Upgraded and can't import photos

Hi There,
First, I have to admit that I have tampered with my iPhoto library. I didn't think it would have such dire consequences, as most apps are so user friendly and drag-and-drop friendly.
So, I'll try to give a concise explanation of what's happening. I don't think it's a dire situation, I'd just love to rebuild my library so that iPhoto is happy again.
1. Was running 10.2.8 with iPhoto 2.0.
2. About 6 months ago, renamed all of my folders in the library. Realized this was bad when iphoto lost all my pix, but managed to rebuild the library (not with original dates)
3. Last week, upgraded to Tiger (10.4). All of my apps seemed fine, except iPhoto. Still running version 2.0, and would crash on opening.
4. Installed iLife 04, upgraded iPhoto to 4.0.3. Now I can open iPhoto, (I held option and created a new library) but there are only 5 pictures in my library (ones that I have added from my camera since the upgrade).
5. I have a backup copy of my old iPhoto library on my desktop. when I try to import these photos, the bar says "working" for about a second, then the highlighted button in iPhoto switches from "import" to "organize". It just won't let me import anything from the old library. I tried to drag the old library folder into the new one (bad idea?) and that didn't work either.
6. Have considered taking all of the photos out of their library folder on the desktop and trying to import as individual jpegs. Is that a bad idea?
Any thoughts on how I can fix the mess I've made?
Any input appreciated...

Julia:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. As you've found out you've committed the cardinal sin of iPhoto, Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder.
Version 4, when trying to import photos from another iPhoto library folder, imports the thumbnail files as well as the full sized files. Not a good thing.
I suggest you use iPhoto Extractor to copy all of the full sized files to the three new folders that will get created on your desktop by the application. Then you can import those three folders into your new library. Of course you will lose all of your roll, album, keyword information but you will have your photos back in a working library. When you have them all in your new working library and are satisfied that you got them all you can delete the old library and the three temp folders that got created.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. So downloading the latest Camera Raw didn't do anything at all for you. The only way to update or upgrade Lightroom is to obtain the latest version. If you have Lightroom 4 then the last version of Lightroom you can have at no additional cost is Lightroom 4.4.1. If the camera you are using requires anything newer than what is supported and that version of Lightroom then it will require an upgrade to Lightroom 5.

  • Can't find Adobe Collage in location services on iPad, and can't import photos from library

Why am I not able to find Adobe Collage in location services on my iPad? And why can't I import photos from my photo library on my iPad?
    Best regards
    Joachim Mortensen

It should appear at or near the top of the list in your Location Services panel under Privacy:
Were you by chance searching for it in the ‘C’s under Collage? The offical name is “Adobe Collage”
If you have Adobe Collage installed, but it isn't here, try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

  • Can't import photos now

My son received a new camera for Christmas. After successfully importing photos from his camera (an HP), I can no longer import photos from my camera (Cannon Powershot A85) that previously worked fine. When I click the import button it does not recognize the camera. Yesterday I was able to turn the camera on, when plugged into the computer, and trigger Image Capture, but today I cannot even make Image Capture work. HP software was loaded onto my computer so I could access the users manual, but I have since deleted the software. I also tried rebuilding my iPhoto library and was successful, but I am still unable to import photos from my camera (and can still import photos from my son't camera). Any suggestions?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iPhoto 4.0.3

I have the same problem. I use a Fujifilm F30 and a Canon Powershot A530. Both were recogniced bij iPhoto and I could import. Suddenly it didn't work anymore. It isn't even recogniced in the finder. Even a different user account can't see the cameras. If I try to import the SD card from the sony through a card reader I have no problems. But sinds I don't have a cardreader for the XD card I need this to work. If I switch on the option to automatically start iPhoto when the camera is connected, iPhoto does start but can't see the camera. Another mac mini I tried had no problems with the camera's and my ipod doesn't have either (I use the camera connector) Does anyone know what is going on? I am running out of options.

  • Since i upgraded to Yosemite, when importing photos to iPhoto, they no longer appear in the 'events' summary in library. Why is this and how can i amend?

Since i upgraded to Yosemite, when importing photos to iPhoto, they no longer appear in the 'events' summary in library. Why is this and how can i amend?

The events may be incorrectly sorted. Try to sort the events by date, while in "Events" view.
Go to the "View" menu: Sort Photos > By Date > Descending. That should bring the most recent events to the top of the list.

  • Can't import photos from my iPhone into iLife '08 after upgrade to 10.5.1

I can't import photos from my iPhone into iLife '08 anymore after upgrade to 10.5.1.
It used to work great...now this. Sad, sad, sad I am.
I tried the "FIX" of refreshing phone and sync history, but it DID NOT WORK for me. HELP!
    Please help, somebody.

