognize my Photoshop 5.0 installation to upgrade it.
It gave me a # to give customer support so they could give me an unlock code per install screen instructions.  Come to find out, they don't support 5.0 and earlier versions anymore.
Anyone have a solution or workaround for this issue?

  • Upgrade won't recognize the hard disk to begin the installation

Powerbook G4 w/ 9.2.2 & the original CD for OS X 10.1 - thought I'd get it on and upgrade from there since I know I'll need to buy more RAM - existing is 385 & I only have 10 G on the system. I downloaded several updates, ran the security update first. The 10.1.1 update won't recognize the hard disk to begin the installation.Thought I had a clue, but stuck in the jungle upgrading. Which one is which - is Jaguar 10.2??? Do I need to be doing each of these upgrades to get it running well until I add the RAM? I'm trying to stay calm since it updated my IE and I think I lost everything I had on it - too fast with the click and assumed they were separate entities....(unless there is a genius out there who can help on that front too)
    many thanks... Kate

Hi Kate! And Welcome To Discussions!
You're lucky Kappy is helping you out with this. He is one of the more knowledgable posters here!
I'm just adding some extra info.
There are two PowerBook models that need a Firmware Update, before you can install a newer OS X.
Check if one of them is yours.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.6 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Jaguar and Panther, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
Jaguar Full Retail Version CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.
More info here Tip: Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs
Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 combo update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final edition of either OS.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the 10.4.6 Combo Update.
You'll find System Requirements in these links:
    Panther
    Tiger
    Additionally,
"Tiger ships on a DVD, but if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you’ll need CD media. When you buy Mac OS X Tiger, you qualify to purchase Tiger CDs for only $9.95."

  • Had to reset TC, Time Machine won't recognize old backups

Two problems really. Firmware "update" was a disaster, forcing several resets of TC and creation, eventually, of a new name. First problem is that when I start up Time Machine, it won't recognize the backups that were already made of the drive on the TC. Second problem is that it says I only have about 1/2 of the capacity left in the TC drive. It seems that it is treating the old backup files as a large unrecognizable file that it will not delete. Optimum solution would be for TM to continue backing up my hard drive on the backups already created by TM on my newly named TC. If that can't be done, can I at least erase those old backups so that the TC has the maximum capacity to start backing up again from this point forward. Thanks for any help.

To Reformat the TC Hard Disk:
Go to Airport Utility --> Manual Setup --> Disks --> Highlight "Time Capsule Disk" on the left --> Select "Erase" on the right.

  • Mountain Lion Upgrade Won't Recognize AOL password

I just upgraded to mountain lion and aol won't recognize my password.  Gmail and iCloud no issues at all. Driving me nuts. Quit and tried again-no luck. Rebooted-no luck. Installed latest version of aol for mac-no luck. Unchecked SSL-no luck.  Any suggestions

Which versions of Office?  If you upgraded from Snow Leopard and you're on Office 2004, you're out of luck.  If you're on a newer version of Office you should be OK.

  • Upgrade to FCS 2 won't take old serial number

So I bought a FCS2 upgrade. It installed perfectly on my Mac Pro. But on my laptop, I had an educational version of FCP 5 which I know can't be upgraded. Apple said to enter my old FCP 4.5
serial #. But I still get the INVALID Serial # message. I've tried other 4.5 #s, and still no go. Any thoughts?

The Software License Agreement for FCS2 allows you to install the same license of FCS2 on one desktop and one laptop, as long as the two are never in use at the same time. So, assuming you stay within those boundaries, you can use the same SNs for both installs.
To do that at this point in time, you'll probably need to trash the munged SN file on your laptop. So, go to:
    /Library/Application Support/ProApps/System ID
and trash that file. Empty the trash. The next time you open Final Cut, you will be asked for the SNs again. Enter the SN for the upgrade, then for the previous SN, enter the SN from your desktop. That should do it.
But seriously, it would be a violation of the SLA to use FCS apps on both computers at the same time. K?

