Upgraded 5600 to 5700 killed clone overlay

I just upgraded from a 5600 to a 5700. With the 5600 and the 61.77 driver the clone mode identically overlayed the video in both my primary digital screen and my analog screen. In other words, I did not have to use "full screen" on the secondary to see a video. When I installed the 5700 with the latest drivers I was forced to use full screen to see a video on the secondary output. In order to restore full video overlay capability, so that both displays were identical, I had to install driver version 53.03. Why is that?

You cant watch full screen video on the tv while playing full screen games on the monitor...
This is a limitation of the video card and not a problem with the drivers or something else.

Upgrading to G5 - Migrate or Clone

Hi Everyone,
Say I am upgrading my main editing station to a Dual-Core G5 (finally!) from a Dual Processor G4 1.42. What I would like to do is clone my existing machine over using SuperDuper! to the new G5. I have done this before with systems and had no issues, the catch is, the systems were the same processor wise, etc. Like I cloned 2 Intel Core Duo machines, A G4 to a G4 machine, etc. I have also used the Migration Assistant, which worked well, except for serial numbers, etc., that I had to input on some programs. Since this particular system is full of my editing system plugins, etc., a cloning would be preferred, but I am not sure how smoothly cloning it to a machine with a completely different makeup will do. Being that the G5 is a 64-bit processor, will cloning a G4 32 bit processor system and programs over to it gum stuff up?
Does anyone have any suggestions, insight or thoughts?

I have Tiger installed on my iPod for emergency use, and it was installed via my PowerBook G4 from an original 10.4.0 DVD. It's been updated with each point release over time with the Combo updaters to 10.4.6, and boots my Quad just fine.
As far as I know, you're OK as long as you don't try to use a version of the OS that's earlier (or in the case of specific builds, the "same" version number) than the version the computer shipped with. So, for the dual-core G5 machines, I believe as long as you have a general release of 10.4.3 or higher, you should be OK.

Upgrade to Mountain Lion kills Quicken access??

I just upgraded my OS from 10.5.8 to Mountain Lion, and now can't use my Quicken 2007 (Apple support didn't tell me that would happen). How can I get to my Quicken files to pay my bills? If I had known I would lose my Quicken, especially when I have bills to pay and statements to balance, I wouldn't have upgraded all the way to Mountain Lion. Help!!

This wouldn't be Apples responsibilty. Ideally, you should have checked to make sure Quicken 2007 was comaptible with 10.8 before upgrading.

Upgrade to iOS4 has killed all sounds

I loaded iOS4 onto my 3GS phone. When complete all sound seems to be disabled. No clicks, no music will play, when calling no one can hear me and I cannot hear them. WHen someone calls there is no ringing even though the sound switch is turned on. Headphones do not work and speaker will not work. I tried various things including a full restore but that also did not help.
Anyone got answers?

Try all possibilities - nothing worked...
Restore-> Only Shutdown-Sound is back.
Try iPod -> Sounds are gone again, all !!! Sounds.
Hard reset - No Sounds...
(no Ringtone, no Voice, when a call receive, no Music, no Sound when playing Speechmemos, no Shutdown-Sound - nothing!)
Terrible.
Unusable iPhone now...

Upgrading 5500 to 5700 LE

my FX5500 lost its DVI output after about 3 weeks.
It was replaced with a FX5700le, which looked like a bonus.
Ever since I have an unstable system which shuts down at random. Has run for 10 hours but other times fails during startup.
FS2002 which ran nicely on the 5500 just hangs on loading.
I am now on my second 5700LE but no change. Restored my system to factory settings (painful) but marginal improvement. (cleared and installed Windows from scratch)
VGA and MBoard are both MSI. (BIOS updated)
Is there some difference in hardware settings required?
Temperatures seem OK, although my CPU fan shuts down if I set it to smart temperature mode.
Pentium 4 3.4GHz
1023 MB RAM

My system was a boxed Advent 9200 from PC World.
Next step up is 9400 which already has the 5700LE card, and otherwise is apparently the same. 3.4GHz P4 HT with 1024 MB RAM and 2 hard drives.
My power supply is rated 300W in, with main outputs;
+3.3v - 26A
+5v - 30A
+12V - 15A
Total output 180w max.
I have already set the AGP volts to 1.6 - seems marginally more stable, but i get all the symptoms of a graphics card which is really struggling.
I get the odd momentary blank, partial freezes, full freezes and no video signal.
Usually the machine restarts eventually on its own. Pressing keys doesn't even give a beep most of the time.
I have reloaded most of my software with no specific problems. I haven't even tried FS2002 which has never worked since the 5700LE was first fitted.
I have removed and replaced drivers in Safe Mode and used Driver Cleaner inbetween.
There is no basic difference between all the drivers currently available from NVidia or MSI. They all fail eventually (hours not days).
Next week I should be getting another motherboard (MSI 865PE) and power supply fitted - a new machine would be easier, but PCWorld makes that very difficult!
I suspect that there is a problem in something other than the graphics card.

