Upgraded a computer - Gameport stopped function

Hi all.
This is interesting. I recently bought a brand new computer, and installed XP. I wanted my old joystick to work here, so I intalled my old sound card, which worked fine in the old computer (as did the joystick). Now, the sound works fine, but the gameport doesn't - Windows identified it and instaleld the PuP driver, but it claims my joystick is unconnected, although it is. I think the problem may be in the I/O port thing - This old sound card loves to be at 220H or so, while the PuP put it in D000H or so. Windows doesn't let me change this, although I can change the I/O port of the gameport (which doesn't help).
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you had any other issues (overheating, loss of wireless, video problems) with the notebook? Your unit has an AMD motherboard with Nvidia graphics, and there have been numerous problems with these laptops. These symptoms (including loss of cd/dvd drives) usually shows up 12 - 24 months after purchase.

My cd/dvd drive disappeared also, and nothing I tried (and I tried everything) brought it back. I bought an external drive, which worked great, but three months later my notebook would no longer boot due to gpu failure.
My suggestion to you is to get an external drive until the time comes for a new computer.

All Adobe AIR Applications stopped function today, what happened?

I'm running OS X 10.6.3, all of my Adobe AIR applications stopped functioning today.
Here is a list of all the Adobe AIR applications that I use...

I have changed absolutely nothing with any of these apps, or Adobe AIR in a very long time... I actually haven't even installed anything to my knowledge in a few weeks.
I have tried reinstalling all of these apps, reinstalling Adobe AIR... everything. I've tried everything.
Can anyone assist me in figuring out what is wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

Option key stopped functioning

My option key just stopped functioning. I was working on a project and it suddenly stopped and I cannot figure out how to make it work again. I've plugged directly into the front of my Mac Pro and the rear and it still is not working. I feel like it's a function control that somehow got turned off but I cannot figure out how to turn it back on. Any suggestions? I'm running OS x 10.9.3

For some reason I had thought this was a built-in keyboard - duh!
Keyboard compatibility is a matter of key mappings, and so long as you keep your OS up to date key mappings for most generic keyboards should be installed in the system. Keyboards are largely standardized: the biggest differences you're going to find are between keyboards built for different languages and keyboards built for Windows (where the control/option/command keys have a different ordering). You can poke through the Keyboard preferences pane of System Preferences, but I doubt you'll find much useful there.
Some high-end keyboards - notably Logitech keyboards; Logitech has a tendency to over-design things - have their own drivers and preference panels. You'll need to check the company website for your keyboard.
That being said, if the Z key is not working I'd lay my money on internal circuit damage, the most likely cause of which is liquid damage. Z is not a key that would be affected by internal settings. Even a small drop of sugary coffee can cause havoc, if you're unlucky, and who uses a computer without access to coffee? If also could be a bad unit - that does happen - so if it's less than a year old (or whatever the warrantee that came with it was) contact the seller or the company for an exchange.

It's a 3rd party app. You really should contact Adobe Support and/or post in the Adobe Forums

Use Software Update or the OS 10.6.8 combo update to update your OS. Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer. When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

Trash Icon in Mail stopped functioning

This morning, I could use the Trash icon in Mail to delete individual emails. This afternoon, it stopped functioning. The other methods still work. Any thoughts? I upgraded to 3.0 several days ago but the Trash icon worked fine until today. I have a 3G.

Have you powered the iPhone down normally and restarted to see if that clears the problem? If you already did that and it wasn't successful, have you tried a hard reset?

You need to fully wipe the HD (including the recovery partition) to remove all hints of any newer MacOS version that has been installed on that computer.
Since you still aren't providing any details wiht the error message you are getting when trying to re-download Lion the best answer anyone here can give you is to call Apple and order a replacement set of the original discs that shipped with the system when it was new. To be honest, this is really the only answer we can give because the license agreement for the Lion purchase you made does npot allow you to install it on a machine that you no longer own, so if you install it on the machine you are selling or giving away, it would be in violation of the license agreement of the OS purhase from the Mac App Store.
You an always wipe the HD of the Mac you are selling/giving away and let the new owner contact Apple to purchase the orginal OS install discs, and you now have your answer "fast". They may have to wait, be in either case, someone will have to wait until the discs are purchased from Apple (unless you can find the ones that came with the system when you originally bought it).
If the original system is new enough that it came with Internet Recovery, then you should wipe the drive and let the new owner go through the steps to download and install the OS (using their own Apple ID) and there is no waiting there at all.

Open "Java Preferences" either from spotlight or your utilities folder...it's probably going to say you need to install a java runtime. Then just click install!

The firmware update corrects an error that may occur, however the techs would have checked the condition of the battery prior to installing a new one. If the battery was questionable, the firmware update was really not too important.
You can check the battery condition by going to the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and see what it says about Cycle Count, Condition, Capacity: Condition anything but Normal needs to be checked and may need to be replaced.
The cycle count of 1,000 charge cycles is the typical life of a Lithium-Ion battery, the point at which the capacity drops to 80% of the as built capacity.

The ipod/iphone/ipad are not backup sotrage devices.
Certainly you did not upgrade your computer without making sure that your backup copy of your computer was up to date. Just use your backup copy of your computer to put everything back.

I ran into an error today importing files from my iPhone5 to my PC. The error read:
'a device attached to the computer is not functioning'
It happened repeatedly for certian (larger) files that I would attempt to transfer.
The solution, I found was to ensure that I was using an authorized iPhone lightning cable. The cable I used first was a $7 knockoff. It works great for charging, but data transfer is sketchy.
Plugging into an Apple-made cable made the problem disappear!

There were stories published that indicated some companies built and sold lightning cables before Apple had finalized the specifications for them. The cable you purchased might have been one like that. Apple certifies cables the meet the needed specifications and that info appears on the packaging.

At a guess you followed the process in HT1364 - iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder which would have moved the media folder to a new path of your choice. This process leaves the library database files back in the original location of <User's Music>\iTunes. Often people assume that all they need is now on the external drive and wipe the internal drive, or discard their old computer, before backing up the all important iTunes folder. If you have a backup of your user's profile folder from before the upgrade the iTunes library folder should be in there somewhere. Restore it to <User's Music> and your original library should pop back into existence. The external drive would need to have the same drive letter that it had previously.
A more effective way to relocate the library is to move the entire iTunes folder to the external drive, then hold down shift when starting iTunes and keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. You would then choose the file iTunes Library.itl in the iTunes folder on the external drive. If this is the way you moved the library before then that is how you should now reconnect to it. Changing the media folder in preferences doesn't change which .itl database file is opened, nor does double-clicking on an .itl file directly.
If you no longer have the original .itl file then you will have to build a new library and import the media to it. If you need to do this I would recommend you create a new library at F:\iTunes, then move your existing media folders inside F:\iTunes\iTunes Media before importing. This will avoid the creation of duplicates and make sure the library is in the correct shape going forwards.
If you have an iPod or iOS device my scripts ImportDevicePlaylists and SyncStats may well let you recover ratings, play counts & playlists from the device.
When you've fixed up your libray you should consider getting a second external drive to backup to.