  • Migration Assistant Won't Recognize "old" MBP via Fire Wire

    I purchased a new MacBook: 2.16 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 160 gig drive
As usual when I get a new Mac, I erased the drive installed OS X.4.11-Tiger and personalized the mac.
Along the way, something odd happened. I cannot double click on any application and open it—unless—I place its alias into the dock. Then it opens.
I have run disk repair as well as permissions repair to no avail.
Want to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from my MBP to the MB. However, when I connect the Fire Wire, restart the "old" MBP with the "T" key depressed, the firewire wheel shows—but—the MB will not recognize the MBP. So, I can't transfer any data.
MBP has OS 10.4.10 while the MB has OS 10.4.11. Could this be the issue?
Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get past this?
    Thanks,
    Tek

  • Aperture upgrade won't open with serial number

I have a retail license for aperture version 2.1 with the serial numbers on the jacket for the cd. Several times after upgrades the new version will ask for my name and serial number. The latest upgrade to 3.4.5 tells me that my serial number is invalid. Any suggestions?

Thank you so much for your reply but I want to apologize for wasting your time with this question. I was making a "rookie" mistake by using my cd jacket information from version 2.1. After reading your reply I looked further into my cd's and found the version 3.0 cd with the info I needed on the jacket. The correct serial number works fine with the upgrade.

  • Using External HD and iTunes10.iTunes won't recognize old library on ExtHD

All my music is stored on my Lacie Rugged External Drive. In the past when upgrading iTunes, I was always able to just change the location of my media folder (iTunes prefs>Advanced>etc.). However, iTunes 10 doesn't seem to want to read the old library. Any ideas? I was hoping to avoid transferring all the songs on to my new MacBook Pro.

I have a similar problem. Bought an external drive to store music and pictures, followed the instructions on several threads here on how to transfer these from my D drive (the back up drive on the computer itself) to the L drive (the Buffalo Linkstation); changed the location of the library to the correct address where all the music files are (I can see them there) having consolidated them there. It could not find any of them unless I individually located them (there are over 9000 tracks so I have not got time to do that). I changed the location back to the original and it found them again. Next I tried following the thread on the .itl file - using shift and selecting the library on the L drive, but it only found 300 tracks, some bought, some transferred, some full albums, some only part of the album, an apparently random selection. I tried going back to the original .itl file and the same happened - it only found the same small selection of tracks. I know the files are still there - I can see them, but I have no idea how to connect itunes to them. Please help!

  • OS 10.4.7 upgrade won't recognize my network  belkin router

Since upgrading to 10.4.7 my computer does not recognize my network belkin router. Any fixes other that reloading 10.4 and upgrading to 10.4.5? 10.4.6 failed several times too.

When you say that your computer doesn't recognize your Belkin router, do you mean that your computer lost Internet connectivity after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.7?
If so, can you get a friend to bring over a computer and try to connect to the Internet through your router? That would eliminate whether the router was to blame or not. It might also pay to power cycle your router.
On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Network > Built-In Ethernet and check to see if you're actually getting an IP address from the router (assuming that you've configured it for DHCP). You can select Built-In Ethernet and click on configure to see how it's actually configured. On the first tab, TCP/IP, you probably want to have Configure IPv4 configured to Using DHCP. Close all of those windows and as an extra precaution, reboot your machine and see if that gets you back online.

  • CS6 Upgrade Won't Recognize Existing CS5.5 Installation

I have a legal copy of CS5.5 Master Collection for Windows on my PC.  It's installed on an SSD, mapped to drive B for speed.  Just bought and downloaded CS6 Production Premium for Windows.  Successfully entered the serial number, but the installer couldn't find the CS5.5 MC installation (itself an upgrade from a full version of CS5 MC) so it prompted me for the S/N of a qualifying product.  I entered my CS5.5 MC S/N and the installer says it's not a qualifying product.  What gives and how do I resolve this and get the CS6 upgrade to run? Thank you.

Ah, I was indeed wrong about that upgrade path, my apologies, just double checked and CS5 MC is listed as a valid upgrade to Production Premium http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/production/buying-guide-upgrades.html
Glad you got it working, still waiting for my free upgrade email from Adobe to come through.