Upgrade to iPhone 6 killed 1/4 of my iCloud contacts! Can iTunes backup help?

I got a new iPhone 6 and set it up with my regular Apple ID, which I also used on the old iPhone 5. Everything seemed to go well, applications, settings and contacts were installed on the new iPhone. After checking that everything works just fine I erased all data and setting on the old iPhone, because I'll have to return it to the carrier. So far so good.
A day later I started noticing that about 25% of my contacts have just disappeared, they are gone on all devices connected to iCloud (Mac, iPad and the new iPhone). Since they are also gone from apple.com/iCloud I guess they have vaporized for good.
I have an older iTunes backup, which probably still has those contacts, I am just afraid that I will get a total mess of touble contacts and God know what else will be messed up. Any recommendations how to recover those contacts?

Did you log into iCloud to see if all of the contacts were there? If they do not exist in the iCloud online, then they must not have synced correctly from the old device. Did you log in with the same iCloud account? You say you tried all of the troubleshooting steps, I'm guessing that you include turning iCloud contacts off and then back on again? Do you still have the 4s?

Upgrading from FMS_4_5_0_r297 to FMS_4_5_1_r484 using ffmpeg will kill recording append ability

I would like to warn anyone using ffmpeg that upgrading to FMS_4_5_1_r484 will kill your append recording.
As discussed in http://forums.adobe.com/message/4280166 even fmle encoders are having problems appending recordings with absolute time enabled.
Reseting the recording with this query "adbe-live-event=croaporter&adbe-record-mode=record" or a change in your main.asc might be a solution for some but this will cause a disruption for clients connected to the stream.
For myself and I'm sure many others this is not a solution it seems like a bug. We need a solution that does not require a client to reset their browser page or client application which means overall disruptions in the viewer experience.
I can vouch that in FMS_4_5_0_r297 appending to a recording was done seemlessly on a 24/7 stream (and i have over 30 streams running). Sometimes for some reason an encoder will attempt to republish or will require a flush (forced restart) and with FMS_4_5_1_r484 this is not possible. Yes you can start a new recording but what happened to appending the recording, it was working.
I have tried to insert into the Event.xml a maxrestartage and removed absolute time code from Application but it will not work.
I dont know if FFmpeg has absolute time code implemented in the librtmp libraries to emulate fmle time synchronisation but even fmle users have this problem so I believe that this should be fixed in the next upgrade but for now I suggest all others who want to use a more efficient encoder such as ffmpeg as compared to fmle to be very careful when upgrading.
I did notice some new hls buffering issues that have arised from this new upgrade as well which 4.5.0 didnt have.
I am even willing to pay for support to solve this problem because 4.5.1 seems to have better monitoring in the administration console. But for now I am downgrading to FMS_4_5_0_r297 because it works.

(source is mpeg2 - mpegts 720 x 576) with ffmpeg you can copy the mpegts timecode with the -copyts option but that didnt help and I also tried -timestap now but no luck.

Getting a larger hard drive...and want to upgrade to Tiger...help!

I have a dualie MDD with the stock 60 gig hard drive that I want to upgrade. I'd like a 200 or 250 gig hard drive.
Once I have the new hard drive installed, I'd like to upgrade to Tiger. But I'm lost as to how this process works. I know I'd need to clone my current OS, but then how do I clone it to the new drive once it's installed?
Would I:
1) Back my system up onto CD/DVDs/external drive/whatever
2) Create clone of system using CCC or Disk Utilities
3) Install new drive??
4) ???
5) Upgrade to Tiger??
I'm not sure if two drives running so close to each other inside the hard drive cage is a wise move considering how hot the inside of an MDD gets, so I may remove the 60 once everything is up and running.
So how do I go about this the right way? Detailed instructions would be very appreciated. Thank you!

