Upgraded desktop software won't start

In a moment of complete insanity I allowed my desktop software to be updated - last time I did this I couldn't sync for over a month.
Naturally the install didn't do smoothly and now the software won't start.....
The processes start, and I can kill them in windows task manager, but the software crashes - I get the 'program has stopped working' message - before it even finishes starting.
Since all my email and calendar applications are web based I shouldn't need to sync at all, my Android tablet doesn't need to, I just point it at my online calendar and hey presto! it's all synced.

I have the exact same issue.  Have already tried reinstalling (repairing) by downloading from website to no avail. Can someone help please?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    I suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Also, please be certain that you meet 100% of the system requirements listed on this page, especially given you are using an old Windows OS:

  • Desktop Software won't download device updates?

    Hi,
I recently bought a BB Torch and would like to add more language supports via the Desktop Software (ver. 6). However, the installer won't go past the back up phase as the update window immediately closes upon entering the 'downloading device software' phase. I have more than 200MB remaining memory in my phone and the software is up to date. The desktop software won't apply changes to any other applications either.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

    Hi pokexpress,
Try performing a manual backup of your BlackBerry using the Backup feature in BlackBerry Desktop Manager first.  Then, when doing the upgrade, de-select the backup option.

I'm having the same problem every time I try to install BB Desktop software 4.3. I have even tried to run start.exe as administrator, even though I'm logged in as administrator, and I still get the error. I think it was error code 2738 if I recall correctly.* edit   Sovled the problem. I goggled the error code and and after several sites I found the answer at http://www.nitropdf.com/kb/article.aspx?id=10106&cNode=3D8W4P

  • Desktop Software won't work any more

    Help!
For the last couple of weeks, I've faced issues with syncing my Blackberry with Outlook.
It began when the letters all disappeared from Desktop. In their place were rectangles, of different sizes according to the size of the letter that should have been there. I wondered if somehow it had gotten switched to a foreign font that was not on my computer.
After uninstalling, downloading fresh and reinstalling, I was no further ahead. I spoke to someone at Rogers, who pointed to their online chat, who told me they no longer supported blackberry software - only the hardware and what was installed on them. I needed to speak to Blackberry. It was suggested that I uninstall again, and after several attempts, to try installing 5.0.1. I did, and was able to use it to backup my BB, and then to use the update feature so 6.1 would be installed. When I did this, a new thing happened.
When I try to start Desktop now, the grey-black rectangle with "Blackberry Desktop Software" is quickly overwritten by a white blank rectangle of the same dimensions, saying "Blackberry Desktop Software" at the top. The circles whirls away as it's trying to load, but nothing happens. When you click on the X to close, it then adds "(Not Responding)" to the top. After a few seconds you can force a close.
Just to try one more thing, I ran Malwarebytes twice, but this didn't help with a reinstall. I still get the white box, and can't get any further.
What do I do from here?

Your messsage describes exactly the same problem I'm having.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, but this has not fixed the problem.  Did you find a solution?

  • Desktop Software won't run - so I can't transfer from my current Bold to my new Torch 9800

I currently have desktop software operating on Microsoft XP SP2 with a Blackberry Bold. The desktop software was loaded approx 18 months ago.
I have upgraded to a Torch 9800 and wish to transfer my existing info from my Bold onto it via the desktop software. I have attempted to download the latest desktop software but ultimately it ends in a message stating that the application requires XP SP3 to run.
Are there any solutions other than upgrading my OS? An earlier version of desktop software that will work with both XP SP2 and a Torch 9800 perhaps?
    Cheers

Correct, the current Desktop Software does require WindowsXP, service pack 3.

  • Desktop v6 won't start after installation

I performed a clean install BB Desktop Software v6, after uninstalling version 5, then rebooting then installing version 6 then rebooting again.
Now, every time i click on the desktop icon or the icon to start the app (even from the Start Menu), i can see from 'talk manager', that the app started, it stays for a few seconds then it auto closes. Every single time.
Has anyone come across anything like this?
Nothing remotely similar to his ever happened to version 5 of the desktop client.
    My PC info:
    Windows XP PRO SP3
    Intel Core2 Duo / 3 GB RAM
    User does have 'administrative' rights

    Hey zxo2000,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Do you have any additional users created on this PC?  If so, if you login to that user account does Desktop Manager close down after a few seconds?
Also what security software is currently installed on the computer?
I would first suggest performing a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Desktop Software, which requires going into the registry.
The steps are located at www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
Once completed, disable start-up items under msconfig and then re-install BlackBerry Desktop Software.

  • Upgraded Desktop Software from 4.1 to 4.3

After upgrading my desktop software from 4.1 to 4.3 I am experiencing issues with synchronizing, in particular with configuring Microsoft Outlook.  Each time I attempt to configure Outlook I receive the following "popup" message; "cannot find system in table file".  What have I overlooked?

You might try uninstalling and reinstalling the application.
I recommend installing Desktop Manager v4.2 Service Pack 2. I have had too many issues with v4.3. However, some have got it to work just fine.

    OK,
      New 8350, Desktop V6.0.1.18, Microsoft XP SP3
Connect via Bluetooth or cable (two different ones), every USB port.
Phone was recognized once and was able to sync my data once.  Since then I get the same error
BB desktop software cannot connect with device.  Device is either rebooting or has dead battery.
Interestingly BB desktop manager recognizes the blackberry device, XP device manager recognizes it.  All ports are powered with power management off.
I've done a clean install per KBxxxxx, done a battery pull.
I can't get the **bleep** software to work with the phone.  That's the whole point!

  • Went from 8320-8310, now my desktop software won't see my new phone?

    Hey guys,
I recently had my 8320 (t-mobile) stolen and bought an unlocked 8310.  I got a new sim card, went through that all and now I am trying to connect my phone to my desktop software (4.7) and it won't recognize the thing.  The phone also says it isn't getting sufficient current to charge... I have tried resetting my phone, restarting my computer, switching cords.... any ideas how I can fix this? I want to restore my contacts and other info to my new phone.
    Thanks,
    Sean

My next suggestion would be to disconnect your BB and USB, and reboot the PC from powered off.
Do the same with the BlackBerry device.
Then, reconnect the BB to the USB, and THEN, try to connect.