I have the exact same issue, but with a standard IMAP account and SMTP.  My iPhone can send out, using the EXACT same settings, from the exact same WiFi connection...but the 10.8 MacBook cannot send at all.  The only account I can send out on is my iCloud account.
I have also tried all the steps above...no luck.
I have also turned off all network filters and firewalls...no luck.  (And as I said above, my iPhone is on the exact same WiFi connection and using the exact same settings, and it can send fine.)
Other messages I've found via Google have suggested simply forcing the SMTP server to use Port 25, but that didn't work for me either.

  • How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How can I import photos from iPhoto-library to edit in Photoshop CC? - and save it back to the iPhoto-library?

How to access iPhoto images for use in Photoshop
    1. In the Finder, navigate to Users > [user name} > Pictures > iPhoto Library.
    2. Control-click the iPhoto Library file and choose Show Package Contents.
    3. A Finder window opens that shows the contents. The Masters folder (or called Originals folder) contains all of the photographs that are in iPhoto.
Photoshop cannot access this folder, but if you make a duplicate of the folder, the dupe will be accessible -- so:
    4. Control-click the folder named Masters (or Originals) and choose Duplicate.
5, Drag the duplicate folder which is named "Masters copy" or “Originals copy” from the iPhoto Library Finder window to the Desktop.
    6. Open images in Photoshop from file on desktop.
7  Rename the folder and move it elsewhere (probably to the Pictures folder), if desired.

  • I upgraded to Lightroom 3.4 and can't move photos into collections or files

I upgraded to Lightroom 3.4 and can't move photos into collections or files

To move a photo into a collection, you point your mouse at the photo(s) (not the gray rectangle around the photo) and drag it into a collection.
You can't move a photo into a file. Perhaps you meant something else?

  • Can't import photos from my iPhone to iPhoto.

Usually once I connected my iPhone, iPhoto is automatically opened and all the pictures can be imported. However, now the pictures won't show in iPhoto anymore. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Same problem here: upgraded from 4.3.x to iOS 5.1 (iPhone 3GS), now I can't import photos taken on iPhone. Neither with iPhoto nor with Lightroom - they both do see the connected iPhone tough. However they both claim that there are 0 photos found.
That's on OS X 10.6.8, iPhoto '11 (latest v 9.2.3), iTunes 10 (10.6.1) - or in other words: all updates installed. However I remember a quick test with the iPhone 4 from my girlfriend also found no photos on her device (also iOS 5.1) (so it can't be a 3GS issue only).
I do have "sync over WiFi" enabled, but all iCloud services are turned OFF.
I am pretty sure it must be the fault of iOS 5.1. Off course the phones were unlocked at the time of import. Also re-connecting the USB cable did not show any success. Also made sure that no sync was going on during the photo import attempt.

  • Can't import photos since updating to 10.10.3

Since upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3 I can't import photos on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013).
It just stops in the middle of the import of the first photo and pops up an error.
    "Import error (-9912)."
Note: The same camera and the same pictures imports perfectly on my not-yet-updated Macbook Air.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • How can I import photos from photo stream to windows photo gallery? These photos are not on the camera roll on my iPad but are from another iPad on the same iCloud account.

I work at a Learning Center that has 12 iPads on the same iTunes and iCloud account.  Each classroom uses an iPad assigned to their room to take photos.  Each of these photos then shows up in the Photo Stream in all 11 of the other iPads.  I have no trouble importing photos that are in the Camera Roll of any individual iPad, but I have not been able to import photos from the Photo Stream if the picture was not taken on the specific iPad I am using.  It is not feasible for me to collect all 12 iPads everyday to import everyones photos, so how can I use one "master" iPad that will let me import photos from the Photo Stream since it has all the photos that everyone has taken?

You downloaded an iCloud backup to your PC?  I assume you mean you downloaded your photo stream to your PC.  What you may not know is that photo stream only keeps your photos for 30 days.  After that, they are deleted from photo stream but not from any device that already has them (such as your phone).  When you enabled photo stream on your PC you only had access to photos from the last 30 days since the others are no longer there, even though they remain on your phone.
To transfer these to your computer at this point you have two options:
Save them to the camera roll on your phone (by opening the my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap all the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  (You can only import photos to your computer from the Camera Roll album.)  Then import them to your computer as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083; or
Use an app like PhotoSync, which can wirelessly transfer photos from any album between your devices/computers, including the my photo stream album.
In the future, always import your photos from your camera roll to your computer via USB before deleting them.  Don't rely on photo stream or your iCloud backup to save your photos.

  • I can not import photos from PC to my Ipad, it says iTunes will no longer sync photos to the iPad

I can not import photos from my PC to the iPad, it says  iTunes will no longer sync photos to the iPad

YES Terence!  Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop.   But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now.   Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore?   I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs.  I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly.  I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?!  I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.
Thank you so much for your help.   I really, really appreciate it.