First of all, get the new drive and install it. (Insure you buy an ATA drive and not a SATA drive.) If you need any assistance with installing, configuring, or initializing the drive, please post back.
In the interim, check for updates to your third-party apps to make sure that they will all be up-to-date and Tiger-compatible. Download a free copy of Superduper! or CarbonCopyCloner to later clone your startup drive. You can also use Disk Utility's Restore option for cloning, if you'd rather do so.
Next, you have a decision to make about the Tiger install. You can either upgrade it from Panther on your current drive, or do a fresh install of Tiger and use the Setup Assistant to incorporate your data from the Panther volume. I prefer and would recommend the latter as a much "cleaner" way of upgrading, leaving less "baggage" from the older OS. I would install Tiger directly to the new drive, which precludes the immediate need to clone anything while still leaving the original startup drive and system intact. If you'd rather do the upgrade install, then you should clone the Panther volume to the new drive, check the clone to insure it's okay, and install Tiger over Panther onto one drive or the other.
After installing Tiger, doing the software updates, moving your user files, apps etc. to the Tiger volume, you can run and test it for a week or so to insure all is well and that you have everything you need from the Panther drive. Once you're satisfied, you can then either retain the Panther volume as-is, using it as an alternate startup drive, or (preferably) you can instead erase it, zero it, and clone a copy of your Tiger volume to it as a backup and alternate startup drive.

Upgrading to Tiger & HP AIO printer TIP

I just upgraded from Panther to Tiger, 10.4.3. After reading about all of the issues surrounding HP AIO printer issues and upgrading to Tiger here is what I did and my HP AIO 6110 works perfectly after the upgrade.
Before upgrading I did a complete clone of my old system to a FW HD. Ran TechToolPro. Deleted all existing HP AIO software. Rebooted my machine. Upgraded to Tiger and then ran Combo 10.4.3 updater. Used Printer Setup to set up the 6110 from the Tiger upgraded drivers. Printer worked just as under Panther with no issues. Installed all the HP 6110 software.
Scanning and Coping as well as Printing all work perfectly.
I'm not saying this will work for others but it did work for me.

11.5.10.2 upgrade to R12.1 - 32bit to 64bit env

We are planning to upgrade our 11.5.10.2 E-Business environment to R12.1. We are running the 11.2.0.1 version of the database. Our current 11.5.10.2 environment is running on Linux x86 servers with the OEL 5.2 OS. We plan to implement R12.1 on new servers using Linux x86_64 with the OEL 5.2 64-bit OS.
Since we will be moving from 32-bit to a 64-bit OS how will this impact our upgrade process? Can we clone our 11.5.10.2 environment from the 32 bit servers to the 64 bit servers and then perform the upgrade?
I have not been able to find any R12 upgrade documentation that addresses moving from a 32 bit to a 64 bit environment during an upgrade so any advice, tips, MOS references, etc are appreciated.

To run TUMS utility , we applied a patch 7705743, but it failed with worker failed to perform a job. Internally I found adworker failed to run adinvset.pls file. Looks like this is because of lower version of file, Please advise.

Clone Stamp tool displays a copy of the entire image.

Hi I have just purchased photoshop elements 11. It has been ok for past 10 days or so but now I have a problem when tring to clone.
I select the area by alt+click but then what happens is that the whole picture moves and in fact duplicates itself

Barbara's settings will reset the tool to its default behavior.
More specifically, you probably have the Clipped option turned off. With the default settings, the clone overlay (which shows you a preview of what you are about to copy) is reduced to the size of your brush. With this option off, the entire image will be shown, centered on where you mouse currently is. You can turn this option back on by going to the Clone Overlay button in the Tool Options at the bottom and adding a check next to Clipped. The other posibility is that the Brush size for the tool is at least the same size as the entire image.
Resetting the tool will take care of both of these options.

ITunes 9 killed my Apple TV

Which pretty much says it all. Unless it is a complete coincidence, upgrading to 9 effectively killed my Apple TV sync ability. Windows XP, never had an issue before with the wireless network (been running ATV for nearly four years now) and I don't have any answers other than to downgrade (the error message tells me to make sure port 3689 is open but it always has been and still is).
Any other ideas before I chuck it all and go to something that just is a whole lot easier (I got a Western Digital HD Live for my big screen TV and it beats ATV all to heck and back for half the price so now I'm thinking that rather than deal with this hassle I'll just buy another one for the bedroom and get out of the Apple TV business once and for all -- I've never had sync issues, but sync is such a hassle and is so slow when the WDTV streams lightning fast).

