Upgraded and lost music

I didn't notice until a couple of days ago that when I upgraded to the new iTunes all my songs disappeared. Now, since they are all on my laptop and I'm talking about my desktop how do I effortlessly transfer them from the macbookpro to the MacPro?
TIA,
Connie

Sorry, but I've been working on other things and just had time to get back to your suggestion.
Yes, I would definitely need more instructions. I have a FireWire so where do I start once I have it hooked up. Target Disk Mode is in sys>prefs>Startup so just follow those instructions as they come up and it's "fail proof"? Or is there something else I should know before I start?
Thank YOU!
Connie

  • Upgraded and lost music library except for purchased songs

I followed the upgrade prompt, and it wiped out my entire music library and playlists except for those songs I had purchased on I-tunes. The hundreds I downloaded from my own purchased CDs are gone. Help!

I had this happen to me a year ago when I upgraded from an older version. I was saddened when I lost all of my library. I then tried to install the older version that I still had in my recycle bin, and then by some miracle I got back my whole library. To this day I do not know what I did to restore it as I don't understand this process very well. But one thing I do know I will not upgrade. I still have iTunes 6.0 and will keep it. BUT I have another post out there because I can not burn a disk of one of my files. I keep getting the message "iTunes has to close now ...sorry for the inconvience etc." I need an answer to that question. Hopefully someone will be able to help me.

  • Help....I synced my old iphone to mac book pro and lost music

Help....I synced my old iphone to mac book pro and lost music. Is there a way to recover my music?

Not if it isn't in your itunes library.  If you sync with a new computer iTunes will delete all iTunes media (such as music) from your phone and replace it with whatever media is in the new iTunes library.  Sounds like that's what happened.

  • Recently did an upgrade and lost all my contacts

recently did an upgrade and lost all my contacts

Try to check if iTunes made a backup before upgrading the phone. You can check via iTunes or use iPhone Backup Extractor. If there is, you can restore from backup to get your contacts back or simply extract them using the iPhone Backup Extractor. It's worth a try, good luck!

  • Tried to do upgrade and lost everything but contacts. Phone wont sync with computer. Do I need to register it as a new iphone?

Tried to do upgrade and lost everything but contacts. Phone wont sync with computer. Do I need to register it as a new iphone?

You should copy everything from your old computer to your new one, then sync.
The iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will indeed erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.

  • I did an upgrade and lost all of my music. i had most of the songs (1400) on an external hard drive. how do i put these songs in my itunes library.? i was able to get them on my ipod some how but i cant play from just the itunes

i recently did an up grade on my ipod touch  and lost all of my music (1700 songs). all of my music wason my ipod. i have an external hard drive with most of my songs (1400 songs) on it.  through playing around and just trying to fiquire it out, i managed to get the music from the external hard drive to my ipod touch. the problem that i just found out is that i cant play those songs from my computer unless my iopd is connected to the computer. when i try to play a song, it gives me thiserror message " THIS SONG CAN NOT BE USED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL FILE COULD NOT BE FOUND. WOULD YOU LIKE TO LOCATE IT. please help.what did i do wrong?

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

  • Using iTunes Plus to upgrade and restore music

I had a bad computer crash a few months ago, lost all purchased music, then found said purchased music for upgrade in iTunes Plus. Purchased the upgrades, but they are nowhere to be found on my iTunes. Do I need to re-purchase the songs, or can I find them somewhere in the abyss that is iTunes?

The iTunes Plus upgrade process works by your purchased history, and does not care if the pre-upgrade versions are still in your library or not.
First look on your hard drive and see if the Plus versions are there somewhere. If you paid for the upgrades and did not receive them, contact iTunes Customer Service:

  • I stored all my music on laptop, but then had a problem and lost music. If I try to sync ipod with laptop, will I be able to re-install music on laptop, or am I likely to lose all of it?

Can anyone help me, the technophobe, please?
I have stored music onto my laptop, in i-tunes, and then used this to sync to my ipod.
Unfortunately, a while ago, I had a problem with the laptop and lost all my i-tunes info, music, etc, including some purchased TV series.
My question is - if I attach my ipod to the laptop, can I reload all the music from it onto the laptop, or am I likely to lose all the music off my ipod too?
I think it is an ipod touch, but I am not 100% sure on this - it's about 18 months old, is all I can tell you.
Thank you to anyone who can offer advice.

  • I upgraded and lost a lot of data ...where can I recover it?

