Upgraded 10.2.8 to 10.4.6, now iphoto 2 is empty
Ive looked at alot of similar problems on the discussion board but none of the solutions have worked for me yet, so Im hoping someone can help me solve my iphoto problem easily. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.
I have just upgraded to 10.4.6 from 10.2.8 (because I bought an ipod and it wouldnt operate without the upgrade).
There have been a few problems, loss of music in itunes (which upgrading from the downloadable itunes7 fixed), also loss of all my emails in mail (not looked into yet) and the worst problem the loss of all photos in iphoto.
Im not hugely mac or computer savvy. - So I tried to return the photo albums to iphoto very badly, without success.
In pictures all my albums were visable and mostly uncorrupted but pictures would only open in preview.
First of all I tried unsuccessfully to drag and drop albums and pictures into iphoto.
Then I tried to drag the whole iphoto file from pictures into iphoto. This took a long time and most photos would not be transferred this way. I then had about 200 pictures in the iphoto library. The problem with this was that many photos were replicated and it used up alot of memory. I tried to put some pictures on a disk and then i got the message to say there wasnt enough memory to do this.
I then tried to get rid of some of the replicated photos and ones i didnt want. I tried to do this using the yearly albums in the pictures folder. This did seem to create space but it emptied iphoto again.
I realised I was out of my depth now.
Ive now recovered all I deleted from the trash and placed it in the pictures folder awaiting some help.
I tried holding down the option key, tried using com.apple.iPhoto.plist and dragging the 2 iphoto folders, one at a time onto the desktop and opening iphoto all without success.
Any ideas?
Clare
If you were using iPhoto 2, then you would not have seen all your albums in the Pictures folder because they would have all been hidden in the iPhoto Library folder. If you took them out, then put them back (and never take them out of there again).
Once you've stuffed the photos you want iPhoto to manage back into the iPhoto Library folder (I assume you have only one at this point), drag it temporarily to the desktop. In your user's Library >Preferences folder, find the file named "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" and drag it to the trash.
Now start iPhoto and dismiss the welcome screen. Once a new library has been established, quit iPhoto.
In the Finder, get the iPhoto Library folder you put on the desktop, and drag it to the new iPhoto Library folder in Pictures. You want to drop the old iPhoto Library folder inside the new iPhoto Library folder (do not replace).
Finally, you will start iPhoto again, but this time start it while holding the shift+option keys. Don't release them until you're prompted to confirm the intent to rebuild the photo library. Click "Yes", then click "Save".
When it finishes, it should open to display your photo library. Your old albums and keyword associations will be gone, but you can do all the regrouping you want once iPhoto is functional again. If you have duplicates to get rid of, drag them to the iPhoto trash. Your library photos can only be added, deleted, or moved around from within iPhoto -- never in a Finder window.

I've just upgraded to iOS4 on my iPhone 3GS and the iPhoto images are blurred? WHY?
They were fine before...so now my screen saver is blurred and looks low res...all my images are crap quality...what is going on Apple?
Checked the photos on my laptop and they are crystal clear...anyone else have the same problem?
I wish I'd stuck with the old software now.I also had the same issue. I upgraded my iPhone 3Gs to the new software about a week ago. Yesterday the photos on my phone were blurry. I "googled" the issue and ended up here. Synced my phone and now all is well! thanks for the help.

I have just bought a new computer and downloaded itunes. I plugged in my iphone and upgraded to the newest itunes/ synched etc. Now have no music or apps on the phone. Contacts, texts, photos all fine. Just all itunes content that is missiing. It isn't showing in my itunes account on my computer or on my phone. Any idea how to get it back? (No point synching with itunes on my computer as it isn't there either!)
I suggest copying your entire iTunes library to your new computer, also you might want to copy the photos you want to save. Then sync your device to the new iTunes and copy over your music, documents and photos that you want.
If you are no longer going to use the old computer you should open up iTunes on the old computer and use the menu to deauthorize it. Be sure to use the same iTunes menu on your new computer to Authorize the new one. -

I recently upgraded to the latest version of FF and now when using a webmail client I am routinely logged out when I try to search e-mail. It works in IE, but I don't like or want to use IE.

I recently upgraded to iphoto 11 v. 9.2 and now iphoto crashes every time I try to upload photos. I have tried to upload from my camera via usb, from my iphone, and from the memory card directly and it crashes every time. What can I do to fix this problem?
It was the folder that I trashed.