All I'm saying is that every other device I've ever used allows me to connect from that device without any issues whatsoever. Apple TV is the biggest PITA I've ever used -- you need to run iTunes, you need to race back and forth between the two to enter codes, and you can't connect even if you turn off all your firewalls (which, by the way, I don't need to do with any other device).
I still can't get it working and it's a piece of junk -- compared to the Western Digital HD live I can't see why anyone would buy this (and the only reason I did? Because WDTV hadn't been invented yet). So now I'm stuck with this paperweight that I can't even get $50 for. Sigh.
I don't even have any thing else to try -- as I said, it worked before, I didn't change anything (other than the new iTunes) and even with all firewalls turned off at the router and PC (something I do NOT need to do with WDTV) I still can't get connected without the error (iTunes does SEE ATV, and I can enter the code but that's about it). Oh well, I guess it was worth having for at least a few years (oh, wait -- no it wasn't :>)
(Note: all of this may not apply if you use a Mac. Apple has never really taken kindly to us PC users, although they begrudgingly try).

We are planning to upgrade Oracle Applications 12.0.6 to 12.1.1.
Details of our environment:
Operating System : Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Database Version : 10.2.0.4
Type : Two Node (Database Node and Application Node)
Services running on db node : Database Service, Database Listener Service, Application Listener Service, Concurrent Manager Service
Services running on ap node : Application Listener Service, opmn service
RAC/NON RAC : NON RAC
Shard/Non Shared Apps Tier : Non Shared Apps Tier
So when ever I apply any patch I will apply both on dbTier and appsTier
My Question is :
1. How should I reduce the downtime on production to upgrade from 12.0.6 to 12.1.1
2. If the answer is to upgrade on one node and clone the other. My question is suppose I am upgrade both database and application on dbTier. So in the process of upgrade few times we need to start and stop opmn servie while upgrading forms and apache. Since opmn is not running on db node how can i do this.
3. If I upgrade jre on db node and rest all the steps I have done on apps node ( I mean upgrade jdk,10.1.3 oracle home,10.1.2 oracle home,pre-requisites patches,maintenance pack and post upgrade patches) and then if I clone apps node to db node. So on apps node concurrent manager is not running so while cloning apps node to db node manually I need to enable concurrent manager service and disable opmn while cloning apps node to db node.

Normally how much downtime will be taken for the upgrade process.The best practice to estimate the upgrade time is by upgrading a test instance which is identical to your production instance (same patchset level and cloned recently from production).

Upgrade to 10.4

I have an Imac OS X version 10.3.9 G5 I would like to upgrade to 10.4 so I can use Rosetta Stone version 3.
How do I go about this?

The first step would be to check your system's specs. To run Tiger (10.4) acceptably, it would be best to have at least 512mb of RAM (256mb is the minimum). More is better, of course.
Then you need to find a retail installation disc for Tiger. By retail, I mean a disc that was sold separately in a shrink-wrapped box, not one that came with another Mac model. The retail discs are black with a big silver X. You can install any initial version of Tiger and update it to 10.4.11 using Software Update.
Apple no longer sells Tiger, so you have to get it on eBay or other online source.
Once you get the disc, it is just a matter of starting up from the disc (insert the disc and restart with the C key held down). Then run through the Installer's screens.
Before running the installation, you should do the following:
Back up at least your personal data. The standard installation retains you existing data, but it is always possible for something bad to happen during a major system upgrade. If you duplicate (clone) your internal drive to an external drive, then you will be able to recover to your previous system if the result of the Tiger upgrade does not work properly.
When you get to the first Installer screen (after you select language), go up to the menu bar and run Disk Utility (under Utilities ). On the +First Aid+ tab, use +Repair Disk+ on your internal drive. Note if any errors are reported and, if there are errors, if they are successfully repaired. If there are errors that Disk Utility cannot repair, do not proceed with the installation. You will need to resolve that issue first.

Using clone tool in Elements 12

When I use clone tool, after sampling the area with alt key when I try to apply it the photo moves around so that I cannot not clone. How can I fix?

Your probably are seeing the Clone Source Overlay.
If you click on Tool Options and then Clone Overlay you can set different options, but you might try Clipped and see how that is.