I have an imac 27 inch 2009 just upgraded to 10.7.4 and lost mail data and downloads.
Can anyone tell me how to recover my lost files?
    Thanks

Do you have a hard drive that's not filevaulted and desperate enough to spend hours and a couple of hundred of dollars in a data recovery effort?
Or could you redownload the files that were in the Downloads folder (and shouldn't have remained in there as it's for temporary downloads only) and perhaps do without your soon to be old emails?

  • Help: nano and lost music

Last week my computer got a virus, so i contacted dell and they guided me through a total system restore. First of all, I backed up all of my music in my library. Unfortunately, during the transfer some of my files were lost. However, i have all the music on my ipod nano (1st gen.) but i am afraid that if i connect my nano to my computer it will wipe the files on my nano and replace with them with the files in my itunes library. What should I do? Is ther any way that i can connect my nano without losing the music that is already on it??
    Mike

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Never synced before just upgraded and lost everything

    Hi,
I tried upgrade my friend's phone on the another person's computer.
Successed.. Upgrading but I lost all contects and photos. I tried to back up and restore but i couldn't.
The phone i upgraded never synced before.
Is there anyway i can have photos and contacts back? Plz help me

This does not happen without ample warning. The first warning provided is the iPhone is associated with another iTunes library. This must be followed by manually selecting Sync Music under the Music tab or Sync Apps under the Apps tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on another computer and when doing so, a warning is provided indicating that doing so will erase all iTunes content on the iPhone first. This involves iTunes content on the iPhone only - everything on the iPhone is not erased with doing so.
Unless Sync Photos is selected under the Photos tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on another computer along with selecting photos on the computer's hard drive to be transferred to the iPhone followed by a sync, photos transferred from the computer the iPhone is normally synced with are not erased from the iPhone, nor are any photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll, which are not included with the iTunes sync process.
Unless Sync Contacts is selected under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on another computer and a supported address book application on the computer is selected, contacts on the iPhone are not touched. The same for Safari bookmarks and calendar events.
The iPhone's backup does not include any iTunes content - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps, and the backup does not include any photos transferred from your computer. All iTunes content on the iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer - the computer the iPhone is normally synced with. All photos transferred from the computer the iPhone is normally synced with should remain on that computer as well.
Where is your husband's computer? Forget about his sister's computer. He needs his computer to restore all content on his iPhone as it was before.

  • My Blackberry Tablet was forced to upgrade and lost everythin

    Has this happened to anyone?
I have been using the Blackberry Playbook for 3 months now and have setup everything and synced it to the desktop before. Just recently, I plugged it into the computer to sync pictures and such but it could not connect but asked to upgrade (note, a few weeks ago I had already updated the OS). After the update, it reset and asked to setup the Playbook as if I had just bought it. After setting it up again all of my videos, pictures, music, contacts, and applications were gone!! There seems to be no way for me to recover.
Also, I made sure that the Playbook did not shut down or get disconnected from the computer or the network while the upgrade was in progress.
I don't think that I will continue to use the Playbook at the risk of losing everything again. I had my baby's first crawl and many other important memories on there.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Knottyrope - My problem was:  I WAS trying to back up the playbook!  It gave me an "backup error" message and when I followed the instructions (although the PB was already turned off I simply turned it back on) it automatically updated without any message indicating it would do so.
My complaint is that I had no warning of any sort - it did not advise me that if I continued it would update and I could possibly lose files.  I have had a warning like this on many other programs but not this time for my PB.  I would have not continued and would have cancelled the update.
I would have sought out a professional to get my pictures off before proceeding with any kind of an update.  As it is, I am probably going to seek the help of a company in the US (I'm in Canada - right in the city RIM is) to see if they can restore anything; that's how important these pictures are to me.
If we had proceeded after being warned I would say you have the right to tell us we're pathetic.  But I'm sorry - I think we have every right to complain about how this updated.  I still can't believe something so simple went unchecked by a major company such as RIM.

  • In an effort to try to do a slide show through my apple TV and my computer I have lost all of my work in iPhono for the past 5 years. I upgraded and lost my albums and books. How do I get everything back the way it was?

In an effort to try and show a slide show through my apple tv I upgraded my iPhoto app now I have lost all of my books albums and photo's over the last 5 years. How can I get it back the way it was 2 hours ago?

to know your version of OS, click on the apple, then  " About This Mac".
Same thing for your version of iPhoto: in iPhoto, click on "iPhoto" then "About iPhoto".