Got it! Thanx. What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed. -
i upgraded my Itunes to the latest version and now it won't let me view my library with the column browser. Can i get that back? I tried using the shortcut for it and nothing happens. When I try to do it from the view menu, it shows up as something I can't click on. The new library format is driving me crazy and I just want to get back to the old library view.
We need to sort out some facts here first:
• You cannot be running Mt. Lion on your iMac G5. What Mac is it? What is the Model Identifier listed in About This Mac; More Info; Hardware Overview
• What is the model of your Epson Scanner?
• Have you attempted to scan using Image Capture, located in your Applications folder?
• Your Palm Pilot software will only run in Snow Leopard; so depending upon which Mac you have, you will either have to:
1) partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it to "dual-boot" when you want to access you Palm software, or
2) install Snow Leopard Server (now available from Apple for $20 telephone orders USA & Canda only) into Parallels 8 to run your Palm software in Mt. Lion:

I recently upgraded to Yosemite on MacBook Pro - unable to open iPhoto and Photo Booth
I recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 on my MacBook Pro (bought in 2011). Since the Yosemite upgrade, I have been unable to open both iPhoto and Photo Booth at all. I have lots of photos and need to access them. Both icons of iPhoto and Photo Booth have a circle with a bar across them, in my dock.
When I click on iPhoto I get the message " In order to open “iPhoto”, you need to update to the latest version. The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac App Store". I have tried upgrading iPhoto on the App store but get an error message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store" .
Since I cannot even view my photos, I cannot store them elsewhere. Please, can someone help me resolve this problem!!!
For Photo Booth, when I click on it, it says "You can’t use this version of the application “Photo Booth” with this version of OS X. You have Photo Booth 3.0.3" - gives me no option to upgrade at all.
Would appreciate help for both iPhoto and Photo Booth issues described above, with iPhoto being the most pressing concern. Thank You.The new app is called Photos. It's icon was added to the Dock. Both, Photos and iPhoto, are located in your Applications folder.
If you need to upgrade iPhoto, follow these instructions prepared by Barney-15E: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-8431 -
I just upgraded to the new mobile me calendar and now all my calendar entries on iCal have been erased. As I type this the calendar entries are still on the mobile me and iphone calendars. How do I restore the calendar entries to iCal?
Please always post your System details when you have a query. The upgrade to the new MobileMe calendar produces different results, and different problems, with different versions of OSX.
Snow Leopard: during the upgrade process your iCal calendars should be moved to MobileMe (this can take some time and you have to wait for it to happen). Once done, your iCal reads the calendars from MobileMe so any changes made in either place will be visible immediately. If this has not happened then this Apple Tech Note provides instructions:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3397
Leopard: when the upgrade is completed iCal on Leopard will not be able to see the MobileMe calendars until an additional process is carried out, detailed in this Apple Tech Note:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4330
Tiger: iCal on Tiger cannot read the MobileMe calendars, period. The only workaround is to upgrade to Leopard, or Snow Leopard if possible (Intel Mac required). -
Tried to upgrade my iPhone 4 to 5.1 and now it is stuck in "plug into itunes mode" but will not recover when I plug it in. It is coming up as "unkown error (1)". Is there anything I can do?
Also, is there any way to recover pictures I have not yet backed up? They should be on iTunes, but do not show up when I plug the phone in or otherwise.
Is there any hope in saving this phone or is my best bet contacting Verizon or Apple to overnight me a new one? From iPhoneWiki:
Try changing the USB port (the back one of chassis is better) and restart computer.
The installed version of iTunes may also be too old. Update iTunes.
Also put your iPhone in DFU mode when doing the above and restore. It's a software error. -
Help! I upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 6 and now one of my two emai accounts - my work account - no longer receives/sends emails. I checked my e-mail settings and they were correct. I then deleted the account and tried to re-add it, per discussions in other forums, and it won't verify the account. In addi tion, there was previously an Advanced section in the e-mail account setting, and now there isn't - don't know if that is part of the probem and the phone needs additional information that it's not asking for anymore . . . I'm beyond frustated. Many hours of lost productivity. Any suggestions? Can I got back to the previous version? I was thinking of buying new phone in next few months, but if this is resolved I'm leaving Apple.

I do backup with iCloud. I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever. Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever. -
I recently upgraded to iTunes 11. Big Mistake. Now I can't play anything from iTunes. When I click on it, it appears to be playing, but no sound at all.
Also, I keep getting asked to "authorize" this computer (which I've been using for more than 2 years). When the dialog box comes up, it includes an e-mail address what I used over 6 years ago. When I attempt to change the e-mail address, it tells me I'm already authorized.
PLEASE HELP! Or, just tell me how to get iTunes 10 back - that works well!A computer requires authorisation to play content. If you have bought content using 2 Apple IDs over the years you need to authorise the machine for both Apple ID accounts.
